Dear Mr. Bush:

Any idea where all our helicopters are? It's Day 5 of Hurricane Katrina, and thousands remain stranded in New Orleans and need to be airlifted.

Where on earth could you have misplaced all our military choppers? Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag.

Also, any idea where all our national guard soldiers are? We could really use them right now for the type of thing they signed up to do, like helping with national disasters. How come they weren't there to begin with?

Last Thursday I was in south Florida and sat outside while the eye of Hurricane Katrina passed over my head. It was only a Category 1 then, but it was pretty nasty. Eleven people died and, as of today, there were still homes without power. That night the weatherman said this storm was on its way to New Orleans. That was Thursday! Did anybody tell you? I know you didn't want to interrupt your vacation and I know how you don't like to get bad news. Plus, you had fundraisers to go to and mothers of dead soldiers to ignore and smear. You sure showed her!

I especially like how, the day after the hurricane, instead of flying to Louisiana, you flew to San Diego to party with your business peeps. Don't let people criticize you for this -- after all, the hurricane was over and what the heck could you do, put your finger in the dike?

And don't listen to those who, in the coming days, will reveal how you specifically reduced the Army Corps of Engineers' budget for New Orleans this summer for the third year in a row. You just tell them that even if you hadn't cut the money to fix those levees, there weren't going to be any Army engineers to fix them anyway because you had a much more important construction job for them -- BUILDING DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ!

On Day 3, when you finally left your vacation home, I have to say I was moved by how you had your Air Force One pilot descend from the clouds as you flew over New Orleans so you could catch a quick look of the disaster. Hey, I know you couldn't stop and grab a bullhorn and stand on some rubble and act like a commander in chief. Been there, done that.

There will be those who will try to politicize this tragedy and try to use it against you. Just have your people keep pointing that out. Respond to nothing. Even those pesky scientists who predicted this would happen because the water in the Gulf of Mexico is getting hotter and hotter making a storm like this inevitable. Ignore them and all their global warming Chicken Littles. There is nothing unusual about a hurricane that was so wide it would be like having one F-4 tornado that stretched from New York to Cleveland.

No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It's not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C'mon, they're black! I mean, it's not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don't make me laugh! Race has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with this!

You hang in there, Mr. Bush. Just try to find a few of our Army helicopters and send them there. Pretend the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are near Tikrit.

P.S. That annoying mother, Cindy Sheehan, is no longer at your ranch. She and dozens of other relatives of the Iraqi War dead are now driving across the country, stopping in many cities along the way. Maybe you can catch up with them before they get to DC on September 21st.

and to think most of the aftermath could have been avoided..

if the government isnt serving the people, its our job to rebel. where is the talk of impeachment?

No Lobby Money for Natural Disaster Preperation and Prevention

"Not my job", Bush should reply to his critics. There is no lobby money or votes for natural disaster mitigation. Hey, tell him and Cheney how you can outsource the chore and then you would get action. Why they would even seed the clouds to make sure!
Lets face it . To become president someone owns you. Bush is a moron, but the Evangelicals, Zionists and the military-industrial complex own him. Just like the ATLA, the NEA and all the hyphenated-Americans owned the sociopath Bill Clinton.
More states rights would be a better bet than allowing people like Bush and Clinton to have so much power.

This horrible catastrophy and the incredibly poor response just proves what half the country knew during the election -- Bush is an idiot. Unfortunately, and I'm ashamed to say this, I voted for him.

This will turn out to be just one of the many scandals that will bring down this despicable administration. When all is said and done, it'll make Watergate look like a traffic infration. Thank God for the Michael Moores and the Cindy Sheehans and the Molly Ivinses and, for that matter, the good people (most of them anyway) who contribute to this site. We're the ones who are tuning up the heat. We're the ones who will eventually bring these bastards down. We're the ones who are taking America back from the forces of darkness and stupidity. We're denounced by the right wing as "traitors" but we are the ones who are trying to save this country. We are the better angels of America's nature.

