From Margaret Saizan, who began a blog in anticipation of the storm:

"My husband Tommy saw a huge dead alligator in the middle of the road on the way to La Place, Louisiana. (a town between B.R. & N.O.). There is a rumor going around that a shark was seen in Kenner, La!"

"Popular New Orleans musician Charmaine Neville was evacuated to Baton Rouge and she told her story in the WAFB studio today."

Neville describes [VIDEO HERE or if link doesn't work for you, try this GO HERE] the first few days, from a house torn apart to the desperate hours on a roof as the water and food run out to dead bodies, alligators, rape, murder and the helicopters that just pass overhead.

Toward the end she sympathizes even with those who've committed the worst of crimes. She understands the desperation, she understands our collective culpability, she refuses to dehumanize. (Hurricane Katrina)
