Top 10 Reasons Why Paul Wolfowitz Was a Great World Bank President
Sign up to stay up to date on the latest headlines via email.
1. He personally helped address the nagging problem of unequal pay for women by giving his "female companion" a $47,000 raise.
2. This past week, he diverted Bush cabinet officials from fighting the Iraq War, spinning Alberto Gonzales, and figuring out a way to invade Iran by keeping them on the phone to foreign governments to defend his proud record.
3. He weakened the Bush administration's Iraq War brain trust by bringing other key neo-conservative bureaucrats from the Pentagon with him to run the Bank and badger its staff.
4. He buttressed the "Coalition of the Willing" (the brave countries that backed Bush's invasion of Iraq) by promoting unqualified people from those countries into numerous top positions at the Bank.
5. He managed to convince governments of the world's eight most powerful countries to give the Bank key global leadership role in the fight against climate change while the Bank continued to be the world's largest subsidizer of fossil fuels.
6. He made the difficult concept of corruption real to ordinary people.
7. He unified the World Bank staff against a common enemy.
8. He took up so much of The Washington Post the day after tendering his "resignation" that Paris Hilton's sentencing got pushed to page three of the "Style" section.
9. His scandal drew attention to three decades of terrific work by World Bank critics on everything from the environment to worker rights to family planning to the irony of someone who makes nearly $400,000 offering advice to those who make less than a dollar a day.
10. By resigning before he had to be forklifted out the door, he may have preserved the time-honored tradition of the U.S. government naming the World Bank president, possibly offering the Bush administration an exit strategy for Alberto Gonzales.

He showed that the age old practice of favouring your own over others is not only done only by third world officials but also by leaders from the so called developed world! Except in this case there is absolutely no excuse - just plain old corruption and abuse of power by a crooked politician from the USA and a sycophant of Bush. We are no better than them and the quicker they realise that the better for us all.

It would be tax deductible, I'm sure, since he and his cronies re-wrote the tax codes to include "charitable" contributions to terrorist groups like Blackwater, the Carlyle Group and Halliburton.
He would get to make the grand gesture which would deflect the criticism that he is a Master Thief and his girlfriend is really a very expensive whore.
And with the tax break, he would get every penny of it back.
His announcement that his resignation would be effective in 6 weeks was Mighty White of him, most people who resign their jobs to avoid being fired only give two weeks notice.
and that only so the employer has a chance to interview candidates to replace him.
Which I am sure the World Bank Trustees have already been doing for quite some time now.
I guess he needs the extra time to clean out the Bank oooops I mean his Desk.
And he needn't worry about standing in the unemployment line too long, his political party which i shall not mention the name thereof but it rhymes with Republican, is always on the lookout to hire particularly talented thieves.

And now he has the distinction, as Bill Maher quipped, of being the only jew who can't run a bank. Based on this last one, Israel will quite likely rescind his dual citizenship.
But not to worry, along with all the other incompetent fuckups, he's probably slated to receive the Medal of Freedom (Fuckup).
He deserves to be fired outright, instead he's being allowed to dictate the terms of his "leaving". As a master scumbag he has accumulated enough dirt on others to insure a safe and prosperous future.

Rather than read his 10 points about Paul Wolfowitz, I immediately googled Cavanagh's foundation, Institute for Policy Studies, and checked its board of directors, a standard investigative technique of mine
Expecting a nest of NWO neocon snakes, I was stunned to find two of my favorite progressive social commentators, Barbara Ehrenreich and Katrina vanden Heuvel.
WAIT A MINUTE! my startled brain shouted.
Then I returned to AlterNet and did what I should’ve done in the first place: read Cavanagh’s 10-point article
Well done, Joe. You truly deserve a Pulitzer!

Wolfowitz was perfect to lead such an organization. What doesn't make sense is that his underlings at the World Bank didn't appreciate him. With their track record, how could they possibly have been concerned with a few extra bucks going to his lover?
So, the real question is: What's the real reason the World Bank is so upset with Wolfowitz?
[« Reply to this comment] [Post a new comment »] [Rate this comment: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5]
» Because Wolfowitz said the Iraq War would pay for itself. What kind of "banker" is that?

Wolfowitz shows the key to getting Alberto out of the DOJ: Alberto just needs about a $1M separation package and he could return to some more harmless life style, like representing Republican politicians/operatives indicted for corruption.

The PNAC agenda was saimply that, with the collapse of the Soviet Union, the U.S. was now the world super-power militarily. This military supremacy was the iron fist for U.S. based multi-national corporations to secure economic resources and power throughout the world.
Now, as the corporations start making more profit abroad, they are leaving the sinking ship. Halliburton has moved it's corporate offices to Dubai. After looting the U.S. and leaving the country and people with vast debts.

When you go to ripping off the richest of the rich, you know they're gonna come down hard on you.
These kids he's been playing with lately just ain't any kind of Nice and Sweet. They're kind of like what the Mafia would be if the Mafia actually had a lot of money.
Which they do, but not nearly as much as these bastards.
His girlfriend isn't the only one who should avoid flying.
Mayhaps he should take that million or so in separation fees and bonuses and invest in a large tract of land, and about 50 Rottweilers. And a good alarm system.
And some heavy duty firepower.
