Does Bush Think War with Iran Is Preordained?

By Chris Hedges, Truthdig. Posted October 10, 2006.

The Christian right sees an apocalyptic nuclear war with Iran as a vision set forth in the Bible. Bush himself may be a believer, too.

The aircraft carrier Eisenhower, accompanied by the guided-missile cruiser USS Anzio, guided-missile destroyer USS Ramage, guided-missile destroyer USS Mason and the fast-attack submarine USS Newport News, is, as I write, making its way to the Straits of Hormuz off Iran. The ships will be in place to strike Iran by the end of the month. It may be a bluff. It may be a feint. It may be a simple show of American power. But I doubt it.

War with Iran -- a war that would unleash an apocalyptic scenario in the Middle East -- is probable by the end of the Bush administration. It could begin in as little as three weeks. This administration, claiming to be anointed by a Christian God to reshape the world, and especially the Middle East, defined three states at the start of its reign as "the Axis of Evil." They were Iraq, now occupied; North Korea, which, because it has nuclear weapons, is untouchable; and Iran. Those who do not take this apocalyptic rhetoric seriously have ignored the twisted pathology of men like Elliott Abrams, who helped orchestrate the disastrous and illegal contra war in Nicaragua, and who now handles the Middle East for the National Security Council. He knew nothing about Central America. He knows nothing about the Middle East. He sees the world through the childish, binary lens of good and evil, us and them, the forces of darkness and the forces of light. And it is this strange, twilight mentality that now grips most of the civilian planners who are barreling us towards a crisis of epic proportions.

These men advocate a doctrine of permanent war, a doctrine which, as William R. Polk points out, is a slight corruption of Leon Trotsky's doctrine of permanent revolution. These two revolutionary doctrines serve the same function, to intimidate and destroy all those classified as foreign opponents, to create permanent instability and fear and to silence domestic critics who challenge leaders in a time of national crisis. It works. The citizens of the United States, slowly being stripped of their civil liberties, are being herded sheep-like, once again, over a cliff.

But this war will be different. It will be catastrophic. It will usher in the apocalyptic nightmares spun out in the dark, fantastic visions of the Christian right. And there are those around the president who see this vision as preordained by God; indeed, the president himself may hold such a vision.

The hypocrisy of this vaunted moral crusade is not lost on those in the Middle East. Iran actually signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. It has violated a codicil of that treaty written by European foreign ministers, but this codicil was never ratified by the Iranian parliament. I do not dispute Iran's intentions to acquire nuclear weapons nor do I minimize the danger should it acquire them in the estimated five to 10 years. But contrast Iran with Pakistan, India and Israel. These three countries refused to sign the treaty and developed nuclear weapons programs in secret. Israel now has an estimated 400 to 600 nuclear weapons. The word "Dimona," the name of the city where the nuclear facilities are located in Israel, is shorthand in the Muslim world for the deadly Israeli threat to Muslims' existence. What lessons did the Iranians learn from our Israeli, Pakistani and Indian allies?

Given that we are actively engaged in an effort to destabilize the Iranian regime by recruiting tribal groups and ethnic minorities inside Iran to rebel, given that we use apocalyptic rhetoric to describe what must be done to the Iranian regime, given that other countries in the Middle East such as Egypt and Saudi Arabia are making noises about developing a nuclear capacity, and given that, with the touch of a button Israel could obliterate Iran, what do we expect from the Iranians? On top of this, the Iranian regime grasps that the doctrine of permanent war entails making "preemptive" and unprovoked strikes.

Those in Washington who advocate this war, knowing as little about the limitations and chaos of war as they do about the Middle East, believe they can hit about 1,000 sites inside Iran to wipe out nuclear production and cripple the 850,000-man Iranian army. The disaster in southern Lebanon, where the Israeli air campaign not only failed to break Hezbollah but united most Lebanese behind the militant group, is dismissed. These ideologues, after all, do not live in a reality-based universe. The massive Israeli bombing of Lebanon failed to pacify 4 million Lebanese. What will happen when we begin to pound a country of 70 million people? As retired General Wesley K. Clark and others have pointed out, once you begin an air campaign it is only a matter of time before you have to put troops on the ground or accept defeat, as the Israelis had to do in Lebanon. And if we begin dropping bunker busters, cruise missiles and iron fragmentation bombs on Iran this is the choice that must be faced -- either sending American forces into Iran to fight a protracted and futile guerrilla war or walking away in humiliation.

"As a people we are enormously forgetful," Dr. Polk, one of the country's leading scholars on the Middle East, told an Oct. 13 gathering of the Foreign Policy Association in New York. "We should have learned from history that foreign powers can't win guerrilla wars. The British learned this from our ancestors in the American Revolution and re-learned it in Ireland. Napoleon learned it in Spain. The Germans learned it in Yugoslavia. We should have learned it in Vietnam and the Russians learned it in Afghanistan and are learning it all over again in Chechnya and we are learning it, of course, in Iraq. Guerrilla wars are almost unwinnable. As a people we are also very vain. Our way of life is the only way. We should have learned that the rich and powerful can't always succeed against the poor and less powerful."

An attack on Iran will ignite the Middle East. The loss of Iranian oil, coupled with Silkworm missile attacks by Iran on oil tankers in the Persian Gulf, could send oil soaring to well over $110 a barrel. The effect on the domestic and world economy will be devastating, very possibly triggering a huge, global depression. The 2 million Shiites in Saudi Arabia, the Shiite majority in Iraq and the Shiite communities in Bahrain, Pakistan and Turkey will turn in rage on us and our dwindling allies. We will see a combination of increased terrorist attacks, including on American soil, and the widespread sabotage of oil production in the Gulf. Iraq, as bad as it looks now, will become a death pit for American troops as Shiites and Sunnis, for the first time, unite against their foreign occupiers.

