Spitball w/ Chris Matthews

Chris Matthews on Osama Bin Laden's critique of American war profiteers [VIDEO]: "I mean he sounds like an over the top Michael Moore here, if not a Michael Moore."

In an alternate, apolitical universe Chris Matthews' comments are just plain stupid. At a dinner party you'd just giggle at the wind tunnel with the single-digit IQ. But when a popular talking head show host blurts it out, something has to be done.

As Peter Daou put it: "Remember: This is not just about Chris Matthews or Michael Moore or Osama Bin Laden, it's about the willingness of a prominent media figure to slander an opponent of the war."

Because MSNBC provides no space for public comments, a blog called "An Open Letter to Chris Matthews" was launched this morning. It reads, in part:

"You owe Michael Moore, and the American public you serve as a journalist, an apology... MSNBC doesn't allow public feedback on its web site. This blog does. Please keep commentary civil, but do let Chris Matthews know what you are thinking."

BooMan writes: "If Usama bin Laden occassionally opines on some of the more obvious shortcomings of our President, that doesn't make him like Michael Moore. It just means he isn't a total fucking idiot, like Chris Matthews." To wit, he pulls out some Chris Matthews doosies:

"sometimes it glimmers with this man, our president, that kind of sunny nobility." [Hardball, 10/24/05]

"Everybody sort of likes the president, except for the real whack-jobs, maybe on the left." [Hardball, 11/28/05]

6.) "It depicts legitimate opposition to the war as treasonous."

"You'd think the only focus tonight would be on destroying Osama Bin Laden, not comparing him to an American who opposes the war whether you like him or not. You want a real debate that America needs? Here goes: If the administration had done the job right in Tora Bora we might not be having discussions on Hardball about a new Bin Laden tape..."
