Time for Bill O'Racist to Resign in Disgrace

By Bob Cesca, Huffington Post. Posted February 23, 2008.

O'Reilly should be fired for using the word "lynching" in the context of a rant about Michelle Obama, despite his faux apology.

A cursory internet search reveals the shocking truth for those of us who weren't there: photographs depicting a variety of howling posses composed of fire-eyed redneck thugs -- terrorists, if you will -- skulking through the woods with hounds and lengths of rope; hauling with them an American citizen of African descent, and making their way to a not-so-clandestine location where a cowardly, ritualistic, vigilante execution will take place.

Sepia-toned photographs retaining in permanent clarity the faces -- the proud, grinning white "men" gathered like hyenas around the mangled corpse of a black man who had been beaten and hanged by these reactionary monsters. As if the deeds themselves weren't shameful enough, these ghoulish lynch mobs would often take away souvenirs of their homicides: body parts, clothing, hair -- and those terrible photographs.

There are too many of these images. There are too many stories -- more than enough to justify any thinking-person's reluctance to pledge unconditional pride in the entirety our national heritage -- a heritage which includes a 1922 U.S. Senate filibuster against an anti-lynching law.

This isn't ancient history. These aren't isolated incidents. Perhaps as many as 4,000 American blacks were lynched in the eight decades following the end of the Civil War.

Similar events, in practice and symbolism, occur even today. As recently as last year, nooses were used to intimidate African-Americans. The noose, it seems, has become a newsworthy issue in the fourth American century. Almost exactly ten years ago, in 1998, a black man was tied up and dragged behind a pick-up truck in Jasper, Texas until his body was so decimated it was practically unrecognizable as being the remains of a man.

So there's no reason why Bill O'Reilly should be surprised when reasonable, rational, thinking Americans want him to be summarily fired for using the word "lynching" in the context of a rant about Michelle Obama. The outrage is righteous and justified. Words matter. And history shows that these words that Bill O'Reilly invoked cast a long, sinister shadow.

You've probably read the quote here and on other websites, but I want to make sure Bill O'Reilly's bigotry is seared into the record, so I'll post it here again:

And I don't want to go on a lynching party against Michelle Obama unless there's evidence, hard facts, that say this is how the woman really feels. If that's how she really feels -- that America is a bad country or a flawed nation, whatever -- then that's legit. We'll track it down.

Lynching? Party? Unless there's evidence? So we're to understand from Bill O'Reilly that if someone might be relating a certain level of dissatisfaction with America's present status and chief executive, that they deserve to be tracked down by Bill O'Reilly's Lynch Mob?

It doesn't even matter what Michelle Obama said. We do know that FOX News repeatedly misquoted Mrs. Obama's statement and regardless of what she said, nothing -- no words, intentions or deeds justify the unhinged spike in Bill O'Reilly's bigoted, splotchy blood pressure to the point of wanting to "track it down" with his "lynching party." She could've said something like, "Bill O'Reilly is a splotchy dillweed who enjoys savory, soapy shower falafels," and it still wouldn't justify this flagrantly racist "lynching" analogy.

And if it wasn't intentional, then it has to be pegged as gross incompetence, and this asshat -- this spastic Morton Downey Jr. throwback, this serial liar -- should, in fairness, be fired anyway. But considering Bill O'Reilly's record, incompetence only explains half of it. The rest falls in line with a pattern of well-documented bigotry.

“He {O’Reilly} clearly doesn't understand the repercussions of this kind of race-baiting language.” (from the article) Oh, I think he understands very well the appeal his lynching statement has to racists.

Please, don't be so self serving - OReilly was defending Obama. I dont think America needs the Huffington Post to decide what's "politically correct"and too sensitive fr their ears.

The far left can personally insult the President but you cannot mention the word lynch in the company of a black person. Does that mean the word beheaded should neet be mentioned in front of an Arab?

There is nothing more racist about ORiellys comments than there is unpatriotic about Michelle Obama comments.

Wait, you might be on to something!

Factor this, Bill

BREAKING NEWS:
BILL O'RILEY IS A BLOVIATING GAS BAG.

This won't come as any surprise to anyone who has read my blog, but I don't have a hell of a lot of faith in the intelligence of the American people. The success of Bill O'Riley only illustrates this point. That this mean-spirited, unenlightened racist is broadcasting in prime time over the people's airwaves on radio and television is just one of many assaults in recent years on America's national political dialogue. He, Ann Coulter, Michael Weiner, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity (among many others) are merely symptoms of what can only be described as our national sickness.