The country, however, that will pay the biggest price will be Israel. And the sad irony is that those planning this war think of themselves as allies of the Jewish state. A conflagration of this magnitude could see Israel drawn back in Lebanon and sucked into a regional war, one that would over time spell the final chapter in the Zionist experiment in the Middle East. The Israelis aptly call their nuclear program "the Samson option." The Biblical Samson ripped down the pillars of the temple and killed everyone around him, along with himself.

If you are sure you will be raptured into heaven, your clothes left behind with the nonbelievers, then this news should cheer you up. If you are rational, however, these may be some of the last few weeks or months in which to enjoy what is left of our beleaguered, dying republic and way of life.

Yes! The war is inevitable! It will be a part of the bitter story of American collapse. A story that already began in 1861. This isn't that much about Bush as the US:s will to remain on top, and the desperate things some people will be ready to do to keep it that way. They will ofcourse in the end lose. They had two choises;the easy way of excepting a global, multicultural and multipolar world, ot the HARD WAY! They have chosen the HARD WAY, and this is what they will eventually get. War with Iran will only be the beginning of the end!

This is how a theocracy works

As America feels itself shriveling and wastng away, she becomes ever more desperate and clutches ever more firmly onto its shabby excuse for spirituality for rescue. Of course, the church has no answers except to pray harder aganst the enemy, blindly obey the current "leadership" and give more on Sundays.

With this kind of moral example, America has no problem justifying anything it sees fit to do, however immoral, and there is hardly a peep of objection from the congregation.

Why would they? They learned character and morality in church where they talk the talk but don't walk the walk, and where their clergy has no problem with war.

As America inches closer to its third war under this Christian* president, there is nary a peep of objection coming from the church. This is the same kind of help religion religion has offered the world for centuries: war.

Nor does the clergy teach them that the president is wrong to lie America into war. Or, to steal from the poor and give to the rich. Worthless. The church has been an abject failure as a moral example or teacher, in the US anyway.

---

* Yeah, I know, I know. He's not a "real" Christian. Two things: (1) Nobody was saying that until a few years into his administration when it was clear that he had no morals and was incompetent, and they wanted to distance themselves from his failures, and (2) He's as real as they get, if by real you mean actually in existance and signficantly impacting the rest of reality. Could Jesus pass that test?

Religion is not the real motive.

To sell more weapons, to increase the costs of oil, to create a police-state in america and later in europe (when the UE will be on its knees), to give israel the definitive influence in the ME area, to move another step forward the American Global Empire. These are the main real reasons for a war against Iran, and behind it is the same military-industrial complex Eisenhower warned about.
I don't believe that the religious motives are really important in this scenario, aside of giving the false impression of some moral motives behind all this horrible catastrophic thing they have prepared for us.
Why such a phony reason? Because it fits with the simplified world they have in mind for us, and because that's how little freedom of movement their crippled imagination has. We shouldn't fall for that.

The cowards want to attack Iran also because, by the way, it poses no real threat. It has no weapons of mass destruction, just like Iraq, Yugoslavia, Somalia, Vietnam, Nicaragua etc etc. The U.S. military is basically MADE OF COWARDS. Who else would torture people if not cowards by the way?

Our monstrous elite doesn't believe in anything else but the reasons of its own greed, the desperate spinning around without grasping of the lost souls who inhabits it. Or something like that.
The reason why they are so dangerous is because behind their big guns are very small, frightened persons.

(I am feeling that I will find myself believing in God, waiting for the bombs or the dogs to come. That's all right, I've always been searching anyway.)

The illegal atack upon, and destruction of a country, imprisionment without charge, torture, rape, murder got almost no reaction judging by Bush's ratings in the polls.
A twisted politician, pursuing (a) teenage boy puts the Republicans on the nose.

What, or where are the American publics' values?

I would like to make a comment on Robert Greenwald's Documentary, "Iraq For Sale" in which most of those civilians that went over there, claimed they went there to help rebuild Iraq. My guess is, it was a way of making a fast buck and not have to pay taxes on it. It didn't take long though, to find out how ruthless corporate america is and can be. I have watched that Docmentary four times already, and it makes me more pissed off everytime. Robert Greenwald needs to commended for putting together a good piece of work. For those of you who haven't seen it, I highly recommend you do. You can order it online for about $13.

The Devil made Bush invade Iraq

Evidence of Dub-ya's messianic thinking was provided by a BBC transcript published on October 6, 2005. The text quoted two Palestinian leaders, Prime Minister Abu Mazen and his deputy, Nabil Shaath, after they met privately with George W. in June 2003.

According to the British report, Bush said to Mazen and Shaath, "I'm driven with a mission from God. He told me, 'George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan' and I did. Then God told me, 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq' and I did. Now, again, I feel God's words coming to me: 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East,' and, by God, I'm gonna do it."

Assuming he wasn't fibbing and God isn't stupid, there can only be two explanations for Shrub the Charlatan hearing words in his head. He's either schizophrenic or the voice belonged to Dick Cheney.

Instead of a "mission from God," how about "The Devil made me do it!"

Cheers everyone, Doug

Where is it written warmongers go to heaven?

Destroying the world, living utmost hypocritical, selfish and pathetic lives, killing countless people, and whatever else...where is it written that those responsible, those actively seeking this destruction, or even promoting and supporting or merely believing in it, that 'heaven' (if ever there is one) or some Jesus or god, are waiting for these kind of people???
Christianity has made up another gruesome place for the likes of those: 'hell'.
They probably know that, deep down, and they're just set to share their hell with everybody else, by creating hell on earth.

Life is the most precious gift there is. Given by 'god', the universe, grace, whatever you might believe in. And this earth is what we have been given to live on. This earth could be the not-illusive heaven, for everybody. Which takes sharing, courage, selflessness, giving, responsebility, love...

