Forget Impeachment, Put Bush and Cheney in a Straightjacket

By Rosa Brooks, Los Angeles Times. Posted October 29, 2007.

The president's warmongering remarks on the Iranian threat suggest he is psychotic. Really.

Forget impeachment.

Liberals, put it behind you. George W. Bush and Dick Cheney shouldn't be treated like criminals who deserve punishment. They should be treated like psychotics who need treatment.

Because they've clearly gone mad. Exhibit A: We're in the middle of a disastrous war in Iraq, the military and political situation in Afghanistan is steadily worsening, and the administration's interrogation and detention tactics have inflamed anti-Americanism and fueled extremist movements around the globe. Sane people, confronting such a situation, do their best to tamp down tensions, rebuild shattered alliances, find common ground with hostile parties and give our military a little breathing space. But crazy people? They look around and decide it's a great time to start another war.

That would be with Iran, and you'd have to be deaf not to hear the war drums. Last week, Bush remarked that "if you're interested in avoiding World War III ... you ought to be interested in preventing [Iran] from having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon." On Sunday, Cheney warned of "the Iranian regime's efforts to destabilize the Middle East and to gain hegemonic power ... [we] cannot stand by as a terror-supporting state fulfills its most aggressive ambitions." On Tuesday, Bush insisted on the need "to defend Europe against the emerging Iranian threat."

Huh? Iran is now a major threat to Europe? The Iranians are going to launch a nuclear missile (that they don't yet possess) against Europe (for reasons unknown because, as far as we know, they're not mad at anyone in Europe)? This is lunacy in action.

Writing in Newsweek on Oct. 20, Fareed Zakaria, a solid centrist and former editor of Foreign Affairs, put it best. Citing Bush's invocation of "the specter of World War III if Iran gained even the knowledge needed to make a nuclear weapon," Zakaria concluded that "the American discussion about Iran has lost all connection to reality. ... Iran has an economy the size of Finland's. ... It has not invaded a country since the late 18th century. The United States has a GDP that is 68 times larger and defense expenditures that are 110 times greater. Israel and every Arab country (except Syria and Iraq) are ... allied against Iran. And yet we are to believe that Tehran is about to overturn the international system and replace it with an Islamo-fascist order? What planet are we on?"

Planet Cheney.

Zakaria may be misinterpreting the president's remark about World War III though. He saw it as a dangerously loopy Bush prediction about the future behavior of a nuclear Iran -- the idea being, presumably, that possessing "the knowledge" to make a nuclear weapon would so empower Iran's repressive leaders that they'll giddily rush out and start World War III.

But you could read Bush's remark as a madman's threat rather than a madman's prediction -- as a warning to recalcitrant states, from Germany to Russia, that don't seem to share his crazed obsession with Iran. The message: Fall into line with administration policy toward Iran or you can count on the U.S.A. to try to start World War III on its own. And when it comes to sparking global conflagration, a U.S. attack on Iran might be just the thing. Yee haw!

You'd better believe these guys would do it too. Why not? They have nothing to lose -- they're out of office in 15 months anyway. Après Bush-Cheney, le déluge! (Have fun, Hillary.)

But all this creates a conundrum. What's a constitutional democracy to do when the president and vice president lose their marbles?

The U.S. is full of ordinary people with serious forms of mental illness -- delusional people with violent fantasies who think they're the president, or who think they get instructions from the CIA through their dental fillings.

The problem with Bush is that he is the president -- and he gives instructions to the CIA and military, without having to go through his dental fillings.

Impeachment's not the solution to psychosis, no matter how flagrant. But despite their impressive foresight in other areas, the framers unaccountably neglected to include an involuntary civil commitment procedure in the Constitution.

Still, don't lose hope. By enlisting the aid of mental health professionals and the court system, Congress can act to remedy that constitutional oversight. The goal: Get Bush and Cheney committed to an appropriate inpatient facility, where they can get the treatment they so desperately need. In Washington, the appropriate statutory law is already in place: If a "court or jury finds that [a] person is mentally ill and ... is likely to injure himself or other persons if allowed to remain at liberty, the court may order his hospitalization."

I'll even serve on the jury. When it comes to averting World War III, it's really the least I can do.

