Why Do Conservatives Love Sarah Palin? Because She Never Stops Whining

Sarah Palin constantly complains about the imaginary injustices done to her person. And our country loves whiners.

The really beautiful thing about the culture war, from an entertainment standpoint, is that it is fundamentally irresolvable. There isn’t a concrete set of issues involved, where in theory both sides could give in a little and find middle ground, reach some sort of compromise.

That’s because there are no issues at all. At the end of this decade what we call “politics” has devolved into a kind of ongoing, brainless soap opera about dueling cultural resentments and the really cool thing about it, if you’re a TV news producer or a talk radio host, is that you can build the next day’s news cycle meme around pretty much anything at all, no matter how irrelevant — like who’s wearing a flag lapel pin and who isn’t, who spent $150K worth of campaign funds on clothes and who didn’t, who wore a t-shirt calling someone a cunt and who didn’t, and who put a picture of a former Vice Presidential candidate in jogging shorts on his magazine cover (and who didn’t).

It doesn’t matter what the argument is about. What’s important is that once the argument starts, the two sides will automatically coalesce around the various instant-cocoa talking points and scream at each other until they’re blue in the face, or until the next argument starts.

And while some of us are old enough to remember that once upon a time, these arguments always had at least some sort of ideological flavor to them, i.e. the throwdowns were at least rooted in some sort of real political issue (war, taxes, immigration, etc.) we’ve now got a whole generation that is accustomed to screaming at cultural enemies as an end in itself, for the sheer dismal fun of it. Start fighting first, figure out the reasons later.

Sarah Palin is the Empress-Queen of the screaming-for-screaming’s sake generation. The people who dismiss her book Going Rogue as the petty, vindictive meanderings of a preening paranoiac with the IQ of a celery stalk completely miss the book’s significance, because in some ways it’s really a revolutionary and innovative piece of literature. ...

2012 Sarah Palin is now President, and back by popular demand, Vice President Dick Cheney! The US is becoming a more deeply divided country than at any time I'm able to recall. The best posting I've read on the 'Palinsanity' (thank you Matt) is over at Consortium.news, written by Robert Parry. Pres Obama needs to host a weekly discussion that is televised across the nation, where vitally important issues are aired openly.

Taibbi is correct, the same way Frank Rich said in the New York Times: "The more she is attacked for not being in possession of pointy-headed erudition, the more powerful she becomes as an avatar of the anti-elite cause."
Considering the ratings spike from her appearance on Oprah, I would not be surprised if team Palin is not preliminary negotiations with Harpo productions.

But don't forget, Sarah Palin believes she is annointed by God. That makes her all the more dangerous; she has no need to know anything about the issues because God is leading her.

Progressives need to understand that the Sarah Palin phenomenon is the product of Obama's dirty primary campaign.

Palin rose to national prominence as a direct result of the low-down, misogynistic primary campaign waged by the Obama gang. This is something progressives would like to forget--but I saw the whole thing go down.

The Obama campaign, and its eager followers fought dirty against Hillary Clinton in the primaries. One of their favorite tactics was to call Hillary and her female supporters the C word over and over again. This is when they weren't calling their fellow Democrats racists for daring to criticize their crappy candidate.

I witnessed all of this and will not hear otherwise. Obama's fans acted worse than any Democrats in history. The primary campaign marked an all-time ethical low point for the Democratic Party and the progressive movement.

Needless to say, millions of people who liked Hillary--or at least didn't hate her--became alienated from the Democratic Party because of all this misogyny. McCain selected Palin as his running mate in part to win over the disaffected Democrats who had seen the misogynistic underbelly of the Obama campaign and its supporters. This would be a very reasonable thing for him to do. The depth of Sarah's giddiness only came out later.

In this way, Obama and his crew created the Sarah Palin phenomenon, which is very much the result of the sleazy tactics of Obama and his followers. If you like Sarah Palin, thank a progressive.