But imagine 'christians' working towards something like thát. Nahhh...destruction is so much easier. Why care about others?!

Bush as Satan?
Posted by: Dianka on Oct 10, 2006 6:27 AM
Current rating: Not yet rated    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
On points regarding the Armageddon/the Apocalypse, there are many points of similarity between George W. Bush and the AntiChrist, with one glaring exception. Remember that Satan was originally a powerful and beloved soul in the heirarchy of Heaven. In short, he was cast out of heaven when he wanted power over God. Satan is described as not merely "beautiful to the eye", but is consistently described in terms of his intelligence. Enough said?

There are many similarities between our understanding of "the End Times" and today's events, and this has been true of many, many periods of history. The bottom line for believers is that the Bible says that we won't know "the hour or the day" of Christ's return, and so we're supposed to live with the understanding that it could happen this afternoon or a thousand years from now. The point: not to live in fear, as if you thought you would die tomorrow, but to keep your priorities in life straight. (Don't waste your life on material acquisition, because all of that could be wiped out in a moment, etc.)

That being said, I might be wrong here, but it has been my impression all along that George W. Bush really doesn't care one way or another. He takes the presidency as seriously as he takes a video game. Believers have to recognize that the Bush administration does, by definition, consist of the classic servants of Satan. We know this by the unnerving zeal for war that has come to define this administration. Satan is defined in terms of strife, chaos, lies, death and destruction and an absence of justice.

Ask me a few months ago, and I would have said we were on a certain path to attack. But a number of things have occurred since then to make me question this. For one, we see the utter impotence of Bush in the face of the North Korean test. We see the quagmire of Iraq not getting better. We see the gross incompetence across all levels of government. The machine is grinding to a halt.

I just don't think the US can launch an attack with the state of the military today. Bush is weak. The rest of the world can see he is weak. That is why every two-bit dictator is thumbing his nose at the US.

Blair is in even a greater mess. His government also barely functions. Ask anyone who lives in the UK.

As much as we would like to blame others for what is going on, it is important to remember that we as a nation have created what exists today. We are all guilty of the imperialism, the despotism and the exploitation that exists today. This is just the final scene of our own creation and demise. Your tax dollars at work.

The Creator vs. the Destroyer
Posted by: cielo on Oct 10, 2006 7:49 AM
Current rating: Not yet rated    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Monotheism was begun in Iran with Zoroastrianism, upon which Christianity and Islam were heavily influenced. Christianity believes in an all powerful god and a lesser devil, and that good naturally wins over evil, as it is more powerful in the end. The ancient Persian religion Zoroastrianism has two equal forces, the Creator and the Destroyer. Both powers exist within all humanity, and making the moral choice to side with the Creator takes some effort, meaning working for social justice and the good of mankind (ie., Life is a dualist struggle between good and evil, not a place where you are good if you go to church once a week to socialize with your friends, and otherwise support war and hatred against others you know nothing about).

Unfortunately the Destroyer has been busy, but it will have to fight to the last drop of blood against a people who have fought of conquerors for the last 2,500 years. Even the Mongol Destroyers under Ghengis Khan were not able to destroy Persia (Iran) in the end, despite killing much of the population, and the Mongols weren't afraid to die. Persian culture was just too strong, and its brilliant influence is evident throughout central Asia all the way to India (the cities of Esphahan, Samarkand, Khiva, and Agra and the magnificent Taj Mahal).

Will an army run by chickenhawks who have never experienced war, leading largely fearful soldiers who are mostly ignorant of where they've been sent be able to conquer such a place that has been dominant in the region artistically and militarily for thousands of years? A place where civilization and monotheistic religion began? The land of Persia, now Iran, where great culture, art, and architecture have been known and respected all along the Silk Road, from the Mediterranean to India and China, through all the 'Stans.

Iran is a country that has always rebelled against foreign influence and conquerors, be they the Greeks, the Romans, or the Arabs. Despite a lousy 25 years of religious fanaticism (again, of rebellion against Western foreign influence and insatiable quest for oil resources, through reactionary revolution), even today, Iran is too beautiful of a country to be crudely destroyed. But beauty obviously doesn't stop the Destroyer, who thrives on its Destruction. I fear that only running out of fuel will.

Bush would'nt be here. However, because Bush is here could explain that even if there was a god he is not as powerful as the evil force driving Bush. How many people have to suffer and die before the real 'god' decides to make an appearance on behalf of humanity? God is dead and Bush lives in infamy.

Would they support a military attack on Iran, and can Bush attack Iran without their support?

The Iranians have the ability to make things MUCH worse for us in Iraq, if they want to. Those 140,000 US troops now in Iraq are basically hostages to the Iranians, and the Generals have to think about that as they contemplate an attack on Iran.

Bush could be a total loon, for all I know, but he still needs people to follow his orders for any of this to happen (unless he plans to fly the bombers himself).

An excellent point, just above: will the top brass actually obey an order to plunge themselves into destruction?

I never thought I'd be calling for a military coup, but if Chris Hedges is right, that may be all that can save us - and about a million Iranians. Talk of impeachment or winning elections is beside the point now: the attack is likely to come before the elections, or before the new Congress takes office; and what makes you think a new Congress would, or could, stop him? Top Democrats are trying to out-hawk him.

Is there someone out there who can call on the military to refuse orders to attack Iran, and actually be heard by them? None of us qualify; we need to reach someone they will hear (Powell? Zinni? A whole contingent of retired brass?). I'm going to talk to Veterans For Peace, see if they have suggestions (the organization is another possibility, but not as mainstream). If you have further ideas, please post them.

We don't have much time.

First of all, this article does a disservice to the American people by portraying Bush as inspired by religious motivations. That's exactly what the conservative Christians 'need to hear' in order to keep their support. On right-wing blogs, this article can be cited as evidence of the left's hatred for religion, and thus it can be used to 'rally the troops', who seem to be absolutely disgusted with Mark Foley and the dishonesty of the Bush Admin.

