Today is the devil's day, a celebration for the evildoers; that's right, it is 6-6-06. Drop the 0, you get 666. As the L.A. Times notes, this day "has become an ideal date to launch music, records, books …" Jeffrey Godsick from marketing at 20th Century Fox says about 666, "It's partly superstition, partly fear, partly reality … These numbers seem to have a significant impact."

And on this day, the devil herself -- the Tall Blonde Woman in the Short Skirt With the Big Mouth (TBWSSBM, or TBW for short) -- has a new book out. You know who I'm talking about. I will not mention her name, nor the name of the book, the publisher or any of her previous books. She is releasing her book today as "a little tribute to liberals." The time has come to ignore this woman.

Of course, TBW is ready to bask in the glow of the huge publicity many journalists, reviewers, talk show hosts, bloggers, opinion shapers, editors and just plain chatterers will give her, despite her being one of the most destructive, irresponsible, foul-mouthed, fact-challenged, racist provocateurs in public life.

I urge you, I challenge you, I beg you, to ignore this woman. Find the inner discipline. The world will be a better place for it.

In case you think I'm exaggerating, or overreacting about TBW's destructive mouth, here are a small handful of the many dozens of appalling things she has said to get your attention, to get your blood flowing, to suck you into her world. She manipulates you. Then you enable her.

  • In a syndicated column: "I think the government should be spying on all Arabs, engaging in torture as a televised spectator sport and dropping daisycutters wantonly throughout the Middle East " (Daisycutter is a nickname for the 15,000-pound bomb, the largest conventional bomb in existence.)
  • From the N.Y. Observer: "My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building."
  • On Fox News' Your World, TBW declared that former President Bill Clinton "molested the help." She has also referred to Clinton as a "very good rapist."
  • In a syndicated column she wrote: "And mind you, this was before we knew Gore was clinically insane. Back then we thought he was just a double-talking stuffed shirt who seemed kind of gay."
  • In various interviews, TBW asks "whether America might be better off if women lost the right to vote."

So Mr. Media Makers, what do you think? Isn't it enough already? It is you, and all of us, who have turned TBW into a super "celebrity." Progressives, liberals, critics, many normally fine, intelligent men -- and almost all of them are men -- are to a great extent responsible for the enormous wealth, fame and disgusting success of TBW.

It is time for all of you who hate her so much, who want to get next to her so badly, who can't stop writing about her, interviewing her, attacking her, hanging out with her, flirting with her, sucking up to her, and yes, going blubbery brained apoplectic because she frustrates you so much, to face the hard truth.

You have an addiction.

You who suffer from TBW addiction are virtually a who's who, an all-star team of liberal and progressive male journalists, some of whom have devoted countless columns and whole sections of their books to TBW. I'm talking about you, Mr. Progressive Funny Guy (PFG) now on the progressive talk network, who writes books about liars that give all that publicity to the lies.

And you, Mr. Left Wing Media Critic (LWMC), who writes for that venerable left-wing rag with no pictures -- for you TBW is almost a cottage industry. You feel it a personal responsibility to let the world know about TBW: "It's degrading to have to write about [TBW] again. As a pundit, she is about on a par with Charles Manson, better suited to a lifelong stay in the Connecticut Home for the Criminally Insane …" "Her books are filled with lies, slander and phony footnotes that are themselves lies and slanders. Her very existence as a public figure is an insult to our collective intelligence."

So why are you writing about her? Do you think your audience doesn't know this already? Are you expecting right-wingers to find your column and change their ways?

Mr. LWMC is stuck with the "baffling phenomenon of the bestselling Barbie-doll terrorist-apologist," who continues to be celebrated by the very media she terms "retarded" and guilty of "mass murder."

So why are you writing about her?

Did I miss it? I got bored and skimmed thru the article, looking for the mea culpa where Don cops to the hypocrisy of writing about someone he says the media shouldn't write about. Didn't find it.

First, the obvious point. Writing a long article about how you don't want to hear about something makes no damned sense at all.

Coulter's popularity is easy to explain. Rather than use her intelligence to analyze policy, she has chosen the much easier route of capitalizing on her objectification. If a better looking liberal talking head, take Katrina Vanden Heuvel for instance, delivered statements that were inanely controversial ("We all know that Christian fundamantalists jerk off looking at pictures of Jesus Christ!") in a coquettish manner, she'd be invited on every right-wing talk show and suddenly become the darling of the corporate entertainment world, too. But she has self-respect, and Coulter doesn't.

This is an old story, and one that men never seem to tire of recreating.