He is either incredibly stupid, controlled by the devil himself, bought and owned by big money corporations or he is absolutely certifiable wacko (you may choose at least 3). Any time a president invokes the horrifying name of WorldWarIII, it is not an accident. This is is guy who told them to bring'emon, and they brought'emon. How may died since that taunt literally turned our soldiers into targets and magnets? Now he threatens the world with WW3? I read that as, you're either with me or I push the button. If CheneyBu$hCo only have 15 months left, and let us pray they go quietly, then talk of world war only works to raise market concerns and thus spikes oil prices, pleasing their corporate masters. The news keeps reporting daily that oil has reached new record highs. Coincidence? I think not. This is what the sheeple get for casting a vote for these demons, too bad they're dragging the rest of us into their third ring of hell. I've been watching daily, the US dollar has lost three percentage points against the Canadian dollar in the last 2 or 3 weeks. At that rate the dollar will be worth a peso soon. No wonder Cheney dumped his dollars for Euros. I don't put anything past these guys. And when they start WW3 to fulfill their end time theology, even the new Cheney house in Dubai and the Bush place in (where is it, Paraguay?) won't keep themk safe. B't succeed in starting 'the big one', those places will be handy to escape to when the economic collapse they engineered hits, or when the war crimes tribunals start.....whichever comes first.

The Entire system is corrupt.

America needs another Revolution.

It needs to start all over again, with a lot more love and compassion this time than before.

The country, at present, is in RUIN.

Sad, but, yes, the constitution does seem to need a clause similiar to military regs that allow for a CO to be yanked out of the command seat if suspected of Not Firing On All Nines.

Maybe the next one. Let's look into it, yes.

are former convicted substance abusers.
They brag of how they were CEO's of companies, which qualify them to run the country. What the media failed to disclose is that Harkem Oil filed bankruptcy and was bailed out by Bu$h Sr. associates. Haliburton forced its employees to wage and benefit concessions in order to compensate Cheney his millions in annual bonuses.
They have not fulfilled their sworn oaths abiding by the Constitution, and the pre-emptive "Wars" based off of lies constitute impeachable offenses (including many other ones), and trials of Treason for these heinous crimes should also be held.
before being turned over to the Hague for War Crimes trials.
Then the world would see that the U.S. is serious about its War against "Terrorism".

And while we are at it, several hundred members of Congress...the list goes on......Our nation is full of ignorant, insane, schizophrenic warmongers, which means our courts are filled with the same ilk. Great idea, but like impeachment, regular elections, or commitment to a mental hospital, none of it will work.

Having these bums mentally committed is a nice thought but, practically, it’s too late. Like Bill Maher said, it was evident GW Bush was dysfunctional in 2000 so why didn’t some professionals come forward at that time when he had less power? Mental health professionals would certainly have to be “enlisted” since few if any would step forward on their on and jeopardize their careers. As for the court system, well, it would have to go all the way to the Supreme Court and that’s already been stacked by this administration.
There are in this country a handful of people who could sway and influence and possible sanction Bush but these powerful people may never step forward since they have little to lose whichever way the wind blows.

Pelosi should be prosecuted for her failure to defend the constitution. We could begin by reminding her of Edmund Burke's saying that "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that enough good [women] do nothing" .

As I remark elsewhere today, it was the televised hearings that did for McCarthy. And it was exposure that led to Nixon's resignation.

The American people deserve to hear the story of what was done in their name. Getting enough votes is purely secondary to exposing the truth about Bush and Cheney.

The McCarthy hearings were absolutely riveting and brought America back from the brink. It could and should happen again.

I work with people who have psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia, and it is this type of public discourse that perpetuates the stigma associated with mental illness. All too often, as we can see here, the term "psychotic" is misused to mean irrational. Clinically, to be psychotic means to be out of touch with reality. The Bush administration can accurately be called warmongers, imperialists and even fools, but their actions are calculated and deliberate. Perhaps this is Ms. Brooks' idea of humor, but I believe she's doing a serious disservice to people who actually have to to deal with the struggles of living with severe mental illnesses.

I don't believe it is good enough to give this administration treatment as opposed to punishment. They are war criminals and have put our entire country at risk, they have killed tens of thousands of people as a result of their warmongering, and they have trampled our constitution. This administration is the terrorist and I don't blame other countries for trying to arm themselves against us. They can get treatment after they have been tried for and convicted of their war crimes. First order of business is IMPEACHMENT but we can't seem to get our bullied representatives to do anything except cower and hope it all goes away on its own. REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATORS: DO SOMETHING TO RID US OF THESE INSANE IDIOTS BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. What do you think we put you in office for?

Forewarned Is Forearmed: Bush on Iran
Posted by: Roy Eidelson on Oct 29, 2007 5:28 AM
Current rating: 4    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
The White House’s propaganda campaign laying the groundwork for military action against Iran dates back almost six years—to Bush’s 2002 State of the Union address in which he designated Iran as a founding member of the “axis of evil.” Since then, this drumbeat has waxed and waned as other concerns—primarily the disastrous invasion and occupation of Iraq—have often commanded center stage. Now, with the Bush administration approaching its final year in office, a renewed push and a shorter fuse are increasingly evident. My 3-minute YouTube video entitled “Forewarned Is Forearmed: Bush On Iran” is available HERE. It offers a very brief but deeply troubling chronicle of the president’s public warmongering and demonization of Iran. As has been said before, “the hour is getting late.”