America's three-decades march toward facism have been enabled by these people. How long this assault on American politics will continue is anybody's guess. The lie mongers of the far right have a following - a big one. Thank the Lord for sites like this one. The mix is, indeed, the message.

Sooner or later (much later, I fear) even the American people are going to figure out that these bastards and bitches have been lying to us from the start. Until then, all we can do is expose them at every opportunity.

An apology stated in this way, "I am sorry if I offended anyone" lays at least part of the blame on those that were offended. It is not really saying you are sorry for what you did.

Yep, he is an "actor" and he ought to be given a role where he plays the part of a lynching victim. Put him in a full body harness and have him act out the part - including leaving him acting dead and twisting slowly in the wind.

Perhaps the experience will chasten him....nothing else does.

Because I REALLY hate saying anything that might be misconstrued as a defense of Bill O'Reilly.

I'm all for firing the guy, on general principles. Fire him because he's an idiot. Fire him because his rhetoric is detrimental to our country. Fire him because I don't like him. All of those are valid reasons to fire him, and quite frankly, it would make my day. Making my day is, and of itself, a good enough reason to fire him, in my not-so humble opinion.

But don't fire him for using the word "lynch", particularly in the context he used it.

If the word "lynch" conjures up racial overtones with you, than that says more about you, than about the word.

For me, and most of the world, the word "lynch" means to use mob mentality to go after someone, with or without the proper justification.

To most of us, "lynch" conjures up the images of the old west, where a criminal was going to be put on trial, but the lynch mob got to him first, and there was a hanging.

Yes, there were lynchings later on, of blacks, for no reason other than being black. But I refuse to let the idiots at the KKK redefine what my words mean, and so should you.

Lets give Bill a pass on this one, and fire him for being the idiot he is everyday instead.

At least then, the right to free speech won't be in question, and if there is one single issue paramount to all others amongst progressives, it is the right to free speech.

Perhaps the author's views would have been more effective without the invective and epithets. BOR is, like most ignorant beings, whether in a place of power or not, more to be pittied -- and educated -- than censured. His network should be flooded with emails calling for a sincere apology, and assuring him that his use of insensitive language does indeed hurt those people who are reminded of a too recent past, and worse, encourages those people who would presently use similar tools of intimidation to assert their putative superiority over others. It is a matter of consistency, if not morality, that this education be done with patience and civility, so that those who would educate are not equally guilty of bullying to assert their perceived superiority over those they would educate.

Fox Newstwister Channel isn't going to fire this creature.. He reportedly has the largest audience for his show in cable television. Were he to be cancelled, there would be a tsunami of e-mails and 'phone calls from the vacuous red-necks in Bibleland and other Dupes all around the Country who regard FNC as their sanctum santorum where the truth of the Bush Disaster in Washington is conveyed to them...in the name of Jesus of course.

The next in line character at FNC is the almost unbearable Hannity who, like Limbaugh, has no academic creditials but poses as an expert in political science and international relations.

If anything the Fox crowd will continue recruiting the most talented hatemongers that can be found anywhere.

Did this author also call for David Shuster to be fired after he called Hillary Clinton a pimp, and her daughter a whore?? After all, the situations are pretty similar. One is a racist attack, and one a sexist attack. I just don't recall seeing anyone on Huffington Post all that upset about that kind of treatment of Clinton. I could be wrong, and if so, will gladly acknowledge that. Anyway, just wondering.

I’m not in favor of any kind of censorship. It is undemocratic. And outright firing this incredible bigoted jerk would be censorship.
If he is so offensive to one personally turn him off. For example I leap to the radio or TV to hit mute or change the station when G H Bush is on. He never says anything that is not a lie.
One benefit of this O’Reilly jerk spouting his hate and anger is that he taints so many others. All the right wing nuts are with him and so are the politicians for whom they cheer. Yes many Americans are too intellectually challenged to understand but I am hopeful over time and with much suffering justice will prevail. Those who listen and support these jerks will figure out how they are being diminished as humans by tolerating or joining in the hate and bigotry. That is democracy. One has the right to be an asshole. I use my off switch; I boycott his advertisers and complain to them about his (their) crass hateful behavior. That perhaps really hurts these people because they are driven by greed even more than hate and anger. I may be wrong about the order if their dysfunction.

I have some metaphors for Bill O.

Bill O's grave isn't deep enough. Let him dig himself deeper and deeper into the mud pit he crawled out of until he can't be seen or heard again.

