Jane Hamsher says that something went terribly wrong with NARAL and the Alito confirmation battle. How could one organization raise so much money and accomplish so little?

Now we see the fruits of NARAL's controversial decision to endorse "pro-choice" Republican Lincoln Chaffee over an anti-abortion Democrat. Using the oldest and most craven bait-and-switch in American politics, Chaffee pledged to vote against Alito, but voted against the filibuster, too. In the most important abortion-related vote of his career, Chaffee voted to end debate on Sam Alito's nomination, killing the filibuster and parking a hardcore pregnancist on the bench for life.

At Matt Stoller does a scathing postmortem on the confirmation battle. Find out how NARAL, PFAW, and the rest of us could have done it right.