In the End Times (I love appropriating Religious Right lingo) of the Nixon Administration, people close to the president reported he was acting erratic (sitting before a fire in an an air-conditioned room in the middle of summer, for example) and it's been reported that Henry Kissinger used the threat of a Nixon gone mad to scare the Soviets. But what did Nixon in was that a number of influential Senators, Democratic and Republican, saw that he had clearly violated the Constitution and tried to cover it up.

Bush/Cheney have not only usurped their constitutional powers repeatedly, they have rationalized what they have done and defied anyone to challenge them. Both political parties and the mainstream media have turned away rather than confront them. We once had a Constitutional government, and as far as I'm concerned, unless they're impeached, it's over. I'm not going to hold my breath that any viable candidate is going to hand back the powers they have taken.

In the meantime, labeling them as mentally ill lets them off the hook, because it implies a condition in which they have no choice. Make no mistake, they have chosen this course with no concern for the future of the planet. If they're crazy, so are we for trusting them.

Bush and Cheney might be out of touch with reality, but they are crafty and "successful" politicos who have done and gotten just about all they have intended. They will wage war with Iran to create crisis and chaos. Then we will watch them cancel the 2008 elections to remain in power. And the Dems will continue their patsy role and allow them to continue this fascist state. As long as Bush and Cheney remain in office this nation is doomed. And they are so power hungry and maniacal that they cannot just drop the reins. They need to be pulled off their saddles.

What is worrying about America and the situation is, that only 50% vote, the other 50% more than half voted for Bush.
That means that about 20% are against them. They can get away with anything with the lack of interest in what is going on in the country. How do you get the people interested in getting rid of them. The Democrats are just as reliant on the Corporations as the Republicans are.

It was the rising up of the people that stopped the Vietnam war, the Civil Rights movement etc. until the people rise up against this lot, nothing will happen, no matter what.

So long as people fail to see the well-orchestrated cynical sub-plot to the Bush-Cheney machine, they will fail to see the knockout blow hurtling towards their left temple. The agenda of the current administration has been and will continue to be the acquisition and maintenance of political power. We're building towards another "October Surprise" that will miraculously spoil the chances of over-confident Democrats. After witnessing months and months of Democratic congressional indecisiveness and suddenly immersed in another pre-emptive war, the American people will cast their lot with another "decider." The only question is whether the Patriot Act somehow allows GW and Dick to remain in power if martial law is declared.

MISSING INGREDIENT

Rosa Brooks left out the key piece of the puzzle of Bush's brain - the influence of Rev. John Hagee who likes to speak of Biblical Armageddon and the Christian Rapture when a returned Jesus is supposed to crush all the enemies of Christianity and re-create an Earthly paradise for his true believers. Obviously, Bush has the Constututional right to believe whatever he likes, but he has NO right to apply that belief to the performance of his Presidency! America must not become a testing ground for the Book of Revelations, and any president who tries to do it IS INSANE!

Yet, as though in a hypnotic state of submission, Congress, Speaker Pelosi and the American people appear resigned to whatever madness Bush and Cheney plungre into, including an attack on Iran and the inevitable confrontation with Russia and then China = World War Three, which, as everyone knows would reduce the World and all of us to nuclear cinders! Only an insane person would deliberately do such a thing!!!

Therefore, if Speaker of the House Pelosi lacks the courage and mental balance to demand impeachment, the only other remedy I can think of is the well-known 'palace coup' solution in which a group of brave and patriotic citizens within the federal system go to the White House and arrest Bush and Cheny and remove them from office, before it's too late, before Bush can give the fatal order.

Can someone please tell me if it is possible to charge cheney &/or bush the same way France has done to Rumsfled? And if so, can it be done while they're in office?

I can envision a scenario where these two demented barbarians, along with their complicit good 'ol buds, are confined to the US, because one step on foreign soil and they're swept up, tried and imprisoned for life - execution would be far too easy on them - maybe somewhere that respects human rights and the Geneva Convention as much as they do.

It's too bad that you Americans would have to put up with them in that case, but you did allow them to get to where they could do so much damage, so it is really your fault. Otherwise there's always rendition - cheney seems to be an expert in that, among other sick practices. The only thing that bush seems any good at, however, is screwing up, as he's proven his entire sad life. Makes you wonder about his parents and his upbringing, doesn't it?

I don't know about this mental illness bit, and strongly suspect we are all a bit marginal at times. Where do you draw the line anyway, and isn't it a fuzzy one? It seems to me those who designate these things often appear somewhat flakey themselves. Which brings me back to my first statement.
What I AM certain of is those in the forefront of pushing for war are WAR CRIMINALS and must be tried as such, especialy in the case of Iraq and Iran. For some, Afganistan may be marginal, but they must remember "Afganistan" did not attack the 9/11 buildings.
Back to OUR war criminals, the list of their Impeachment Articles is too lengthy to list, and should be a 'Slam Dunk' for certain - providing we had actual representative in congress.