...if the 'big one' were to hit California right now, or another major hurricane hit some other part of the coast, or any other major natural disaster for that matter. This country would fall apart at the seams. You can't cut taxes for the rich, unilaterally execute policies that involve more than one party, subsidize big business, spend billions in foreign aid, gut domestic agencies tasked for preparedness, indefinitely ignore science and the experts of their warnings, take a gamble and occupy a country in hopes of big returns to the tune of billions per week, blame state and local authorities for shortfalls, ignore dilapidating infrastructure, and not expect it to bit you in the ass someday. When New Orleans is under control…it is time to start the impeachment process. I think enough people are starting to realize that a mistake was made in November of 2004.

FEMA Brown was just following orders...

Re: the criminally delayed federal response to Katrina.
Is it plausible that an adequate response plan existed, but was delayed as long as politically possible in order to allow:

g) further adverse effect to an already totaled city/refinery complex so that there might be more for Halliburton to rebuild and expand (yes, the administration will INSIST on expanding the refinery infrastructure concomitant with increased pressure to drill ANWAR); or,

w) DHS to stress the limits of impacted social order so as to better test their emergency response model on a few poor people; it was really an optimal moment to model the effects of a large-scale disaster on social order/population containment/urban infrastructure, all the better to plan an effective martial law/disaster response program; or,

b) both?

It's not a good day without a good conspiracy theory.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THIS DOES:
Just imagine this: what if terrorists decide to take this opportunity to attack the US somewhere else. Most National Guard people are deployed to IRAQ where they don't need to be now, and New Orleans where they do need to be. Will George make decisions that will defend us? I think not.

I'm curious why Bush kept referring to "this part of the world" in his press conference at the New Orleans airport. Does he not know where he is? Would someone please tell him that New Orleans is in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!! It is not "this part of the world", it is OUR part of the world!

This government has turned against the people. Our fathers warned about this and now it's here. This disaster in New Orleans is a direct result of the corruption in the Bush regime. What's true is that if New Orleans were inhabited by the wealthy Bush's base and friends they would have had a levy system that was state of the art. So much for America and democracy.

Democracy and the flag are used as tools for the conservatives to further their dominance agenda. The America they care about is the rich corporate mega wealthy America. The rest are cattle to be used like animals to make more profit. This is how they see the world. It is in everything they do. It's just to horrible to believe that's all.

It's time for a revolution in this country. It's time for the people to rise up against Bush and all the corporate government officials who support this attack on our democracy.

It is a sad fact but many of those who survived katrina's aftermath had a chance at a better life had they been rescued on time.

The president did not consider their well being BEFORE Katrina. How do you expect he would do it now?

For him, as his first words out of his mouth in his interview were "Zero Tolerrance for looters" proved;

keeping the merchendises in the half-destroyed shops in N.O. is more important than taking the poor and disabled out of N.O.

You think the death of a few thousand poor and operessed would make his corporate supporters/directors allow him to act as a human?

To anyone with any clout, there are over 200 Army and Air Force helicopters sitting on the ramps at Ft. Rucker. I know because I work here. I also know we're on a nice 4 day weekend for Labor Day. I'm absolutely disgusted by the whole thing. I've been trying to call FEMA, Red Cross, police agencies since Monday afternoon. I was told the aircraft might go if asked. Well, obviously the many stranded people of the Gulf Coast don't count when it comes to asking. Maybe the news, the Mayors, The Governors, the House and Senate, the president might want to ask.

Somebody, ask!

PAY ATTENTION: Impeachment won't work while the republicans control the house. I hear calls for impeachment every day, everywhere I go in Seattle, and all throughout the Northwest. It's my dream to see him gone ASAP, but here is the realistic strategy.
GET THE SENATE VOTE OUT IN '06. It is imperative. People need to take this next coming election period as seriously as we take our presidential elections, or more. If we can take control of those in Senate and Congress, then Bush can't push his agenda through anymore, and yes, we could then impeach him. Hold him/rumsfeld/rove/cheney accountable for war crimes, CIA leaks etc. He spent his all his political capital in the last few weeks. Tides are turning in America.