The Bill O's and Rushes and right wing Christians are in their death throes. Their days are numbered like the hairs on Bill O's head. And, when they die, they will not be resurrected. And there's a dark place in hell reserved for them.

Peace

I can't let these misleading comments go unchallenged.
The writer of this uses the very same crap O'Reilly Himself uses to soft-soap his criminality, his overt racism. his hateful threats and juvenile bullying of anyone who doesn't follow and accept his stupidly childish rants, then consistently denies his oun RECORDED words.
To minimize and mis-represent the horrendousness of this countrys' historic attrocities of blacks, to say nothing of the native americans, all minorities, and peoples all around the world, continuing and endorsed today-either actively or covertly by their silence-by every leading politician and establishment figure who endorses our social and foriegn policies is rapidly taking us all to the very brink of self-destruction and a liveable earth.

Lynching audiences
Posted by: supercrisp on Feb 23, 2008 7:46 AM
Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
The article begins by describing a lynching; it describes men and their hounds and guns. But I think it's important to note that the audiences for lynchings and the lynchers weren't just white men. The grinning crowds you can see in photos often include children and women. It was often a family event, and it often took place, not in some out-of-the-way spot, but right downtown as a civic event.

I can't remember when Bill O was praised for doing or saying the right thing about those with whom he disagrees. He either lies, distorts or maligns.

Now, doing the right thing is what heroes do. Bill O and his ilk are afraid to do the right thing, therefore, they are defined as cowards.

In the current act of verbal cowardice, Bill O clearly knew the reaction he would get from fair minded people, outraged by his hubris, arrogance, and phony apology. Roger Ailes, who owns Fox will insure that nothing happens. It's like the Old Southern Gov. who protected the Grand Klugels of the KKK.

We just need to use our remotes to shut him out and reenter a decent world.

At the top of your "Post a Comment" page, you list the 4 things that AlterNet will not tolerate.
I despise Bill O'Reilly and Glen Beck, but you use language in your piece about firing Bill O'Reilly which violates your own creed on what you will not tolerate. For example, the spelling of Beck's last name and calling for pelting Bill O'Reilly.
While these may be things that I myself may like to do, they give ammunition to the right wing about your sincerity in publishing your rules of tolerance. This can be construed as doing the very thing that you forbid your readers to do, and that smacks of hypocrisy.

It provides that you may say pretty much anything in a public forum.

You can lie, defame public persons, even defame public persons with lies. You can invade their privacy in the service of "news".

You can advocate the overthrow of the government, provided you don't incite it.

You can promulgate bigotry and race hatred.

You can traffic in erotica, without much exception.

What you can't do is insist that a private entity continue to provide you with a paycheck if they don't like what it is you're saying.

If this poor excuse gets canned, there's no First Amendment issue involved. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the shithead to join the 7.7 million unemployed in the country , however, if he's still providing good revenue for the private entity in question.

I don't understand why anybody would be surprised FOX won't fire O'Reilly. Fact is, O'Reilly is the real voice of FOX news. Just look at the reporting style of this network. It primarily only and constantly runs conservative stories. It broadcast all the lies of the WMD's to help push America into Iraq. It leads the drumbeat for war with Iran. It never reports on Israeli butchery in Gaza. We could go on and on. As for racism, it is part and parcel of O'Reilly, and part and parcel of the FOX news philosophy.

Rupert's NewsCorp is a $60 billion company whose main shareholders can be seen at Yahoo Finance on NWS. They were major promoters of the invasion of Iraq and tried to do the same with Iran.

It's an outlet that is nothing but pure propaganda and spin - kind of like the Hearst Empire of Citizen Kane. It serves the central financial interests of Wall Street and Saudi oil shiekhs, not the U.S. public.

Why would they direct Bill O'Reilly to whip up some more racism? Simple - they don't want people talking about the rampant corruption in government, the slimy regulators and loan sharks who created the subprime crisis, the ridiculous secret "Homeland Security" contracts, such as Boeing's border wall, the debacle in Iraq, and so on.

They'll just keep on lying through their teeth. If you ever meet a FOX reporter, let them know what you think of their rotten network, and do as Obama did - refuse to talk to them. They aren't a news organization, but rather a corporate propaganda front.

This very much reminds me of the Monty Python skit about determining if someone is a witch. Of course, if one is made of wood, then one floats (like a duck) and therefore one is a witch.

