How extreme were conservative commentators in their remarks this year? How about calls to nuke the Middle East and an allegation that a "gay … mafia" used the congressional page program as its own "personal preserve." Right-wing rhetoric documented by Media Matters for America included the nonsensical (including Rush Limbaugh's claim that America's "obesity crisis" is caused by, among other things, our failure to "teach [the poor] how to butcher a -- slaughter a cow to get the butter, we gave them the butter"), the offensive (such as right-wing pundit Debbie Schlussel's question about "Barack Hussein Obama": Is he "a man we want as president when we are fighting the war of our lives against Islam? Where will his loyalties be?"), and the simply bizarre (such as William A. Donohue's claim that some Hollywood stars would "sodomize their own mother in a movie"). Since there were so many outrageous statements, we included a list of honorable mentions along with the top 11, which, if not for Ann Coulter, we might have limited to 10.

The top 11 (in chronological order):

William A. Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights: "Well, look, there are people in Hollywood, not all of them, but there are some people who are nothing more than harlots. They will do anything for the buck. They wouldn't care. If you asked them to sodomize their own mother in a movie, they would do so, and they would do it with a smile on their face." [2/9/06]

Fox News host John Gibson: "Do your duty. Make more babies. That's a lesson drawn out of two interesting stories over the last couple of days. First, a story yesterday that half of the kids in this country under five years old are minorities. By far, the greatest number are Hispanic. You know what that means? Twenty-five years and the majority of the population is Hispanic. Why is that? Well, Hispanics are having more kids than others. Notably, the ones Hispanics call 'gabachos' -- white people -- are having fewer." [5/11/06]

Right-wing pundit Ann Coulter on the New York Times' decision to report on the Bush administration's warrantless domestic wiretapping program and a Treasury Department financial transaction tracking program: The Times had done "something that could have gotten them executed, certainly did get the Rosenbergs (Julius and Ethel) executed." [7/12/06]

Coulter responding to Hardball host Chris Matthews' question, "How do you know that [former President] Bill Clinton's gay?": "I don't know if he's gay. But [former Vice President] Al Gore -- total fag." [7/27/06]

Nationally syndicated radio host Michael Savage: "That's why the department store dummy named Wolf Blitzer, a Jew who was born in Israel, will do the astonishing act of being the type that would stick Jewish children into a gas chamber to stay alive another day. He's probably the most despicable man in the media next to Larry King, who takes a close runner-up by the hair of a nose. The two of them together look like the type that would have pushed Jewish children into the oven to stay alive one more day to entertain the Nazis." [8/7/06]

Coulter on Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., an African-American: "Congresswoman Maxine Waters had parachuted into Connecticut earlier in the week to campaign against [Sen. Joseph I.] Lieberman because he once expressed reservations about affirmative action, without which she would not have a job that didn't involve wearing a paper hat. Waters also considers Joe 'soft' on the issue of the CIA inventing crack cocaine and AIDS to kill all the black people in America." [8/9/06]

Nationally syndicated radio host Rush Limbaugh, blaming America's "obesity crisis" on "the left," "liberal government," and "food stamps": "Because we are sympathetic, we are compassionate people, we have responded by letting our government literally feed these people to the point of obesity. At least here in America, didn't teach them how to fish, we gave them the fish. Didn't teach them how to butcher a -- slaughter a cow to get the butter, we gave them the butter. The real bloat here, as we know, is in -- is in government." [8/29/06]

Coulter on Sen. Lincoln Chafee, R-R.I.: "They Shot the Wrong Lincoln." [8/30/06]

Conservative pundit and former Republican presidential candidate Pat Buchanan: "Look, [Rep. Jim] Kolbe [R-Ariz.] is gay. He is an out-of-the-closet gay. [Rep. Mark] Foley [R-Fla.] was gay. The House clerk who was in charge of the pages [Jeff Trandahl] was gay. Foley's administrative assistant, Mr. [Kirk] Fordham, the New York Times tells us, was gay. You hear about a lot of others. What's going on here, Joe [Scarborough, MSNBC host], is basically these, this little mafia in there looked upon the pages, I guess, as their -- sort of their personal preserve. And it stinks to high heaven what was done. And it stinks to high heaven that it was not exposed and these types of people, thrown out by the Republican Party." [10/9/06]

