Truthout interviewed 1st Lt. Ehren Watada to find out why he's chosen to be "the only known U.S. military officer to publicly refuse to be sent to Iraq." Video right...

Like the former football hero Pat Tillman, killed by "friendly fire" in a murky military cover-up, Watada believes the war is illegal and that "he is duty-bound as an officer under international and military conventions to refuse unlawful orders."

Tillman was a bit more colorful, saying: "You know, this war is so fucking illegal," according to his buddy Spc. Russell Baer.

Watada's court-martial begins today and he faces up to 4 years in prison and an Army dismissal. Things don't look too good for him as the Judge has already stated that he can't question the legality of the war...

Truthout also interviewed Watada's attorney Eric Seitz which you can watch HERE.
