15 Signs American Society Is Coming Apart at the Seams

Editor's note: The following is an edited excerpt from the Amped Status report, "The Critical Unraveling of U.S. Society."
The economic elite have launched an attack on the U.S. public and society is unraveling at an increased rate. You may have missed it in the mainstream news media, but statistical societal indicators are reading red across the board. Let’s look at the top 15 statistics that prove we are under attack.
1) The inequality of wealth in the United States is soaring to an unprecedented level. The U.S. already had the highest inequality of wealth in the industrialized world prior to the financial crisis. Since the crisis, which has hit the middle class and poor much harder than the top 1 percent, the gap between the top 1 percent and the remaining 99 percent of the U.S. population has grown to a record high.
2) As the stock market went over the 10,000 mark and just surged to a 13-month high, the three big banks that took taxpayer money and benefited the most from the government bailout have just set a new global economic record by issuing $30 billion in annual bonuses this year, “up 60 percent from last year.” Bloomberg reported: “Goldman Sachs, the most profitable securities firm in Wall Street history, had a record profit in the first nine months of this year and set aside $16.7 billion for compensation expenses.” Goldman Sachs is on pace for the best year in the firm’s history, and it is also benefiting by only paying 1 percent in taxes.
3) The profits of the economic elite are “now underwritten by taxpayers with $23.7 trillion worth of national wealth."
As the looting is occurring at the top, the U.S. middle class is just beginning to collapse.
4) Workers between the ages of 55 to 60, who have worked for 20 to 29 years, have lost an average of 25 percent off their 401k. During the same time period, the wealth of the 400 richest Americans went up by $30 billion, bringing their total combined wealth to $1.57 trillion.
5) Home foreclosure filings "hit a record high in the third quarter (of 2009)… They were the worst three months of all time… 937,840 homes received a foreclosure letter" in this three-month period; “3.4 million homes are expected to enter foreclosure by year’s end, with some experts estimating that next year will be even worse.”
President Obama has enacted a $75 billion taxpayer funded program that has been a spectacular failure in stemming the foreclosure crisis and has proven to be another massive waste of billions of taxpayer dollars.
6) 25 million people are unemployed or underemployed.
This means we have 25 million people who urgently need to increase their income, and they’re quickly running out of options. The unemployment rate is expected to rise further and remain high for several years. “The president’s chief economic adviser warned that the nation’s unemployment rate could stay ‘unacceptably high’ for years to come."
The New York Times reports: "Americans now confront a job market that is bleaker than ever in the current recession, and employment prospects are still getting worse. Job seekers now outnumber openings six to one, the worst ratio since the government began tracking….” As this ratio continues to grow, it will lead to a further reduction in wages -- average worker wages have seen a sharp decline over the past year.
Economist Nouriel Roubini, a man who accurately predicted our current crisis, just reported on unemployment stating: “Think the worst is over? Wrong. Conditions in the U.S. labor markets are awful and worsening…. So we can expect that job losses will continue until the end of 2010 at the earliest. In other words, if you are unemployed and looking for work and just waiting for the economy to turn the corner, you had better hunker down. All the economic numbers suggest this will take a while. The jobs just are not coming back.”
7) As the few elite banks thrive, there have been 123 U.S. bank failures thus far this year. Recently, three banks that the government declared “healthy” and gave taxpayer money, have folded. The Wall Street Journal reports: “U.S. regulators have seized or threatened at least 27 banks that got capital infusions from the Troubled Asset Relief Program, including some lenders government officials knew were troubled when they awarded the money. The troubles put taxpayers at risk of losing as much as $5.1 billion invested in the banks since TARP was launched in October 2008.”
8) As bankruptcies surge across the board, 10 U.S. states are on the verge of bankruptcy, with several ready to declare a financial state of emergency. California, Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island and Wisconsin are all “barreling toward economic disaster, raising the likelihood of higher taxes, more government layoffs and deep cuts in services."
9) This is occurring at a time when the “federal budget deficit for the fiscal year that just ended was $1.4 trillion, nearly a trillion dollars greater than the year before." In total, "U.S. public debt topped $12 trillion for the first time in history… The public debt topped $10 trillion in September 2008. The debt is quickly approaching the statutory limit of $12.104 trillion, meaning Congress would have to raise the ceiling to prevent a shutdown of government operations."
Economist Dean Baker explains the risk of running such a large deficit: "The debt limit must be increased at regular intervals in order to allow the government to function normally because the government is currently operating at a deficit. If the debt limit is not passed, then at some point the government will not be able to pay workers and contractors. It won’t be able to send out Social Security checks or make payments for Medicaid and unemployment insurance to state governments. And, it will not be able to make interest payments on government bonds, effectively defaulting on the national debt."