America needs another revolution. But its not gonna happen because Americans are lazy and ignorant. They would rather retreat to their televisions and consumer products than actually do anything socially constructive. Would the rest of the world care if America goes down the toilet? No. The rest of the world hates America and would rather enjoy watching it implode. It would be like watching hord of greedy, scavenging rats drowning on a sinking raft. Good luck with your "not gonna happen" revolution.

Impeach both Bush and Cheney for failing to uphold the Constitution as they swore they would... twice - first when elected and again when re-elected. Then indict them for the actual crimes they've committed - like wiretapping without warrant. (Nixon was a piker compared to these guys - they're in the BIG LEAGUES criminalwise!) Then perhaps allow them to be indicted by a world judicial body for attacking a sovereign country without provocation. I always thought that kind of behavior was for other countries, not the US.

I think one of the other posters was right when they said that until the PEOPLE stand up against what's happening, nothing substantive will be done.

I think if Bush/Cheney and Co. get us into a war with Iran and we have to institute a draft to provide bodies for the body bags, something will happen then. However, by then, it will be too late. If you think a lot of Muslims and Islamists hate us now, wait 'til you see what happens when we've got wars going in three Islamist countries!

It'll sure be Party Time then, boys and girls.

History will look favorably on Bush and Cheney. Take yourself back to Sept 12, 2001 and ask yourself if you though we could go this long with no terrorist attack on America. Bush has done an outstanding job and he will be remembered for that. All you lefties need to learn a thing or two about leadership.

They are insane in the figurative sense, no doubt, but not in the legal sense, in my opinion. I do not believe that they do not know right from wrong, but rather that they know the difference, but do not care.

Other people's pain means nothing to them. If you must give them clinical labels, perhaps "sociopathic" might fit them better. Something more along the lines of narcissistic personality disorder or antisocial personality disorder.

Whatever their personality disorder(s), the ICC ought to be their destination, not a comfy asylum.

This focus on Bush and Cheney is SO wrong. They could not make war without the consent of the bulk of the political establshment (DP and RP). They may be bunglers in many ways, but they are carrying out what has been fundamental u.s. foreign policy since the late 1940s. The overthrow of Mossedegh was really the first shot in the current war, and Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Carter, Reagan, the first Bush, and Clinton are every bit as responsible for this war as are Bush and Cheney.

Get over the liberal daydream that it is only bad people in D.C who are causing this war.

I thank Ms. Parks for writing an essay on a subject I think a lot of people agree with. I know I do. I empathize with those who feel the mentally ill are being maligned in some way by the terminology of this article, but the fact remains that sometimes mentally ill people commit horrendous crimes and these two HAVE lost touch with reality and ARE committing horrendous crimes. If one cannot comprehend that the earth - not just a particular country - is in mortal jeopardy, one has lost ALL touch with reality. We are running out of ALL resources not just oil and certainly more important than oil - water, arable land, space to live - and yet the waste of all our resources continues with this horrible war and these criminal monsters Bush and Cheney now essentially threatening all humanity with World War III. Make no mistake, it WAS a threat and we are the perpetrators of that threat, not Iran.

I remember Chomsky making this point in an interview. He suggested that it has sometimes been the calculated image US governments have tried to project. Not that of a rational actor but as of a vengeful, incaclulable hitman prone to violence and sudden fits of rage. "What we say goes". The difference to regular 'saber rattling' is of course that the US really is the biggest kid on the block and could - according to Podhoretz - attack Iran with five minutes notice from its ships.

"Because they've clearly gone mad. Exhibit A: We're in the middle of a disastrous war in Iraq, the military and political situation in Afghanistan is steadily worsening, and the administration's interrogation and detention tactics have inflamed anti-Americanism and fueled extremist movements around the globe."

America needed enemies. They created one. "The Terrorists" It's always said like this, as if there is a group of people called that. But it's a general term. That's right, America is at war with a general term. Now with all the hate that's been generated toward the US by their own high crimes of invasion, murder, and torture on a massive scale Saddam Hussein could have only dreamed about, Dick Cheney and his bosses in Oil with their Globalisation, Free Trade, Free Market, Hyper-growth, idolatrous fake-Christian Ideology well in place are getting fabulously rich. The neocon writings from the 90s were clear, they needed their "Pearl Harbour" moment.

It has all gone according to plan. Ask and oil man. They plan these things years in advance. It's small, insane, thinking but that's how they are. China and Russia are far better at it and kill fewer people. If anyone ever told me I'd grow up from the Cold War to find China and Russia turned into the good guys while the USA murders, invades, and throws out the Constitution as a "piece of paper" (to quote Dick) I'd have beat you into the ground.