In order to be in line with its own philosophy, maybe the title of this article should be: "Please Don´t Read This!!!"

Still, if the author feels it has to be said "once and for all", OK, but sooner than later, it´s important to be consistent with one´s views, isn´t it?

Ann Coulter Is An Idiot

I have a confession to make: I read the book "Treason". That's one of my personality quirks: I actually listen to the far right. I devote about an hour a day, each, to Rush and Sean. That way I can comment intelligently on them. Ann Coulter is no exception. Someone I know had the book and I asked if I could borrow it. One thing I'll have to admit is that it's a very easy read - but that is not neccessarily a compliment. Let's face it: Anything written by Ann Coulter is not going to be riddled with complexities, you know what I mean? I read the book in just a few hours.

Here's my challenge: Don't go out and buy the book (Trust me you'll never regret not having done so) But if you happen to be at your local library and they have on their shelves, pick it up. Don't check it out, just pick it up and go to a corner somewhere and sit down with it for about an hour or so. Here's a little game you can play with "Treason" (or anything she ever wrote, I imagine). Go to any page at random and I'll bet you any amount you want to wager that you won't be able to to find, at the very least, one error of fact (or "lie" if you want to get technical). Some pages are literally drenched with lies! But on every page you'll be able to spot at least one. It's a great game and alot of fun! OK, if you happen to see it at a thrift shop or a garage sale it'll be OK to buy it - as a matter of fact, I recommend it. That way, you'll save some poor moron from purchasing it and taking it seriously. Ann won't be able to get an additional royalty so there's no problem. Think of this: When you get bored ewith the game, you'll have the extra added pleasure of burning it!

Here's how Ann Coulter works. If by chance she's does a google search of her name this morning and happens to come accross that last paragraph, she'll go on the Tucker Carlson program tonight and she'll scream, "The liberal readers of AlterNet advocate book burning! Tom Degan even urged readers to buy my books just so they can burn them. You see, Tucker? They're as bad as the Nazis"!

That's how Ann operates. When she was on the road promoting "Treason", she actually went on Hardball with Chris Matthews and implied that Harry Truman was guilty of treason. HARRY FREAKING TRUMAN!!!! In mean, not only is the woman dumber than dogshit, she's nuts! Matthews went over her book piece by piece, pointing out one lie after another, to Ann's great discomfort. She hasn't been on Hardball since. Gee, I wonder why?

Step one, write an article about her and make it the lead article on AlterNet.

Brilliant strategy.

I don't get why anyone would take this "woman" seriously. How can you take a cross between Morticia Adams and a crack whore the slightest bit seriously? She (and I use the term loosely) only wants attention. If you refuse to give her any attention, she will be forced to look in the mirror, and then she will scream in abject horror and either become insane or be forced to do something about her illness.

WTF Don? Listen-most of us sure love your effort but I gotta say, on this one you took a right turn into Gumpland. I read about two paragraphs of this drivel, then took twenty spins of the scroll wheel to reach the bottom--all on a person you told us not to talk about?
Ain't much else I can add to this discussion that hasn't been said far more brilliantly than anything you had to say here, Don, but lordy, I still needed to vent my frustration with your waste of precious progressive space.

Everything That Is Wrong With America

Ann Coulter represents everything that is wrong with America of today. Loud, arrogant and ignorant about the rest of the world and its people. She is completely dismissive and patronizing to those who don't agree with her, she is everything America needs to avoid in the future.

The US is already one of the most hated nations on Earth and has completely squandered its excellent reputation since WW2. Coulter only puts an ugly face onto what many feel is (very unjustly) an ugly country.

...I see the point Hazen is making, but this article sounds as pompous to me as a bunch of Stepford Wives having tea next to the Million Man March.

"Just ignore them. They only want attention."

The poisonwitted femthug who is the subject of this article presents controversial opinions for the sake of drawing attention like a child gently pissing themselves in class, this is correct, but she also presents disinformation as truth, which is where she needs to be hounded. It's not that she's getting attention, it's that she's getting the wrong kind of attention. She should be having people calmly point out the pulp fiction she writes as the product of either a bald-faced liar or someone dumber than a million pound shithammer.

OPEN LETTER TO DON

Dear Don,

As a short jean wearing redhead "with good values who cares about kids, feeding hungry people"

AND who has sent Alternet dozens of OPEDS that have been ignored-
but have been published elsewhere by the Fourth Estate with open minds who desire to serve the public-
I wonder if
YOU have ever considered that
YOU may be a part of the problem by giving so much print to bash those you disagree with, but
NOT print those who challenge your worldview???

