Bush knew (video)

As Matt points out, three things are notable in this astonishing/not astonishing VIDEO of pre-Katrina briefings.

First, the obvious. Bush is warned that Katrina is just as powerful as Andrew but much larger. He's warned that nobody knows whether the levees will hold and that it could be disastrous if they don't.

Second, the tone of the AP story. There's no he said/she said BS to be found. No pussyfooting around. The video shows Bush being warned, followed by "the seeming contradiction" on ABC where he peddles his stock "nobody could've predicted" (9/11, Katrina, that hair grows, the sun rises in the East, green means go...).

Third, that we owe Mike Brown a bit of an apology. The man did tell Bush that he felt "in his gut" that this was "the big one" and that they needed to prepare for it.

Bush, who watched the whole briefing by video, looked at everyone in the eye and told them he'd provide all the "resources and assets" at his disposal to help out and that we were prepared. He looked them in the eye. (AP)
