Representative Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) announced yesterday that he would file articles of impeachment against vice president Dick Cheney. The charges are among the most serious ever contemplated under either domestic or international law.

The resolution claims the Vice President "purposely manipulated the intelligence process" and "fabricated a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction" in order to "deceive the American public" and the Congress and launch a war of aggression against Iraq. It also accuses him of actively seeking to launch a second war against Iran. (You can download the complete text of the resolution here, or view a clip of Kucinich's press conference here.)

Not only do the charges constitute the "high crimes" that were contemplated by the founders as the basis of impeachment, they're also included in the principles set out during the Nuremberg Tribunal that followed World War II.

The judges that made up the Tribunal said that launching a war of aggression was "not only an international crime, it is the supreme international crime, differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole."

Other legal precedents were established at Nuremberg. Principle Three is unequivocal: "The fact that a person who committed an act which constitutes a crime under international law acted as Head of State or responsible Government official does not relieve him from responsibility under international law."

As the Kucinich resolution makes clear, Cheney's alleged crimes violate treaties ratified by the U.S. Congress -- meaning that they are also part of United States law -- second in force only to the Constitution itself.

In most of the world, this would be considered a grave matter. Given the enormous loss in blood, treasure and prestige that's resulted from the disastrous occupation of Iraq, it should be here, as well. But in Washington there seems to exist a perverse rule that's followed slavishly by the DC Press corps: the more serious the matter, the more one should treat it as a joke.

So it was that the news was greeted with the derision that only a city cloistered in a bubble like DC's could muster when discussing an illegal war that's killed more than a half-million human beings.

The trivialization started with the media quoting unnamed "Democratic aides" making statements like: "We'll see a Kucinich Administration before we'll see a Cheney impeachment."

Today, the Washington Post's Dana Milbank turned his middle-aged frat-boy analytical skills to taking Kucinich down a peg; his typically dismissive lede:

"I do not stand alone," Dennis Kucinich said as he stood, alone, in front of a cluster of microphones yesterday evening.

That passes for funny in Dana Milbank's mind. Milbank (who is himself a very, very short man) also got in a few crucially important thoughts about Kucinich's height:

Here's hoping that your plane doesn't blow up shortly after take-off or you don't accidentally drive off some icy (dry) bridge. We all know this has absolutely no chance of succeeding but it's nice to see that someone in D.C. still has a sack.

As for Cheney . . . I wouldn't worry about him being dethroned any time soon. His guardian angels, i.e. Halliburton, Exxon, Northrup and AIPAC will never, ever allow such a gross miscarriage of justice. Cheney's a patriot and good for the top 1% who direct this 3-ring circus. There's simply too much latent war profiteering to be had. The big boys won't cut him loose just yet. Once we have added Iran to our ever-padded CV of fucked up oil grabs, then it'll be Terror Alert: Red all the time and the round up can get underway.

In a way, the prospect of an impeachment is even more frightening than the status quo. It backs them into a corner and I think this admin. will do anything to remain in power.

Here we have an administration, with Cheney the obvious ringleader, who do not serve the American public but rather serve the needs of their their own hierarchy. Will what they do,decide,
benefit their constituents? Are they taking "we" the general public into consideration before initiating their ultimate game plan? Will we as a nation see less restrictions/taxes/inconveniences while we try to raise our kids...our families? Is this administration doing the "will of its people"...or have we become the "serfs" they hope we are? Having said this.......is just throwing them out of office justice? Or should they stand before us and be judged for crimes they`ve committed against not only we as a nation, but
against all humanity?

Impeachment proceedings are equivalent to a person bringing a lawsuit, or in this case a frivolous lawsuit. The fact that the liberal community dislikes Bush does not translate into proof of an impeachable offense. There is no evidence that Bush or Cheney have committed a high crime.

Let impeachment proceedings commence and be rejected. Let Bush be vindicated in a public forum. Of course, the liberal lie machine will undoubtedly create some conspiracy theory like they did in the 2000 and 2004 elections, but it is no secret that truth is the enemy of the liberal ideology.

Poor Kuchinich...

