Unveiling his iPhone gewgaw with a prank call to Starbuck's (so cute Steve!), Apple manages to avoid going green. Again.
Note to self: don't get too sanctimonious when you're writing this on an Apple laptop.
Apple isn't the world's worst company -- not by a long shot -- but Greenpeace, which produced the satirical video here, has been detailing the terrible costs of Apple products to the environment and to the manufacturers of its parts:
We love Apple. Apple knows more about "clean" design than anybody, right? So why do Macs, iPods, iBooks and the rest of their product range contain hazardous substances that other companies have abandoned? A cutting edge company shouldn't be cutting lives short by exposing children in China and India to dangerous chemicals. That's why we Apple fans need to demand a new, cool product: a greener Apple. It comes down to this: Few companies have the indie/design cred that Apple does. They don't deserve it until they make some changes. And I'm not talking about a bold departure from the black/white ghetto their laptops are stuck in...