I need a drink.

Let's review our situation to date: 1. The bushies stole the 2000 "election". 2. They did the same in 2004. 3. In both cases we, the American people LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT, and look at the mess we're in as a result of our ignorance, fear, indifference, or whatever else you want to call it. The crime spree that began on Jan. 20th., 2001, and continues to this day, getting ever more irrational and dangerous as time passes, can be laid at the door of our incredibly lazy and ignorant people. This regime has proven time and again, that if given an inch, such as in 2000 & 2004, they'll take a mile or more. Does it really matter that our figurehead "president" is out of his nitwit, or that quasimodo cheney is a homicidal nut? If they're not stopped, and soon, there's no telling what they'll come up with next, including another phony 911, martial law, an end to our elections as king george puts on his tiara and proclaims himself Permanent Poobah in Charge. If they follow form, the 2008 "election" is irrelevant, as "other priorities" will prevail.

All this talk about ww3 is just propaganda to cover their tracks, so that you do not see the real war. Who would you start ww3 with? I would bet they already have made a deal with China, and China has nothing to lose so they are willing to sit by and see what shakes out. That leaves Russia a few weapons on their boarder will keep them occupied besides we played this game with them a long time. It is to bad that Russia will not make a deal like China. The plan for world domination is in full swing and every thing is on schedule. Hillary is ready to serve. Stop playing the religion card, you are so far off base with what is happening within the creation, you are being deceived. Throw out the religious ideology bs and just look at who is fighting whom, and guess why.

We were the ones attacked on 9-11 and he has taken what ever support we had then and squandered it.

His comments re WW3 seem to be taken as Iran starting it via an attack on Isreal, gulf shipping, distablizing the Saudis etc... it's time for diplomacy which Bush doesn't seem capable of instead of fanning the flames!

Does congress have what it takes to keep this under control!

As a licensed counselor in the field of addictions,I must admit that you have a point.I am qualified to screen for mental status assessments, but would have to refer to a M.D. if the patient/client needed meds.
Bush and Cheney exhibit clear signs and symptoms of addictive disease. Symptoms of chronic addictive disease mimic psychosis in the mid to late stages. Both Bush and Cheney late late stage power addicts. As such their disease has progressed to the point where psychotic behavior is the norm.As with most politicians and main stream media pundits, enabling these behaviors offer them a feeling of safety.Due to their extreme denial and delusion, the enablers are most likely sicker than the addicts themselves.
As a counselor of addicts I have accepted the fact that chronic late stage addiction is incurable unless some form of Divine intervention such as a miracle takes place.Being a realist,I do not think this will happen. So I would ask every American to do what Johnathon Winters suggested in his 1961 comedy album Whistlestopping: " carry a ,45 and a prayer book, and pray to God we`re doing the right thing."

Yes, the time for self-deception --- or, more accurately, deception by the phony two-party government, and the phony corporatist media --- is over.

If Jefferson were to look at things today he would have no trouble in realizing the reality of the 'Wizard of Oz' that "we're not in Kansas anymore". In fact, Jefferson would clearly see what we have been blinded to ---- that we're not in the United States of America anymore ---- we're in an EMPIRE.

As Jefferson might say in the tone of Lloyd Benson's mocking of Dan Quale, "I knew a democratic Republic, and sir, this is no democratic Republic ---- it has become an EMPIRE"

Jefferson might continue his candor, "My old friend Ben Franklin warned that 'we have our Republic now, if we can keep it'. But you modern Americans have not kept it. It has been entirely stolen from 'we the people', and it is clearly a global corporate EMPIRE --- which looks to me not much different than what George, Ben, myself and other Americans gave their blood to overthrow two centuries ago."

Jefferson might rightly say, "You deluded and deceived modern Americans seem not to be able to see the reality of what's before your own eyes any better than those seven blind men describing the elphant. It's not a trunk here and tail there you fools. Rip-off your phony two-party political blindfolds. Rip-off your phony dissembling corporate media lies and see the truth. It's an 8 ton elephant of EMPIRE standing in the seat of your government in Washington, good sirs."

Jefferson might continue and counsel, "Don't you modern Americans even bother to think before you vote? A decade ago, I undestand, you took the advice of a philanderer (although I'm not against getting some on the side myself), and voted, 'It's the economy, stupid' --- but that philanderer, unlike myself, **cked the country, in addition to the maid."

"Don't you modern Americans realize that the only truth worth voting for would be the true campaign slogan, 'It's the EMPIRE, stupid'? That's the common seed of the people's discontent and frustration, good sirs!! That's the seat of tyranny. good sirs."

"Don't you modern Americans even study history? Have you no understanding of that 20th century Empire called Nazism installing a phony facade of a government in France after they occupied it --- which was called 'Vichy France'?"