CNN Headline News host Glenn Beck to Rep.-elect Keith Ellison, D-Minn.: "OK. No offense, and I know Muslims. I like Muslims. … With that being said, you are a Democrat. You are saying, 'Let's cut and run.' And I have to tell you, I have been nervous about this interview with you, because what I feel like saying is, 'Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies.' " [11/14/06]

Right-wing pundit Debbie Schlussel on Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.: So, even if he identifies strongly as a Christian … is a man who Muslims think is a Muslim, who feels some sort of psychological need to prove himself to his absent Muslim father, and who is now moving in the direction of his father's heritage, a man we want as president when we are fighting the war of our lives against Islam? Where will his loyalties be?" [12/18/06]

Honorable mentions (also in chronological order):

Beck: "Cindy Sheehan. That's a pretty big prostitute there, you know what I mean?" [1/10/06]

Republican strategist Mary Matalin: "I mean, you know, I think these civil rights leaders are nothing more than racists. And they're keeping constituency, they're keeping their neighborhoods and their African-American brothers enslaved, if you will, by continuing to let them think that they're -- or forced to think that they're victims, that the whole system is against them." [2/8/06]

Pat Robertson, host of the Christian Broadcasting Network's The 700 Club: "But it does seem that with the current makeup of the court, they still don't have as many judges as would be needed to overturn Roe [v. Wade]. They need one more, and I dare say before the end of this year there will be another vacancy on the court." [3/7/06]

Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and host of the daily Christian radio show The Albert Mohler Program: "Well, I would have to say as a Christian that I believe any belief system, any world view, whether it's Zen Buddhism or Hinduism or dialectical materialism for that matter, Marxism, that keeps persons captive and keeps them from coming to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, yes, is a demonstration of satanic power." [3/17/06]

Nationally syndicated radio host Neal Boortz on Rep. Cynthia McKinney's (D-Ga.) hairstyle: "She looks like a ghetto slut. … It looks like an explosion in a Brillo pad factory. … She looks like Tina Turner peeing on an electric fence. … She looks like a shih tzu!" [3/31/06]

Boortz on McKinney's hairstyle (again): "I saw Cynthia McKinney's hairdo yesterday -- saw it on TV. I don't blame that cop for stopping her. It looked like a welfare drag queen was trying to sneak into the Longworth House Office Building. That hairdo is ghetto trash. I don't blame them for stopping her." [3/31/06]

Limbaugh discussing a videotape released by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the then-leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq: "[I]t sounds just like the DNC (Democratic National Committee) is writing his scripts now." [4/26/06]

Beck: "Blowing up Iran. I say we nuke the bastards. In fact, it doesn't have to be Iran, it can be everywhere, anyplace that disagrees with me." [5/11/06]

Jonathan Hoenig, managing member of Capitalistpig Asset Management LLC, on Fox News' Your World with Neil Cavuto: "I think when it comes to Iran, the problem is we haven't been forceful enough. I mean if you -- frankly, if you want to see the Dow go up, let's get the bombers in the air and neutralize this Iranian threat." [6/5/06]

Fox host Geraldo Rivera: "I've known [Sen.] John Kerry [D-Mass.] for over 35 years. Unlike me, he is a combat veteran, so he gets some props. But in the last 35 years, I've seen a hell of a lot more combat than John Kerry. And for a smart man like that in a political ploy to set a date certain only aids and abets the enemy, and the Democrats are at their own self-destructive behavior once again." [6/22/06]

Savage: "I don't know why we don't use a bunker-buster bomb when he comes to the U.N. and just take [Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad] out with everyone in there." [7/21/06]

Boortz: "I want you to think for a moment of how incompetent and stupid and worthless, how -- that's right, I used those words -- how incompetent, how ignorant, how worthless is an adult that can't earn more than the minimum wage? You have to really, really, really be a pretty pathetic human being to not be able to earn more than the human wage. Uh -- human, the minimum wage." [8/3/06]