Needless to say, all of this will make life drastically more difficult for American citizens. As the middle class continues on the path of economic decline, the number of citizens living in poverty has already hit an all-time high.
10) Although the government’s official figure tries to low-ball the number, 47.4 million U.S. citizens live in poverty, and the U.S. poverty rate is the highest in the industrialized world.
Predictably, homelessness is rising at an increased rate as well. "The U.S. government does not tally the numbers but interested organizations say that more than 3 million people were homeless at some point over the past year…. The fastest growing segment of the homeless population is families with children.”
Children have been hit especially hard by the economic crisis:
11) * 50 percent of U.S. children, one out of every two children, will need to use food stamps to eat.
One out of every two children in the United States of America will need to use a food stamp… to EAT!
If you didn’t think starvation was a serious threat in the U.S., just read this new Washington Post report: “The nation’s economic crisis has catapulted the number of Americans who lack enough food to the highest level since the government has been keeping track, according to a new federal report, which shows that nearly 50 million people — including almost one child in four — struggled last year to get enough to eat… Several independent advocates and policy experts on hunger said that they had been bracing for the latest report to show deepening shortages, but that they were nevertheless astonished by how much the problem has worsened. 'This is unthinkable. It’s like we are living in a Third World country,' said Vicki Escarra, president of Feeding America."
The United States Department of Agriculture released these findings in a study that was completed in December 2008, which means these numbers don’t take into account the millions more unemployed throughout 2009. The numbers of people living in poverty and struggling to eat has seen a significant increase since then.
This a national tragedy. But it gets much worse.
12) In 2008, according to the Census Bureau, the number of U.S. citizens without health care grew to a record 46.3 million. “The new figures, however, understate the severity of the economic downturn because a large portion of the nation’s job losses and unemployment rate increases occurred after the Census survey data was collected in March as part of the annual Current Population Survey."
13) Lack of health insurance has caused 45,000 preventable U.S. citizen deaths in the past year. The American Journal of Medicine recently released a study that stated, “Nearly two out of three bankruptcies stem from medical bills, and even people with health insurance face financial disaster if they experience a serious illness.”
A Johns Hopkins Children’s Center study reported that 17,000 children have died due to lack of health care. You can also add in a recent report that revealed that 2,266 U.S. veterans have died in 2008 due to lack of insurance.
The 50 million now uninsured and the 45,000 preventable deaths per year statistics are expected to drastically rise over the next few years. As the Senate continues to strip meaningful amendments from a health care bill that wouldn’t even take effect until 2013, it has become clear that, despite the media hype, the health care bill is going to fall far short of meaningful reform and continue to rig the game in favor of large insurance company profits at the expense of the U.S. population. With the highest cost healthcare in the world, current trends will continue and much needed change is not on the horizon.
Never before has the United States had so many citizens with so little means, little to no income and heavy debt. Debt and costs of living have now shackled U.S. citizens just as they have shackled people throughout the world. The economic hit men have now hit the United States as well and millions of American citizens are now effectively sentenced to a slow death.
Economic Imperial blowback has hit the mainland.
And the clock is ticking louder by the day…
And here’s two more facts for you:
14) The gun and ammunition manufacturing industry in the United States has over 200 companies producing billions of dollars in annual revenues. This huge manufacturing base cannot fulfill demand quickly enough. The demand for guns and ammunition has hit a record high and the gun industry cannot produce enough bullets to keep up with orders.
Americans are arming themselves to the teeth!
15) In the past year, 100 new armed militia groups have been formed, as militia members have doubled in numbers. Federal authorities are gravely concerned about the “uptick in militia activities." One federal authority recently said, “All it’s lacking is a spark. I think it’s only a matter of time before you see threats and violence."
So let’s break down these numbers.
You have a population of 50 million people who are in desperate need of money, they most likely have no health insurance and can’t afford to get health care or help of any kind. Part of this population probably also has loved ones who can’t get life sustaining medical treatments, or loved ones who have already died due to lack of costly medical treatment. The clock is ticking loud for these people and they are running out of options fast, and time delayed is time closer to death.
While the richest 1 percent have never had it so good, a significant percentage of the U.S. population now has firsthand experience in this. Millions upon millions of Americans are poor, broke, struggling, starving, desperate… and armed.
We are sitting on a powder keg!
We are now witnessing the critical unraveling of U.S. society.