"Well, good sirs, if you even bothered to study that political pathology of Empire, you would understand that you fools are living in a much more sophisticated and guileful version of a 21st century global corporate EMPIRE hiding behind this facade of a phony government tha you may still salute ---- but which I would call 'Vichy America', you fools!!"

"Indeed, the 'tree of liberty must be nourished from time to time with the blood of tyrants'. I can well understand that the enlightened views of this young fellow, Martin King, and the nature of those auful modern weapons, make the actual use of bloody rebellion today quite existential, but, my good sirs, as one poster here has already prudently pointed out, 'at least you should all be out in the streets' --- even if unarmed, like that younger Chinese boy in front of the tank."

"BTW, whats a tank? I certainly know what a tankard is but this tank seems quite ugly in its purpose."

"Good luck in your own fight against the universal, historical evil of EMPIRE. We beat it once --- and I'm sure you can prevail since, [whisper] 'the only thing you have to fear' --- oh, shut up Frankie, you caved to the corporate bastards also."

Bush and Cheney are not crazy. Be warned. This is the NeoCon strategy for 2008. They will build up to and begin a war with Iran. Then, The Mayor will obtain the Republican nomination. They will then argue that the country, in marshal law status, cannot afford to change parties at the top. The more the Dems and Hillary commit to an anti-war strategy the more likely will be the war and the projected image of "Republican security" versus "Democratic weakness." The Expanded War is the ONLY chance the NeoCons have to steal another election. Think: Rudy with Thompson or Rice as a running mate! Why Rice, besides the current war-mongering? They can then use the smoke of "Black Female" to explain why the computer-assisted voter (fraud) machines registered heavy votes for Rudy, going against the trends of realism, in Dems' traditional precincts. Demographics. With or without Rice, it is Rudy and War as the 2008 Platform. God help us all.

Junk Article--Writer needs to open a Dictionary

Current rating: 4    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
This is a junk article based on false concepts and false understanding. Oh that the writer would have opened a dictionary before starting to spout this trash.

First, psychotic disorders are severe mental disorders that cause abnormal thinking and perceptions. People with psychoses lose touch with reality. You don't put such people in strait jackets, you use drugs or similar means of control.

Second, Bush and Cheney could plausibly be called psychopaths, but even that is problematic because they don't seem to lack empathy (for their own kind), they do not have poor impulse control (both are highly disciplined), and both have a conscience of sorts.

If anything, Bush, at any rate (I don't know about Cheney) is definitely a sociopath: authoritarian, secretive, paranoid, narcissistic, grandiose (self-importance not based on achievments), may state readily that their goal is to rule the world ("There's nothing wrong with dictatorship--so long as I'm the dictator," as Bush said in 2000). But do you put such people in strait jackets--or do you lock them up?

At any rate, I don't think the psychic state of a president has the least bearing on the matter at hand. Psychopath, sociopath, psychotic, it doesn't matter. What does matter is that he has made erroneous decisions, is a war criminal, and should not only be impeached, but tried in a Nuremburg-style court, but I'm not holding my breath, and nor should you.

psychopath or sociopath, not psycotic

Shrub and dick vador are psychopaths or sociopaths, not psychotic. They are unconditional egoists, capable of killing any amount of people for their ends.
In our evolutionary past, the psychopathic parasite on human society has survived in a particular niche: power. Generals, emperors, tyrants, Attila, Genghis, Caesar, Alexander, kings and aristocrats galore have shown a fine disregard for the feelings of others. The Double U and his puppet master are but the latest incarnation. Power atracts psychopaths, power encourages psychopathic behaviour. Look at corporate behaviour: the same mindless fixation on immediate and massive acquisition.
We need to build defenses against psychopaths. They can be very smart, very charming, but they can see murder as an acceptable way to get what they want.
Not discounting gray areas en sliding scales, about 3 per cent of the human species is psychopathic. Not very much, but still quite a few millions. Quite enough to create an ad hoc conspiracy for an all-out, no holds barred run on all the earth's remaining resources, so they can guzzle what's left.

The truth is ugly: Resource war, Petro Dollar, Peak oil

Oil closed above $93.00 a barrel today and the dollar went even lower, but inflation seems to be under control, so much so that the feds are suppose to cut the rate again this week. Why do I biring this up? We are paying more for oil now than they did in the 70's energy crisis when adusted for inflation and yet we have few of the negatives that they did then.

I know that real wages have stagnated and wealth is being trasferred to the wealthy and it seems like they are just letting the bubble build more by encouraging it through rate cuts, but still what an economy. I would have predicted all out recession with $90.00 a barrel oil.