I am new to this forum, and someone has probably already suggested it, but I think we ought to send a few hundred busloads of refugees to the White House. It's Big, It has lots of room. WE pay for it. There are several kitchens. Regular citizens are opening their hearts and homes and pocketbooks. Why don't you, George? Because you are one dastardly MF, that is why. It takes something like this to happen before people realize what a prick got "elected".

I just heard that Haliburton is going to rebuild New Orleans for free, just as a big thank you to Americans for the millions and millions made in Iraq.

Where is Dick Cheney? I think he's getting ready to wade through chest deep toxic water to lay the first sandbag on that failed levee.

And I've hidden all the missing Iraqi WMDs in my tight, denim trousers.

I find it extremely insulting to every single American out there that there has been such a delay in sending help. I believe the people in Washington may have been too busy finding ways to exploit this opportunity and find a way to make money from it. How on earth??????......do gas and oil prices go up .30 - .60 cents overnight???? I thought that gas station owners were not suppose to increase their prices with the new gas prices until they received a fill up at the new cost??? Funny it seems as though everyone went up on there prices at the same time....could everyone have gotten a delivery at the same time???? Funny I haven't even seen tanker trucks carrying gas all over which would have to be the case in order to supply gas stations with the newly priced gas! The state our country is in is very frightening. and to think this man was actually voted in as President!!! for 2 terms no less. I don't know a single person who voted for him! where are all those people now...should'nt they be out there defending him and making excuses for him?? oh wait first things first....hi ho, hi ho, its off to the bank they go! This is how they add insult to injury!!

This is what the Republicans have been talking about when they say they want smaller government. The "Great Society" has been dismantled and all those safety nets, like FEMA, are gone. If the state and local government doesn't (or can't) pick up the slack, then, too bad. The plans and money for the project to keep the levees intact was enacted 40 years ago and still only 80% complete as of this year (because our elected officials kept taking the money for something else). We all share the responsibility of allowing our government to stop taking care of our poorest and least able. We also have to stop living for today; the infrastructure, whether it is levees, the environment or the national debt, has to be carefully managed for our children and grandchildren.

I suppose that the only thing that means anything to these carpetbaggers is money.

Here is what I intend to do. No more using the credit card; cash only. No more purchases of anything I don't absolutely need. A complete boycott of anything that has anything to do with tracking me, burying me under interest rates, or supporting the exploitation of the rest of us that are being walked on by those in power.

Imagine the chaos and panic in the money circles if everyone in this country with debt filed bankruptcy before October 17th.

It will be much worse than a hurricane, whereas we can put helping the poor and particularly the black on the back burner until the presidents recreation is wrapped up and the guard can be deployed to coincide with the arrival of the "Commander in Thief"

Think about it.

It's great to read all this but guess what? The people who really need to be hearing this most likely don't read AlterNet! (If they read at all, remember w says he doesn't read the newspapers or watch the news? maybe he should since the rest of his crew obviously isn't filling him in.) We need to speak up, shout it from the rooftops, write your local paper, write or call your congresspeople and representatives!!! Call, write, email the news channels, all of them, not only the ones we watch. March on the White House. Talk to our neighbors, talk to strangers. This is not time to sit and complain on line although it sure helps me feel better as I live in an EXTREMELY right wing conservative area in VA, but the more people speak out the more they know they are not alone and that there is POWER FOR THE PEOPLE! It's our only hope.

Here's a post from a listserve I belong to--thought I'd share:

I just found this neat document that I just have to share with you.

I thought that the parts about securing the rights to life, liberty and
the pursuit of happiness and the destructive government were fitting.