We have seen the enemy and he is US!"-Pogo

The following is EXCERPTED FROM WAWA BLOG June 6, 2006

I hear some people are on the lookout today for the devil: 666, although today is 06/06/06 they think today is 666, and they think 666 is the anti-Christ.

What they are is ignorant of-and ignorance does NOT mean stupid-it means not educated; uninformed, and so what they are ignorant of is: biblical scholarship.

The ancients understood the significance of numbers; every letter of the alphabet had a corresponding number. Biblical scholars agree that 666 is the numerical name for Nero.
Televangelists are NOT biblical scholars.

Why liberals cozy up to the ranting right....

It's no surprise that too many fellow liberals cozy up to Coulter and her ilk. It's also no surprise that there is no liberal Coulter...or Savage, for that matter.

First, we all want to be liked so we just can't bring ourselves to say mean and nasty things, even about people we don't like. So, we (God forgive us) actually engage people like Coulter and "discuss" her rather than simply saying something like, "Who gives a damn what that lying bitch says or thinks?"

Second, we especially want to be liked by bullies. We get all warm and fuzzy about stories where the nerd cozied up to the bullies with humor. But where are the stories along the lines of "Yeah, the jocks picked on me but I gathered up some of my buds and we beat the crap out of them. That put a quick stop to it." ?

The article got the predictable "you're doing what you say your against" sniffs from a few fellow liberals who are more interested in "taking the high road", but I appreciated the article. Until we stop trying to make nice with a--holes like Savage and Coulter, we're going to be seen as thin-wristed academics who don't know what the heck we actually stand for. And that's why we lose elections. And when we lose elections...people die.

One of the first items that I read every morning is AlterNet and for me this morning’s column written by Don Hazen was a treat. As the executive editor of AlterNet he has called upon all to ignore you know who as he refers to her as The Tall Blonde Woman In the Short Skirt With the Big Mouth Even I do not have to mention her without his descriptive revealing who she is.

Like so many others in this comment section, I read a few paragraphs to see where the author would present a mea culpa for this topic. Then, I too, began to scroll and scan only to find to my horror that we liberals are too pc to describe this bitch in the terms she deserves.

I spent hours yesterday pouring over interesting articles on Alternet and suggesting them to friends and acquaintances only to be sorely disappointed this morning to find that Alternet is promoting Ann Coulter's new book in such a blatant manner. And you must admit...this article is simply a paid ad to promote her new book.

in America.

It would be nice to be able to ignore her but she is gospel for millions of Americans.

TBB (The Blonde Blowhard) or (That Blonde Bigot) has one useful purpose. She a good barometer of what the Moron-Americans have rolling around in their skulls.
She also presents the Moron-Americans' manifesto in a neat package for easy debunking and ridicule.

But don't mock her because she is stupid, blast her for selling bigotry.

I understand that Bill Maher was drilling her for awhile. What's up with that? Can't he find any non-skank action? Maybe he's trying to make her liberal by injection.

It's just like with James Carville and Mary Matlin, or (more platonically, I hope) Bill Clinton and Sr. Bush. This country doesn't just disappoint and nauseate me, it is confusing as well.

Doesn't she look like an afghan or a saluki? Woof! I'll bet if she rolls over onto her back and someone rubs her belly that her leg starts kicking. Maher might know.

Some of you Alternet people who are appalled by the writings and pronouncements of Ann Coulter are as foulmouthed and vulgar as she is when you strike back at her: a verbal mudslinging contest that gets us nowhere. I bet she has a ball getting at your goat. Even though she certainly would have been a favorite of Adolf Hitler and his band of psychopaths, censoring her is not the best solution. It would be just as bad as banning all books written by the extreme left. Remember Voltaire. I suggest that we give her a job on network or cable news, perhaps Wolf Blitzer's 'The Situation Room', and allow her to run off at the mouth to her heart's content. It would certainly be less predictable, and perhaps more thought provoking, than the pablum that's being offered as informative news on the airwaves every day on the Big Three Networks.

Today, Ann Coulter releases her latest screed: “The Church of Liberalism: Godless.”

I would like to have introduced her to my late grandmother who was a liberal and the most “Godly” person I ever met. But Ann couldn’t shine her shoes.

In that spirit, an EWM ode to Ann:

In Her Dreams: Coulter Converses with God

… I gotta tell you, I’m a kind and forgiving God, but I have a tough time taking in souls with a messiah complex–confuses the Angels you know.”

Oh no God please, don’t cast me into eternal damnation, I’ll be good, I promise!