Those militias are misguided, uneducated, angry, mostly white males, who will most likely blame "liberals" for america's problems. They still suffer from the influential right-wing media delusions that the economic crisis is liberal politicians' fault, or that Obama, the first black president is a socialist who works for the corporate interests (an oxymoron) by bailing out Wall St. bankers.
I genuinely fear the retribution of the angry militias, but this is the crucible that we americans must pass through before we can settle the score with the rich. Keep your head low and pray for peace.

If someone has billions, the American ideal, many others will have less. By rejecting sharing and the common good and embracing greed and unlimited wealth for a few, Americans have created unmitigated disasters here and around the world.
It is hard to feel sorry for a people who lust after too much while wrecking the planet in the process.

People out of work? Masses of people unable to put food on the table? Splintered, ineffectual leadership? Unprecedented political polarization? Rising xenophobia, dehumanizing, and scapegoating minorities? Right wing rhetoric about reclaiming a mythical national identity?
Uh, never mind, must be nothing.
(Yes, I'm generalizing.)

"Will he [Obama] deliver on this promise of change? That remains to be seen. But the success of his presidency, if there is to be one, will likely be measured on how well his policies confront and deal with these seven criteria for revolution. If those preconditions are all still in place in 2012, the fury will have had another four years to rise. And at that point, if history rhymes, mere talk of hope and change will no longer be enough." (www.alternet.org/politics/77498)
This is the second piece like this in 2 days. Somebody at Alternet is worried - and they're not the only ones: both pieces come from somewhere else.
My takeaway from the prescient Sara Robinson article I quoted was a key precondition: disappointment. Promise people "Change!", deliver squat. Or worse. During a serious social breakdown. No wonder they have all those troops learning counter-insurgency. How long would it take to bring them home?
The new point: these people are playing with matches and don't even know it. They're so insulated they have no idea what the people are experiencing - and yes, I do mean the Democrats.

People are concerned there may be more crime if economic conditions worsen.
People have guns in this country because it is an explicit part of the Constitution. The reason it is there is because an unarmed citizenry are more easily bullied by a tyrannical government.
A government that hacks out legislation to appease various Corporate sponsers and special interest groups at the expense of the common welfare of the people is a government that does not represent citizens, and so is a government that practices taxation without representation.
It's only a short distance from tyranny.
These odd recurrent postings on Alternet that pair gun ownership with fanaticism seem to suggest that the thinking behind the bill of rights is wrong, citizens should be unarmed and reply on the intelligent rule of Donkets and Elephants.
This is a bit of condundrum because it is the Donkeys and Elephants that transferred all the wealth to the Corporate elite and assisted in the movement of the REAL economy, the production of goodsm to other countries.
Why doesn't alternate post some articles on solutions to the undoing of the economy rather than go after the remaining rights of citizens.

The fact that this greed and corruption goes unpunished, adds to the feeling that people will need to take matters into their own hands.
Obama's biggest mistake will be to let Bush & Co. off the hook and by doing so, will make themselves out to the cause of it all. In this case, nice guys really will finish last.

While 9/11 (not to mention JFK's assassination) go unpunished, while the criminals behind these events are still in charge, while many in this sad nation live with their heads up their butts, what is left our our ex-sovereign nation is being given over - willingly - to the NWO and the global elite. I guess we get what we deserve, only somehow I had thought we deserved better. And Alternet, by fomenting the view that 9/11 was carried out by Bin Laden and 19 Arabs, is a part of the problem and not part of the solution.

The United States is a snake eating its own tail. Pretty soon it will run out of tail (!) and consume its way to the head.
Unfortunately, Alzheimer's doesn't run in my family. Oh to awaken each day to the world totally anew, or anew every five minutes, depending on the severity of your condition, Senator.
We need to resurrect Jane Fonda in that really good movie about life in the Great Depression, "They Shoot Horses Don't They."