Not only will Sarah come crashing down when she thinks she can Buck the Boys (who've had a perpetual boner for her) but when she bucks the majority of woman.
Women do 'Love to Hate' reason soap operas still exist.
Hillary took the womans movement by storm in the '90's, Then she fell to it's Ax in '08.
Hillary could only muster up the polyster pantsuit crowd. and it was nowhere near 18 million - otherwise her campaign debts would have been paid by a mere $1.25 from each of her 'supporters', and she' have had no need to extort the funds from the Obama supporters.
So Build Sarah Up Neo Con Boys, Build her 'perfect image' as high as Mt Olympus.
Women don't just enjoy bringing down the 'most popular girl', we enjoy watching the boys be discredited when we do, as well.
Yeah she's a Beaut ah? Gives you a chubby just looking at her, and oh dear God when she Winks. How does that reaction go over when dining with your wife?
Besides the willingness to expose your horniness only proves the point women have been making for... Millenia- Men think with their Dipsticks...are victims of their Hormones. They can't be trusted to make Public policy or act as Global deciders. They are the Weaker gender.
At least women are 'sane' the other 21 days out of every month.Obviously Mean Mr Hormones never releases his grip on men.
Can't hardly wait for the lone voice under a sheet crying 'Stop picking on Sarah' to go viral on Utube- We could all use a good laugh (and a look in the mirror)

Why is she beloved?

"...two legs bad, four legs GOOD..."
or vice versa...

It's simply boiled down, to - Liberals are what is BAD about this country. Conservatives are what's GOOD.

Everything else follows suit.

Palin knows how to serve up the beef (and cheesecake), voices these mantras and boiler plate direct from right wing central. And her fans can't get enough.

Liberal weanies must always be fair and truthful and patiently explain. Ought to take a lesson from the righties - hit hard first, ask question later, if at all.

Maybe we need someone besides a Dennis Kucinich to represent, to stand up against this pervasive onslaught that starts with Rushbo and ends... well it doesn't end.

That's right, liberals. Get your guns ablazin' and start shooting.

It's what I try to do. Right between the eyes, so it stings. When someone puts out nonsensical attacks, I blast them. I never defend, because that's what they look for.

I go instead to their own lameness, hypocrisy, record, and fallacies.

Jam them up.

"Culture Wars & America"

America and the GOP as a whole have been on the dumbed down path for a long while now. Unfortunately the more that Sarah Palin is ridiculed by progressives & the left, the more of a "hero" she becomes! These "faux culture issues" have been and are being used to cover up the fact that the GOP has been waging a war on working people for the Oligarchy! NAFTA, and all of those other "FREE TRADE" deals, have allowed jobs to hemorrhage to overseas markets! This nation, produces nothing, yet the GOP would have everyone believe, that American underemployment is the fault of the individual!

These charlatans have revoked laws that were designed to keep the Oligarchy in check, and to keep them from preying on the American populace! While Sarah Palin, is the most egregious example of a dumbed down America, her "followers" are of similar mindset! These people don't want to "see" that they are being used, and how badly their blind faith in the GOP is being used against them and this nation! Really I'm not sure exactly what the answer is to attempt to wake these people up to the truth; on the other hand maybe the truth is too painful for them, and waking up to that reality might just push them over the edge of sanity!

Why does the M$M take these whiny babies seriously
Posted by: ETSpoon on Nov 23, 2009 7:36 AM

We can ridicule Sarah Palin and her "tea bagger" followers for their vacuous celebrity worship, childish religiosity and willful ignorance and in a sane society this deluded minority would be treated as a crank fringe dangerous only to themselves.

However, we do not live in a sane society. Here the mainstream media, at the behest of their corporate overlords, present this sliver of Americans who sniff the hem of Sarah Palin's skirt as being at the forefront of political thought.

These whiny, petty, cases of arrested development, who want all the benefits and comforts of a modern industrial society but without paying for it, are cast in the role "authentic" Americans, thereby making the rest of us somehow foreign, strange, out of touch with these "real" Americans.

While they're bitching about all the taxes they pay, never say which "socialist" government service they are will to give up! Just ask one of these assholes if they'll give up police and fire protection. Just ask one of these assholes if they'll send their Social Security checks back to the US Treasury; if they'll say "No,no, no. No Medicare for me, thank you." In fact they want the government to keep its filthy hands off Medicare!

But you never hear these right wing nuts ever complain about all the money that gets pissed away in Afghanistan and Iraq, to the tune of billions! They never bitch about all the money that gets pissed away every day by The Pentagon just to keep US soldiers in countries where they're doing nothing more than being a cash-cow for the local economy of the host country, think Germany and Japan.

But the reason, I think, the M$M holds Sarah Palin and her GenX and Boomer followers in such high regard is, they are the Kapos of the Wall Street interests, the M$M's corporate masters, intent on destroying the federal government as we know it and leading us all to our economic Auschwitz.