Syndicated columnist and Fox News host Cal Thomas on businessman Ned Lamont's victory in Connecticut's Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate: "It completes the capture of the Democratic Party by its Taliban wing. … [T]hey have now morphed into Taliban Democrats because they are willing to 'kill' one of their own, if he does not conform to the narrow and rigid agenda of the party's kook fringe." [8/10/06]

Fox News host Sean Hannity, two months before the November midterm elections: "This is the moment to say that there are things in life worth fighting and dying for and one of 'em is making sure [Rep.] Nancy Pelosi [D-Calif.] doesn't become the [House] speaker." [8/29/06]

Beck: "The Middle East is being overrun by 10th-century barbarians. That's what I thought at 5 o'clock this morning, and I thought, 'Oh, geez, what -- what is this?' If they take over -- the barbarians storm the gate and take over the Middle East (this is what I'm thinking at 5 o'clock in the morning) -- we're going to have to nuke the whole place." [9/12/06]

Savage: "My fear is that if the Democrats win [in the November midterm elections], and I'm afraid that they might, you're going to see America melt down faster that you could ever imagine. It will happen overnight, and it could lead to the breakup of the United States of America, the way the Soviet Union broke up." [10/13/06]

Republican pollster Frank Luntz on Nancy Pelosi's appearance: "I always use the line for Nancy Pelosi, 'You get one shot at a facelift. If it doesn't work the first time, let it go.' " [10/31/06]

Limbaugh on the Middle East: "Fine, just blow the place up." [11/27/06]

Fox News host Bill O'Reilly (on his radio show): "Do I care if the Sunnis and Shiites kill each other in Iraq? No. I don't care. Let's get our people out of there. Let them kill each other. Maybe they'll all kill each other, and then we can have a decent country in Iraq." [12/5/06]

New York Post columnist Ralph Peters on Iraq Study Group co-chairman James Baker: "The difference is that [Pontius] Pilate just wanted to wash his hands of an annoyance, while Baker would wash his hands in the blood of our troops." [12/7/06]

Conservative syndicated radio host Michael Medved on the animated movie "Happy Feet": The film contains "a whole subtext, as there so often is, about homosexuality." [12/11/06]

Fox captions

Additionally, although these are not examples of specific conservative commentators making outrageous comments, we would be remiss if we did not mention that Fox News made a regular practice of attacking Democrats or repeating Republican talking points in on-screen text during its coverage of political issues. Some examples:

"All-Out Civil War in Iraq: Could It Be a Good Thing?" [2/23/06]

"Attacking Capitalism: Have Dems Declared War on America?" [2/18/06]

"Dems Helping the Enemy?" [5/22/06]

"A Lamont Win, Bad News for Democracy in Mideast?"

"Have the Democrats Forgotten the Lessons of 9/11?"

"Is the Democratic Party Soft on Terror?" [8/8/06]

"The #1 President on Mideast Matters: George W Bush?" [8/14/06]

"Is the Liberal Media Helping to Fuel Terror?" [8/16/06]

It is a messure of the negative value of America's rich ruling class that they give these nutcases responsible media jobs. The major media's sole purpose is to make Americans so brainwashed that they will obey the stupid rich, buy their stupid products and kill for stupid Bush.

Rush Limbaugh is blaming the left, the government, and food stamps for making him a fat slob?

If only we had taught him the fine art of slaughtering and butchering a cow, so he wouldn't have to eat them whole and alive.

Fox News's Gibson is a damned fool. What about "reconquista" Mexicans?
Posted by: Pat Kittle on Dec 28, 2006 3:35 AM
Current rating: Not yet rated    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
In this catastrophically overpopulated world, it certainly is "most outrageous" for anyone to call for a baby-making race!

-----Repeating Fox News host John Gibson:
"Do your duty. Make more babies... Twenty-five years and the majority of the population is Hispanic. Why is that? Well, Hispanics are having more kids than others. Notably, the ones Hispanics call 'gabachos' -- white people -- are having fewer." [5/11/06]

Well, as the old saying has it, "Just because you're paranoid it doesn't mean they aren't out to get you."

