Good news from The Washington Posts' election blogger Chris Cillizza: The Democrats have increased their generic lead over the Republicans since March of 2006. Six months ago, the Democrats had a 13.4 percent margin over the Republicans on the all important generic ballot question: "If a congressional election were held to today in your district, would you vote for the Democrat or the Republican?"

Today, Chris reports that the Democrats' lead has increased to 14.8%, this figure is the average of the leads reported by 5 national polls conducted in August. Reported leads ranged from 12% (Newsweek) to 18% (AP/Ipsos and FOX/Opinion Dynamics).

There are still 84 days left before the mid-term elections. Matt Stoller notes, the two men most responsible for delivering the Democratic sweep the pundits are predicting, Chuch Schumer and Rahm Emmanuel, have made some rather serious mistakes, like this crypto-racist ad on the DSCC website.
