Ladies and Gentlemen: The Real George W. Bush

By Stephen Pizzo, News for Real. Posted October 27, 2005.

Ninety percent of Americans believe the Bush administration is guilty of illegal or unethical behavior in the CIA leak case. Where does that leave our president?

For three more years America is going to be led by not just a lame duck president, but a totally discredited president.

In a poll conducted Oct 21-23 and released on Tuesday, 90 percent of those asked said they believed top Bush administration officials are guilty of either illegal or unethical behavior in the CIA leak case.

So where does that leave an un-indicted George W. Bush? There really are only two explanations, and neither reflect well on him. First, he can claim his closest aides conspired behind his back while he was otherwise occupied. I call that the "Exxon Valdez Defense" -- the captain was not at the helm when a careless crewman ran the ship of state aground. Unfortunately for Captain Bush, that defense did not wash for the real captain of the ill-fated tanker. Because, you see, the captain is always responsible.

The other explanation is worse: that the President of the United States knew what was going on, maybe even participated in it.

Either way, Bush is finished as a force in American politics. How he ever got to become president in the first place -- not once, but twice -- will remain a subject social scientists will study and debate for decades to come. Because there was plenty of evidence that George W. Bush was a made man. He had accomplished nothing in his adult life on his own -- not one thing. (Click here for more.)

Of course, for those of us who have covered the Bush family for years, it's no mystery at all. The best way to think of George W. Bush is as a beard for others. At every step in his career, individuals of wealth or power groomed him, and then used him as their front man.

These benefactors had learned long ago that there was more money and more power to be had in the shadows than in the limelight. All they needed was the right person to front for them -- someone with a name, a smile, a confident swagger. Vision, dreams, hopes and ethics were not only unnecessary, but liabilities in a beard. All they needed was a person they could program, wind up and send out into the public spotlight and deliver for them.

That's George W. Bush. He fit the bill to a T. Texas oil men -- and companies with international agendas and voracious appetites for government contracts -- had found their perfect front man in GW: a kind of Forrest Gump from the Dark Side. A man ignorant and proud of it, and willing to take direction from those he considered friends.

They began by nurturing Bush's pathetic efforts to become a high-rolling Texas oil man. Though his companies failed, they made sure he never did. Then they were able to further his ascendancy by indulging his playful side, buying him his own baseball team -- a Texas baseball team. That raised Bush's public profile to just a notch below their ultimate goal: public office.

Fully groomed and programmed, they finally steered Bush towards the goal. And it worked, probably beyond their wildest expectations. As governor of Texas, their beard kept state regulators out of their hair on dollar and cents issues critical to the oil drilling and processing industries, like air quality. That alone would have been sufficient payoff for their years of cleaning up Bush's business messes.

Bagging the United States presidency was an unexpected super-bonus. Still, they knew it was a development ripe with as much danger as opportunity. After all, they knew the real George W. Bush. There was no way they could send that hayseed off to the Big Show unattended. Dick Cheney and Karl Rove were tasked with keeping their idiot prince both on message and on a short leash. God forbid he should ever make a speech, take a position, or make a decision on his own.

All went very well for the first four years. From day one, their boy delivered, delivered and delivered again. He was a gift that just kept giving:

  • $1.6 trillion in tax cuts, the bulk of which went to people like them;
  • Environmental laws watered down; expanded logging allowed in national forests
  • A push to open protected Alaska wilderness to oil and gas drilling;
  • Iraqi oil fields suddenly within reach;
  • Plenty of cheap labor flooding across our southern border.

And just as it looked as if he was on the way to fulfilling another assignment -- the elimination of the estate tax -- his beard fell off. It was the thing they had always feared most: the real George W. Bush went public. There it was, for the whole world to see: a chuckling, twitching dope of man standing in front of the American people, unleashed and unscripted. Worse yet, he was making his own decisions. He chose his friend and admirer, Harriet Miers, for the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

What went wrong? Where were his handlers? Busy. They dropped Bush's leash when handed subpoenas. Junior was unleashed and home alone.

It's a moment new to America -- a leader who needs to be led, and now unled. And the world is watching. It's as if the police had come and dragged Edgar Bergin offstage in the middle of a show, leaving Charlie McCarthy, wide-eyed, mouth agape and slumped alone on his stool.

So, what now?

I would say the Hurricane really was a big slip that proceeded the Miers nomination. He flat did not care, nor did his government care. The war is pretty telling here too. Cindy Sheehan decide to use slow news month of August for her protest at Crawford. The war was front and center for several weeks. All these things helped bring us to this moment or so I think.

What a great article/op ed. Its priceless. I am cutting and pasting this one for posterity. It really does show what really is with this guy and those who handle him. I am still chuckling.