“Ann, it’s not about the promises, it’s about the deeds. It’s not about who you put down, it’s about who you lift up. Am I getting through to you?”

Yes God, yes. I’ll change. I’ll spread love. I’ll stop gagging myself after eating. I’ll…

You give her too much credit

I was ready to go to work -- just in time to miss what I presumed would be a softball interview -- when I detected a tone to Lauer's questioning. It was glorious to see the shrew squirm, unable to answer behind-the-rhetoric political questions. All hail, Matt!

First, we put her on the Ignore list. Then, it's Bill O'Reilly. Then Sean Hannity. Then the whole of FOX News. Then Pat Robertson and Jack Chick. Before you know it, they're peddling truthiness as fact, we have ID in classrooms, women are forced to give birth at gunpoint and we're the ones being ignored...

...Granted, that's a worst case scenario, but I think you see my point. 8D It's the thin end of the Adam's apple.

Thanks for writing the column - Now I don't have to.

You can't hurt her - By telling people to ignore her - they will pay more attention. Psych 101.
And besides that, if you feel at all attracted to her - just take a look at her Adam's apple - any man would be proud to have that.

She is a bombastic, hateful bitch, and Bill O'Reilly loves her, Hannity too.
Notice how she always grins - like a grinning idiot.
I hate her as much as you do, but I certainly wouldn't give her the satisfaction of printing an article about her.

Ann Coulter makes me wonder: is reincarnation for real?

Now, who said this:

"We are confronted by the endless army, not so much of the deliberately bad as of the mentally lazy and indifferent, including those with a stake in the preservation of the present condition. but precisely in this apparent hopelessness of our gigantic struggle lies the greatness of our task and also the possibility of our success. The battle-cry which either scares away the small spirits at the very start, or soon makes them despair, will be the signal for the assemblage of real fighting natures. And this we must see clearly: If in a people a certain amount of the highest energy and active force seems concentrated upon one goal and hence is definitively removed from the inertia of the broad masses, this small percentage has risen to be master over the entire number. World history is made by minorities when this minority of number embodies the majority of will and determination."

a) Donald Rumsfeld
b) Ann Coultier
c) Adolf Hitler
d) Josef Stalin

Looks like little Annie has that 'real fighting nature'; she doesn't shy away from 'unpleasant necessities'.

P.S. The answer to the above question may be found here.

This is not to diss the work of those who keep an eye on the right, including some of the commenters. But the question is, how to strategically respond? Hazen, did this article need to go here? Wouldn't you be taken more seriously if you talked with the left media guys you mention in person? Or is detoxing from Coulter just a fun metaphor, and not something you actually want to achieve? you couldn't instead have found some woman on the left to spend the words on?

I couldn't see on the "Today" show this AM if her gloven hoofs were shod in Prada, but the devil revealed herself this 6/6/06 as predicted in the form of Ann Coulter. She was allowed to hawk (so to speak) her book on "Today", GODLESS: The Church of Liberalism. Among other gems, she condemned 9/11 widows as millionaire broads who supported Kerry in 2004; she believed Bush is correctly speaking for the majority in his attempts to ban gay marriage; and Bush is doing the right thing by fighting terror in Iraq.

Good grief! Is Coulter the sign that the End Times are upon us?

What I LOVE about Anne Coulter the most is that she believes that her day isn't complete unless she has pissed off most liberals......and damn is she good at it. Fortunately she is young and will more than likely be around a LONG TIME to continue exposing liberal cockroaches to the light of truth. In regards to this article all I can say is that the person most likely to be ignored is Don Hazen. Perhaps Don should try wearing a mini-skirt and becoming a blond. Pointless, useless, simple-minded article that helps nothing, says nothing, gives no useful information about anything.

Ann Coulter will NOT go away as long as the media that made her exists (why not place her in that context right next to O'Reily and Limbaugh), nor will her vanishing have any impact what-so-ever on the state of our union or the state of our distress.

And, please, stop treating us like children. If you write about it, you advertise it and whatever point you're trying to make is lost in the hypocrisy. This isn't highschool anymore.

Coulter is NOT an issue. Please, please, please, AlterNet, start giving us some useful reading instead of these lame, half baked nothing stories about Michael Jackson and Anne Coulter that seek only to pique the same outrage Coulter does and not nearly as well.

she makes a dime.

The empty suits on the right love to threaten boycotts, and call them, so let's call one of our own.

Titler thrives on the people who love to hate her. It stands to reason that we're the ones keeping her alive, because she adds nothing to contemporary thought, and her expressed ideas are obviously simple-minded schoolyard-type provocations designed to get us angry. You think any two right-wing jerk-offs sit around discussing her shitty body of work?

