CNN exit poll smashes conventional wisdom ...

Yeah, yeah, what else is new?

All of the pre-election polls suggested that the most important issues to voters were Iraq and the economy, with immigration fourth or fifth and terrorism below that.

CNN's exit poll shows the following:

The exit polls showed that 42 percent of voters called corruption an extremely important issue in their choices at the polls, followed by terrorism at 40 percent, the economy at 39 percent and the war in Iraq at 37 percent.
"Is this a one-issue race? It is not," [CNN political analyst Bill] Schneider said.
That's mixed. Despite the fact that recent polls have shown that a majority of voters trust Democrats over the GOP on terrorism, those that cite it as their main concern (after one major attack in 13 years) are more likely to vote Republican.

But the fact that 42% cite corruption as a major concern bodes well for the Dems, suggesting that their "culture of corruption" campaign has paid off.

Reports from the ground are that the turnout in Connecticut was huge. Update: Matt Stoller say 70% -- unheard of in a midterm.

CNN's exit poll also shows the Virginia gay marriage amendment passing, which is not a terribly good sign for Jim webb, but may not be as significant as it was expected to be.