Bush is not religous, he's a cynical greedy slimeball who does anything his handlers (Rove, Schultz and Kissenger) tell him to do - while wearing the mantle of religious fervor. This is blatantly obvious to anyone who looks at the details. What do you think will happen to oil prices if Iran is attacked? $100/ barrel minimum. What will happen to the value of Exxon, Chevron, Shell, BP, Conoco, Occidental, etc. if this happens? Their reserves will increase in value - maybe even double. New world record profit margins for his billionaire cronies - that's all Bush cares about.

I wouldn't be surprised if we suddenly hear that Iran has attacked a US warship in the Persian Gulf, and that 'we have no choice' but to respond. Would that be Karl Rove's "October Surprise"?

Why is alternet publishing this crap? Would alternet consider writing a brief explanation of its editorial policy?

It's probably a matter of time when we attack Iran. Expect more deaths, ruined cities, broken people, broken dreams, broken hopes. I have nothing against Iranians and I hope we don't treat them as savagely as the Iraqi people. How much more violence can we create on this planet? We're heading into a danger zone if we invade Iran. We must not let it happen.

I thought it suspicous that this new MCA2006 was signed with little to no debate or decent. Now I know why: it will better take care of those still claiming to have some "rights" to know the charges against them when they're being sent to the KB&R camps, once the "big war" commences.

Rational thought says no, there's no way Bush & Co. would involve the US in another war, let alone with North Korea cock-blocking at the moment. However, these people aren't rational and in fact, only believe in the reality they create. Don't be surprised if somehow North Korea is linked to Iran and the civil war in Iraq. Then there's always the issue of another "terrorist attack/9/11." Any dog will attack you if you back it into a corner or against a wall, let alone a mad dog. Of course, nuclear war will kill many people but, let's be honest about this, the elites of the world (not only this country for, unlike many on the left, I see what's happening now as a global problem and not just the result of a few mad hatter in Washington) do not care about the lives of the people unless they can help them amass more profit. Our lives are expendable. The elites do not fear nuclear war because they feel they can survive it, make the civilians that survive work as their slaves, and remake the world in their image. Now, the air might not be breathable, the water undrinkable, and assuming numerous nukes are going off, who knows how the Earth will resond (in terms of gravity, plate movements, glacial sheet melting, weather, etc.). The world, post nuclear war, might not be a place humans can live in. Perhaps there's a reason Venus is visible in the sky prior to the sun rising and after its setting: as a warning. However, never underestimate the power of arrogance combined with ignorance, of which those in power seem to have much. Again: these people do not care about anyone not in their circles of power and have shown, through numerous examples throughout history, that they'll willingly sacrifice civilian lives if it serves their objectives.

I am depressed by the news, but not surprised. The state of things, now, has been a long time in coming. Perhaps, given the path mankind has taken these thousands of years, we need to start over? Nonetheless, I'm not awaiting the "rapture" anymore than I am seeing Israel bomb Lebanon again. While we've got some time left, smash somethin', have a drink, get fucked, and enjoy your life while you can still live it.

this time W will want to fire but unless he wants to fly his old National Guard plane into the govt buildings in Tehran, nobody is going to Iran. Our millitary knows it was used and abused in Iraq. It is not going to commit suicide in the vast mountains of Iran, and be harassed by milliions of gurerillas and their supporters. Plus most generals these days do graduate studies in policy and international affairs. They are not going to destroy the energy production of the Middle East over some fairy tale written by a pschotic in the first or second centuries.

To hell with "revolution". We need a coup d'etat to get rid of this little ignorant jerk. And he orders troops or planes into Iran, he and Cheney will be breaking rocks.

This will not be an Afghanistan. This will not be an Iraq.

Iran is much more equipped to do alot of damage to US forces and allies.

Iran also has many allies who will rise up to attack US interests.

Venezuela and the 120+ Non-aligned nations will not sit idly by. If we think we saw high fuel costs this summer, an Iran war will make that look like the good old days.

Look for days of shortages, higher prices and mandatory drafts. Watch in horror as more of our young people are sent off to die for the war profiteers.

We will have oursleves to blame for allowing this administration to continue unabated in its pursuit of world-wide dominance and empire. We will have ourselves to blame when the horrors of war come to our own shores as the world moves to act against our aggressions.

Watch the military buildup in the Persian Gulf in apprehensive horror - and vote to get rid of the Republican enablers!

And this from a supposed MSM Mid East expert? Talk about childish…

This entire column is based on toilet flush. Abrams and his supposed rodeo clown boss GW Bush are obvious toy puppets for corporate crime. Actors that engage in any ruse to get at Big Oil under the Mid East. From 911 cover-up to WMD and religious pretexts, it’s all good if it adds to the bottom line. And for corporate mafia dons in charge of foisting “war on terror” a public cost, even better.

Bush and the entire DC-MSM brothel are the most obvious poodles for corporate fascist thievery since Woodrow Wilson was palmed off on the White House to gin up a WW I Sedition Act and illegal “Federal Reserve” Act (not federal and minus any reserves but a bunko scam). A blatantly unconstitutional Military Commissions Act of 2006 shows how far the latest gang of sellouts is willing to go.

The author of this article is right, Iran is next. North Korea was added to the 'Axis of Evil' list because the Bush administration did not want the masses to figure out that the only real targets were Iraq and Iran (for Israel's benefit). NK was a throw in. As everything else with this administration, it blew up in their face (literally). So the gov't will do what it always does, surpress our rights by suspending habeas corpus, detaining demonstrators, banning books like "America Deceived" from Amazon, conducting warrant-less wiretaps and starting more illegal wars (to benefit Israel) based on lies.