She makes her living because people like Bill Maher like to poke her with a stick and say he survived.

Anybody who puts a dime in Tit's pocket buying one of her books to see what the shitheads are thinking are making three mistakes--the first is obvious, the second would be thinking that she knows or cares, and the third would be the waste of time and life better spent elsewhere.

Let's starve her, starting with an abrupt end, right here, to posting about this article. Every nasty comment puts a tear of joy into that plastic harpy's eye.

Ann Coulter is the poster girl for what's wrong with the political process in America. I cannot for the life of me think of a single person in our Congress who seems to be working towards the good of the most people possible... and that includes some of the folks on the other side of the aisle.

Ignoring Ann Coulter is done at your peril as she has the ears (and eyes) of a lot of the Republican Right Wing. She talks to the darkest corners of their souls where they think of this crap but don't actually say it or write it in public. Her spewings are a good picture of how influential Republicans think... and that can be worthwhile when you're running a campaign.

I hate to think that a fair percentage of American voters think like she does but that's the truth. The rest of us are sick of it. I hope today's primary and this fall's elections send a message to the Republicans. If the results are "business as usual"... we're all in a lot of trouble: the Democrats due to their impotency in getting anything done and Republicans for continuing their work in getting the rest of the world to hate America.

Think that last one is too strong a statement? Look around our world today and count up the international friends we can truly count on.

Thanks, Dubya. Thanks there, GOP. And thank you Ann Coulter for keeping the fires of hatred and partisanship burning so brightly. A grateful nation wallows apathetically in your vision of the future.

Maybe the reason why she is so popular even with liberals is the following:
being evil, tall, blonde and congenitally miniskirted, she is perfect object of rape fantasies.
Guys can be progressive, sensitive yet safely indulge in a bit of daydreaming without feeling too depraved (rip her skirt off caveman, she is a vicious racist neocon!).

People are fascinated with Ann Coulter because, well, she's fascinating. She goes on television and lies her ass off, contradicts herself within the same sentence, then goes ballistic on the poor sucker who dares to point out the contradiction. Because we live in a country that worships this kind of dubious charisma, she enjoys cult leader status among the millions of yokels who take her seriously and shower her with money day and night. You sit there breathlessly wondering how she can get away with it. I mean, you couldn't do that, not in a thousand years. How come this bitch can? It's because she's a sociopath, and truly does not care what other people think of her, nor what the consequences of her words and deeds may be. That is fascinating. Does anyone remember G.G. Allen? He was famous because he raped women on stage and forced them to eat his feces, among other things. It's a similar situation with Ann Coulter.

You will see far more posts on this coulter thread than on the Ehrenreich class war article. Why?

Just read Orwell's 1984. The sheeple masses prefer the Hate-oriented partisan politics.

And look to see what kind of posters post on this thread and do not post on the class war thread. The ones who are the PseudoLiberals, the politically-sort, the race-and-gender-politics crowd are the ones posting on this Coulter thread frothing at the mouth and screaming at coulter. They do not bother to post on the class war article, in general, and they generally do not post on economics articles.

These are the "netroots" activists. They are the ones that generally brought Dean to visibility. They are the worst part of American leftism. All they care about is social issues--race, gender, gay rights, equal pay for women. I will give them that they are generally anti war. And they LOVE a good Two-Minute demonizing some "emmanuel goldstein" boogey man from the "other side."

But they have little concern for middle america. They care about the poor only as long as it is dark skinned poor. THey care far more for foreign poor and illegal immigrants than they do for making life better for the American majority.

They are the heart of the Democratic party.

No wonder the GOP has been able to run rampant, with these sheeple running the Democratic grassroots.

Nobody is more shrill or quick to criticize the trolls on these pages than I. But that, I believe, does not describe Don Hazen (or Joshua Holland who was also recently savaged on these pages for taking a weak position).

I realize that I am on shaky ground for saying so given my willingness to criticize those with whom I disagree without mincing words, but I can't help but feel that the intense negativity here for this article and this man are over the top.

Yes, it's odd and self-contradictory to say "ignore her" and then write a feature piece about her. Nor do I believe that she should be ignored, just not heeded.

But this just feels wrong to me, and I want to apologize to Mr. Hazen for this hostile and possibly embarrassing reception on your own site, if for nothing else, because he and others at Alternet have allowed me a wide degree of lattitude in expressing myself, and I feel that I owe that same favor back in return.

