In a segment highlighting Rush Limbaugh's and Pat Robertson's heinous remarks about Haiti in the wake of the great earthquake that has leveled much of the island nation, The Daily Show's Jon Stewart also found a liberal culprit: MSNBC's Rachel Maddow.
What ticked Stewart off was her observation during her coverage of the Haiti earthquake that the kind of diplomatic aid under way in Haiti -- the kind of "soft power" exerted through the efforts of such agencies as the U.S. Agency for International Aid and Development -- is exactly the kind of effort President Barack Obama had in mind when formulating his foreign policy, and in choosing Hillary Clinton to lead the State Department.
Stewart found Maddow's remark to be inappropriately ideological. "Congratulations, MSNBC viewers," he said. "You're on the right side."
I was watching Maddow when she made her point. I nodded my head. Perhaps this will get through to folks, I thought. But, then again, I'm probably a self-satisfied MSNBC viewer who's on the right side.
Did Stewart feel the need to slam a liberal to offset his slam at the racists? Is this what fair and balanced looks like? You decide.