I found another piece of writing that has some interesting stuff in it, also...

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare..."

This was also found in that same interesting piece of writing:

""I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve,protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

That best of my ability part may be an escape clause.

I'm came from India to this "rich, wealthy and good" country 2 years back and now i feel i'm in the wrong place of the earth where the government is not able to provide a bottle of water and a sandwich for the hurricane victims

Having so many helicopters, so many flights and so many troops, i don't understand why it took 4-5 days to provide basic need for the dying people!!!

When Tsunami hit India, i've not seen this kind of "help".
Even the most corrupted and one of the most poor countries like Bangladesh is handling flood help in a better way.

When i called my friends and relatives back in home, they were questioning "We heard it is a great country, helping all parts of the world but now we can see their own people dying without food and begging for help..why is that?"

I don't have any answer.

Am i in the wrong place??

I find the state of our country to be embarrassing. First of all, we are the richest country in the world. Even before Hurricane Katrina, millions of our own citizens were living in poverty, many of them in third world conditions. Now, on international television, we are watching our own citizens die of hunger in squalid, sewage-filled streets. Our own government's nonreaction has driven foreign countries to action. Cuba has pledged medicines and doctors. This is a country with whom we have a trade embargo. If we try to send medicines to Cuba, we go to jail. Who is the bigger person now? Bush or Castro? El Salvador has offered to send police officers to New Orleans. Granted, we probably trained them at the School of Americas, but come on, El Salvador, giving charity to the United States of America? But wait, it gets worse. Sri Lanka has pledged to send $25,000. Do they have $25,000 in the entire country of Sri Lanka? If memory serves me correctly, didn't the whole Island pretty much get wiped off the map last December. Surely their citizens need the money more than the citizens of the richest, most powerful country in the world. But wait. Our allies and friends have risen above the rhetoric of the war hawks and pledged more money than our own Congress. Let's see if they at least have a temporary moratorium on calling the French pussies for awhile. It was embarrassing enough that the voters re-elected Bush in 2004. Now we are seeing the consequences of voting based on personal ideologies rather than actual policies and ability.

He's up north, visiting the tarsands in Canadian province of Alberta. People across Canada are wondering why this monster is being given a guided tour of the oilsands by our so-called "liberal" government. This trip has been in the works for quite a while, but I wouldn't be surprised if Cheney is somewhere in Canada, living it up in the Katrina's aftermath and having the Canadian people foot the bill.

Given W's past business--um, ventures--is anyone suprised that he's running this country into the ground? He hadn't been successful at anything until he ran for governor of Texas. Too bad it didn't stop there. It's our own fault for not doing more during the elections since then. The only way to remedy the situation is to do everything in your power to get Democrats or Independents elected in 06. Get involved, it's the only way.

I appreciate Michael Moore's continuous effort to bring to light the injustices in our country, but we must all do more than simply talk about it or make a movie...we must ACT! Michael, how about donating even just a tiny fraction of your profits from Farenheit 9/11 to relief efforts? Everyone else out there who is so angry and disgusted with our government's action, take action yourself! Donate supplies, donate money, hold a vigil for the victims, whatever! Four generations of my family lives on the MS Gulf Coast and many people in our community have died and 100,000 just in my county have lost their homes. Please, for the sake of my family and the many families devastated by this horrible tragedy, channel your anger into something useful and positive...HELP!