The question I have is "how are we going to stop all this" quickly before the damage cannot be undone. Or maybe its too late already. P

Bush Writes his own Speech

My fellow Americans

I called this press conference today to proudly announce that America is about to launch a project that will cement our superiority in space for all time. Weapons in space will be a small step for America. Landing an American on Mars will be a giant step for the Bush legacy. Well, today it is with pride and joy that I inform you that the Bush administration is restarting the NASA program with the ultimate objective of landing an American Astronaut on the planet Mars. Russia and China can longer compete with us. The message I wish to pass on to Russia and China is: eat your heart out.

I have ordered NASA and all those industries involved in the space program to retool and gear up for the challenge ahead of us. Vice President Cheney and Donald Rumsfield now have proven ability in planning a large long-term project and as a result I have decided to name them as co-directors in this new undertaking.

As I consider this project an important part of my legacy along with planting the seeds of democracy in so many countries and implementing social and economic reforms that benefit those who matter, I am renaming the National aeronautical Space Agency or NASA the Bush Aeronautical Terrestrial Texas Yankee. All future generations will know who is responsible for BATTY.

Now many of my critics in the Democratic Party and in the media have accused me of allocating funds for a project that may never get off the ground and that will cause an astronomical deficit. I would like to say to my critics that you are wrong as usual. Batty will create thousands of jobs for years to come. I think it is appropriate to mention now that many of these jobs will go to Ohio and, of course, Florida. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to these states for giving me the opportunity to launch this project. I
thank the American people for their support and trust.

I feel privileged and honored to have been your president and I know that you will be better off for years to come as a result off the progressive and socially just policies of my two administrations. Finally, I urge you to support a constitutional amendment that I will be introducing soon to allow my good friend Arnold to carry on with my good work.

Thank you and God bless.

Forget Charlie McCarthy. He’s “our” president for three more years. I’m much more concerned about where this leaves us. This idiot has his finger on the button to launch a nuclear war.

So, what now?

Pardon me while I quiver and quake. Likewise excuse my sweaty palms. So why am I nervous?

At the end of the current term, the puppet meisters will face the total loss of their front man. Now that will be a terrible loss that we can bet they are not going to let happen. Here are some possible scenarios:

1. Another 9/11 that happens at just the right moment that allows the current Administration to freeze all elections and stay in power until the "new terrorist threat" is put down. This is known as the "Reichstag Ploy."

2. A magical repeal of the present term limits on the Office of President. Considering the continual decline of public support for the Bush Administration this will be tough to get through.

3. The newly rigged Supreme Court rules that the U. S. Constitution is null and void and declares GWB as King George I of America. Hand in hand with Ayatollah Robertson, King George declares the new Divine Right of Kings. He immediately appoints Dick Cheney as the Chancellor of the Torquemada Council which will seek out and dispel all liberals from the land.

Feel free to come up with your own scenarios. You have got 2 years and some months to devise one or two.

Maybe we will have to take to the streets like they did in the Ukraine, the next time they try to fix our elections, instead of going like sheep to the slaughter! It is fortunate that the polls are finally turning around, and people are becoming wiser to the ways of this "idiot in thief!" We must capitalize on this knowledge, and push our wimpy Democratic party to take action, or else leave them in the wind to begin something new and better!

GW is just veneer and a new shill can always be found in plenty of time for the next election. Even if the party as a whole loses ground, the same shadowy cabal will be at work behind whatever scenery is visible. Corporatism and the Gospel of Great wealth will not go up in smoke with the reputation of one bumbler.

And the real players know good and well that we are pre-occupied with a host of other interests that take precedence in our lives. Sex, sports, reality TV, re-tooling our lives around each new generation of gadgets, materialism - you name it.

We make choices at election time based on reasoning that can be fully expressed in 10 words or less. It may still come down to advertising budgets, presentation, framing and blaming, catchy phrases and downright sloganeering.

Preach, Brother Pizzo, Preach!

Current rating: Not yet rated    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Oh My!

This is like manna from heaven. Right when we figured that this administration would slide on EVERYTHING, finally someone's attempting accountability - and it couldn't have come too soon! Preach, Brother Pizzo, preach! He is wrong on one small point though: there's NO doubt as to how he got into power. It was election rigging and Supreme Court abuse, pure & simple!

Oceanye and Pepper are so right: THIS article is perhaps the best thing I've ever read on the subject, and it MUST be shared with everyone who can read. Send it to your liberal friends, yes, but ALSO send it to those still somehow sitting on the fence AND to every smug Neo-Con you've ever argued with. Send it with grace, not 'I-told-you-so' comeuppance, because nothing rings sweeter than pure truth.

