DURST: The Republicans Have a Dream?

Durst writes, "Republican Party plans on using videotaped excerpts from Martin Luther King's 'I Have a Dream' speech in their $2 million pro-Proposition 209 ad blitz. This proposition would ban discrimination or preferential treatment of ethnic and gender groups by California public agencies. I was thinking of what historical analogies one could make from this height of twisted arrogance, and these are a few I came up with."

In a show of chutzpah that has most of Tel Aviv gagging, the Republican Party plans on using videotaped excerpts from Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech in their $2 million pro Proposition 209 ad blitz. This proposition would ban discrimination or preferential treatment of ethnic and gender groups by California public agencies. I was thinking of what historical analogies one could make from this height of twisted arrogance, and these are a few I came up with.1. Atomic Energy Commission places photos of devastated wasteland surrounding Chernobyl in annual brochure which pleads for decreased restrictions on reactors.2. American Calvary commissions prints of Battle of Little Big Horn for series of induction posters.3. Hitler uses Yom Kippur as excuse to line up Jews according to size.4. David Duke sponsors Cotton Club reunion.5. Dying lung cancer victims encourage kids to buy chaw.6. National Organization of Women chooses OJ Simpson for keynote speaker at awards dinner.7. Still photos of Ghandi used to sell AK 47s with grenade launchers.8. Survivors of Titanic testify in print ads on the manuerverability of deck chairs.9. Brooke Shields in Yale recruitment pitch.10. The Robbie Alomar dignity in sport Hall of Fame. Will Durst hopes 209 eats big beige banana slugs from Mars.