BO performs a service for all of us by helping to identify those whose belief system is governed not by logic and reason, but by prejudice, fear, and hate. The litmus test for all is how they view the nonsensical ramblings of this sad little man. Make a new acquaintance and ask them if they saw BO's show last night. Let them explain how they feel about what he said. (It doesn't matter what night or what he said.) Is there little doubt at this point whether this new acquaintance floats like a duck?

Some three centuries ago, society started crawling out of an age of darkness. Instead of rule through a doctrine of intolerance and ignorance, an age of logic and reason cast away the belief in power by paternity or charisma and replaced it with power through consent. Though Americans like to feel good about this by allowing all the credit for such sociological advancement to remain here (ethnocentricity meet narcissism) we should also take the brunt of the blame for the return of intolerance and ignorance throughout the world.

BO and his like exist to thwart the advancement of human achievement. Don't reduce yourself to their level and hate. It is my belief that their intolerance acts as a simple way to attract and therefore identify the ignorant.

Having come of age during the Vietnam War, endured such indignities as Richard Nixon, Bush 1 and 2, and now Iraq, and the assasinations of compassionate, liberal leaders such as JFK, RFK, and MLK, I have very little to be proud of so far (the 8 years of Clinton were destroyed by the Republican smear and impeach machine and taught me to never trust Republicans). I have not flown the American flag since Bushit was selected, and my main objective is to outlive this present commander-in-thief so I can spit on his grave (that is the ONLY thing that would get me to Texas-I would leave right after if I wasn't arrested.)

. . . is that Fox albeit fictitiosly calls itself a *News* channel. That makes its anchormen newsmen. There is a duty to come somewhere reasonably close to telling the truth. Possibly also acting like a decent human being. The innuendo was there, regardless how we massage the words and syntax, that it could be appropriate to perform a barbaric form of murder on a woman of a race that has historically been the major (not the only) victim of such atrocities. Whether we like it or not our public figures are role models. Hannity's behavior sends a really bad message.

Look Billo makes Imus look like an alter boy.

But it's the big money that will keep him on the air, and all those
right wing racists. He feeds into their distorted not so bright minds.
He is a pig of a man. He has no integrity, low self esteem, and I'm sure all the mental problems that people of his ilk have.

So why do we give them so much air time and print time, like Ann Coulter an American style Nazi hit machine. We need to know about them for knowing your enemy is to keep yourself safe, but enough is enough. O'Reilly should be fired but only a network with a modicum of integrity would take that action. They are part of the "Family Values" party, [ some family, some values!! ] They probably had an office party for him.
They are all the same. They say there is a place for all God's creatures... even the scum ones, I hope in my next Place, I'm not in the same place as the billos of the world!

O'Reilly is the perfect example of a neocon nutcake. The more he and those of his ilk shoot off their mouths, the more damage they do to ultra conservatives. The only positive result of the Cheney-Bush debacle is that those two stooges proved their age-old philosophy of less government, free markets, and no regulation is falsehood and an utter failure. Hopefully we can get back a few of the things they have stolen from this country.

I've listened to enough O'Reilly. He's filthy, disgusting, and he stinks. Mr. Murdoch, Mr. Ailes, do the right thing and FLUSH THE TOILET!

It is time for Fox to relieve Bill O’Reilly of all exposure to the public in any capacity. A white female now at the age of 73, I was active in the Civil Rights campaign in 1963 and am well aware that prejudice still exists just below the surface of social civility in America. The three assassinations that rocked the U.S. in my lifetime all had overtones of racism at their core, and while I am staunchly in favor of Barack Obama, I am frankly concerned about his safety. I have heard call-in comments aired that openly reflected a resolve that no black man will ever be president of this country. For a television personality (if one can grant O’Reilly that stature) to bring up lynching Michelle Obama as a viable consequence of her comment about newly found pride in America is to fan the flames of dormant hatred. Should (God forbid) any of the Obama family come to harm from a violent fanatic, O’Reilly ought to be held accountable for inciting the perpetrator to the crime. “Free speech” does not extend to hate mongering in a public arena where hundreds, if not thousands, of impressionable people are looking for vindication of their bias and permission to act on it. Just as O’Reilly should be held responsible for his intemperate asinine remark, so should Fox be held responsible for his continued employment. Everyone of sound mind and functional conscience should be agitating for O’Reilly’s dismissal.

If as an employer I had committed the same sexual harrassment, I would have the Feds all over me for workplace violations... yet he gets nothing punitive!

He should be arrested and prosecuted for hate crimes, regardless of whether or not the FOX media moguls fire him. Fox themselves should also be brought up on charges for using the airwaves to promote hate speech. Their assets should be frozen and they all go to jail.