Fatal Flaws in Judeo-Christian-Islamic Prophecy
Posted by: SevenStarHand on Oct 10, 2006 3:31 PM
Current rating: Not yet rated    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Did you ever consider that Christianity is the primary False Prophet and “harlot” symbolized in the Apocalypse, that Rome (Vatican/Papacy) is the so-called anti-messiah and leader of the “beast”, and Jesus Christ is the major false messiah? I have produced stunning and comprehensive proof that this is the true interpretation of pivotal prophecies long confounded by Christianity’s founders and leaders. Recasting the symbolism of earlier Hebrew texts as literal events and supernatural concepts in the New Testament is one of the central deceptions associated with Christianity. Likewise, the other two so-called faiths of Abraham do the same thing, though to a (slightly) lesser degree.

The original versions of these ancient texts were meant as sources of verifiable wisdom for the future. Instead, religious leaders over the centuries have deceptively and arrogantly modified and recast wisdom narratives to become religious canons. A prime example of Judeo-Christian fraud and error are the myriad Christian prophecy assertions and interpretations.

For example, the so-called “Seven Years Tribulation,” which is a central theme in Christian prophecy, is easily shown to be the result of purposely recast and obfuscated Hebrew symbolism. Seven “years” actually symbolizes seven 360-year cycles on the Hebrew calendar. Ezekiel 39.9 is referring to the 10th to 16th cycles inclusive, while the Apocalypse symbolizes the 11th cycle (second temple period) until now, the beginning of the 17th cycle (seventh angel/star/seal, etc.). The first chapter of my book presents comprehensive proof of this. Both Ezekiel and the Apocalypse are symbolizing an overlapping period of time that starts during ancient Judea (second temple period) and ends now. That time-span fits into a period just under a full seven 360-year cycles. Greece (Alexander the Great) conquered the Persian Empire and Judea during the 10th cycle and Rome did so again during the 11th cycle.

Ezekiel mentions Gog and Magog, which Christians assume refers to Russia or other modern nations who will gather for a battle of Armageddon. Like most Christian prophecy, this interpretation is cobbled together from disparate passages to support nebulous religious assertions. Actually, Gog refers to Greco-Romans (from the "isles"), which means Magog is Eurasia. The "army" that besets "Israel" for seven "years" refers to the activities of the nations of the Greco-Roman/Vatican Empire over the previous two-plus millennia. To the ancient Hebrews, the Greeks and the Greek speaking Romans represented the same invaders. This conclusion is reinforced by the Books of Daniel, 4 Ezra (11-13) and others, once you learn how to read the symbolism properly. Verification of this information exposes a whole new (and truthful) meaning to these prophecies. Consequently, the so-called “battle of Armageddon” is exposed as a purposely false assertion.

In this context, "years" and "times" are symbols for 360-year cycles on the Hebrew calendar and days symbolize literal years. Therefore, "Judgment Day," and "Great Day" refer to a yearlong period and the flow of events during that period. Accordingly, the so-called "Seven Years Tribulation" began in ancient Judea and is now nearing its end, not starting. The nations and followers of all three faiths of Abraham have been thoroughly deceived by (Greco-)Rome during the previous calendar age, which ended in year 2000 (5760). A new age began in 2001 (5761) and now the seventh angel has begun to sound!

Here is Wisdom !!

Here is what happens if Bush attacks Iran:

1. Iran attacks what it can best. The US troops in Iraq. Iran and the insurgents will launch rocket attacks into the "Green Zone." The net result, hundreds of Americans killed.

2. Jihad unites the Shiite and Sunis in Iraq with the USA as enemy #1. US troops will be unable even to evacuate the country without mass slaughter. Hundreds perhaps thousands of American soldiers will die.

3. Iranian oil is cut off. Next, Venezuela in sympathy cuts off oil shipments to the USA. Other countries, Saudi Arabia and Russia could follow suit. The net result, oil spikes to over $200 and perhaps $300 a barrel. Next, Iran closes the Straits of Hormuz, the US Navy has to go in to open it up. In the meantime, oil spikes again to $400 or perhaps $500 a barrel. Massive economic disruption and global recession start to collapse the economies of the USA, Europe and China.

4. Iran unleashes clanestine operatives across the world. Thousands of Americans die in terrorist attacks in US major cities and in Europe.

5. Seizing a ripe opportunity, North Korea sends a nuke over Seoul and a nuke over Tokyo. Casualties mount to over 1 million. Paralyzed by economic recession, terrorism at home, and the wars in Iran and Iraq, the USA cannot help. China intervenes with a land invasion of North Korea along with South Korea. Japan also intervenes. War breaks out between China and Japan very quickly over control of the Korean peninsula.

Need I say more???

2. Democrats take at least one chamber.

3. Some balance is restored and the remainder of Bush's term is spent dealing with investigations of all the abuses over the first six years and nobody else gets invaded.

perhaps Chris Hedges truly doesn't "dispute" that Iran is intending to acquire nuclear weapons sometime in the future, but he failed to mention that much of our apocalyptic rhetoric is based on the idea that Iran even CAN at this point, which is disputed here:
http://tinyurl.com/o8noo

Where two nuclear experts have analyzed the type of nuclear infrastructure in Iran and concluded, for several reasons, that what they have is incapable of producing nuclear weapons

Another article posted on the same site (from a different source) mentions that one of Iran's reactors--which might possibly be used to make nuclear weapons--was originally provided to Iran by the US.

Israel insists that its "policy of ambiguity" is meant as the best of both worlds: a deterrent AND prevention against nuclear proliferation.

Meanwhile, the US strategy includes an air campaign where we plan on using nuclear "bunker buster" bombs, with the apology that they are ok because they are "relatively small nukes"...

This whole situation is completely insane.