O.K. sure we can all see that 'underplanned' is exactly how the situation in the has developed. It's also the biggest understatment anyone could make. Truth is there is really no way to imagine disaster on epic proportions and plan ahead. But there sure as hell are some things you can do when the situation becomes immenant. Like when it's 2 days away,put all military bases within 24hr drive time on alert. When you order a million folks to leave town,take all the school,city,and tourist buses to the poor districts to really get people out and not park them in the lot for the insurance write-off. Let the civilian volenteers get the job done on helping the poeple.Texas, the biggest state in the lower 48,saying they don't have room for any more victims,is assinine. For the president not to open his ranch for these fellow humans in dire need only proves he's 'Darth W". Look FEMA, do your job, pump the city dry and repair the levies,quit trying to save your public face,let the people save these folks lives. I'm a wheelchair-bound disabled vet and we got more done in our region to help than the whole gov't,who acted like a deer in the headlights.While they were freaking,we,all across the country, that knew what needed to be done,were doin it. We're going to keep on doing it.Because we care,we'll do it better. Because we give a damn, we'll plan for the long haul. Because it will work,we'll be unreported. So what. On July of 2004, computer model of how a hurricane of Cat5 can destroy New Orleans was shown to authorities of Louisiana.
Attendees of this seminar were either dumbs or inattentive that was thought and suggested were not implemented causing so much lives lost and property destroyed.
Wake New Orleanians, Bush cant be your mayor, governor and president at the same time.

My wife brought up points to me while ago that reflect a great deal about what is going on here.

She reminded me of the term "cafeteria christians" and it's application in respect to pulling the ideals that support a specific viewpoint off the line without couching it in the overall teachings of the bible, for instance. We hit the buffet line and take what we need.

Then she pointed out the “puritan work ethic” and its effect on our thoughts and minds in terms of how God rewards those that work hard with things and money. She pointed out that Jesus never owned anything and counted on the kindness of strangers for all needs in life, asking “what the hell does capitalism have to do with Christianity” Nothing, really.

It doesn’t really matter whether or not you believe in God or the bible; it can be seen as a really good reference on how we all should live. I am no good Christian in any sense of the word. My faith has been based on something a devout catholic told me long ago which is “Pray like it all depends on God, and work like it all depends on you.”

Taken a step further, while we don’t really do a very good job of studying the bible any more, we also really don’t do a very good job of covering any canon of work written by those before us in terms of philosophy, history, or science. And most of all we don’t read, we don’t think, and we all have our own buffet available in support of explaining our horror at what has happened to us, our country, our neighbors, our friends, our family, and most of all, strangers whom we really know nothing about right now, other than they need help. They will need places to live, money, jobs, and most of all understanding and acceptance.

I’m still digging.

How typical of Michael Moore to use a disaster to push his liberal agenda!!! There were plenty of Helicopters and there are plenty of people to blame, beginning with the Mayor of New Orleans. There are hundreds of school busses under water. On the Thursday before Katrina everyone on the Gulf Coast knew that a Cat. 4 or 5 was hitting the area. No one should have known better than Mayor Whine-a-lot where his people were and where they needed to be. Why didn't he galvanize his city and use those busses to pick up those who could not evacuate on their own? The President could not send anyone in until the Governor of the State requested. This is built into our Constitution to protect State's Rights. The Governor failed. The President should have had everyone ready when the call came. He didn't. I live in Houston, I've volunteered, I know the frustraion and fear these people are feeling. We just need to be there for our fellow Americans and shove the Michael Moores right off of the podium.

Once again, you dropped the ball. Since you wouldn't send your daughters to Iraq to help fight "The war on terrorism", maybe you should send them to New Orleans to help the people you didn't. Maybe the director of FEMA who claims to be qualified can assign them to a place "out of harms way" as a personal favor to you.