He thinks the country is run by respectable, Constitution-following men and women? Poor dear, did he miss out on 2000's election? Did he miss out on 9/11? Did he miss the illegality that was/is the occupation of Afghanistan? Iraq? Oh no, he VOTED FOR THIS SHIT! So now, he says (rightly) that Cheney is criminally negligent; but, he fails to say that he too, by voting for authorization and funding, is also negligent. The greater majority of the dems, in fact, share responsiblity for Cheney/Bush actions, which is why they'll be no impeachment. The fact that he's hanging his premise on "misuse of intelligence" both insults my own and shows he's still stepping around the bush: if I could, in 03', gather what was what in Iraq WITHOUT access to this Holy Grail called "intelligence", then why couldn't he see it? Oh wait...

Perhaps he was too busy patting Kerry on the ass while Iraqis died in the streets.

Keepin it real baby!

Hannah Arendt, explained that Hitler and fascism did not drop from the sky, but was supported, financed by Corporate Capitalists, and corrupted middle class layers, theselves agents of class ideology, class nationalism and class imperialism for German Corporate Fascism. The point to her famous quote, "the banality of evil", is to expose all levels of class corruption, in a class society, and how it produced the disaster of the Holocaust, wars of aggression, dictatorship, and class laws being used, already corrupting democracy, to further strip rights from ordinary citizens, and find scapegoats, Jews, today Arabs, "ragheads", "immigrants", to hide behind the class rot and class tyranny of German Corporate fascism, today Amerikan corporate fascism.

The public must get a clue, relate some fundamental relations, disenfranchisement, the class corruption, class despotism on their liberties, rights. Class corrupts democracy, so long as the middle class, the basis of the social claim to all ideologies, as the social mechanism, is crippled, limited, subordinated, corrupted by upper class rule, instead of a universal middle class, inherently reflecting revolutionary moral values, revolutionary center, into class hierarchies, class elites, with class ideologists, themselves agents of class corruption, shock troops for class tyranny.

This would explain why the phony opposition, phony democracy, phony anti war positions, of both the democrats, class appeasers, and republicans, class thugs, is pushed as real alternatives, when in fact they should be prosecuting, executive, legislative, judicial class elites, all corrupted equally by class ideology, and class standards, as war criminals, complicit in the "banality of evil", corrupting middle layers endorsing fascist foreign policies, imperial policies, class nationalism, which betrayed the universal national ideology of revolutionary liberals, internationalists, of the Enlightenment, to produce a corrupt false class unity of the nation state, extended to class Empire.

When a majority of people are opposed to war, and all of its class elites, democrats, republicans, neocons, zionists, liberal class appeasers, are completely ignoring the wishes of a slowly informing public, no thanks to the Corporate Media and their liars, you know we are close to revolutionary chages. We do not need a crippled, subordinated, corrupted, and corrupting, middle class, "bourgois" feminists, "bourgeois minorities, equal opportunity class mercenaries, along with their class hiearchies, that filter out democracy, and fundamental change, like Pelosi on impeachment and war crimes trials. We do not need the Corprorate Media cheering Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Biden, Edwards, as "rock stars", as the superficial opportunists, who grovel for class imperialism, espeically AIPAC, the Israeli lobby, when there are others like Nader, Kucinich who really are more like the "rock stars" opposed to this corporate fascism, and global capitalism. But then the public is slow to learn these fundamental relations of class corruption, and it is time to point out that eliminating class hierarchies, which corrupt even the U.N. charter through the Security Council, would end this rot once and for all. Is any one out there learning, listening????

and I am making an outcry.

I concur with the articles of Impeachment that I have read against Cheney.

I support Dennis Kucinich in his integrity. He is the only one not celebrating the bill passed recently by his party financing the war if we get out by the time Bush is out. Goody. Just what Bush wants and what we didn't. Kucinich has stated he believes the Democratic leadership should reflect what we voted them in to do. End this administration's war.

NOT in my name. Our troops are not defending us. They are the agressors. They are not defending our freedom, they are forcing the Bush Administration's ideals in the Middle East.

Go Dennis!

As one of the most, dare I say it?, evil, self serving individuals that I have ever encountered, albeit only through T.V., getting rid of this particular Vice President would be a great advancement for the American Dream launched in the 1700's. He has guided this nation of great ideals into a miasma of hellish endeavors such I have not encountered since the great West's wiping out of the of the indigenous inhabitants. Now I'm pissed, and anything we can do to eliminate this threat to world peace will be greatly appreciated.

