Intel Report Reveals Bush and Cheney's Iran Warnings as Fraudulent

For those who have doubts about miracles, a double one occurred today. An honest National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) on Iran's nuclear program has been issued and its Key Judgments were made public.

With redraft after redraft, it was what the Germans call "eine schwere Geburt" -- a difficult birth, ten months in gestation.

I do not know how often Vice President Dick Cheney visited CIA Headquarters during the gestation period, but I am told he voiced his displeasure as soon as he saw the first sonogram/draft very early this year, and is so displeased with what issued that he has refused to be the godfather.

This time Cheney and his neo-con colleagues were unable to abort the process. And after delivery to the press, this child is going to be very hard to explain -- the more so since it is legitimate.

The main points of the NIE:

"We judge that in fall 2003, Tehran halted its nuclear weapons program...

"We assess with moderate confidence Tehran has not restarted its nuclear weapons program as of mid-2007.

"We do not have sufficient intelligence to judge confidently whether Tehran is willing to maintain the halt of its nuclear weapons program indefinitely...

"We judge with moderate confidence Iran probably would be technically capable of producing enough highly enriched uranium sometime during the 2010-2015 time frame.

"We judge with high confidence that Iran will not be technically capable of producing and reprocessing enough plutonium for a weapon before about 2015."

Having reached these conclusions, it is not surprising that the NIE's authors make a point of saying up front (in bold type) "This NIE does not (italics in original) assume that Iran intends to acquire nuclear weapons."
This, of course, pulls out the rug from under Cheney's claim of a "fairly robust new nuclear program" in Iran, and President Bush's inaccurate assertion that Iranian leaders have even admitted they are developing nuclear weapons.

Apparently, intelligence community analysts are no longer required to produce the faith-based intelligence that brought us the Oct. 1, 2002, NIE "Iraq's Continuing Program for Weapons of Mass Destruction" -- the worst in the history of U.S. intelligence.

Truth be told, one of the Iran NIE's findings was written into its first draft, from which Director of National Intelligence Michael McConnell drew in telling the Senate Armed Services Committee on Feb. 27 that Iran could possibly develop a nuclear weapon by early-to-mid-next decade.

McConnell said not a word, though, about Iran's having halted its nuclear weapons program in fall 2003. And in February, he was still adhering to the faith-based approach, saying, "We assess that Iran seeks to develop a nuclear weapon."

At which point, Sen. Lindsay Graham, R-South Carolina, tried to sum up the proceedings with the disingenuous comment, "We all agree, then, that the Iranians are trying to get nuclear weapons."

Curiously, McConnell indicated recently that the key findings of NIEs would no longer be made public.

My guess is that the Pentagon, and especially Adm. William Fallon, commander of our forces in the Middle East, succeeded in persuading McConnell to go public. Several months ago, Fallon was reliably reported to have said, "We are not going to do Iran on my watch."

And it is an open secret that he and other senior military officers, except those of the Air Force, are strongly opposed to getting into a war with Iran for which the U.S. is so ill prepared.

Will President George W. Bush and our domesticated media succeed in dismissing this latest NIE as "guesswork," as he has in the past? It is going to be highly interesting to see how the White House will try to spin this one.

Maybe, just maybe, this will help pull our delusional president from starting his precious WWIII. Boy emperor has probably been at war with Iran since they took our folks hostage in 1979. It ain't over yet, but this may help put the brakes on at least a little. Bu$hCo messed us up enough in Iraq, we don't need another front in their contrived 'war on terror', trumped up to keep the populace in fear and fought in a bass-ackwards way. If we can just hold it toogether until this mis-administration goes away....if it will just go away....

before we can rejoice. Wolfowitz is back in the fore and could still push Shrub and Co, into war because Iran as Irak can easily rebuild -from their oil profits - the damage that the US inflicts, remember????

The fact that this intelligence estimate was even released to the public is a good sign. After all the rhetoric that went back and forth I'm sure it was a difficult decision to make but the right one. Maybe bombing Iran isn't inevitable as many on alternet believed.

Wel, it is a change,we found out they are lying before they drop the bombs. What has happened???Even if they stage another 9/11 they will have trouble blaming it on Iran.

The whole thing didn't make any sense anyway.
Who were the Iraians going to drop the bomb on.
Moments after they had dropped it, they would have been destroyed. what was the point?

At that meeting with Abbas and Olmert, Olmert seemed to direct the whole thing.Bush looked very uncomfortable. I went out on the net and looked at the videos again and I was right.

Bush is going to speak on TV at four O clock, that should be interesting. If it is interesting that in itself would be a change.
Lately,he has looked like an egg-head.

I have copied this comment I posted to a similar article here:

Iran stopped its program in 2003? That would be right about the time they started voluntary co-operation with the IAEA inspections wasn't it?

Then when Bushie started ratcheting up the BS, they started enrichment (their right under the NPT) only to be branded as 'defying' calls for inspection, which were voluntary, remember.

Who else has nukes in the area that is not a member of the treaty? Israel, Pakistan, India, you don't hear much about that though. Yet the Iranian masterminds behind the 'axis of evil' are so bent and twisted that they would become signatories to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty? Then they have the balls to submit to voluntary inspections, which have to date, revealed zero evidence of a weapons program? The evil bastards!

Don't worry about this little NIE, Bush and his crew of merry pranksters have never let one of those slow them down before.

Watched a bit of Bush's press conference. Quite a flurry of spinning, so they must be worried. Made me sick and dizzy so I had to turn it off.