It is unfair to blame Christianity for George Bush. True Christians understand that he is not doing the will of God. The only Christians who support Bush either do so for political reasons, or because they are being misled by preachers who benefit from his being in office.

By the way, one can be both a Christian and a Liberal. After all, Jesus was a Liberal, wasn't he?

When are we, the American people, going to stand up and stop these warmongerers from destroying the world with
constant war(s)?

These dictatorial sociopaths care nothing for anyone but those
closest to them, their families and their elite friends.

We need to see through the bullsh*t with this phony "war on
terror", which is nothing but false flag baloney.

Iran doesn't even have nuclear weapons, so why the hell
attack them? I'll tell you why. Because we the people have
believed their lies again and again.

They, along with the media's aid, have planted lies and di-
stortions about Iran, fueling our hatred for a country that
hasn't done diddly squat to us!

The same lies they told about Afghanistan, Iraq, and now
Iran, can't be believed. The truth is there, look to the in-
ternet, listen to yourself, and trust only your suspicions.

NEVER, EVER trust government. The government, no matter
who is in power, cares only for itself and the agenda. And
the "real government" is a secret, hidden government.

The FED (Federal Reserve), is more powerful than Congress
and the government(s) we allegedly vote into power. They
want constant war, chaos, death, oppression home and a-
broad.

The NeoCons, who proposed PNAC(Project for a New Ameri-
can Century), got their New Pearl Harbor on 9/11. That was
the false flag to attack both Afghanistan and Iraq.

Now they will start wars with every country in the Middle
East that "they", not we the people or Congress(corrupt, no
good criminals), choose to start with.

They don't care whether they win or lose war(s), the agenda
is to attack and kill as many people as possible. We can't
believe them when they say, "we're liberating them, we
want to bring democracy and freedom to the people", BULL!

The countries they attack know what's really going to happen
to them when American/coalition troops(sacrificial lambs) arrive. They will NEVER have the lives they lived, whether
they lived in a democracy or a dictatorship.

All their rights and freedoms will now be what the "occupi-
ers" say. The innocent will be labeled falsely as insurgents.
When all they are doing is fighting the "occupiers".

When the war(mass murder) begins, bombs will rain on the
innocent men, women, and children, wiping out thousands
of people and destroying most of the infrastructure.

That is why they hate, not America or the people, but the poli-
cies and the criminals who create them and carry them out.
That's why we the people need to stop them from continu-
ing this madness.

It makes us complicit because we just continue to let these
monsters lie to us and cheat us into giving them more power
to murder and wreak havoc without remorse or restraint.

The longer we stay silent and do nothing, the longer this will
go on and on and on. Stand up and end their reign of terror
now, before it's too late. If we continue to follow wherever
they lead us without doubt, criticism, questions, accountabi-
lity, or suspicion, we will all be doomed.

This is the exact blueprint that Hitler and the Nazis followed.
And look where the people's silence got them.

I, for one will "dispute Iran's intentions to acquire nuclear weapons." In fact I do so here. They say it's against their religion, and besides, the only evidence exists in our fevered imaginations. We need to stop looking at the world through the paranoid prism of a fading imperial power.

That said, thanks for your cogent post, Chris. I'll bet it feels liberating to be able to call it as you see it, in a way you weren't able to while you were working for the New York Times!

We've all had some hard lessons to learn these past years, as we've realized just how far those in power are willing to go, in twisting reality to feed their crazed End of Days project. And we should be shocked and ashamed, all of us, for waiting this long, for not doing more.

Progressive websites like this one are a start, but we need to persuade the rest of America to share our concern. We can't let this happen. We can't be sitting here in a few weeks or months, with the Middle East in flames, and say "I told you so." That's not good enough.

If anyone's organizing to bring this message to the American people, to defend Iran's cause in advance of the attacks, count me in.

Is Shrub the burning bush or the anti-christ

If you add up the numbers of his name using the Chaldean System you get 3+5+7+2+3+5 for George, +6+1+3+2+5+2 for Walker, and +2+6+3+5 for Bush, which adds up to a total of 60 = 6+0 = 6. Once again the number is still 6..
But hold on, because we’re not through yet. ASCII stands for American Standard Code for Information Interchange. The computer you're using to read this can only understand numbers, and ASCII is the numerical representation of a character such as ‘B’ or else an action of some sort. If you add up Bush's name in ASCII, you get 71+101+111+114+103+101 for George, 87+97+108+107+101+114 for Walker, and 66+117+115+104 for Bush, which adds up to a total of 1617 = 1+6+1+7 = 15 = 1+5 = 6.
To recap: George Bush's name is equal to 666 if we use the Hebrew letter equivalents. It is also equal to 666 if we use the two most commonly used systems in numerology as well as in ASCII code.
(George Bush has another name that is often used to identify him politically. He’s a Republican from Texas. If you add up Republican in the most commonly used Pythagorean system you get 9+5+7+3+2+3+9+3+1+9 = 51 = 5+1 = 6. If you add up Texas you get 2+5+6+1+1 = 15 = 1+5 = 6. And if you add up Texas Republican you get 15 + 51 = 66.)
(Ever wonder why George Herbert Walker Bush Sr. left the 'Herbert' out when naming his son? George = six letters, Walker = six letters, and BushJr (or 'Busche', which was the original German spelling of their name) = six letters. = 666. Once again, the number of the beast.)

But hold onto your hat, because we are far from finished.

Revelation says the number of the beast (the Antichrist) is 666 – it does not say this is only the number of his name, though that could be part of it. Let's continue with the second number used by numerologists, the date of his birth.

Mr. Bush was born July 6, 1946. If you add up all the digits in his date of birth you get 7+6+1+9+4+6 = 33 = 3+3 = 6.