ShaSpirit is also right, and it's ironic that W's final undoing began with a female tri-fecta: Cindy, Katrina, & Harriet. Clinton's glowing White House record was also tarnished by women, and he was then impeached for his crimes. Yes, lying at this level IS a crime (even if the questions he lied about should never have been asked) and Bill was censured accordingly. but not deposed. At least we remembered that there are varying degrees to 'crimes'.

'W' should not get off so easily. His spin masters WILL regroup, and they'll do their best to spin, threaten, explain, deny, and play victim. But we cannot let then off so easily. This smug, arrogant administration has ruined the future of our children AND their children! For them, we MUST move forward with ALL accountability and indict and impeach. Yes, IMPEACH!

Clinton was impeached (but not punished) on principal. Nixon had the class to resign to avoid impeachment (and tainting the Oval office). Bush's crimes are FAR worse than either of these examples, & has zero regard for the legacy of the Office. He’ll need to have accountability thrust upon him.

Riverside's comments (The Next Page) are ominous - heed them well, children. This administration is not above obvious, deplorable acts to retain the power hold. Maybe it's the time for a more 60s-like response of nonviolent outrage. Get off-line, get out there, and get involved!

MnMnM wrote about important Google sites. Try Googling the word 'FAILURE' and note the top response. Soonerthought said what I've been saying for years: The emperor has no clothes! And believe me, it ain't pretty!

This is a fine piece about the why and how of George W. Bush's ill-fated reign. The man is an empty vessel who has done immense harm to our country and the world. He should go down with Hoover and Coolidge and maybe US Grant as one of the worst US President's in our history. On the other hand, W. is the perfect front man for the conservative right. Maybe people will wake up and do something, now that the real Bush has been fully exposed for what he is.

Of course WilsonGate is the sand in their shoes, but then GW decides to install a bun sniffing sycophant in the SC. Very accomodating of him to provide us with such lasting imagery.

When I was in jr. high there were guys who would holler out at the most opportune moment "Slick move, ex-lax!"

So his legacy will include psychic nukes, Rumpsmell for the Defense, Iraqis greeting us with flowers, ignoring the news & creating reality, retalliation against anyone with the nerve to tell the truth after they've lied and sworn to it, hurricanes that happen against his plans and skivies at half-mast.

That's my greatest worry. With Cheney and Rove soon to be gone, the Perle's and Wolfowitz's are sitting there ready to take the reins of this ignorant prick. And what they want is to turn the American military against Iran or any other Arab government stable enough to maintain a standing army. So get prepared to fight for Israel everybody. That's your new mandate for being a patriot. The religious right sees Zion as part of destiny for the Second Coming and is actively engaged in aligning with Likud and the Israeli religious far-right against the existence of Palestine (or any Arab group in fact).
Yup. It's off to the holy wars with you lot. You get the government you deserve, so either get rid of the neocons or suffer the consequences of allowing them to maintain their position of power.

George Bush learned early that messes were for others to clean up. Family influence got him into the National Guard and out of failed businesses. He came to office with little more on his resume than being saved and sober and possessed a world-view based on bumper stickers.

Bush is pathologically incapable of accepting reality and substitutes certitude for sensible mid-course adjustment. He’s so arrogant that he’s alienated virtually all of the 95 percent of this planet’s inhabitants that don’t reside in the good old USA–to say nothing of over half of those that do.

To call Iraq a quagmire does a great disservice to swamps. Bush and his neocon Coalition of the Shilling sold us a pig in a poke. There were no weapons or 9-11 connections and it wasn’t for free and 2,000 Americans died for a cause that evolves every time the previous lie is discredited. And that stunt on the aircraft carrier was straight out of Dr. Strangelove.

What on Earth would lead us to believe that he will learn from his mistakes. He's incapable of admitting them.

Whew, I feel better now.

I don't think so. This administration is supported by two groups that have aims that do not conflict. The religious right will vote Republican as long as they can keep up the Christian facade. They do not care about money. The rich will vote Republican as long as they keep shoveling money at them. They don't care about the religion. Unless the Democrats come up with real issues that will grab the attention of the cynical and disillusioned that have been shunning elections, they're toast again. A new idea

A great article.... The Coporatization of our democracy is the cancer on our bodypolitic, it's time to change this!!!! This is where it needs to begin. If we continue to let corporation assert person-hood as their right, nothing will change.

In today's speech, Bush once again hit the nail right beside the head. He claims that we weren't in Iraq when we were attacked on 9/11, neglecting to mention that we were in Saudi Arabia, Osama bin Laden's Holy Land, and that we had been warned repeatedly to get out. 9/11 was the second attack on the WTC, and just maybe we'll start listening to warnings in the future. Nah, that's way too logical for this administration.

Now that Harriet has withdrawn her nomination, I wonder who's gonna represent the "Bush camp" in this fiasco? Guess I'll Have to read about it in the "strange but true" section of "Ripley's believe it or not"...

Ha! I had to laugh at this.