I bring this up because its all about the oil, wait let me repeat that OIL, OIL, OIL. We are less than five years away from not the peak but the cliff and yes it is a cliff. These men are oil men and they know we have no alternatives and over half the oil is located in Iraq. Don't believe me, then look up peak oil and net energy, because all these alteratives use more energy than they create. Its close people, there is something bigger than bush and cheney and its called peak energy. They know this, and thats why they have no problem burrowing money and installing bases to secure it. You think the value of the dollar is low now, then just wait, Iran is trying to sell oil in euros and thats what this is really about.

We are never told the truth and we will always have to seek it out. You better stop worrying about the current people in power because hillary will be no different and even if Kucinich won he would be killed or we would lynch him just like we did carter when he tried to start a sustainable economy. Its time to learn to live without oil.

I write this knowing I will probably get no replies becuase everytime I bring up the fact that those muhlas aren't going to shed a tear let alone a drop of oil when we are starving to death and give the sycopaths a motive that may just be in our interests, I get no response

Please don't lump people with legitimate mental illnesses in with these assholes. I once suffered from psychosis, and Bush and Cheney do not have the symptoms of it. They may be power-hungry bastards, but they do not suffer from psychosis.

Americanistic Personality Disorder
Posted by: snideelf on Oct 29, 2007 9:04 PM
Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
By Jason Miller

10/8/07

Cluster B Personality Disorders

1776.0 Americanistic Personality Disorder

Diagnostic Criteria for 1776.0 Americanistic Personality Disorder:

A pervasive pattern of greed, selfishness, and lack of empathy, beginning the moment he or she begins to intellectualize and presented in nearly all contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:

1. lacks empathy due to an excessive degree of self-absorption
2. believes that he or she is exceptional and morally superior
3. frequently engages in exploitative behaviors
4. requires frequent acquisition of goods he or she doesn’t need
5. usually resorts to some form of overt or covert violence, coercion, or extortion to resolve conflicts
6. perceives others as obstacles to his or her “success”
7. disregards laws and rules except as a means to achieve his or her agenda
8. demonstrates deep hypocrisy by projecting a righteous, benevolent image while committing reprehensible acts
9. refuses to accept the consequences of his or her actions

The essential features of Americanistic Personality Disorder include pervasive patterns of extreme self-absorption, profound and long-term lapses in empathy, a deep disregard for the well-being of others, a powerful aversion to intellectual honesty and reality, and a grossly exaggerated sense of the importance of one’s self and one’s nation. These patterns emerge in infancy, manifest themselves in nearly all contexts, and often become pathological.

These patterns have also been characterized as sociopathic, or colloquially as the “Ugly American Syndrome.” Note that the latter terminology carries too benign a connotation to accurately describe an individual afflicted with such a dangerous perversion of character.

For this diagnosis to be given, the individual must be deeply immersed in the flag-waving, nationalistic, and militaristic fervor derived primarily from the nearly perpetual barrage of reality warping emanations of the “mainstream media,” most commonly through the medium of television. Typically indoctrinated from birth to believe that they are morally superior, exceptional human beings, these individuals suffer from severe egocentrism, a condition further engendered by the prevalence of the acutely toxic dominant paradigm known as capitalism.

Individuals with Americanistic Personality Disorder are generally covertly racist, xenophobic, and openly speciesistic. They readily participate in the execution of heinous crimes against human and non-human animals, even if their complicity is banal and limited. As long as they are comfortable, safe, and enjoying the relative affluence and convenience afforded by their nation’s economic extortion, cultural genocide, rape of other species and the environment, and imperial conquests, such individuals display an apathetic disregard for the well-being of other human beings, sentient creatures, and the environment.

It's what parasite Fascist handlers behind Washington and the corporate media have done that matters.

They have palmed off a vicious, phony 9/11 false-flag event (that could perhaps fool a child) into a permanent bogus "war on terror" of Orwellian murder, deception and worse.

All of it at America's expense. All of it for the benefit of cozy Fascist psychopaths drunk on blood money profit and self-aggrandizement.

If you think America’s paranoid nightmare will end when temp clown GW Bush is gone and hiding at his compound of choice, you are seriously deluded.

This will get far, far worse before it gets better.

Criminal Insanity

I've been saying for years that the people in charge of this administration are criminally insane. Simply put, that means they can't tell right from wrong. For example, they think it's OK to kill people and/or destroy the planet for money and power, as evidenced by their immoral and illegal war in Iraq, their threats to attack Iran (which they already have done through proxy troops attacking from Pakistan), and their threats to start WW III (disguised as blaming Iran though they might be).

These types of people are morally and spiritually defective and should be confined with treatment until they are either cured or they die of old age. They are a danger and a menace to the entire planet and should not be allowed to roam free due to the massive destruction they cause.

This, and more articles addressing these kinds of problematics, are urgently needed!! I despair that it's not ONLY Bush II or Cheney who are laboring either in or perilously near these same kinds of thinking and acting.