“To Coulter” (verb; also nascent social virus):

To vomit up (like a bulimic feline who has swallowed too many hairballs) a bile of baseless, fact-free political rhetoric and hate at everything left of Atilla the Hun or the Grand Inquistor (especially evil Liberals and godless Secularists) for the purpose of inflaming the venom and unbridled vitriol of
Joe Six Packs, Jane Rednecks, George Survivalists and John Unilateralists.

Often accompanied by a sudden loss of gray matter, a corresponding emotional anorexia and a tendency to contradict reality.

Sometimes thought to be a variation of “Maggie Thatcherism” with legs, though absent a heart.

May orginate in reptile world; destination unknown; hopefully to be deep-sixed after the next November auctions (formerly known as elections).

Any other time, people would be appalled at the level of vitriol aimed in her general direction. As women we should be angry that some challenge her gender simply because she's a female version of Rush Limbaugh. However, Ms. Coulter doesn't deserve anyone's sympathy for she's a symptom of everything that's so wrong with political discourse these days. Frankly I find her pathetic - a problem child in search of attention from daddy figures.

Ignoring her would probably make her go away, but I suggest that we liberals stop trying to play nice with these rabid folks and start going toe to toe with them. Dr. Julianne Malveaux could easily send Coulter packing with her tail between her legs, but many liberals would come down on Dr. Malveaux for being 'an angry black woman'. Dr. Cornel West literally shut down William F. Buckley in a debate several years ago - handling Coulter would be a piece of cake. Rep. Maxine Waters would eat Coulter for breakfast and belch (ladylike of course) afterwards.

It seems most of the posters here (I didn't read them all) are only too happy to display their cleverness at having caught you in what is the all-too-obvious (and thus really not worth discussing) hypocrisy of this article. However, I feel it must be said that while this article went on a little too long (perhaps underlining Don's point about the our shared obsession with this ridiculous cartoon woman?), this is a good article that has a very good point to it.

The point is: we have had enough of this crazy blonde. It isn't enough to just be fed up with her inanity, but we, as humans, must have some "ritual closing" of the case - and this article provides just that. As of reading this article (ok... as of writing this post) I vow to never talk to another person about the TBW. I will not read another single word of another article about her. If she appears on a show that I am watching, I will change the channel. If I see a video on salons video dog of her sparring with Matt Lauer that looks like it might be really funny to watch, I'll skip it instead. She isn't worth my time and when someone resorts to the tactics she does, the only intelligent response is to better use your time doing ANYTHING other than paying attention to her.

Thanks Don, I needed that slap. And don't think I didn't appreciate the irony of your all-too-obvious hypocrisy too. Let me know if you need a sponsor to help you through the 12 steps.

Actually, I really used to love it when Chris Matthews used to let Ann and Katrina loose on each other on "Hardball." Katrina is one of the only liberal talking heads truly ready and able to rumble and the only person who could shut Ann (BBH)up. I'm more than ready to leave that person and start a Katrina Van Heuval fan club.

Not to be confused with PROSTITUES who are generally just decent working women. Therefore, if this is what Americans conciders one of the 100 most influential people that can mean only one thing...We are in some deep, deep shit. Man, is this Nation dying for a hero or what? I couldn't disagree more. We've seen what happens when a political party ignores problems hoping they'll just go away. If we are to defeat the surge of right-wing extremism in our nation, we can't be infuriated, rather, we need to be united, motivated, and disciplined. Ann Coulter wants us divided, so we turn her into a symbol of our unity.

I say we start making all her efforts work for us instead of against us. Use her as a "poster child" for what's wrong with this nation and why we need to come together to fix it. After all, who better to get more people on the left motivated enough to stand united against the continuous attacks from the right?

The more I think about it, the more I figure we should turn her into our hero, the more we talk her up as an asset to the left, the smaller and smaller her voice will suddenly become.

To Love Coulter is to Love America

I love Anne Coulter, America and you should too.

America is such a great country that no matter what comedy routine Anne is practicing today, her free speech is guaranteed.

America is such a great country that we have the luxury to sit and be entertained by Ms. Coulter through television, books, and radio.

Now if we lived in a country suffering famine or genocide and we ourselves were without food, water, shelter, we wouldn't have the resources or time or inclination to be entertained by Ms. Coulter.

But sitting at our Gateway laptops, we allow ourselves to be shocked...kind of like going up the steep ramp of a roller coaster and suddenly falling falling screaming....throwing our hands in the air, and when it is all over we get on the ride again. "Did you hear what she said today?"