America lacks so much accountability that it is exactly why isin the shape it's in now. GWB is in our highest office and his entire administration is performing illegal acts on the entire world. And no one is holding him accountable despite our voices saying so.

Impeach Bush/Cheney and prosecute. Prosecute Rice and Rumsfeld and Fox and O'Rielly. Freeze their assets and put them ALL in jail. THEY ARE CRIMINALS. The real ones.

Hate speech is exactly the beginning of hate behavior. Good 'ol Jimmy Bob will bring out the rope, but O'Rielley planted the seed in Jimmy BOB. O'Rielly is MORE accountable than even Jimmy Bob. IMHO.

Where are our law enforcement officials? Where ever O'rielly is speaking from, the sheriff should be serving him a warrant for his arrest. Period.

is perhaps the single worst influence on the world right now. He is what folks turn on when they forget or get tired of hating liberals, environmentalists, or any critics of the government. He goes well beyond the fear card played by his buddy, our president, and gives his audience a couple decks of hate and fear cards to play. He is the guy who probably helped Bush get enough votes in both elections to win or 'go to court to win' (the rich American way!). Most startling of all, he is the guy who personifies a huge chunk of Americans- but since his heroes have loused up the world and country so much, I hesitate to say a majority now- we can only hope it is not...

O'Reilly and his ilk
Posted by: tiellis on Feb 23, 2008 3:08 PM
Current rating: 4    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Why does this racist scumbag's latest vicious and hateful diatribe (and not-so-subtle exhortation to mob violence) not surprise me?

Of course he should be fired, and of course he won't. He and his ilk (Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, all the rest of their vile breed) are only a pawn in their game--they are saying out loud what more "respectable" right-wing fascists dare not, and thereby consolidating their "base" by appealing to the lowest, most vicious strand of mindless redneck bigotry through which they have manipulated poor whites into voting against their own best interests for centuries.

It is no different from the judges and prominent "respectable" citizens of the old Apartheid south donning their white robes after dark and becoming "night-riding" terrorists to "keep the niggers down"--O' Reilly is the televised reincarnation of these night-riders--the grim, murderous nocturnal shadow of the daytime likes of William Crystal, Dick Cheney, or Charles Krauthammer.

So of course, he WON'T be fired, and as Obama's star continues to rise, we are likely to see the pitch and verbal violence of right-wing hate speech rise accordingly. Vicious, hateful people never give up power without a fight.

So what should we do? Nothing. As these right-wing hatemongers get uglier and uglier, their true selves will be exposed, for all decent people to see--while Obama continues to rise, building bridges between all the rest of us (normal, non-psychopathic) people--whites, blacks, Asians, and Hispanics alike.

For O'Reilly to resign he would have to have some moral standards. His lack of morals is what makes him so valuable to the right wing. I don't think he is a conscious racist which is what makes his low grade racism so tragic.

Bill O' says things like he will not lynch someone unless there is proof--proof of what is never made clear. Why should Michelle Obama being an angry woman be the basis for lynching?

The other example of Bill's log grade racism is his statement about Sylvia's Restaurant being just like any other restaurant. The real issue is why he would think it would not be like any other restaurant.

O'Reilly is doing just what he is paid to do and he is doing it very well judging by the number and nature of comments his diatribes produce. AlterNet and the author of this article are knowingly or otherwise aiding and abetting O'Reilly and Murdock, AlterNet by choosing to print it and the author by choosing to write it. From a political standpoint O'Reilly is diverting the listeners' attention from the real life and death issues that confront them, particularly those where the listener might have to think rather than react. American audiences prefer to react rather than think. This is one of the reasons he has such a large audience. From an economic standpoint, if his choice of topics and the frames he uses to discuss them did not attract hordes of listeners there would be no sponsorers, no income, no profits, and no O'Reilly.

I am considering there may be something more sinister about this episode. Undoubtedly there had been hope that older Black folks may prevail with the fear of Obama's assasination and get him to withdraw. In other words, intimidation may have been a motive for the incident, however it was instigated. Outside of hate and revenge the principal motive for lynching was intimidation,
whether it was out West or wherever you want to pick at meanings.

Those who watch his show and think he is cool are engaging in mental masturbation, nothing more.

Why is it that Alternet and every other progressive website absolutely LOVES the Limbaugh , Coulters or O'reilly's out there ? If I had a dime for every time these people were called to resign I'd be rich! Problem with this is that Alternet and GoLeft have it wrong.

