Conflicting stories: the AP reports that Rhode Island Republican Lincoln Chafee will vote against Alito, but isn't supporting the filibuster. Meanwhile, the Young Turks, in the midst of their on-air filibuster, are reporting that Chaffee has signalled he will vote against cloture. stay tuned and keep calling!

Also, keep in mind that nervous Dems don't need to vote against cloture, they can abstain. It's not that we need 41 votes against, they need 60 votes to cut off debate. The message we should be sending is: lead, follow or simply get out of the way by abstaining.

Democrats.com is constantly updating.

UPDATE: Chafee is "undecided." Also, there are a couple of posts here that say the whip count is 37 supporting the filibuster. That's not really accurate; Dick Durbin said he had tallied 37 votes in an interview late last week, but hasn't released any names. So far, 19 have definitely committed. And counting. Keep it up!

The debate's on C-Span 2 right now.
