The Mix

Countdown to SOTU

How to make it through the night...
What can we expect from tonight's address? Well, really, what could our President possibly say to change the facts? Even the White House knows the score. Spokesman Scott McClellan stated, "This is more of a visionary and directional speech than it is a laundry list of proposals. It's more thematic in nature."

Right. Visionary. Do Americans really want to hear about the President's visions right now? If you want to be prepared for the (unfortunately) inappropriate optimism the President is expected to express about his battle-weary agenda, head over to the Center of American Progress and read "What Bush Will Say, What You Should Know."

And for those of you who want to drown your sorrows, at least be occasion-specific. Read the rules of the SOTU Drinking Game 2006. (Favorite: anytime "fiscal discipline" is mentioned, "laugh out loud, then drink.") Yup, if you're not a fan of irony, it might be best to steer clear of tonight's SOTU address.