Most (not "all") Mexicans believe they will "take over" (at least the southwest part of) the US by outbreeding the (their everyday racist slur) "gringos."
-----As Professor Jose Angel Gutierrez (U. of Texas) puts it:
"We have an aging white America. They are not making babies. They are dying. The explosion is in our population... I love it. They are shitting in their pants with fear. I love it.", "We have got to eliminate the gringo, and what I mean by that is if the worst comes to the worst, we have got to kill him."
-----And Augustin Cebeda (Brown Berets) brags:
"Go back to Boston! Go back to Plymouth Rock, Pilgrims! Get out! We are the future. You are old and tired. Go on. We have beaten you. Leave like beaten rats. You old white people. It is your duty to die. .. Through love of having children, we are going to take over."

We know this is the barely-hidden agenda of Mexican "reconquistas." However, as they become more media-savvy, they pretend quotes like these are merely quaint rhetoric left over from the '60's, long forgotten and no longer relevant.

They're lying. They are unfortunately lying.

And it's time we stopped enabling this stupidity, and treat it with the same contempt we reserve for John Gibson.

Demographic warfare by anyone in this day and age is truly a war crime -- and even worse, it's ecocide.

Don't forget the Faux News caption that identified Mark Foley as a Democrat for two complete news cycles !!! They knew better...just another example of serving up more neocon Kool-Aid.

Thanks to Keith Olbermann for pointing out this one. ( Whoever it is on his staff they pay to monitor Faux News deserves "hazardous duty pay". )

And as crazy as these "pundits" sound, they are dangerous indeed. Think of the millions of sheeple who actually listen to them (like the first commenter). It says a lot about the lack of education in this country when complete and utter idiots such as Coultergeist and Beck even have a following. They are out to make a buck and sell books slinging hate, period. They know that fearful, ignorant people lap it up like nobody's business. Fearful, ignorant people love to hate everything they don't understand. Whether it's foreigners, gays, etc. They are intellectually lazy and actual independent thought scares them. People like Limbaugh and Coultergeist know this. While their rhetoric is idiotic, they are smart enough to know how to use it to make themselves rich and famous. Their listeners, in turn, stay paranoid, bitter and angry at the world, instead of questioning these hacks and figuring things out for themselves. Sad state of affairs that these gasbags swarm the airwaves at all.

I find the article to be just a waste of valuable space. It would take me about one minute to come up with wacky statements by people such as Nancy Pelosi or Martin Sean (sic) or any number of left leaning popular people. That doesn't mean that they would speak for all left leaning people just as those mentioned in the article do not speak for all right leaninig individuals. The fact that Alter Net is playing along with the devisive game of liberal or conservative, is showing that it is also a prejudicial web site. I am now forced to find a better source.

Well, I do kind of agree with what Donahue had to say.

Most people in Hollywood would do anything to make a buck, but I'm not sure they would go as far as to sodomize their own mothers on TV.

Then again, I wouldn't put it past them.

we have gone from Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite to what now passes for "journalism" in American media.

As a kid growing up during the Cold War, I remember being bombarded by all the flack about how terrible the media was in Communist countries, about how it was a tool of the Commie dictators and government to keep the people brainwashed. Well---Pravada has come to the land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

These right-wing blowhards keep yakking about the "decline of America". They better stop blaming it on gays "liberals" "athiests" etc., and take a good hard look at themselves.

These people would have done Joseph Goebbels proud!

Right-wing confusion about Iraq
Posted by: karma_ran_over_dogma on Dec 28, 2006 7:15 AM
Current rating: Not yet rated    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Take all the quotes that refer to Iraq or Muslims, and there's sure a lot of confusion about who "the enemy" is supposed to be. If the enemy is Muslims in general, or even Iraqis in general, why has Bush put so much effort (in effect) into setting up a Shi'ite theocracy in Iraq allied with Iran?

And hey Bill O'Reilly: "Do I care if the Sunnis and Shiites kill each other in Iraq? No. I don't care. Let's get our people out of there...." Sounds like Cut and Run!

