Tell Us Who YOU Think Is the Most Influential Progressive!
AlterNet wants to highlight and give progressive media talent the visibility and the recognition they deserve. In the battle with the right-wing propaganda machine, we need to promote the wide array of people in the progressive talent pool. As the Free Press Media conference approaches, we wanted to give you the opportunity to vote on those who you feel are the most influential media progressives (click here to go directly to the survey).
We’ve put together a list of approximately 50 media figures, including writers, editors, pundits, radio and TV hosts, columnists, and filmmakers. We can't include everyone, so we provided a write-in category as well.
AlterNet did our first influential media progressive survey back in November 2009.
We’ve included all those who scored well in that survey and added names from other recent surveys. The one exception is Bill Moyers, who was voted the most influential in the last survey. Bill has retired from public television. So we are going to give someone else a chance to get the top spot (although the text of a recent speech by Bill posted on AlterNet was easily the most popular article for that week. He is still very influential).
This year we are adding two additional categories: Most Influential Blog and Most Influential Online Magazine (thanks to those of you who might have voted for AlterNet, but to be fair, we are not including ourselves).
There are hundreds of blogs, but after consulting with staff and blog experts, we are including 31 that fall in the category of general interest progressive blogs with significant popularity -- the same goes for online magazines (we are sticking to web sites, and not print magazine versions, since we are in the web business). Again, apologies to those who may feel left out. Please write in the name of any individual, blog, or online magazine you feel is worthy of recognition.