Matt:
Perhaps here, too, you'll wake up tomorrow and determine that indeed, you are the asshole. Your article has lots of clever words, couched in terms that avoid charges of libel, while making it clear that you (like much of America) have a deep fear of Sarah Palin, and will do or say nearly anything to keep her from being a leader in this country.
On a rational level, your article is the same as your book: "The Great Derangement". If Palin was half as bad as you make her out to be, she'd never have gotten where she is.
Is this petty jealousy that her book sales are several times what you wish yours could be? Or are you so liberally bent that you refuse to see her as an accomplished person, trying to make a difference?
When it comes to whining (although layered in clever wording) Sarah Palin can't hold a candle to your words -- although intelligent readers should do just that.
This is the type of article that gives Alternet a bad name.

Culture Wars are racist machinations

Current rating: 4    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
it is important to remember that the Culture wars that began in the late 80's were and attack on multicultural education by the likes of Lynn Cheney, William Bennett, William Krystol, among others. These white academics believed multicultural education would be the end of america's cultural superiority in the world.

What that really means is that white people, mostly males, would no longer dominate U.S. political and economic policy. The fears stemmed from the browning of the american southwest that Lou Dobbs and others politely euphemize as "Illegal immigration."

As more and more women and people of color realized that their contributions to america's economic superiority are being ignored in history and literature, multiculturalism was borne. And, in an age when white males are the minority in the U.S., the white male club is truly in jeopardy. Thus the spawns from hell themselves, Limbaugh, Beck, O'Reilly, and Palin, are extremely popular among those who wish to preserve The Old Ways. Now...

Imagine what those white warriors think about our half-African president? Jimmy Carter is right. Those predominately white protests groups can couch their protests in any shade of tea they want, but it's really Black and Brown tea they hate.

It is time we put the culture wars in its proper context. Any way you slice it, it's xenophobia, racism, sexism and genuine hatred from all things non-white and non-male. And, just because Palin is a woman doesn't mean she is not part of the white male club.

Peace

WHERE'S THE BEEF???

Current rating: 2    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Where is the substance in that article? Oh. I know. Again, there is none.

It's kind of odd. How the author lays out an argument against Palin based on ...???

'NOTHING substantial' comes to mind. Not a peep about her views. Not a jot or tittle about what she did as a mayor or Alaska's gov. Just the usual smoke on superficial subjects. And you call her a whiner?

The DLP's (Dem lib progs ['progressives'])have been doing all the propagandized fact starved emotion based whining ever since SP was introduced as McLame's running mate. It looks to me that she is a threat to the big $ baby killing industry because she had a Down's S child. She hunts with a real gun! Oh my! She took on her own party's corruption in Alaska & WON! Ooohhh! How vile! She actually, in real life, stood against corruption! She echoes the thought of most of us NON DLPers that we should drill our own oil AND do the alternative thing. If it were not for corruption there would be no DLP movement & the new RNC would be in a hard place as well. Both are under fire now & losing members.

How about some facts about how what she did was all wrong. How about a word or two about how she screwed up as a mayor? Maybe a word or sentence about her policies. After all, SP has more experience in gov than BHO. She actually ran a thing or two. She did not drop from the corrupt Chicago ACORN based political tree. She did not work for ACORN or the SEIU. She does not owe them any thing. On the other hand, there is the ACORN nut, BHO...

I mean, don't you DLP's under stand how stupid you look when you whine & have no substance on real issues to back up you thought?

Sans corruption, there would not have been a John McLame or Barry Sot,,,ERR, I mean Barak H Obama running. The USA would have had honest candidates running who are not bought & owned by the new world order's one word gov cabal. We do not even know where BO was born. (Jump on me as a 'birther' ONLY if you have definitive proof that there is a BO BC. No forgeries either.)

Any way, whatever.

I do know that if the "my 'party' Vs. your 'party' " US infighting continues & we do now all get truly honest about the real threats facing the USA...we will all be losers to BHO & his 1 world gov puppeteers.

If you have substance, bring it! Let the smoke of non fact based emotionalism blow on by. Thanks.

SamFox

The emails that the liberty and truth loving hackers have revealed in which hundreds of these missives are pouring out as we speak which speak to the criminal deception perpetrated by the ICCP and Al Gore are what is important. Not Sarah Palin who merely has been set up to divert us into thinking about unimportant people who are media creations.