Liberals love to hate Ms. Coulter, because sometimes it proves how pointless her platform is. It is pointless because by her own admission she says things only for the shock value and to entertain. Rarely are conservatives coming to her rescue. Why should they? It isn't real, it's a red herring. She is booked on shows because so many men salivate to a powerful woman saying shocking things. She'd do better maybe if she were in black spandex with a whip, but she does just fine in short skirts. Come on admit it finally, you like it. No, don't admit it. Her sales and bookings can do all the talking. Liberals love to hate Coulter because it is kind of like an episode of "Yo Momma" except that the liberal never has the guts to say one thing back as insulting as the comments that Coulter says. She is fearless. She has no shame. Poor liberal with your mouth hanging wide open, getting all worked up about nothing.

What I would love to see is Ms. Coulter and the comedian Monique go head to head. Ms. Coulter would call Monique a welfare queen and Monique would call Ms. Coulter a skinny white (you know) and back and forth. What does any of this have to do with the democratic process of our country? Not much, it just goes to show that free speech is guaranteed.

Now if anybody wants to seriously debate what Ms. Coulter, Monique, or any of the contestants on Yo Momma is saying on a particular day....or elect any of these people to office, or take their opinions seriously before making a decision at the ballot box....America does not require an IQ test to get your voter ID...knock yourself out.

Everytime you rant and rave, all it says to the media decision makers is that they should book her more often, bring her up somehow...etc. It's kind of like bending over and begging for another swat from Coulter Phi Coulter. "ooooh may I please have another." "aaah may I please have another." Ms. Coulter is going to help you by continuing to give you what you ask for until you are satisfied. I love America because people are able to actually take her seriously and still be allowed to vote. What a great country! America is so great that people who take her seriously are allowed to have good jobs, and internet access and lots of free time to help her sell more books by oohing and aahing over her every syllable. Be glad you are not in Darfur or somewhere else where people have more serious things to worry about. To love Ms. Coulter is to Love America. But I tell you what, Monique would be asked to sit next to Ms. Coulter faster than we'd find Inga La Gringa debating her. Inga is just as shocking as Coulter, but instead of being the Liberal version of Coulter, the things that La Gringa mention are real world issues. You've never heard of her right?

I don't like Ann Coulter. Why? Because she joined up for the right team and now I'm sure she knows it's the wrong team. (but then so are the Dems the wrong team).

So even though she knows she's championing a monster (i.e GWB), she does it anyway.

Why? Because the liberals are just as bad as she makes them out to be, and because they are such an easy target.

Look at the liberals on this site. Too scared to come out and say 9/11 was an inside job, even though 50 percent of the American people, according to Zogby, say that it is.

Liberals are selfish, cowardly, hipocritical, amoral creeps. Ann is right. But then, so is she because she won't come out and stand up against the neoCONs.

She's just another one who sold their soul for a day in the sun.

There's a certain rumor that goes around about the woman I'll refer to as Blondie. I think you now what I'm talking about; the dick-dock and the snatch-patch. I'll say no more.

Now, I want you to know I understand. God KNOWS I understand the need to tear down such a smug, arrogant and ill-informed rich white trash Tower of Babel. And it feels SOOOO good, doesn't it? After being rendered furious and incredulous by hate-filled bile, to let out some of your own. Oftimes, I've done it myself, and God knows the Blonde herself is quick to resort to cheap shots.

However, I think it follows an offshoot of Godwin's Law. As SOON as the subject is brought up, the conversation is over, and becomes a shouting match. It's like Santorums jar-foetus or Chappaquiddick. I'd rather stick to her lies and dissemination.

what ann did wrong, what she did right

What Ann Coulter did wrong:

Calling 9-11 widows "witches," and saying they were enjoying their newfound celebrity.

What she did right:

Pointing out that using victims of such tragedies as "bulletproof" poster boys or girls for making attacks on political opponents is dirty fighting.

To be specific, when people like George Soros use a grieving mother like Cindy Sheehan as a club to beat up on George Bush. The fact that she is a grieving mother doesn't make her immune to the criticism that she is a useful idiot for Move on.org.

The same rule applies when Soros and Move On.org use the grief of the 9-11 widows as a club to beat up on the President. Their grief doesn't make them immune to criticism that they are also shills for the "I hate Bush" crowd.

I don't care for Bush either, but such shameless exploitation of grieving mothers and wives for policital gain is still wrong. And that includes you, David Letterman. Yes O'Reilly is a blowhard and an arrogant prick, but cheap-shotting the man on national television over Cindy Sheehan, was mean-spirited and yes, fighting dirty.

