Fire on the Prairie is a radio forum exploring politics and ideas with progressive writers, thinkers and activists, sponsored by In These Times. Fire on the Prairie features interviews, commentary and reporting on local and national issues, including foreign policy, labor, activism, the environment and the media. Aaron Sarver and Emily Udell produce and host each half-hour monthly show, which broadcasts on WLUW and WHPK in Chicago. In this month's show, you'll hear:

  • In These Times editor Joel Bleifuss interviews Representative Bernie Sanders, who is the longest-serving Independent member of Congress in American history. Sanders just announced he’s running for U.S. Senate in 2006.
  • You’ll hear two readings from a panel discussion at the Harold Washington Library called “Invisible Labor: How Art Speaks the Language of Labor.” Writers Jeff Manes and Susan House share their prose about work.
  • Also Aaron Sarver interviews In These Times contributing editor Silja J.A. Talvi about the state of the prison industry today.