I have to express my gratitude to MM for the compiled comments. I laughed so hard at some of them that I had tears runnig down my cheeks. Goes to show that the truth can be really funny. I especially liked the comments by Neil Boortz on Cynthia McKinney. She does look like a ghetto slut. I'm still laughing at that one. You lefties really should consider that these commentaries on lefty politicians, politics and political positions are true. You'll really get a good laugh out of it. Then again you have no sense of humor. That's why you're leftists.

If Alternet is going to be fair and balanced, how about some left-wing comments that are just absurd. Example: Randi Rhodes skit about putting a bullet in the head of a sitting president. Kanye West, "Bush doesn't like black people".
Sen. Durbin calling our troops Nazi's, Pol Pot and similiar to Gulags. Kerry's botched joke, was not botched. Anything out of Cynthia Mckinney's mouth. I could go on and on.

Ever notice how the little "c" with the BIG "C" ego, drops in and stirs things up a bit? I'm sure she sits back with glee watching what she has put in motion.

She said once that "this" (meaning AlterNet I suppose) is "her" blog.

Both actions are typical GOP behavior. State an outrageous contradiction about a liberal comment or stance, make wild and scandelous accusations about a Democrat, then sit back and enjoy the show.

I used to get so angry, then I realized who she really is and how this is nothing more than a power-trip for her. Sparring with her is fun. Bitter old hags aren't long in the sense-of-humor department.

"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction. ...without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation. And now he has continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real ... " “I will be voting to give the president of the United States the authority to use force - if necessary - to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security." SENATOR JOHN F KERRY (D, MA), in 2003

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction."SENATOR TED KENNEDY (D, MA), in 2002

"As a member of the House Intelligence Committee, I am keenly aware that the proliferation of chemical and biological weapons is an issue of grave importance to all nations. Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process." – NANCY PELOSI, in 1998

"Iraq does pose a serious threat to the stability of the Persian Gulf and we should organize an international coalition to eliminate his access to weapons of mass destruction. Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to completely deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power." – AL GORE, in 2002

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members .. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons." - Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), in 2002

"Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face." - Madeline Albright, in 1998

"Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies." - Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, in 1999

"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983." - Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, in 1998

"The community of nations may see more and more of the very kind of threat Iraq poses now: a rogue state with weapons of mass destruction, ready to use them or provide them to terrorists. If we fail to respond today, Saddam and all those who would follow in his footsteps will be emboldened tomorrow." – BILL CLINTON, in 1998

So much for the loon left's bogus BUSH LIED crap.

You could start with "I didn't inhale" & "I never had sex with that woman".

The horse pucky flows from the "progressives" just as freely. You gonna quote them also? Didn't think so. How about a story on who gave the US the UN-Constitutional "Federal" Reserve, the illegal IRS & the printing of US currancy to private bankers in direct violation of the Constitution? Sounds to me that the article is designed to feed the supporters of the left, Libs & Dems justification for thier equally whacked out views. We need to face the fact that the Dems & Repubs have the same agenda-to betray the US into the One World Gov. camp.

If the US does not get off the R & D merry go round this nation is doomed to repeat all the R & D nonsense...and we will never have an honest Constitutional Gov.

Ann C was taken a bit out of context. I saw her smiling when she made some of the quoted comments.

Speaking of trollish attempts at distraction from the real issues - that's the name of the game for the right-wing pundits - they make outrageous Nazi-style statements designed to draw attention to themselves and away from the real criminals - the corporatocracy, which consists of three pillars: corrupt governments, the large corporations, and the international banks.

Focusing on what some loud-mouthed idiot like Ann Colter has to say is a waste of time. Instead, take a look at who owns the media outlets where she is allowed to spew forth, and look at the corporate, government and financial interests involved: Big Oil, Big Pharma, Pentagon & Israeli weapons corporations , the US Treasury-IMF-World Bank-Export/Import Bank system, the US-British-Bechtel-Halliburton-BCCI-Saudi petrodollar recycling schemes, and so on. Their main goal is to control global oil resources and global markets of all kinds, whether it's pharmaceuticals or telecommunications.

The right-wing game is to distract attention from the corporate theft and destruction being carried out for the benefit of Bush's uber-rich 'base'. If this article is any indication, it looks like the strategy is working. Like an above commentator said about trolls, don't bother engaging them - it's just a waste of time. They're just puppets - focus on the puppeteers, not the puppets.

