Antisemitic double standard in Right Wing press
Much of the Right Wing press -- Newsmax, TownHall, and others -- are more than happy to jump all over claims of antisemitism when it suits them. They've (correctly) noted the words of Iran's president, and (incorrectly) accused Virginia Dem Jim Moran and Hillary Clinton of antisemitism. They are staunch supporters of Ariel Sharon and the Israeli Right.
Yet when it comes to Mel Gibson, there's a free pass. More than a free pass even -- a vigorous defense.
Let's even forget the movie for a minute which, cherry-picking like the Bush administration, created an abominable portrait of a death cult Christianity from the Rashomon-like Gospels.
The latest has Mel donating "$5 million of his The Passion of the Christ profits to expanding a religious compound near Malibu for Catholics who reject Vatican II reforms." As well as a bunch more to other Vatican II rejectionists across the nation.
Now, the fact that this was largely done at the behest of his father, Holocaust revisionist and loony toons of the highest order (9/11 was done by remote control, not by Saudis!!), Hutton Gibson, doesn't change the fact that he too is a supporter of a church that rejects the Vatican II reforms as an anti-Catholic conspiracy by Masons and Jews.
And what are those Vatican II reforms? Well, according to NewsMax's Carl Limbacher, they were, um, about "the abandonment of Latin in the Mass." Yeah, I'm sure that's what touched off the church cleavage and a firestorm of antisemitic hoo-haw.
Or maybe it was the rejection of the official charge of blood libel against the Jews underpinning 1500 years of anti-Jewish violence.
But the disingenuous staffers at these Right Wing outfits don't care about Jews or antisemitism or even Israel. Their goal is promotion of the Bush doctrine, pure and simple.