The third number used by numerologists is the "fate" number. Many numerologists find the fate, destiny or ‘lucky’ number by simply taking the day of the month of your birth (and reducing if necessary) – since Bush’s birth day is the 6th of July – no reduction is necessary.
But just to make sure, the other way of finding the fate number is by adding the individual components of the date of birth to a sum before reducing. Bush’s birth date is 7/6/1946 = 7+6+1946 = 1959 = 1+9+5+9 = 24 = 2+4 = once again, our third 6.

However, to be absolutely, positively certain that we’re dealing with the Antichrist, consider that most important identifiers of a man, also indicating his good luck or fate, can be found in the most important dates in his life – like the day of his marriage or the dates of his children’s birth, for instance. However, since it is the Antichrist we are talking about, the most important dates in the Antichrist’s life will be those dates on which he acquires world power. The dates on which the Antichrist gains world power will also be available to people everywhere, so that anyone can check to see if that particular date has any connections to the Antichrist.

The antichrist's first step in his goal of attaining complete world domination for Satan, was achieved on that fateful day Mr. bush was first elected governor of Texas - his first elected office - on November 8, 1994. Again, just by adding up the digits we get 1+1+8+1+9+9+4 = 33 = 3+3 = 6. He was first inaugurated as Governor of Texas on January 17, 1995. = 1+1+7+1+9+9+5 = 33 = 3+3 = 6.

Then after losing the popular vote on November 7, 2000, the Antichrist took his next giant leap towards ruling the earth when he was nevertheless inaugurated president of the United States on January 20, 2001. 1+2+0+2+0+0+1 = 6.

The primary post notes the USS Eisenhower strike group and lists its elements. It is due to Persian Gulf region around October 21 supposedly to relieve USS Enterprise which is in Arabian Sea area. Note from globalsecurity.org the make up of USS Boxer expeditionary group which has sailed from California and note especially the new command structure of that group. CG Bunker Hill fired 23 Tomahawk missiles in support of Iraq I. Smells like Rumsfeld joins the navy. French and Italian vessels remain off Lebanon coast, supposedly in support of Israel/Lebanon cease fire. The end of Ramadan comes on October 23.

Bush is running out of boots!

While Mr. Bush may think he’s pre-ordained in this “Holy War” to now take out Iran, the fact remains that he’s running out of Army to do it with. He and his cabal can talk all day about “surgical air strikes” on Iran. However, as he now knows from the debacle he and his crones have created in Iraq, to actually win wars, you need boots on the ground.

And, he’s running out of “boots”.

Does anyone remember Mr. Bush’s grand announcement at the start of 2006 that the 145,000 troops currently stationed in Iraq would be cut back to 100,000 by the end of the year? It isn't going to happen. Not only are troop levels not being reduced, but some 8,000 soldiers have just had their 12-month tours of duty extended!

In fact, since the start of the Iraq war, "dwell time" as it's called, has been steadily chipped away, going from 24 months between missions down to 18 months, then 14, 12 and, in at least one case, 10 months. There comes a point when you start wearing out your troops because they have no time to recycle. Longer and longer tours away from home and family also make joining (and remaining in) the military less and less attractive. And, sure enough, recruiting and retention across the armed services has plummeted.

What’s more, in July, an official report revealed that roughly two-thirds of the active-duty US Army was classified as "not ready for combat." With now roughly one-third of that army deployed somewhere, that means the United States now has ZERO combat-ready brigades in reserve. And our Guard and Reserve forces are, likewise, stretched right to the breaking point as they now make up some 20 percent of our war-fighting force.

So, what about those continued arrogant assurances from Mr. Bush and his ilk that "as the Iraqi forces stand up, we will stand down"? That grand plan isn’t working, either. To date, only 128,000 Iraqi troops have been trained, and, reportedly, there are clear and continuing problems with their loyalty, competence and commitment.

But, instituting an all-out draft, or even enlarging our own all-volunteer Army at this point would be an extremely hard sell to an increasingly skeptical U.S. voting public. And, regardless, even if the US started to ramp up recruiting immediately, it would STILL take two years to ready those new recruits. If Bush and his cabal had realistically started thinking about this problem three years ago, they'd have the size of army they needed now to effectively combat the insurgency in Iraq and still have some combat ready troops left to use elsewhere. But, unfortunately, THAT would have also required them to realistically plan for such a contingency.

THIS, my friends, is why all of Mr. Bush’s blustery talk about “taking out Iran” is little more than a pipe dream at this point. He and his cronies absolutely blew it in Iraq, and they are now frantically trying to buy time and hope we’ll continue swallowing their oft-repeated lie that we are “winning” the war in Iraq. The truth is that we are losing the war in Iraq…on all fronts. What’s more, we have no hope of “winning” there anytime soon because, thanks to Mr. Bush and his crony’s own lack of foresight and planning, the insurgents are now outstripping the US’s ability to effectively fight back…or to wage war anywhere else.

I do not know what evidence ther is for suggesting that Bush may be a believer in Armageddon. Reagan was .of course. a self proclaimed believer that these are the Last Times.
The Iranian President appears to hold similar views from an Islamic perspective.
Can anyone suggest possible links between the three

Bush a religious man? Please! Are you kididng us?
Sure he will attack Iran's nuuk'ear instalations but he won't invade. he doesnt have the army numbers to do so. Aftwr all he needs to divert the attention of the sheeple from Iraq and Afganistan. I agree with the posters, Bush is a coward. He will never attack N Korea because they might bite back but weakened Iraq was an easy pray.
It's all about the money and power. All these nice million of dollars are going all the companies. That is what amuses me MOST. You Amaricans who frequesnt this site should be gratful to Shrub Jr. After all he is trying to preserve your "way of life" and uour 1st world status. America after all has been in a perpertual war since 1940s. Look at your history Americans! Without a war your economy cannot function! So instead of bleering like the confused sheep you are you should be lining up behind him and praising him for trying to preserve your economy. Now go out and spend spend SPEND! simply untill you have maxed those credit cards! You MUST support the economy, right?