Oh and also, the story about Baxters contaminating a batch of 72kg of the material destined for mass vaccination of many thousands, is almost certainly true, because the company has admitted it.
Of course that doesn't mean, that the flu jab currently being given to millions of kids will kill them, but it is highly unlikely to be beneficial in any way.
This video lasts for 55 minutes. If your attention span cannot last any longer than the time between adverts on "Lost" then take the Flu jab instead. The World IS overpopulated with stupid people.
Have a Nice Day,
Tony

It is time for those who are being hurt most by the rapacity of Goldman Sux and their Kow-towing White House servant, Barrack, to stand up and vote for Third Party Progressive and anti-Establishment candidates. Maybe it would be good, as well, if the employees of Big Government-Federal, State and Local- to stand with the people who are paying their salaries...the people they are supposed to serve...the people who are their kith and kin...and vote for Progressives as well instead of the Corporatist dogs in the Demopublican kennel.
WAY PAST TIME FOR REVOLUTION! BUT, IF YOU CAN'T GET YOUR FAT ARSES TO THE POLLS AND VOTE FOR THE KUCINICHS, THE MCKINNEYS AND THE NADERS...THEN WE KNOW YOU AREN'T RIPE FOR REAL REVOLUTION.
DOWN WITH THE DEMOPUBLICAN-BANKER REGIME! TROOPS HOME NOW!

Are we at the point yet where we're going to stop bitching and start DOING something? Things will not get better until somebody stops bitching and starts moving. Instead of talking about how bad things suck (no shit, sherlock) why don't we start throwing around some ideas on how we come to a viable solution to the problems? Not arguing politics for the sake of arguing politics or history or policy changes... REAL solutions that the average joe or jane can actually do that makes a real and notable difference? And I don't mean calling for a boycott on some multinational company or starting an email campaign to the local sellout politician who represents the corporate interests of his geographic area- REAL action that gets things moving. People are ready for a REAL change- that's obvious from every post you can read- and just impotently talking about it doesn't solve anything. Does anyone have a plan? Does anyone have an idea that works?
If you do, its about time to mention it.

Something about
"We Have Assumed Control"
I think it maybe in the lyrics of a Rush Song...
Something about World Governance By a Completely Unelected Dictatorship...
The most amazing thing about it from my own point of view is how incredibly ugly the Lancashire Girl is who was in the same class at school as my wife...
If they are going to have some unelected bitches in Control of the entire fucking World then is Throwing Up when seeing them part of The Depopulation Process

In 1968 Prof. Domhoff of Univ. of Calif., Santa Cruz (prof. of Political Science) wrote in his book, Who Rules America, that some of the financial elites (that had run the country over the cliff in '29) were livid with FDR for ennacting the "New Deal" and they had vowed to take "their" country back. It took them some 70 years but it is happening now. Suddenly, Alex Jones doesn't seem quiet the "wacko nut job" that he used to be....
If anyone is interested, check Prof. Michel Chossudovsky(spelling may be slightly off) at the U. of Ottawa. He publishes at globalresearch.com. He understands what is happening as well as anyone.

Your statement, for example, that "Millions upon millions of Americans are poor, broke, struggling, starving, desperate… and armed." is ludicrous and silly. Even were Americans to "lose" 80 percent of their money (or wealth), they'd still be eating and living better than 80 percent of the people in the world. We have numerous governmental and voluntary support systems to provide food, medical care, extra money, and other things to people. No one is starving. No one is desperate. This is just bunk.
Yes, the empire is crumbling, but we can still afford two trillion-dollar wars, trillion-dollar stimulus bills for the wealthy, trillion-dollar so-called health insurance systems, and trillions more in totally wasted and unnecessary expenditures to keep warm bodies obese, overly comfortable, and inebriated with junk TV and other entertainment.

How the hell do the musicians do that?
They achieve Studio Quality Sound in a Space So Close The Audience Can Literally Touch Them...
But More Than That - Why Do They Turn Up in Our Little Pub?
I am talking about musicians who play in front of around 100 people in a little pub on a Saturday night, and I get talking to them - often I haven't a clue who they are...
And I no longer think it is bullshit, when they tell me that next Saturday they have got another gig...
So why are you playing here???
They say we like playing here.
It is just so intimate and intense - and the feedback is out of this World...
But how can you compare the feedback from 100 people, to the feedback from 100,000 people?
Tony

"We're exercising our right of freedom of speech and assembly."
"Do you have a permit?"
"No...."
"Then move along. You need a permit...permission from the government...to exercise your rights.
I think there are building a free speech and assembly zone in the basement of the municipal building next spring. Until them you'll just have to wait....now move along."
"No, no, no...the government does not grant rights; it's responsibility is to ensure them."

In USA the Elite can reign thanks to ANGST and FEAR.