You would have thought that after Bill Moyers exposed the flaccid Washington press corps in his PBS special last night, that fawning Administration lapdogs such as Dana Milbank would have seen the light. Try as they might to derail Kucinich's impeachment express, however, Dennis has popular opinion on his side. Impeaching Cheney first is a good idea for two reasons: (1) the obvious reason that if Bush goes first, we don't want Cheney in charge, and (2) the more important reason that if Cheney is fighting impeachment charges, he can't be doing more mischief and committing more high crimes and misdemeanors.

In the field of "progressive" choices for the Democratic nomination, only Kucinich really stands out. The front-runners have vague, sound-bite based websites, with thin platforms, watered down for the general public. I urge everyone to compare the Obama, Clinton and Edwards sites to Kucinich's. The former are filled with PR generated generalities, with no real plan. On Kucinich's site, most of the articles are written by him. (and written rather well, I must say) His platform is broad and detailed, with a focus on true Democracy the way the framers of the constitution intended. This man is thoughtful, passionate and articulate, and just the kind of person that we need in the White house.
Unfortunately, many people, including most liberals, see him as "un-electable" because his platform is SO progressive. If you are a progressive, do yourself a favor and check out his website. What we need is to get a grass roots movement, that will bring him up to the front.

Don't forget about the debate tonight! I bet Kucinich will make the other candidates look silly.

Kucinich '08!!

If you have a Democratic or moderate Republican Congressperson in your district, notify them that you support the Kucinich plan for impeachment of Dick Cheney. If you have a rabid right-winger, it may not be worth the trouble, spend your energy talking to fellow citizens instead.

If you're a "pragmatist" who believes this "can't be done", please just get out of the way until we get this bandwagon rolling and you can jump on later.

Will Cheney and his corporatist masters pull out all stops to prevent this? Probably. They've already shown that they have no reservations at all about killing anyone who might stand in the way of their vision of how the world ought to be. A vision I personally oppose (how about you?).

So the question we all face is, do we go along to get along and live a life of acceptance of their agenda, or work to create something better. Cheney and Bush and their masters are the greatest impediment to progress that we face in this country. Removing their hands from the levers of power is our first priority. Failing to even make an effort to do so is to fail as an "American". We have the constitutional method, and the imperative, for their removal, we should not hesitate to do so simply because there is some work involved. It would be far worse if we didn't have a constitution to support this and had to resort to violent revolution to correct the problem.

To those sincere patriots who know the value of this impeachment effort, take heart, our numbers continue to grow. Keep working and talking.

To those who want to sit on the sidelines making snide remarks as prelude to their anticipated moment of "I told you so", or who are waiting for an appropriately safe moment to join the movement, please just don't be an impediment. Take the time you would spend on those snide remarks to look inside and examine just what it is you really want to see happen. Then give some thought to actually working for it.

Having watched the video on the Washington Post site this morning of the Kucinich press conference, I was outraged. I've never thought Kucinich was a viable presidential candidate, never voted for him, but that's why he's perfect for this role. He's exactly right—politically, constitutionally, morally, etc.—and the Post reporter (and the Cleveland Plain Dealer's too) disgraces himself by blowing off a distinguished US Representative's attempts to put an end to this disgraceful regime. This wasn't journalism so much as it was a roast. They ought to return a few of those Watergate Pulitzer's.

There could be no finer representative of the people as President than Dennis Kucinich, imho. He has the courage to stand and speak truth to power, the courage to respond to the wishes of his constituents as well as the rest of the people of this country, the wisdom to wish to restore our rights as given to us by the Constitution and to preserve that Constitution, he has never voted for the war in Iraq, he is an honest man. Just that last should be enough to get him elected, if the world were sane. He is also a compassionate person who is humble. Know many politicians like this?
YES, Mr. Kucinich! Go after Cheney and I pray you survive this effort and then become our next President.