Don't read this in your local news! Or any news in the US for that matter. A real survey says at least 655000 Iraqis have died since Bush started this war and at least a quarter of a million were slaughtered by US forces! And you have the neck to accuse Saddam of genocide! Why your actions make even Milosvic look good. Aren't you ashamed? And as for your deaths, frankly it amounts to nothing against what the Iraqis have suffered. Smoke that!

This used to a great source for different viewpoints and even though it was from the beginning bent to the left, it wasn't overrun by propaganda. Now it seems that almost every piece is aimed at discrediting the Republicans, the President and his policies. I'm no Republican by any means, but lets be honest here - the Democratic Party is getting off easy. This site should be about exchanging ideas, exposing the truth and challenging conventional wisdom. Instead it seems more like a political propagandist machine. Please bring back some sensibility to this website and drop the propaganda...PLEASE!

Exterminate Iran Now!

Exterminate Iran Now!

Three atomic bombs against Iran are all we need for a Century of Peace. The imminent nuclear bombardment of Iran will automatically cancel the forthcoming tribulation of Europe.

The antihuman murderous clique of the top Iranian officials and mullahs works ceaselessly to drive the entire world into an inferno of ultimate annihilation in a nuclear furnace. Using their puppet president as a tool to fool gullible Asiatic diplomats and indecisive European and destabilized American statesmen, the hidden masters of Qom are convinced that through a global holocaust they enforce the re-appearance of the Twelfth Imam, the legendary figure of the Shia version of Messiah. According to their paranoiac mind, they have nothing to lose…

Iran: the abomination of the desolation

The term may have been used with respect to Apocalyptic Jerusalem, but it rather suits today's vertigo of oppression and intolerance, as practiced throughout the Iranian plateau.

In the western half of Iran's surface, Azeris, Turks, Kurds, Loris, Bakhtiaris, and Arabic speaking Aramaeans of Khuzestan total no less than 27 million people who aspire to independence, freedom, democratic rule, human rights, socio-economic progress and peace. They all passionately desire to get rid of the barbaric sub-culture of Shia theology, knowing very well that the ruling bogus-Islamic criminals of Qom – Mashad – Tehran want just to utilize them for their Satanic purposes of nuclear domino.

In large part of Iran's south-east, several millions of Baluchis have placed all their hopes for independence, democracy and socio-economic progress on the forthcoming – and long expected – American attack and annihilation of Tehran. More than four millions of errant Afghanis avoided the Taliban cholera only to fight the Ayatollah abomination on daily basis, and this has lasted several decades already. It is a desperate misery that is a shame for all the Mankind.

A Cemetery of Peoples named Iran

Persians represent 50 to 55% of the entire population of this country – cemetery of peoples. Approximately 10% of the entire population of Persians have left Iran over the past 27 years, and prospered in various countries and continents, keeping always in mind and deep in their heart the perspective of free Persia – Cradle of Civilization, as truly this great land has been for almost three millennia. Among Persians, those who highly evaluate the great pre-Islamic past of the Achaemenids, the Arsacids and the Sassanids are the worst enemies of the Satanic regime of the Ayatollahs.

Those who still practice Parsism, the latest phase of Zarathustra's lofty religion, represent a lethal enemy of the bogus Islamic madness of the inhuman monsters who tyrannize Iran. They are our brothers and our sisters, they have full right to practice their religion in their own country, and the World owes so much to their ancestry that we cannot avoid interfering without defaming our own past.

Alexander the Great has been the common denominator for all, Christian Westerners, Jews, Persian Parsists and all Muslims who ascribe themselves to the Human race and to World Civilization.

For the Common Heritage of Alexander the Great, the Western powers must come to help of the tyrannized peoples of Iran, face the challenge immediately, and evacuate all their nationals from Iran as soon as possible.

Very little time is left if we truly want to avoid the Satanic domino effect that has been well orchestrated by the most antihuman and the most perverted minds the world has ever known.

Three atomic bombs against Iran are all we need for a Century of Peace.

There aren't enough carrier strike groups in the area to attack Iran yet. Here's where all of our carriers not in their home ports are located right now, from the Navy's own website:

http://www.navy.mil/navydata/nav...gacy.asp? id=146

USS Enterprise (CVN 65) - Arabian Sea
USS Nimitz (CVN 6 - Pacific Ocean
USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) - Atlantic Ocean
USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) - Pacific Ocean

In the first Gulf War (desert Sheild) we had four carrier battle groups operating in the Persian Gulf, together with the two additional battle groups in the Red Sea, complemented the striking power of land-based coalition air forces in Saudi Arabia and other coalition Gulf states, and the USAF units in eastern Turkey. This effectively surrounded Iraq with strike capability and demonstrated the mobility, flexibility and firepower which naval forces bring to the battlefield.

An attack on Iran would dwarf the attack on Iraq in Desert Storm. We simply do not have the forces in the area to do the job right now. And with Korea heating up we are going to have to have Carrier Battle Groups available in the Pacific for the frorseeable future.

I don't know where to draw the line between my worship and my idea of Caesar.
Nonetheless President Bush has the exact same thinking as his father (SAME MIND). They whole heartedly believe that their lives are more important than others. The Bushes are "People of the world".
Albrehct Durer visioned many scenarios from the Bible and 'The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse' (Revelations Ch. 6) came true. Four Architects in Seattle, Washington are open for business as we speak. I know because I used to work for "The Firm". oskaarchitects.com
Regarding the Iraq war: Babylon is IRAQ (the begining and the end).
Saddam and Bush are part of the same lie being put forth by a powerful consciousness of "worldly" people. Brainwashing is in "effect" stoping a revolution inside the U.S.
Smart/Awake folks are laughing at our President and giving up on his lame ass. Rightfully so.