Meanwhile mr.Al Gore will have 4 kids and a private jet (I think he is a honest guy)

That supply side is a bogus concept has been exposed by the failure of this economy. You cannot concentrate nearly all of the wealth in so few hands, and then proceed to falsely inflate assets such as housing, college educations, and everything else, while depressing wages and throwing people out of work, and expect to have consumers able to participate.
What we need to do is empower consumers with real money in their hands - then they will go out and buy things and there will be a demand for businesses again. That's how you create jobs. It is symbiosis, not destruction of an entire class of people, that makes a society run well.
Meanwhile this is a failed state in every way, morally, and fiscally, with obscene wealth doing nothing for the rest of us (unlike we have been told it was going to do). The emperor has no clothes. And many have no food, housing or power. No one at the top is listening, to their detriment. No one is brave enough to say enough to the supply siders and tax them into oblivion (which is what they deserve). After all, the opposite policies in which they were way undertaxed and coddled certainly did not create jobs, did it? And we are getting no regulation of the market as should be done and no real help. It truly is a failed state and I fear what will become of us....only an uprising may beat down supply side for good, which would a start. The next step and most important, would be to become morally focused again on humanism, not rogue capitalism and the accumulation of obscene levels of wealth.

Why didn't you hear her on ABCNBCCBSFOXCNNPBS? Where were the Progressives when she was running for office? Where are they today? She spoke truth to power!
She doesn't sound like the smiling faces who give you a dose of happy talk...she is asking the same questions of Obama and friends as she asked of Bush and Company. She is standing up for you...STAND UP FOR HER!! Notice...nothing on reproduction, nothing on sexual orientation, nothing on religion...nothing on all the BS gets neurasthenics so exercised in politics...she talks about freedom...about an end to wars...an end to pillage...an end to corruption....she talks of standing up to the financial elite instead of bending over for them! 1980 to 2007
20 YEARS OF 3 CONSERVATIVE PRESIDENTS
18 years Conservative Senate
12 years Conservative House
6 years Total Conservative Control
Redistribution of Wealth to top 20%.
Folk! It is downhill slide for Middle Class.
FACTS---numbers rounded-
1946--1% owned 30% of Total Wealth
1980—20%--a 33% decline due to Estate Tax and High Top Income Tax Rate.
thence cometh conservatism
1989-36%
80% Increase in 8 years of Reaganism
2007--20% owned 93% of Total non home Financial Wealth
80% owned equity in homes.
Most major corporations are owned by WALL STREET RICH MEN CASINO
Five Wall Street Banks own 75% of all Bank Deposits in America. 5.
Think that is not POWER???
In 8 years of Bush with 6 years of Total Control
They (wall street rich) created a Net New Jobs of 3000 per month.
Why? That is NET. You take the new jobs created and subtract the ones sent to China, etc
3000! Wow!
Bush took over after Clinton had created 237,000 Net New Jobs per month.
Clinton left Bush a spending of 1830 B Per Year.
Bush doubled it to 3600 B.
Bush inherited a 5800B Debt from Clinton. He took it to 11,500B
20 years of 3 conservative presidents did this horrible thing.
Took the Debt of less than 1000B after 200 years and added on 8000B.
In 2009 they are spinning big time to blame Obama for huge debt.
Conservatives will spend millions to coverup their Big Recession.
Much of that 8000B Debt add-on went to WALL STREET GAMBLERS.
The people do not know what has happened to them.
Right Wingers yell Rich Pay most of taxes.
Income Taxes!Yes! They have most of the Income.
Yet! Conservative transferred much of taxation from Rich to Middle Class. Reagan voiding REVENUE SHARING a disaster for Middle Class where taxes were transferred from Rich Income taxes to Middle Class in State and Local Taxes. Was it by design?
Was it a Designed Act of taxation transfer by Conservatives.
In 2008 the Middle Class paid 30% of nominal Income in Federal-State-Local Taxes. Top 10% paid 30% also. Progressive tax system?
Social Security Tax Increase in 1983 was it designed to hit the Middle Class and ease on the rich?
Greenspan + Reagan. 6.2% Tax on Middle Class. One earns $50,000 pays 6.2%. Earns $1,000,00 pays 6.4%. Earns $10,000,000 pays 1/10th of 1%. By design to keep rich rich?
Was Destruction of S&Ls a deliberate act of wealth transfer from 400 local investors to individual Rich on Wall Street?
Key actor Michael Milken became a Multiple Billionaire with income of 550 Million in one year from raiding S&L deposits (plus) for his Rich Corporate Raiders on Wall Street.
Raiders like Perelman and Ichan became multiple Billionaires.
Sweat of Brow? Ho Ho.
Bush I had to borrow 140 Billion on 40 year bonds to pay for the raids on S&L's by Wall Streeters.
140B creates many Billionaires and Millionaires. Depositors money was used by those Corporate Raiders and bankrupted the S&L then the government pay off to depositors by Federal Deposit Insurance created Debt for Middle Class.
RAPE OF MIDDLE CLASS 1980-2007
Same ideology gave us Great Depression now Great Recession.
It is not a Depression due to:
Democratic Social Safety Nets such as
Social Security and Medicare
Only the uninformed vote to send conservatives to Washington.