The only reason Palin gets so much attention is because she presents a nice looking package for the media, prancing about doing and saying a bunch of meaningless things. If you have a nice package and the right PR you can sell anything. People who support her by far are those un-concerned with the content of what she says. They are more enthralled with the fact that she looks good. If you listen to her closely without looking at her face you quickly realize she cannot string two coherent sentences together. Her supporters are the same people who overwhelmingly supported GWB, a man who had nothing in the way of brains or successful life experiences that could have informed him in his actions. A complete failure!!! He is and was an empty shirt. Palin is the same only much more dangerous because she is more physically appealing!!! The lights are on and nobody is home. That can be said for both Bush and Palin. Put bags over their heads and no one will pay attention to them. Palin supporters have bought a nice package. The nasty contents make no difference!!! Supporters are impulse shoppers, a creation of modern marketing genius. Listen to what she has to say without looking at her!!! Warning…if she is given a job that gives her any power over people she will create untold pain and suffering. Wake UP!!!

Fear is what Palin and Rush and Glen support and then they just have the right answers go out and kill someone who is not like you. That is their program and if you listen close you can hear the KKK in the background. Let's see what we have new today. The government is bad. In what way do you ask and they have all kinds of answers that make no sense. If it weren't for the military doing their thing who would you have killing all those people different than we are? The militia of Michigan and Alaska for ones can't wait to get their hands on a Muslim or Jew or someone of color. Give me a break. If love can't do it then do you think hate will? Not a chance. So make all the people afraid and then have all the pat answers to get people riled up and you will find out as Hitler's Germany did that it wasn't the Jews after all but Hitler and his band of henchmen that lied to the people and kept them afraid.

Palin, proof of mass immaturity

Almost fifty years ago I attended a lecture on international relations in the western pacific.
The speaker was a subcontinental Indian of impeccable international academic background.
When someone asked what he considered to be America's position with respect to Japan he hesitated and said that it was really difficult to predict what America would decide to do. He stopped and added that one had bo begin with the understanding that America is the greatest example of mass immaturity the world has seen.
And it has only gotten worse.
Palin and Bush were concrete proof of this.

Unfair I accept to label the whole population that way but the position has arisen where the immature, deeply ignorant and retarded are being courted by the right, personified by the bimbo Palin. This great herd of basically the brain-dead is a powerful force to be used by those whose only aim is to gain personal power.

Quite sobering.

I'd forgotten what we whites can get real down about this country's status. And the fictional Archie Bunker reminded us that ignorant whites can rally behind someone equally or more ignorant. That's Palin's base.

Heaven help us.

Palin is no culture warrior. She did not rise to prominence in Alaskan politics by being one. And neither did she govern there based on changing the state's "culture". She has not led her political life with her personal beliefs and religious principles as her signature issues. She was a rather practical take-on-the-establishment nuts-and-bolts reformer who didn't get diverted and thrown off the track by irrelevancies; because she took on the corrupt old boy's club in her own party, a lot of what she accomplished in Alaska was based on her working with Democrats. I know there's selective memory on this now that she's a national figure, but I'm just saying...

C-SPAN this weekend had a 45 minute program on her book tour appearance in a Cincinnati suburb. Maybe people can watch it for themselves online. They spent almost the whole show interviewing her fans there (mostly the female ones, as I can recall only two men appearing).

There was not one mention of the ten commandments in schools, flag burning, gay marriage, over-turning Roe v. Wade, and all the rest one would associate with recruits into the culture wars. Palin's appeal clearly lies elsewhere.

The neo-con establishment was actually not very keen on Palin, as the comments of Peggy Noonan, Kathleen Parker, Bill Kristol, and quite a few others would attest to. She's just not one of them, and they were wary of her, perhaps because they didn't know exactly what flag she was flying under.

So, nice try, but you should go back to the drawing board and come up with something a little more plausible.

Like maybe how it was Obama who made political appeal these days all about charm, and how Palin is just a different flavor of that, since one can't very well expect Obama's urbane sophistication to sell very well in small-town America.

Or you could also go on about how Obama was always careful to be a blank slate upon which people could project just about anything they wanted, and how Palin to a fair degree has adopted the exact same strategy. Some would call this "having no substance" but why knock it if it works?

In other words, it was Obama and not Palin who was "revolutionary and innovative", in certain ways at least. He's the smart one after all, right?

When Madam Palin first hit the national scene after Senator McCain announced that she was his selection to be his Vice-Presidential running mate, I was struck at how childish the republicons' reaction was. Granted, Ms. Palin turned a lackluster, losing, republicon presidential candidate into a contender by the sheer force of her charisma. But, the way the people responded to her snarky speeches at rallies where she appeared, alone or with McCain, was like watching attention-deprived children in an elementary-school class who wanted "teacher" to call on them first. Sarah Palin was (and still is) a third-rate politician if not a third-rate intellect with an astonishing lack of class, grace and maturity for someone her age. The whole republicon party at this stage of the game has regressed into childish pettiness. Watching the republicons since the election of Barack Obama to the presidency is like watching bratty children playing in a sandbox--squabbling and fighting and crying. It seems their whole agenda is "I'm gonna hold my breath until you let let me have my way". Then, they stick their tongues out and go off into a corner to pout and plot. I call them the "whiney-cons" or "crybaby conservatives" because it fits the current actions of the republicon party post-2008. I no longer see them as a mature partner in civil governance. They've become uncontrollable and disruptive.