You know, I hear Laplanders are secretly developing a plot to steal north sea oil and and also they secretly want to hijack Christmas and and tax it!!! I hear they're starting to train suicide caribou, so you know some day they're going to develop flying saucers armed with subspace anti-matter bombs. It's because their culture is weird and they hate us for our warmer weather and superior pork rinds.

Be very very afraid. Now lets get out there and bomb us some uh them icicle heads!

I wonder if Iran's proximity to Russia and Putin's renewed vigor have anything to do with the sudden appearance of this NIE – a way for Bush to slightly ameliorate his stance vis-a-vis Iran and save face in light of this "new" information (that's actually 9 months old and hidden by the administration for all that time)? I wonder what threats from Putin might have been implied in phone calls to Bush, the contents of which Bush refused to reveal in today's news conference?

It is quite possible that Cheney-Bush intended to either have this NIE rewritten to fit their warped views or keep it buried while they set up conditions for another disastrous, oil-based, war – until Putin told Bush to back off or risk trouble with Russia, the really big (nuclear) dog in the area.

It is unacceptable to have a President and Vice-President of the United States intentionally creating disasters and then taking advantage of their own created disasters to further impose their will. The world is a dangerous enough place without world leaders intentionally creating even more disasters. If a candidate for President does not denounce Bush and Cheney as troublemakers, that candidate has no business being President.

This is all about USA and Israeli power being checked in the Middle East. After Putin's victory, the USA realized that a strong and resurrgent Russia was not going to tolerate an American bombing or invasion of Iran. Especially since the Russians already knew what the NIE states, which is that there really never was a nuclear weapons program in Iran (2003 put in just to save face). It was the concoction of the USA and Israel, who for years have been going after Iran for not accepting American/Israeli dominance and power in the Middle East region. What Russia told Bush to make him heel, I suspect, is along the lines of Russia's ability to impact world oil supplies and also to project military power. Russia has enough oil to withhold supply and collapse the world economy. Russia also could send troops even into the former Soviet Republics and expel NATO or even ally with China to threaten the USA. Lots of nasty things for the USA and her sister Israel that Russia could have said. And, Bush knows that Russia is a strong nuclear power that won't take it from either the USA or Israel. So, Bush had to pull out, and of course, try to save face. The Russians by the way have no problem with Bush trying to save face, that is just internal country politics. But, next we will hear that the USA plan to put missle interceptors in the Czech Republic or Poland falls apart.

Many of the "supposed" hardened chips the US military has installed in all electronic equipment, from satellites to cell phones, came from out-sourced manufacturing plants in China, and they are, in fact, vulnerable to EM pulse disruption.

How about some serious discussion about the movement of six armed nuclear cruise missiles from Minot to Barksdale on Aug. 30? An accident? Sloppy procedure?

Isn't anyone interested in knowing WTF happened?

What we know did not happen was that 60 highly trained Minot airmen took it upon themselves to arm and move those six nukes all on their own initiative. Who gave the orders? Who could have issued the orders?

Why are there seven dead servicemen connected to Minot or Barksdale since July? And why no serious inquiry into the deaths?

Every single piece of sophisticated military hardware has a chip inside it, and we don't know which ones are vulnerable. We don't have back-up chips available, nor the time to tear everything apart and replace bad parts.

Fallon said, "Not on my watch," and China said,"Wise decision."

Now, can we get on with impeachment proceedings?

Reports indicate that Dick Cheney fought for months to keep this Iran report from being released, so that he could ignite the country to bomb Iran. This says to me that everyone in our country including the Administration, the legislztive and judicial branches, and the military should be very concerned, because we have someone who is criminally insane as our Vice-President. My statement is not a smart comment or a joke; this is what the United States faces for the coming year. If we are not careful, insane events involving Dick Cheney could happen in 2008.

Not the report that just came out- that was expected. But the headlines in 'the media' that I saw on Google News. I'm too scared to read further than the headlines and more importantly, most of the country is too dumb to read. So the headlines serve their purpose and here's a few for thought:

OK that's all I can handle. So messed up is (US generated) media that, the bombardment of headlines like this convinces many ('challenged' readers or thinkers) that Iran is very dangerous and needs to be dealth with. The media is just as criminal as our president. Yet if you don't smell something wrong here, your IQ should be too low for you to find the voting booth.

The Bush Republicans are not the only alarmist propaganidists! Please search U Tube by keying in "Hillary Clinton AIPAC" for her speech advocating nuclear bombing of Iran to make the world 'safe' for Israel. Democrats are insane to contemplate the candidacy of Ms. Clinton, the apologist for the Bush Administration. Look at her perfect Bush agenda voting record; Iraq war authorization votes, Patriot Act (twice), tax cut bills for the rich, Homeland Security Act and others. This woman is a stealth Republican and corporatist. The Republican owned media will proceed to brand all other Democratic contenders as un-electable as they did for their most pro-Wall Street choice, Kerry, in 2004. Hillary needs to be discredited now as the hawk and AIPAC agent she is.

How hauntingly similar is this situation to Bush undermining UN inspections in Iraq with cowboy comment headlines prior to the beginning of our current debacle?
You can't falsely argue the WMD line of reasoning again and get away with bombing Iran. Or can they? Hasn't this administration used up all credibility such that these cowboy comments should be scrutinized in Congressional Hearings just like the false information previously 'released' about Iran??

CONGRESS, this is when you step in and stop everything and get the hearings going.

since so many of us are out of work because of this bunch of bird brains, let's make good use of our free time and, converge on washington and, throw the bums out!