Workers! Haven't you had a nose full of Democratic rule? Doesn't it have the same stench as that of Republican overlordship? Is the American dream to be put on hold while your sons and daughters fight and die in banker wars?...their school tuitions hiked as much as 30% in one year to pay for the bureaucratization of education in America... their health care left to the dogs?
I know of one young man at a major 'public' university who was just let go from a university job because of budgeting changes...he has no insurance...he has to pay for his own education and will have no roof over his head or way to earn a living in a market where there are no jobs...He is totally forked! This is not right! Yet, the Demopubiicans have trillions of dolalrs to turn over to the bankers while you pay interest on it!! While you have your taxes raised to pay for government budget shortfalls!
LEAVE THE DEMOPUBLICANS IN THE DIRT WHERE THEY ARE MOST COMFORTABLE! REVOLUTION! REVOLUTION! REVOLUTION! DOWN WITH THE DEMOPUBLICAN BANKER REGIME!!

Unfortunately the new administration seems to be following the same path as those of the last 30 years. I consider Obama a trogan horse. He misrepresented his affiliations during the campaign.
I think we have to begin to acknowledge though that with Mexico, Central America, and parts of south America exporting their poverty to our country in mass each year that some of the State financial problems and permanent underclass may be beyond our ability to address. This doesn't even begin to touch the issue of a cash economy the leaves many state services to be paid for by the citizens working and paying taxes for everyone's state services, whether education or whatever. I suspect the same is true for medical premiums.
No doubt the wealthy are the happy recipiants of this trend, but we had better address the flood of immigration along if we want employment, education, and health issues ever to be resolved in this county. Immigration increasingly is becoming a matter of economical suicide for our nation.

Meanwhile the band on this afternoon had a much better philosophy...Look - they weren't crap - they even did Hotel California with two guitars... Now it wasn't completely not perfect - but it was really close? What else can you expect on a Sunday afternoon when Wigan are being beaten 9-1 by some fucking London Club who no one else has heard of...???
And all our Lancashire Friends turned Up...
And we had such an amazing time...
And one of the band's friends did a collection with a beer jug...
And I put a £5 note in it...
And she goes fishing to the bottom of the beer pot - and tries to give me 4 pound coins back...
And I decline...
And towards the end of the afternoon - and it really was like Christmas time - the band start throwing these things to the audience...
And My Wife Screams
"I Want One"
Well I got mine XL size
And so we invite a few friends after wars back to our house to give them bacon butties - and then I get thinking about all these Superheroes who are World Famous and keep turning up in our local pubs when we least expect them
Admittedly it was a bit out in the sticks - but it was a 4 Day Festival, and we were camping - like you do - we hadn't even yet discovered blow up beds - it was 3 years ago - maybe 4...
And we had never heard of the main band headlining on one of the nights...but there were all these 40 year old kids running around dressed like the Evil Drummer...
It was so fucking bizarre - it was like God Worship...
Sure I knew The Drummer And the Bass Player...
And I said to these 40 Year Old Kids..
Why are You All Dressed Like The Drummer?
They Said - Well _ He is Our Hero - We Reckon He is The Best Drummer Of All Time...
And I said No - He isn't as Good as Neil Peart...
They said - No He is Far Better...
I said don't be silly - he plays down our local pub in another band - and the bass player...
And they couldn't believe it - that us mere mortals knew these SuperGods
I said - No - They Are Just Real Normal People...

One thing is readily apparent. The Masters of the Universe were making no plans for the declines in food production that will attend this trend--THEY WERE LEAVING YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES TO STARVE TO DEATH AS COOLING CAUSES DECLINES IN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION!...making no preparations for building up food stores...planning to tax you on carbon to fight a non-existent warming trend as temperatures decline! These people are evil incarnate and Al Gore is their Prince of Fools!
DOWN WITH THE MASS-MURDERING DEMOPUBLICAN BANKER REGIME! TROOPS HOME NOW!