Easily the most outrageous right wing conduct has been their violation of our Constitutional Rights.
They violate the 1st Amendment by caging demonstrators and banning books like "America Deceived" from Amazon. America Deceived (book)
They violate the 2nd Amendment by confiscating guns during Katrina.
They violate the 4th Amendment by conducting warrant-less wiretaps.
They violate the 5th and 6th Amendment by suspending habeas corpus.
They violate the 8th Amendment by torturing.
They violate the entire Constitution by starting 2 illegal wars based on lies and on behalf of a foriegn gov't.
Their conduct has been FAR MORE detrimental to this country than their words.

We in Australia have our share of liars and political tarts in the media as well.
In the national Australian Broadcasting Corporation which is owned by the national government we have a culture of what you in America would call lefties and liberals manning the microphones.

We tend to get the rabid right wingers in the commercial radio sphere. We do not get the same sewage on TV as you do in America because owners are terrified of alienating the customers of their advertisers. Your market so large that it is understood that even if some are turned off there are still enough sheeple to consume the rubbish of their advertisers.

Here the two highest paid whores in the country are John Laws and Alan Jones who have been caught time and time again attacking some corporation only to change their tunes when the said corporation begins to pay them large sums of money. They are allowed to get away with this because of a weak regulatory system administered by spineless confederates and admirers. One of the regulators, Professor Flint, has been found to be writing what can only be described a love letters to Jones.

All of this seems to be the price that ordinary decent people pay for allowing the majority the greatest degree of freedom.

One of the function of government should be to control the excesses. The problem is that government itself has become part of the problem by identifying itself with the powerful and monied who generally got to be so by fraud, lying and theft.

This country has had it's bad times to say the least. There have always been radicals, ignorant people making ignorant statements.

But, after listening to these right wing jackasses over the last 7-8 years and reading here about what they've said, I can imagine what it must have been like in Nazi Germany, listening to Hitler's propaganda, and the brainwashing that was going on. The things Hitler used to say and what these radical nut jobs say now is frighteningly similar.

Well it could be that even Satan got sick of listening to their crap and regurgitated them back to earth.... thanks a lot, can you take them back now? We’ve suffered enough!

When it comes to politics, it is a waste of time to argue endlessly about so-called objective truth, it is not findable anyway. The bottom line however, do you like the direction the country is going in or not? As for Iraq, of which even if other presidents believed it had WMD's, it was Bush II who actually choose to invade the place. So, how do you solve this Iraq problem, and right-wing flip-flopping won't solve it either. The Lefties say get all the troops out now, Bush II is quite possibly going to add 30,000 more troops pretty soon. Will this work? You can criticize Lefties all you want, but Iraq is part of the "package deal" for you Righties, it was a 100% FOX endorsed, right-wing approved adventure from the beginning. And no righties, you cannot distance yourself from it, just trying to choose the right wing schemes that seemingly worked out. This is a problem you have to face.

These modern day Goebbels are among the most despicable forms of life on the planet today.

The viewers of these programs, who can't see them for the neo-fascists they are, must agree with them to an extent that they too are fascistic.

These are very dangerous trends. Fascism grows steadily to the kind of reckoning that Germany felt in 1944. These hateful war mongering racist scum need to be challenged, removed from their programs, complained over, whatever it takes. America is being led down the path of Franco, Mussolini, Hitler, Pinochet, etc. And they are doing it in broad daylight.

That is what fascism looks like. See it on FoxNews (sic) any day of the year. Talk about it. Inform people. They need to know.

Newt Gingrich on the founding of the United States and the founding fathers recognition of god commentary with Fox News took the cake for me though.

Ford dieing and rehashing all his godly quotes really made me puke. It's no wonder that most media has kept his position on the Warren Commission as low profile as possible.

If Carter bombed Iran to oblivion then we would have a bunch of patriotic democrats running around and Reagan would of wound up in an old folks home retiring to obscurity.

I always suspected the then CIA director George Herbert Walker Bush gave Iran a heads up to ruin the hostage rescue in Iran.

Oh well, Happy New Year to all.