I don't care whether it's George Soros or Karl Rove who exploits the grief of others, I don't like it. The ends don't justify the means.

The real problem with this county is that people are not encouraged to be political individuals. Its alot easier to manipulate votes when you round up people into 2 large groups. Please, for god's (for lack of a better term) sake, transcend this horrible political dichotomy. If people were focused on being humans first, in the moment emotional and needy creatures, and respected each other's basic emotional and physical needs, and realized that ideas are not personal, yet just optional and arbitrary notions for fufilling those same emotional and phyisical needs that we all share equally, then perhaps we could enter political discourse with a saner tone, with respect for each other, and a sense that ideas are just things that we together as people can work with and play with to form a beautiful outcome that all can enjoy. Ideas don't do any harm, people do. Ideas come and go. If people weren't so attached to ideas, we could find solutions to problems much easier. Ideaology on either side can get in the way of humanity. Ann Coulter is an example of tight, sour person. Ideas are just ideas; her ideas are not the issue. The fact is that as a person, her character lacks warmth, the essential element for the fufillment of human needs. There are lots of people on the left who are stiff, dry, dull....these are the things that matter, what type of person who are. Work on being a warm, healthly person, and then we can freely discuss ideas and come to consensus.

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ANALYSIS

Neo-Nazi Ann Coulter presents a challenge to BuzzFlash.

She is a self-promoter who knows controversy sells books. To this freakish right wing shock bigot, all news coverage is good news coverage because it publicizes her books -- and she makes more money. And it increases her fees on the speaking circuit.

So, do you cover her in BuzzFlash or ignore her?

We've thought about this dilemma quite a bit, and have decided ignoring her would be like pretending Goebbels didn't exist around 1932.

When she saw the 6/6/06 full-page ad in the New York Times for Ann Coulter's new property, my wife asked who Ms. Coulter might be.

I said, "Ann Coulter is the richest female impersonator in the United States. She's in the fantasy business, and she makes a lot of money, working very hard. A little like a hooker, poor old thing. She's not very funny, but the people she entertains are not noted for their sense of humor.

"What I have just told you might not be true, but is a fair example of the type of hatchet work she does. Stick to Eddie Izzard if you want honesty or a good laugh. You see, she's not as fine looking as Izzard, and she doesn't dress as well, and her makeup's not as good, so she compensates by spewing hyperbolic nasties. Think kind thoughts about her if you can; she has a lot to overcome."

Good marketing strategy: Be totally out there and everyone will pant to have you in their news.

Don is right, don't cater to others when you are horrified by their behavior. The person doing it loves seeing their name in the news. I just wonder when life is going to deal Ann a personal tragedy and see her squirm. Where will her supporters be? Will she have any?

I have often pondered the psychological source of Coulter's insanity. I think she is sexually aroused by war, sado-masochism, and macho/bullying, alpha male types. She is one of these repressed women with huge daddy issues who blames liberals of all types and feminists for the reason there aren't any REAL men around anymore. The "left's" call for sensitivity, reflectiveness, "good listeners", and getting in touch with the male feminine side has frustrated her search for the macho bullies she finds sexy. She has given highly sexualized descriptions of US Marine casualties who in life epitomised her sich idea of "American Masculinity" as being aggressive, undaunted, forthright and stalwart, and fearless in the face of death". There are always ready to defend the women and children while the proverbial "savages" are "circling the wagons." The Left has driven these guys into hiding.

There are other female columnists like this such as Orlando, FLA's Kathleen Parker, whose zombie-like smile and glossed over eyes make her look like a tranced out religious zealot or a patron of the local methadone clinic. She lovingly describes a US Army commanding officers who reported "spits tacks" and is not the "read 'em their rights and book 'em" type. Much like Dirty Harry, he has his day made by a chance to put these evil doers on ice! Parker goes on to compare this individual's "manliness" to the wimpy liberal types who are ineffectual when it comes to stickin' up fer the wimmin folk of Afghanistan against these Taliban roughnecks! This guy 'el show 'em how ta treat a lady!!!!

Women like this are havin' major daddy issues and projecting it on society at large. I agree with Dan that we should ignore them.

So now we are writing about people writing about Coulter - a kind of grad school discussion, with secondary sources taking the fore. I guess thats a step in the right direction. But pretending she doesn't exist isn't the answer either - acknowledge her existence, do not acknowledge her intentionally corrosive, anatognistic and bilious statements, and then move on. She's like a mosquito - swat and move on.

My take on Coulter is that she is probably a "Functioning Sociopath". Any psychologists out there that might want to comment on her mental state?