This is not the government for the people or by the people. That means it no longer governs the people.
From our national gathering place, the Internet, and from our local living rooms, we shall slowly and painfully form governments of the people through trial and error, or better yet, through the inventions of many farsighted people.
In a million small humanitarian experiments we shall pull the work force into our own soup kitchens, and then into our own work cooperatives, and then all of our people will have jobs, shelter, food, and healthcare. A few ideologues can go live in the corporate America desert, we won't mind.
Then we demand rights from state legislatures and then Congress the tried and true way, by installing our guys and tossing out deadwood. Every time that we make Congress truly afraid, not of a silly mob riot at a town hall meeting, but of actual de-election, they give the people something.
Then we reform elections so that Halliburton-led coalitions can't buy Congress with campaign donations.

And then you start hallucinating like you are in a field of snow - and you can see the warm house in the distance and then you pass out and you think you are slowly dieing...
And then this Angel, just appears out of nowhere - and puts you in the back of the van...
And you are lieing there with another 10 bodies who also seem to be frozen to death...
And the Angel puts on the heating on in their van, and you slowly wake up and thaw out.

You would learn these things on your own by scanning headlines, reading government reports and talking with your neighbors - and listening too.
The solution to our woes do not lie in arming ourselves to the teeth, but somply shutting down the elite's siphon.

Obama has turned out to be such a one, with a faux-progressive face (now revealed as a neoliberal Wall St. servant). Progressives should channel the people's anger instead of crazies like Beck et al, but it's easier to wave the flag and be on the mythic-membership level afraid of "big guvmnent" and continue to be deceived as to who the elite really is that is robbing you blind.
We need to reinstate Glass-Steagall, undo the credit modernization act of 2000, abolish the FED (see Ellen Brown on this, not Ron Paul), and have a decent progressive third party that stands for democracy and well-being of the whole planet (we're all one - an awareness that escapes so many).

The world is hitting against the limits to growth that geography and geology exibited just prior to the World Financial Collapse, and, the trickle-down theory of wealth distribution is anathema to a world in termimal resource decline. America is in a far worse position than less wealthy countries as transport and the transport of goods comes under increasing stress with the decline of available cheap fuels, and it will only get worse.
The transfer of wealth to the top tier of American society has not produced any credible industrial growth as the wealthy try to insulate their assets from depreciation by hoarding more assets. This is not only not helpful to them it does little for anyone else either. Something will give and a well-armed public short of shelter and food will revolt enmass once the spark hits the gunpowder.
There is little that authorities can do to stave off the ineveitable, but, I have noticed that a lot has been written lately regarding the legalisation, or decriminalisation, of marijuana. The arguments have often been for the added taxable industry that such a measure would ensure, but I wonder that possibly an ulterior motive lies behind the sudden interest. A stoned citizen is less likely to resort to violent measures, perhaps...
One thing is certain, the powers are worried and when the powers are worried we should all be worried.

CEOs and managerial would be 2nd or 3rd tier.
Skilled labor would be 4th tier.
Unskilled labor would be 5th tier.
But even those in the bottom tier would get enough "points" to live decent lives. Not like minimum wage is now, where people barely get by.
Of course everyone would still have to work.
That would be the only way you could earn points.
It would not be a credit system.
Points would be paid the same no matter where you lived.
Why make people suffer needlessly and put them through another Great Depression.
This is just an idea that might stave off the madness brought on by money.
Of course people would be able to keep whatever money they have now with one dollar equaling one point.

The good and the bad travel together, as do the real and the unreal, the image and its grand variety of signifieds.
As I recall in one of S. Amin's books I read a while ago, he mentioned a truism that is quite appropriate to the actual operation and functioning of capitalism: assimilation happens simultaneously with exclusion. These are the "gaps" we're now seeing between those up in that "1-5%" and the rest of us; that sort of vacuum and "empty space" that separates us.
It is what it is. The tumor has wholly absorbed the organism it grew in. It is indeed, as GWH Bush uttered so gleefully in those days when the Berlin-wall collapsed: it's a "new world order". In that order, a whole lot of us are, simply, expendable and fungible throw-aways.
Barbarism has many faces and many ways; I hope we can someday overcome it.