While the Fitzgerald announcement was being made.... while still spilling out all the damning facts about what went on by the WHIG to counter their detractors, they still tried to deflect attention.
First Cheney went on air live at another location from Fitz, no doubt hoping to divert the major networks audio feed over to him where he was cheering up troops and generally waving the flag. But no. Cheney was relegated to a box in the corner of the screen. Fitz kept on skewering the WH. So Bush himself decided to get on air live. You think the audio feed would surely go to Bush, right ? Ha!! Bush become a box in the other corner!
So there we had a prosecutor, indicting the WH in effect, and on both sides of the screen were the two most powerful mouths in the world, flapping away silently without any audio. It was a moment to savour! The President and the Vice-President of the USA both "mini-ed", both without audio, all just so we could watch our main-man, Fitzgerald, detail how sleazy they both are (not literally but by inference of course). I loved it!!

Maybe you had to be there, but it was one of those "moments" that just seemed so full of great metaphorical significance.

Mycos

Libby works for Cheney..
Cheney works for Bush..
Rove works for Bush..
Bush is supposed to work for us but not really..
Bush reads bad intel in state of the union address..
Ambassador Wilson investigates and declares Bush info as misinformation..
They hate bad PR and start a spin..
I can just hear Cheney saying "Fukem"(refering to Wilson/Plame)..
Documents and reports are falsified, leaks are made to right people and the spin unfolds..

IT'S THE WHOLE DAMN OFFICE !!!

So what happens if the top guys all go down? If there is an impeachment, who succeeds to the presidency? I think it was dubbed "Jacksonian democracy": when you get mad at the Republicans, vote for the Democrats. Then when you get mad at the Democrats, you have the Republicans to vote for. I expect there will be some other somewhat corrupt cabal in line, but at least it will be hard for them to be quite so nutty and inept as this here one.

The Real George Bush?

Well the trinity of the real George Bush is ME/MYSELF/I. It's my favorite trinity too. It works too. Try it, you might like yourself better too.

If you were President and returning to your home town in 3 years, wouldn't you try to keep a network for yourself going in D.C.?

Just how dumb do you think he is? He only has to be an average American, think like an average American and he does what we all do.

He's a mirror of ourselves. Both he and Kerry, frat brothers you know. Or are you too dumb to know?

Tells me that if you want Washington, D.C. to change then you have to look at the curriculum of all the colleges there. Especially G.W.U., the Presidential College.

Rewrite A WORLD RESTORED using the real Machiavelli :
IL DISCORSI, not THE PRINCE. That might change what the word NEO-CON means? I just think so, not rich enough to find out for sure.

Bet Skull&Bones knows.

George W. Bush is the result of what happens when a government has to much power. Maybe it's time to tell the government to give back all the powers its taken from us. As I posted on a different thread: Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. If you want to stop a government from becomeing corrupt do not give it unnessary power.

Like the song says "We got to take the power back."

The real Georgie Bush

Those who are concerned with the collapse of honesty, accountability and backbone in government should take advantage of the recent lifting of the ban on assault weapons and stock up...for defensive purposes only! Seriously. Thinking people often think that guns are not the solution. But when we are faced with a coup attempt by the neo-cons we will need some sort of counter to Rush Limbaugh's zombie army which is being indoctrinated and prepared everyday. I hear them practicing at the range down the street. I fear that those practicing their killing skills are not liberals or thinking people.

Be prepared for another 911 just in time for the next presidential election. Bush's backers let ol' "Bandar Bush's" boys get away with murder the first time. What makes you think he won't let a few of those terrorists slip through again? Please think about all the coincidences of 911. Don't close your mind to the idea that 911 was the result of the government conveniently looking the other way. Remember, Georgie Bush was NOBODY before 911. And he's rapidly approaching that NOBODY stage again. What, indeed, is next?

So what? So do we in Canada, so do they in England. Who doesn't?

The real questions are;

a. Who is pulling the strings?
Why not go after them? STOP buying their products, stop giving them money, START publicly getting on their backs. Cheney and Rove are puppets too, only smarter...

b. How did he get in a 2nd time? How'd he even get one vote? Rigged votes aside, You Americans need to take a look at the 2-party system, because it's doesn't satisfy enough views...Look at us up here - we have the standard left and right parties, but also the green party, the marijuana party, etc... smoke a joint and vote...it's the only way.

c. Ask yourself; Why does the whitehouse get such respect? W is not the "leader of the free world" - I live in THE free world, you live in a police state with a clear class-structure, a fake "dream," a fear-mongering & bought media, etc, etc...if ONLY Canada had 300Million people and you had only 30M, boy would the world be better off!!

WAKE UP UNLCE SAM !! Stop looking in the mirror and have a look around - The world is starting to hate your country...or maybe that's just bolton...