Although I agree with just about everything Vanessa points out in the piece, the word “pander” is surprisingly absent. It explains who she is and she joins the ranks of a rapidly growing list of multi-millionaire panderer-hypocrites, both male and female, cramming our airwaves.

Here's why so many detest Sarah Palin.
Martha Stewart, in a recent TV interview, demonstrated why the elite hate ordinary people who stray into the public eye. She earns the title of Mean Martha with her demeaning responses to questions about Rachael Ray and Sarah Palin. She did us a great service, however, because she gave us a concrete example of the differences between the elite herding class and the herd, them and us. The few elite rule the many, as is tradition in the world outside of America. The elite herding class has moved into most all levels of government, the law, media, entertainment and the big city cocktail circuit. Ordinary working class men and women, their children and parents, are the fly-over herd they are to manage, like polished cowboys circling the cattle. In the terms of the Transactional Psychologists, Mean Martha and her elite are the I’m OK, you are not OK crowd. That is what happened to America since its founding, when everyone had to work and create to survive, stand on their own two feet and depend on their neighbors in times of stress. We have a lot of Mean Martha’s with us today assuming positions of importance where they believe they decide how the herd is to live. Claysamerica.com.

Television HAS killed our culture...

I didn't click to read the rest of the article, because the basic underlying premise behind the whole thing is that teevee is ruining our culture, which is quite true, by me.

In fact, teevee HAS ALREADY ruined our culture. And whether we get it back or not totally depends on teevee's fate. Personally, I don't see any hope for ANY rational common framework of discussion, now or ever, so long as teevee exists. Teevee creates the illusion of a community discussion, but without the real people (you know: that you can actually talk to). Without a real community, we each exist in a bubble, the contents of which are chosen individually by us, the viewers, using our remote controls.

We feel the need to be connected to people, but we settle for a medium that supplies us merely the illusion of connectedness, with none of the heft or effort that the real thing demands of us. Disagreement gets a channel change. We settle for the substitute, because it's sOooo much easier to get to, than a real understanding with those others we live among.

And as long as we have such an easy-to-swallow substitute, we'll never search out the real thing.

And Palin, bless her moose rifle, is a prime example of how teevee distorts reality. Teevee has convinced us that nothing matters more than an easy face to look at. Look at footage from the fifties. Not a smooth face in the lot, besides in the movies. Now you have to look like a movie star, to make it in national politics. It doesn't much matter what your message is, or even if you have one.

Who now believes that Dubya was a man of substance? Those who still believe in him say things like, "But he was so personable, who wouldn't want a president that a person could talk to?" But of course that's not the criteria, for leading the nation. And the truth is, he could hardly talk. The press had to constantly, and automatically, correct his misutterances and outright misstatements. His main talent was looking good in a $ 3000.00 suit.

Palin's another.

Here's to what America ONCE was, before our minds were swallowed by the teevee.

Culture Wars are racist machinations

it is important to remember that the Culture wars that began in the late 80's were and attack on multicultural education by the likes of Lynn Cheney, William Bennett, William Krystol, among others.

Thanks.

SamFox

Al Gore's book, featured on this page to my left, is a photoshopped image which has been altered.

BoldThe real question is "Why do Liberals, especially left-leaning liberals, FEAR Sarah Palin?" And why are the articles smearing her so juvenile?

Think people would pay attention to her if she had a bag over her head?

Wake UP!!!

Who is bankrolling Sarah Palin? And why does he/she/they think she's worth the fortune that they're spending on her. I agree with Martha Stewart who said that, "Sarah Palin is boring and she's dangerous". Frank Rich also made accurate observations. But why is she worth it? ANNA

Fear

There is way too much diversity of opinion a,ong today's posters. The groupthink of the leftist media will have to be sold more onvincingly if the current anti-Palin campaign is to succeed within a year.

I have not found a site that devotes as much time and space to Sarah Palin as AlterNet.
The left and so-called "progressives" can't stop thinking about her.
Just try to stop obsessing over her. You can't.
Sarah Palin is winning.

Crybabies