It's no longer simply (!!??) a problem of WHAT we may or may not think or believe or profess or advocate; it seems it's a matter also of HOW we are thinking about all these matters.

It seems that it's not only Bush II or Cheney and others but even POLICIES of this administration are exhibiting purposes and intentions that can certainly be described in terms more like those of the Psychiatric Diagnostic Manuals than any other fields. It seems like "Think Tanks" are becoming so self-absorbed and internal that their 'stewing in their own juices' and are, or are fast becoming, 'over-cooked'. The declaration of a "War on Terror" has resolved itself into a declaration of "War" pure and simple in all its glorious generality and universality, in its eloquent abstraction -- un-ending (eternal) and un-located (anywhere). We are witnessing the return on a higher plane of Absolutism and "Divine Right". The word "terror-ism' has achieved the same dubious distinction-- by now definable by any whim or whimsy of the person who uses it. Care with words and thinking with and about them has become a necessity for each one of us.

Mr Bush II and Mr Cheney and many of their loyal compadres believe themselves endowed to whisper Life into a Universal Idea -- why, they are capable of Incarnation!! Especially these days, we fallible and lowly natural and human beings certainly don't need "Leaders" or "Leader-ship" such as this. Whatever one's particular values are, we each ought to consider such thinking processes.

Thanks again for the article. There may yet be hope for a saner and more reasonable (as opposed to 'purely' rational) world, where perhaps human beings can further develop their more civilized and dignified potentialities.

We must do something!

When Nancy Pelosi said that "Impeachment is off the table", I really didn't think she meant it. Or at least I thought it was off the table for past sins and not ongoing or new ones. Then John Conyers stated that he could start impeachment proceedings as head as the judiciary committee and stated that if people approached him he would do so, but when Cindy Sheahan presented him with a petition for impeachment with over A MILLION SIGNATURES on it, he did nothing.

I suggested at that time that these people should be the subject of recall petitions in their districts. Everybody knows what last November's elections were about. And now are representatives do nothing!?

Then I suggested that if congress would not impeach, that the President should be ruled unfit to fulfill his duties as President, as per the Constitution. Almost any mental health professional would rule that the President is not fit to fulfill his duties. Sure that would give us Cheney as President, but this really would be a shot across their bow, and Cheney would know that he couldn't be as reckless.

Something needs to be done before we invade Iran and before the next election as the President has signed Executive Orders and Presidential Directives that allow him to suspend Congress in case of a National Emergency which he can unilaterally declare. Then who is going to represent the people of America?

Are all these people in on this administration's plan and just leaving them do whatever they want: Nancy Pelosi, John Conyers and by the way, Hillary Clinton? Remember that Hillary just voted to give President Bush the power to invade Iran by voting for the resolution declaring the Irianian Guard a terrorist group? What would people around the world say if the American Military is declared a terrorist organization?

I think at this point in time, a recall effort should be started against Nancy Pelosi and John Conyers to get their attention and put them back on track as to why the Democrats were voted into the majority back in November. And damn the timing! They purposely are using the timing against us (elections are almost here, etc.) And if they don't respond to the initiation of a recall petition, then recall them!

I also do think that someone in Congress should call for President Bush to undergo a psychiatric exam by several independent doctors to determine his mental health. This is part of the Constitution. He cannot refuse. Do it now! Attack on all fronts.

Instead these Democrats and Republicans that are working together give us a raise in the minimum wage that is WAY PAST DUE to placate us and give us CONGRESSIONAL HEARINGS for show that produce nothing! We, The People, have to do something! Let's do it now!

All these things must be done as quickly as possible to at least get things rolling before the general election in November. We will probably not get to vote, unless Hillary is assured the Presidency.

Bush as sociopath/psychopath

Read Justin Frank's Bush, "Bush on the Couch." He correctly diagnoses George. This guy has all the classic signs: his exterior of looking friendly and good natured, early childhood torture of animals, family history, school history, history of substance abuse....need we say more. Sociopaths are the most dangerous because they sometimes look good on the exterior and people don't believe that they are truly capable of such violence and mass murder. Most of our country is in denial and we are in big trouble.

First, I concur that our current administration is mad, psychotic, or crazy like a fox. But, that is no comfort. It only means that we are in for some terrifying surprises in the very near future. Madmen do not heal, they push harder. Americans hope that our common sense and resolve will stop this newest war drum,IRAN, and the administration FEARS this as well. They must bind us first, to attack Iran. I predict 'terrorist attacks', on our land, which will, as in Pakistan, result in martial law being implemented. It will also result in a draft, and suspension of civil liberties that remain. There will be no 08' elections, and this viper pit we call the Administration, will have total control. Their goal from day one of their oozing into office. World War 3 means we too will be bound by chains.