All these right-wing pundits spewing their venom is just like little kids taunting each other.

These people are nothing more than attention whores and they have nothing constructive to add to political discourse, which is why they fall back on what they now best - acting like nasty little brats. Too bad it's against the law that we can't take them over our collective knees and give them a good spanking. Then again, from their behaviour, it's more than clear their parents failed to discipline them properly.

However, the American public is also to blame. Way too many people tune into these clods - either to mindlessly agree with every bit of vitriol that spews from their mouths, no matter how untrue, rude or insensitive - others will to try to talk some sense into them. And because this kind of nonsense makes money for the Rupert Mur-ducks of the world, they have a convenient platform.

Me, I'd rather just listen to my music. These idiots aren't worth raising my blood pressure over.

this event is going to impact american security more than anything done since the beginning of the invasion, and alternet has nothing. what is going on?
are you not concerned that this execution will create another organized mid east group (baath party) that will be looking to hit the US?
and why is ther no concern or interest that sadam is being killed in the middle of a trail? a rail for tyhe gassing of the kurds in which he could shed light on US involvement in that act (that's the real rush to off him)?
the site is covered in fluff at a crucial time in US security and i'm baffled at how this could be.
as i said, this will have a permanent impact on us security and nada on this site...

the ba'ath party has released a statemnet saying US and americans worlwide will be targetted for the hanging of sadam, and now you have al queda and ba'ath party who despise each other working for a similar goal. there is a saying in the arab world that the enemy of your enemy is your friend. this is not going to bode well...

Did this guy just come out of "Borat"? As your archetypal lefty lib, I've gotta admit to having some fun with this one. To wit: The electric fence on which Tina is peeing is the one surrounding George Bush's Crawford ranch. Her peeing on the fence shorts it out, which in turn causes a major power outtage at the old ranch house where our Dear Leader is in the midst of, shall we say, another bourbon and branchwater excursion.... WHO TURNED OUT THE F.ING LIGHTS??!!

I'm real disappointed not to see JFK Light on this list. American troops are too dumb to do anything but join the military? Me thinks he accidentally said what he really meant. At least Dr. Freud would agree. In any case, he deserves a gold plated foot-in-mouth award, especially in view of his now invisible presidential prospects. Not to worry, John. Now you can get in some serious duck hunting.

And I'm not being sarcastic. Its good to see someone on here who actually has something to say that people disagree with. I'm tired of the "Bush and Co. are Nazis/idiots/stupid/insane/evil" posts which unfortunately take up 90% of the afterarticle forums. I'm also tired of the dumber conservatives who stumble onto our little website, become outraged, leave a rant post, and never respond again. So I'm glad your here to consistantly offer a differing perspective. Besides, I'm not a typical leftist, and I sometimes even agree with you, so its good to have an ally.

Cheers!

Not even a mention for Limbaugh's hair-raising slander of Michael J Fox? Very rarely has one been caught on camera and before a microphone performing such a gut-wrenchingly despicable act. I believe it won Missouri for the Democrats.

My favorites that didn’t make the list:

Pat Robertson……I can’t even remember all the stupid things he has said over the past 12 mons…..Praying that another Supreme Court Justice dies

Coulter…..911 wives exploiting husbands deaths…were about to be divorced…

That Idiot VA Congressman…….If his immigration policies are not adopted… more Muslims will be elected and want to swear on the Koran.

Senator Allen……The Whole campaign…..My mom didn’t tell me she was a Jew because she thought I’d love her less…..(I’m not a racist, Yeah Right)….That black family liked deer heads, that’s why I put it in the mailbox.

Senator Santorum……We’ve found the WMD…..(albeit over 10 yrs old and degraded). Going into Iraq was justified.

Steele (rep candidate for MD senate)…Stem cell research is murder….(Answering follow-up question….What about clinics destroying eggs?)….I think we should look into having the cells adopted……(yeah, more over ice trays…I’m adopting a Petrie Dish).

Rush…Verdict Not-Guilty…..(Meaning that if he went to treatment….on probation…and didn’t test positive for a certain amount of time….his CONVICTION would be expunged).

