A Very Special Christmas in Baghdad

It’s a stable democracy, stupid.

During the last presidential campaign, John McCain was bold enough to wander around Iraq, after which he and his rightwing fellow travelers declared its streets as safe as those of any Midwestern city!

At a news conference shortly after their outing, Mr. McCain, an Arizona Republican, and his three Congressional colleagues described Shorja as a safe, bustling place full of hopeful and warmly welcoming Iraqis — “like a normal outdoor market in Indiana in the summertime,” offered Representative Mike Pence, an Indiana Republican who was a member of the delegation.

That was when there was still an occupation going on. Thankfully, Obama came along and now that’s all fixed.

So much so, in fact, that Mike Mullen, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, decided to get in some Christmas shopping in a popular Baghdad market over the holidays. [Yes, I am very late to this post. Sorry!]