Going after the hired clowns isnt going to solve the problem. Rather than posting outragious clips of these minions there should be in-depth exposes done on the heads of Fox News. These are the men and women that decide to not only hire someone like O'Reilly but provide a 9 million dollar salary. These are the men and women who decide whether its worth censuring him, firing him or even giving him a raise. Obviously to this point, as long as advertisers are happy with ratings they aren't going anywhere. If advertisers are happy then Fox management couldn't care if O'Reilly called for the DIRECT lynching of Michelle Obama! (and yes, I realize going after O'Reilly embarasses any company that chooses to buy advertising space during his show)

... alas, puppetmasters aren't as sexy as going after a very public and controversial minion such as O'Reilly. Real change will come when you invade the privacy and invoke public ire over what the puppet masters do and say, NOT the puppets.

As much as I truly detest this man, his politics, his ideals, and the trash network that broadcasts his verbal garbage; I am compelled to inject this one important, very simple point in his defense: Freedom of Speech

Without this simple concept, we would not have the right to be express our opinions here on Alternet - because Alternet would not be allowed to exist.

So please vote HELL NO to this pompous ass and his fascist network. Use your brain, your verbal and written skills, and your remote control to express your opinions to everyone that you can and eliminate their existence as quickly as possible. Networks exist only with funding from advertisers, and advertisers will not fund anyone who is unable to effectively promote their products. Make your feelings known to all of FOX networks advertisers, and eventually the FOX will die.

Now, that means someone has to actually watch the show long enough to find out who those advertosers are. It's not going to be me, I have a low tolerance for that sort of torture.

One can try to dissect the nonsense that spews from these kinds of people's mouths and analyze each and every word putting every kind of spin possible on it. But the fact of the matter is people like these people are simply idiots who have found thier way (or been placed into) situations that allow them to voice thier "backwoods inbread meally mouth punkass hatred" to anyone who is stupid enough to listen. These kinds of people are at the root of most of all evil in civilization. Nobody in thier right minds should give them any sort of attention at all. Plain and simple!!!!

Fairness to Billy "O"

The worst thing that can happen to all the propaganda machines in this country it to reinstate the fairness doctrine. This is why we had it to begin with, and that is why we need it now. Free speech needs to belong to all, else the propaganda machine becomes unchallenged.
We can see what real fair, and balanced looks like. We need what is being said here, heard by mass audience. Billy "O" could not swim in those waters. The liberals would eat him alive.

There are several sites on the Net that are listing advertisers on fox channel to boycott. I have canceled a credit card and written to several companies explaining I have changed from their products BECAUSE THEY ADVERTISE ON THAT CHANNEL, and I cannot support fox channel. Hit'em where it hurts. Letters protesting such spew go into the revolving file. The advertisers have more power. And we(collectively) have power over the advertisers.

was to go to England, he would be surprised to find that the Irish are hated more than the blacks. More Irish have died as a result of atrocities inflicted on them by the British then by Americans on blacks. I read a study once, that concluded that ethnic groups that had endured discrimination had a tendency to be more racist than those who hadn't. How true that study is I don't know, but I won't use it as justification for him, he is an asshole no matter what his ethnicity.

...the number of comments here we have given O'Bilely more importance than is conceivable.

His ilk are a product of our time and the fact that the Ruppert Murrdocks of the world have bought and paid for the puppets they want. To think for a moment that any of them would say anything they know the bosses would not approve of is mythology at best. In fact if they were objective in ANY way, that would be their death knell.

The best solution is to boycott or write their sponsors. However, I would need to pay someone to watch their programs for me to do that unless someone could provide a list for me.

So deal with it folks this is the kind of country that only the religious could build. And until we lose our infatuation of Invisible friends it is going to get worse. Remember, the Republican party is the party of Jesus, God, and patriotism.

O'Reilly caught in open racism

O'Liely has finally gone too far--and must be fired or completely shunned by his "audience." To suggest, even, that a black woman should be lynched for her words is way beyond anything that should be allowed from a TV commentator. I believe in the First Amendment, and he can say what he wants, but not necessarily on TV. I've despised him from the jump--now I've gone beyond that. Strange fruit and a burning cross--he belongs in the KKK, not on my television.