It will dwarf Patrick Swayze and the Red Dawn movie. The largest standing army in the world is not China, but the army of civilians (Americans) who own weapons, particularly in the South who have long been saying “were keeping our powder dry”.
They have long held the Civil War was less about slavery, as it was against Yankee bankers in the Industrial North.
For them, the war is still not over, because that war was rooted in (the old big money of America) meaning nothing has changed, except this time the have’s with the old & new money, has left the social and financial fabric of this country in shambles, and FOX News is blazing the trail as a Paul Revere to mobilize the effort.
These self-proclaimed patriots will demand nothing short of a restoration of what was once a Constitutional Republic with a bill of rights that has teeth in it, which has all but disappeared through an evolution of erosion under the names of Rendition, the Patriot Act and a complicit U.S. Supreme Court that put the final nail in the coffin of this once proud Republic.
The war on terror was to manipulate public opinion to implement a stronger more perverse structural framework for the police state apparatus to dictate more control of its citizens (the real Nazi’s) that actually began with the cultural change that took place during the 1960’s with the Hippie movement and the so called war on drugs.
Those who implemented this (The American Ruling Class) were quite aware that given the wealth that would be hijacked by old and new American money in the names of NAFTA and GAT would ultimately lead to the financial crisis of 2008 and the eventual backlash of an armed citizenry of have-nots who will take it back by force.
Something that was quite predictable and repeated throughout mans history many times, when greed, corruption and the withering away of its social fabric and value system of integrity and humble humanity become lost.
It should not be lost on us, when some years back a high level memo was sent out to commanders in our armed forces to get a pulse on how the rank and file troops would feel about conducting armed incursions into American neighborhoods to confiscate weapons and round up dissidents in large numbers. They don't send out surveys like that as make work for idle time.
They have a need for that information for a reason... Do tell its coming, the writing has been on the wall since the 1980’s when Reagan gutted the unions, and technologies with policy implementation fueled the phenomenon of leveling the global division of labor (globalization) that has all but destroyed the skilled trades of our workforce. This has in turn forced the female half of the typical male female relationship with kids to enter the workforce to make up for the shrinking value of the dollar against stagnant wages when the average working husband made enough to support a family.
Couple that with NAFTA and GAT where so much of former American labor tasks are now outsourced to former third world countries to remain competitive in the global marketplace when faced with paying an American here say 10 to 20 bucks an hour versus paying some Chinaman, Indian, Philippino, labor force $1.75 an hour, and you end up with the American workforce being cut out of the action unless your willing to take an enormous pay cut, which would not even pay your rent in a ghetto in LA.
Game over American Workforce the transformation to maintain healthy communities will take on a whole new paradigm of local resource communes to survive.

The statement about "American's are arming themselves to the teeth" needs some explanation. Firstly, only legal gun owners can do that. Secondly, WHICH Americans are doing it and who has how much? I would personally think it is the giant corporations who fear having to pay taxes or be regulated. They can then give them to all their employees.
What I am most worried about is if all this ammunition buying is JUST because of what Obama said in Pittsburgh and HR 45, then what is going to happen when the demand goes away and the ammunition is worthless, especially to the people who spent their life savings on it? They can't sell it back to the dealers who won't want it so they will sell it to the highest bidder, either legally or illegally. Kind of the same way our federal government works.

Granted, some do die because of these policies, but we're willing to make that sacrifice to ensure continued funding for our serial wars and for corporate "tax relief". These priorities are what make America what it is today.

Been waiting many years for this sham side-show freak of a world class bully called 'America' to finally get it's comeuppance!
And all you sleeping children who found Monday night football and Gucci handbags so much more important than actually giving a damn/doing something about how corrupt your government and the other elites were becoming - I have no pity for you.
The worldwide economic/societal downfall that is coming will be a great cleansing of the planet.
Humans just don't have a long enough perception of time and that fact continues to bring down society after society.

Unfortunately, Alzheimer's doesn't run in my family. Oh to awaken each day to the world totally anew, or anew every five minutes, depending on the severity of your condition, Senator.

Tony

"Do you have a permit?"
"No...."
"Then move along. You need a permit...permission from the government...to exercise your rights.
I think there are building a free speech and assembly zone in the basement of the municipal building next spring. Until them you'll just have to wait....now move along."
"No, no, no...the government does not grant rights; it's responsibility is to ensure them."

They are Not Superheroes or Anything
They are Just Trying To Earn Their Living In One Of The Hardest Professions...
Sure You Might Think Bono is a cunt with his head stuck up his own arse - but how do you know - unless you have met him...???
And someone at the back pipes up...
Tony

One thing is readily apparent. The Masters of the Universe were making no plans for the declines in food production that will attend this trend--THEY WERE LEAVING YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES TO STARVE TO DEATH AS COOLING CAUSES DECLINES IN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION!...making no preparations for building up food stores...planning to tax you on carbon to fight a non-existent warming trend as temperatures decline! These people are evil incarnate and Al Gore is their Prince of Fools!
