Tuesday, Bloody Tuesday

Today's predicament: worry about forced childbirth, children killed in Iraq, and Gonzales plugging away for torture or just focus on the earth getting zapped by a huge solar storm in six years.

After much careful consideration, I've decided to postpone worrying about the huge solar cycle in 2012 that will "hurl at Earth mammoth solar storms with intense radiationand clouds of high-speed subatomic particles millions of miles across." After all, there's not much I can do about it but get all my air travel plans out of the way early and perhaps find a nice deep cave somewhere so I can homeshool my then-nine-year-old daughter.

Instead, I've decided to focus on today's problems that I can at least do something, however small, about.

First on today's agenda: South Dakota's all-encompasing abortion ban. While some have suggested sending coat hangers and the like to the people responsible ( Bill Napoli being the worst), I don't really think that'll do much. And boycotting South Dakota won't work because not many people really go there anyway. So what's a person to do? Since the whole thing is going to take a lot of lawyers and such, it's not a bad time to support Planned Parenthood, which will be doing some of the work to fight the ban. Both Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice America also suggests writing to your governor, strongly demanding he or she protect abortion rights in your state. They'll even send it for you.

Next up, once I catch my breath: Reminding our Attorney General about the definition of torture.