Wingnutz....the gift that keeps on giving....Happy New Year

The recent death of actor Peter Boyle brought back memories of a movie he starred in called "Joe". It was his first major role and it was released in 1970. Rent it or check it out--it is available on DVD I believe. It illustrates perfectly the type of people who listen to this crap on the airwaves, and some of the possible consequences.

Limbaugh's comments on food stamps is classic rightwing stupidity:

Didn't teach them how to butcher a -- slaughter a cow to get the butter, we gave them the butter.

I'm no farmer, but I'm pretty confident that one need not slaughter a cow to make butter.

I just found that kinda funny ...

SNAKE OIL MSM SHOW

I posted some of this elsewhere on Alternet but I’d say it merits a reprise here.

A shrill “rightwing” media fraud and its counterpart “leftwing” gatekeeper machine are both meant to mislead the public. The “rightwing” end of the MSM is far more obvious a dirty counterfeit but this seems intentional.

Strategic divide and conquer tactics by way of baiting, false-flag operations and any number of red herring distractions are among the oldest ploys of any ruling class from the invention of the wheel.

And I don’t mean the ruling class of a skin-deep Washington & MSM runway show.

CIA OPERATION MOCKINGBIRD is no pet theory or side issue. Op Mockingbird “IS a Central Intelligence Agency operation to influence domestic and foreign media, whose activities were made public during the Church Committee investigation in 1975 (published 1976)”.

As of 1977 – according to Carl Bernstein – over 400 “reporters” worked as CIA sellouts for Operation Mockingbird. These included Pulitzer Prize winners along with the most influential media hacks down to stringers and freelances. Just a few of the more illustrious stooges from those years:

* CBS (William S. Paley)
* Chattanooga Times (Charles Bartlett)
* Christian Science Monitor (Joseph Harrison)
* Copley News Services (James Copley)
* Louisville Courier-Journal (Barry Bingham, Sr.)
* The Miami News (William C. Baggs, Herb Gold, Hal Hendrix)
* Newsweek (Ben Bradlee)
* New York Herald Tribune (Stewart Alsop)
* New York Times (Arthur Hays Sulzberger)
* Time Magazine (Alfred Friendly, Charles Douglas Jackson, Henry Luce)
* Washington Post (Walter Pincus)
* Washington Star (Jerry O'Leary)

Gee, kind of makes you re-think that MSM mono-voice on 911 cover-up and its one stop cheerleading show for an utterly bogus “war on terror”.

So, both “left” and “right” corners at the MSM debate are bad carny barkers rewarded to keep the natives in fear, asleep or so confused they “hate” (again, the so-called “right” as the more obviously sting). The public is fed just enough dirt on a cooked Washington sham to think the MSM is doing its job. By the way, that’s called LIMITED HANGOUT. And thus we are kept as far away from core issues of command and control by an elite oligarch class as possible.

Cooking and poisoning both “sides” of the well is a very old game and it’s no theory…

It is also just one more instance of known organized government deception on behalf of elites. This doesn’t factor in a likely cesspool of other psyops and propaganda programs built to crush genuine domestic protest a la COINTELPRO and others.

Most of these comments (especially Coulter) are so ridiculous they don't even merit a response. Coulter has to be the only person I know for whom the NYT is NOT RIGHT WING ENOUGH... will she be going after the WSJ next?!

But.. I fail to see the outrage in Pat Buchanan's comment. To me, his comment has the singular distinction on this list of outrageous comment of actually being true. The outrage should be that the Republicans allowed this to happen, not that Pat took them to task on it.

Wow! I've read a lot of garbage on Alternet to date but today's output leaves me stunned. Guess I hadn't realized the country has so many ugly, vicious, miserable, senseless,
uneducated slimeballs. It seems when you scrape away all the b.s. you'll find we're a nation of war mongers. We love war. Only when we're not "winning" we say "enough." We believe we live in a democracy. We think we are the greatest nation on the planet. We're firm believers in "American exceptionalism". I could go on but let me just say that this Bush cabal has taught us that there's a huge difference between the idea and ideals of America and the reality of America. And the Republican slime machine isn't through yet, not by a damn sight. Sadly, given the state of our journalism, there'll be no going back to a much better time.