1. The problems of subsidence and watershed deterioration of the LA/MS coasts have for many, many, many years been largely ignored by the Feds. In addition to only planning for up to a Cat3 hurricane regarding flooding and levee damage. The lack of addressing these issues did not begin with the current administration, but obviously was not properly corrected by it either.
2. Hurricanes are a GAMBLE. They may or may not be severe and they may or may not come your way. It’s expensive, and time consuming, and life unsettling to evacuate every time one comes in. For that reason, local and state officials do not take Mandatory Evacuations lightly. When they do issue those orders, it’s time to go.
3. However, many folks, as evidenced by the significant number of non-evacuees in the Katrina situation, CHOOSE to stay and not go. Many of these are thrill seekers who stay because they want the experience; many are old-timers who’ve ridden out hurricanes in the past, and just think they’re bullet proof; some just don’t want to go to the inconvenience – they choose to take the gamble. Another small minority are truly lacking in the means, for one reason or another.
4. Even now, with e-coli in the water, many residents are REFUSING to leave.
5. I’ve witnessed so many people on TV - middle class, educated, affluent looking people - in the last week with the same similar story: ‘My 94 year-old father/mother who lives alone in NO is there without food and water and is starving. He/she has a heart condition and is a diabetic, etc, etc, etc.’ It’s heart breaking….. My question to these folks is “Why the Hell was your 94 year-old parent with all of these medical problems living alone anywhere? Where are YOU and what is YOUR responsibility in this situation? This is YOUR parent. When you saw a Cat5 hurricane heading for where ever your parent was living, what did YOU do to get them out of harm’s way? “
6. We have become a total Entitlement Mentality oriented society – not wanting to look after our own but expecting the government to do it. Other nations – Cuba, Carribean Isle countries, Bangladesh, sunammi victims – very poor nations – all know how to help themselves when disaster hits while Americans sit on their butts and whine and cry out “Help me, Government”.

How come nobody noticed how well Bush's first visit to the hurricane torn area well well staged and timed so that the big army trucks all rolled in and the busses came and the transports came and the helicopters came all on the same day.The Penske drivers even said when interviewed(was right on CNN)that they were held in Texas and told not to go in with their loads and then were allow to go on Bushes timely arrival.The women he was hugging and kissing so nicely(pervert) did'nt see to have a native accent.Sounded like Jamacians.No one there seems too put out about all the loss and damage.Probably another well staged happening for mr bush.Scared to face the real victims in this whole in case someone would get in his face and tell him off.What do otheres thing about all of this out there.This guy is a phony as a 3 dollar bill in my opnion and is an idiot.Canadian Observer.

To all who would place blame for anything to do with the catastrophy in New Orleanes and the two other states that you fail to mention in your hate filled comments towards Bush and anyone else.
You people make me sick to my stomach, you sit there having not even step foot in the area in the few days after the storm not even knowing the logistical nightmare that existed and automatically pass judgement on something you know nothing about!
You the critics who use the suffering of thousands of people to promote your pethetic hate filled political agenendas are the true hate mongers. You care nothing about the suffering of the people! all you care about is your political agenda against Bush.
You hate bush so much you are willing to exploit the suffering of tens of thousands to spue your words of hate! Its' so incredibly obvious and even more predictable from you hatefull people. You are making the biggest political blunder in the history of the democratic party.

Really sorry to see how Americans have been neglected by the ameriKans --the people who've brought again Bush to the power--. It's not my fault if USA is now at its lowest level of civilization after Saint Creek! Look into yourselves and try to find is something is wrong in your way of life!

Decisionmaking 'top-down' or 'bottom-up' boiles down to taking leadership and responsibility. Facing a Katasthrophina the leader has to take charge, end all discussions (come of his a..) and act/take a decision. That 's his job, what he's elected and paid for.

By the way, Michael, as a citizen of New England I think I can safely say that the population of Kennebunkport is reduced these days. Many of them are probably off volunteering to help the people affected by Katrina. Remember, the Bushes just visit there in the summer.

The root of the problem:

Dick Chaney’s and Rumsfeld area constant substitute father figures for Dufus. The goof ball poor excuse for a president fails so often because he is immature and needs the assistance and guidance of an elder to mentor him through the day. That makes Dufus a pawn to Chaney and G. H. W. Bush’s close friends. The psychological need for approval is a strong one and thus he puts himself in a secondary position to those who can manipulate Dufus’s little brain. We all have to pay the price for the results of this dysfunctional situation. The elder persons including C. Rice act as parental figures and the child inside Dufus listens to them as advisors but the child is too incapable of understanding the influence.

