Fire on the Prairie is a radio forum exploring politics and ideas with progressive writers, thinkers and activists, sponsored by In These Times. Fire on the Prairie features interviews, commentary and reporting on local and national issues, including foreign policy, labor, activism, the environment and the media. Aaron Sarver and Emily Udell produce and host each half-hour monthly show, which broadcasts on WLUW and WHPK in Chicago.

On this month's show:

  • Victor Navasky, publisher of The Nation, talks about his more than 35 years in journalism. Navasky has just published a memoir titled A Matter of Opinion.
  • Aaron Sarver interviews Carrie MacLaren, activist prankster and publisher of Stay Free!, the 10-year-old magazine dedicated to critiquing consumer culture.
  • Rocker and activist Patti Smith comments on the state of the music industry today.
  • In These Times' editor Joel Bleifuss remembers In These Times' founder James Weinstein, who passed away on June 16th.