I fear for Dennis' life. I wonder if he knows he's setting himself up to be a martyr. The rotten class elitists Perfect Clue refers to are talking about it now. Surround Dennis with LOL (Lots of Love). The demons gather but love is the more powerful force. A new Nuremberg Tribunal is needed for the new nazis and their class-mates. Ruppert was right. Cheney directed the whole 911 shell game. If Dennis backs the stockholder class rats into a corner, he's going to need more than big cojones to survive. If we've got any money in banks, we're implicated in high crimes and treason against Love. The Lover Government trumps these patriotic, patriarchic, idiotic pricks with the power of Love.

Kucinich is my boy. He is a courageous man. I supported him even when it was obviously hopeless. To be honest, if he did ever get to be president, I am sure he would be frozen out just like Carter was.

The criminals on both sides of the good cop / bad cop aisle (rep/dem) would see to it that he was embarrassed at every turn, and that he got no cooperation from anyone, ever. If Kucinich did like Carter did, and appointed a trusted friend to head up the CIA, you would just see the same thing happen - the CIA would go private (Oh, wait.... they've gone private and criminal with the GID, Mossad, ISI, and MI6 decades ago) and work to sabotage the president through some more illegal overseas election tampering (see paris peace talks a la Nixon/Kissinger, or iran hostage crisis a la Reagan/Bush).

One thing is for sure. These bastards are dangerous, but probably more dangerous when their backs are against the wall. Cheney has been pretty consistent about threatening the US with more acts of terror should a progressive ever take the presidency. Of course he has always been able to say he was just warning us of what Al CIAda would do.

How many of us would openly testify against a mafia don? What if they threatened your kids? Your wife? Your dog? What if they had the ability to completely trash your reputation with accusations of the sort that stick to the front page, even after the apologies make the back page.

The evidence against this administration is beyond the pale. The problem we see is not a lack of evidence, but a lack of testicular fortitude on the part of prosecutors, witnesses (some of them), congress, and the senate.

It took Kerry over ten years to get the biggest drug money laundering, terrorist financing, treasury looting bank ever discovered openly prosecuted in court. That bank was run (the U.S. branch) by Clark Clifford - the very man who AUTHORED the national security act which created the NSA and CIA. The bank had names like Hussein, Bin Ladin, Noriega, Medellin, Escobar, and of course Bush, associated with it (to name but a few). This bank, BCCI, was a creation of the Pakistani ISI, and the CIA, and was used to arm terrorists, and launder opium and cocaine money from at least two continents. This bank is connected directly to transactions between G.W.B. and members of the Bin Ladin family.

Kucinich is right. Bush is the little dummy on the lap of the ventriloquist, namely Cheney. Get Cheney out now, I say. I also pray for Kucinich's life. What I wouldn't give to see Kucinich and Nader on the same ticket, with a democratic primary victory. My only fear is that Al CIAda may not like seeing their buddies get the boot, and we should be prepared for that in any event.

The emptier the barrel, the louder the noise...Filing impeachment papers against Cheney is just a nuisance activity with no chance of success or efficacy. All we have here is a lot of empty rhetoric. Nothing will come of it.

These traitors are without doubt the most horrible to infiltrate our country. But this 'train' involves a lot of other cars, all of which are corrupt. Thay have been on the fast track of destruction since Bush's father's crooked cronies in the U.S.SUPREME??? COURT in the 2000 'selection' blocked Al Gore from becoming president then proceeded riding the Fascist Line to imminent destruction. And then facts evolve proving once again that you cannot live a lie and crime does not pay. But, sadly, everyone else is paying for their mistakes. Cheney is apt to pull another 911 attack; he is such a bull head; he refuses to be defeated.

And speaking of the W. Post, note that when Sen. Reid said the war is "lost" if we keep letting Bush run it his way, David Broder responded by saying the Democrats should take away Reid's leadership post. Broder and people like him actually think if anyone dares to turn away from D.C. dumbspeak that person must be cast out.

I have contacted my congress people urging them to support Kucinich's resolution.

I have been skeptical of Kucinich's chances as a presidential candidate, but as time has passed, I see him as the best candidate. He's got his record to run on. He has been opposed to Bush's War from the beginning. Vocally and loudly against it. He wins points for his perception and his perseverance. His tactic of impeaching Cheney first shows strategic planning. No one wants Cheney to succeed to the presidency. Well, Dennis is making sure to remove him first.

Kucinich 2008!