The fact remains that Dufus will never have the legacy he wants to get his father’s approval. He is the disaster president and his administration will go into the history book as one of the worst examples of incompetence, manipulative corruption and abuse of power.

No matter how many times the ultra right wing conservatives want to play "Hail to the Chief” I will not salute or support the administration. They might want the public to support the ongoing policy as is, but when the government is fatally flawed it is time to change it. The old paradigm of “My country right or wrong” does not work unless you have a blind obedient idiotic public. The job for all the public is to fix the problem by admitting all past mistakes and then building a fair minded nation that we all can be proud. Until them you can stop waving the flag and hiding behind it.

The whole situation is shameful.

We should not forget that the unfortunate war in Afghanistan (keeping the Russians out of the IRAQ and IRAN oil fields) and Iraq were an outgrowth of foreign policies that started with the elder Bush’s oil buddies and a desire to nail the Arab countries into US defined compliance. The covert action of the CIA and white house policies in the past has been to keep the Arabs fighting among each other. Evidence the support of the Shaw of Iran’s dictator. When that failed by public revolt we had a hostage situation. Then the CIA armed the Iraq’s to help fight the Russians. The munitions given to the IRAQ government then were turned on the US. That eventually gave us 9-11. Some people hate the US because the US government policy has been abusive to their rights while undermining their religion, culture and traditions. You might be able to understand why.

During the Kuwait war there was an attempt on both the Bush’s lives. Dufus has been holding a grudge against those people for a long time and his personal agenda has made its way into US foreign policy. That policy in part was the root cause behind the Kuwait war, 9-11 and the current wars. All three wars may have been unnecessary if the US government could only learn to mind its own business, instead of meddling with the internal affairs of sovereign nations.

The real issue here is that the control of oil and its prices is the main source of the problem and Dick Chaney and other oil barons are right in the middle of the messed up policy. Now we have high gas prices because people like Bush and oil companies including Brown and Root (a Halliburton company) can make a profit that boggles the mind. I personally don’t like blood mixed with the gas and oil I purchase.

New Orleans Ignored Its Own Plan

The city of New Orleans followed virtually no aspect of its own emergency management plan in the disaster caused by Hurricane Katrina. New Orleans officials also failed to implement most federal guidelines, which stated that the Superdome was not a safe shelter for thousands of residents.

The guidelines of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which has little jurisdiction to act on its own but is designed to work with local authorities, suggests that local evacuation plans "coordinate the use of school buses and drivers to support evacuation efforts."

Neither New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin nor Mrs. Blanco ordered buses to take people out of the city before the storm. Two days after the storm hit, the governor issued an order for buses to roll, but by then hundreds of buses in New Orleans were underwater and useless.

The city, however, ignored FEMA guidelines that designated "supershelters" should be located outside of floodplains and outside of Category 4 storm-surge zones.

Governor Blanco refused to let helicopters drop food and water fearing riots from black people no one calls out her racism.

Police evacuated tourists from the superdome and left the black people there what about that racism.

Mayor let the hotel guests go to the superdome and cut to the front of the line for people waiting for buses at the superdome.

Kathleen Blanco's husband, Raymond, was dean at USL in Lafayette when Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot. On that April day in 1968, he was requested to lower the school flag to half-staff, as was being done all over the county. Raymond politely told the requesters to f--- off.

What exactly has Michael Moore done-physically, monetarily, etc. to help the victims of this disaster?? I have not seen one ounce of footage from any news channel with HIM on any boat, plane, or standing in any amount of water, or in any civic center, offering shelter, money, etc. I have yet to see HIM leading a little white/black/hispanic woman, man, or child out of the rubbish that was once N.O. I have yet to see him on any commercials appealing for Red Cross/Salvation Army donations. So, please, someone, tell me-what the hell is he actually DOING????????