O'Reilly: Just Testing Out General Election Strategy for McCain vs Obama

O'Reilly is just trying out what is going to be some general election strategy against an Obama candidacy by McCain. Big question, how much can the Repubs. push the "lynching" thing before it tips against them? O'Reilly has the "assignment" to try it out and then the Repbus. can gauge pulic reaction. This ties in with other elements of the Republican Strategy. The often heard Osama I mean Obama. The internet stories that he swore in on a Koran. No doubt, other word twists and racial jokes/prejudices are being researched right now.

Since short we can receive Fox News on New Zealand Sky TV as well. I have watched Goebels O'Reilly a few times now and have come to the conclusion that this man is an uneducated, ignorant extremist with clear fascists tendencies. He would make a good member of the Kuk Kux Clan. On informed educated people however his rantings have just the opposite effect, but of course that's not the people Fox News is aiming at. His slimy offsider "Geraldo" is just as nauseating. One day I watched him glorifying a couple of generals just back from Iraq, calling them "patriots". His obsequious performance made me almost vomit.

O'Reilly must be fired because he spins the truth ALL THE TIME in fact all the media must be fired for spinning.

BUT for saying lynching he shouldn't be fired because of this. Firing O'Reilly for this would make his "other more dangerous crime" unnoticed.

For this he apoligized and that's enough. All the mainstream media must be investigated of telling lies to promote their candidate in an election time. Does Lynching is that fatal????? It is bad but there are more bad things O'Reilly did... Fire him for clearly promoting Giluliani or for any other reason but THIS. THIS IS STUPID.

The network should also take responsibility for his actions, as they make sure to write his weekly paychecks. The worm is in the apple for a reason?

I am not ashamed to mentioned my name as I have many times writen the program, only for them to ignore my comments.

If you do not like his comments then do not watch Bill. Censorship is becoming America's favorite past-time. The US gov't (and their corporate friends), already detain protesters, ban books like "America Deceived" America Deceived (book) from Amazon and Wikipedia, and fire 21-year tenured, BYU physics professor Steven Jones because he proved explosives, thermite in particular, took down the WTC buildings.
Free Speech forever, even for idiot O'Reilly.

The KKK is offensive and has perpetrated awful acts throughout our history. So by saying I am not joining it, who do I offend? This seems to be what is happening in this case.

Didn't Bill say that he would not join the lynch mob? Didn't see the show, but it sounds like he was defending what MO was saying. So by saying he wasn't joining a lynch mob he should be fired? I really don't get this, is my logic failing me? Or are you guys just smoking way better stuff....

Tell them that you do NOT want FOX news in your basic cable plan.

Wether you watch it or not, if you pay for basic cable you are contributing to keeping Fox News and Bill O' on the air.
YOU are paying Bill O's salary!

My cable company Time Warner would not take fox news off of my plan so I canceled my service.

Chances are O'Reilly will not be fired or suspended, but here's a list of reasonable punishment:

Have him work as a temp at the Martin Luther King Museum in Atlanta:

Intern at Black Enterprise:

Wear baggy jeans and an oversized t-shirt to work and freak Neil Cavuto out:

Work on the Obama campaign:

Make him eat for a month at Roscoe's Chicken n' Waffles:

Rebuild Harlem tenements:

Give a commencement speech at Jesse Jackson's alma mater, North Carolina A&T:

Attend church services at a Black church in New York for a month:

Pick cotton:

Put him inside Jay-Z's studio and cut a rap album, featuring Ludacris and T-Pain:

Work as a housing inspector in any poor neighborhood:

Make an guest appearance on BET's 106th & Park:

Lastly, drive a pimped out Chrysler 300.

If that doesn't silence his mouth, then he should be fired.

Bush mentioned "noose" on Feb 12 ( Potamac Primary - VA-MD-DC )

Reference: Google Search

Did anyone notice that Bush talked about "noose" on the same day as the Potamac primary? Just hearing the word from the President's mouth might be enough to convince some people to stay away from the polls. Think about it. This is how evil these people are .... they could have waited a day for that story.

Here's a quote from the AP story that day:

"For decades, the noose was a symbolic part of a campaign of violence, fear and intimidation against blacks, the president said. Sometimes, he added, it was orchestrated by the law enforcement officers charged with protecting them. Bush also said the noose was a tool for intimidation and killing that conveyed a sense of powerlessness to millions of blacks throughout the country."

Just ask yourself: "Might it have been better to wait until after the primary election in the DC area to do this story?"

Letter to O'Reilly RE: "Fair and Balanced"
Posted by: sharon_jenson on Feb 29, 2008 2:23 AM
Current rating: Not yet rated    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Dear Mr. O'Reilly,

Please share the following information with your viewers, if you dare to really be "fair and balanced":

CNN heads gave a memo to their reporters. In it, they told them to carefully cover the Castro resignation; to point out the good things he did for Cuba.

New York Times held on to the story of McCain and his ties to a female lobbyist. Why? Because they publicly endorsed McCain recently.

Talk IS cheap. Wake up. Get your information from a variety of sources because the media cannot be trusted any more than politicians.

Don't think that for one minute that a Christian candidate would make a better President than one who does not discuss religion; which should be a private issue having nothing to do with oil prices, health care, or your mortgage. One who is willing to offer clear solutions to your problems and who they will target to do so, is most honest and will be held accountable.

A soothing speech cannot be your determining factor. I know your time is limited and you find it hard to spend a tremendous amount of effort doing fact-checking. But we're in a real mess and now is the time to demand the truth!

Back in the 90s when Clinton was President, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld & etc., wrote him a letter begging him to invade Iraq to "secure the world's assets", OIL.

With Iran, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia holding the bulk of the worlds oil, its no surprise Iran was to be next. As he continues to veto every bill, nothing will change until a Democrat takes over. Exxon-Mobil is in the top 10 most profitable companies for 2007, along with drug companies, finance companies, and Wal-Mart. Corporate America is making money off the things middle-class America needs: GAS, PRESCRIPTIONS, MORTGAGES and LAUNDRY DETERGENT.

Since there is so much proof of Bush's blatant disregard for what American people are most in need of, I am so confused as to why more of us aren't doing the research? Getting involved? Taking action? Voting for who/what will benefit them?

In comes Obama. He makes a beautiful speech--no need for America to worry, he's saying everything we're thinking. Great! Let's just vote for him and our problems will be solved.

Wrong!

This is what Republicans and their slanted media slaves want you to do. Hillary poses the biggest threat to them, not Obama. Don't suck in the media coverage of the election, just do a little research. You won't find it on tv, but you will online! I really would trust Obama more if he weren't shaking the hands of those greedy GOPs already. And if his speeches offered clear solutions rather than just appealing to those who are satisfied with just soothing speeches.

Hillary '08

If not for Bill O'Reilly and Fox News, we would be left with one liberal media machine, one opinion. (ABC, NBC, CBS etc... New York Times, Time Mag...)

I happen to be conservative fiscally and more socially liberal. (not that I want universal health care or more welfare, but do want government assistance for our youth wanting to attend college!)

I believe in competition. I believe competition is the reason we are the leading economical country in the world. I believe competition is why other countries are now coming out and becoming economical forces. Competition is the heart of conservative thinking. I don't believe people are too stupid or incompetent to do for themselves, which is another premise of conservative thinking.

Speaking of competition, with two parties (liberal and conservative) I find it nice and fitting that the two parties of their own news stations. ABC, NBC and CBS do and traditionally have leaned towards liberalism, while Fox news now offers an opposing view, which I share and enjoy. I no longer have to watch ABC, NBC or CBS! I have a choice now. I think this is great for our country. I am also excited that so many liberals watch Fox News!

...when you've walked the path as a victim.

Ask any African American over the age of 50 what the word "lynching" brings to mind.
Ask any Native American Indian what the word "Geronimo's Skull" brings to mind.
Ask any Jew what the word "Holocaust" brings to mind.

O'Reilly knew EXACTLY what the word "lynching" in any form when directed toward a black woman would cause in everyone's mind who knows the horrors of lynchings.

And he plays right into the sick, racist, bloodthirsty minds of a white America that thrives on demonic actions for ego and power.

But lynching is not just a part of America's sick past. The racism and horrors continue today. Look at what happened at Abu Ghraib:

http://www.uruknet.de/?s1=1&p=41547&s2=29

I seriously doubt racism and bloodletting will ever leave the psyche and DNA of the American people. But we can send a strong message that it will not be tolerating.

O'Reilly must be fired and blacklisted from all media.

A solution for those who really want change

To not listen to or watch this blubbering douche bag of bullshit. Who gives a fuck what he says, why he says it, or who he says it to? Getting outraged over what this guy or any of the others say is equivalent to a child throwing himself on the floor and flailing about screaming because mommy said No. Christ, turn the shit off if it bothers you. Simple. The up and coming generations of this country don't care about any of this garbage, only the older people still stuck in this absurd mindset do. The world has mostly moved on. It isnt really surprising that the kids growing up now have little cultural understanding or point of reference, and don't pay attention. Why would any normal or half sane person insist on paying attention to an endless bullshit mill?
