10 of the Most Obscenely Stupid Right-Wing Conspiracy Theories and Attacks Against the President

Obama's nefarious plan for the nation's genitals? His evil designs on your children? Here are the most absurd right-wing assaults on the president -- and logic and reason.

Today President Obama gave a speech urging America's schoolchildren to do their homework and stay in school.

Naturally, conservatives have been extremely alarmed about the address, because obviously the president is looking to create a vast army of adorable little zombies that will help him destroy America faster.

All last week, conservative bloggers and pundits gleefully accused the centrist president of plotting to force radical politics on America's impressionable youth, after Florida's Republican chairman Jim Greer said Obama's address would "indoctrinate" children and spread "socialist ideology."

The week of right-wing echo chamber freak-outs led to protests by conservative parents, which put school districts throughout the country in the unenviable position of having to deal with the "controversy": Some decided not to air the president's address; others required parental permission.

So, thanks to the right-wing saviors of America's youth, a bunch of kids have been shielded from the president's dangerous message that learning things is good.

Could this be the stupidest, most irrational way conservatives have tried to tear down Obama? Is it even possible to answer that question?

We've assembled the most absurd, logic-defying right-wing attacks on the president. Some you've undoubtedly encountered before; all are incessantly blared by conservative pundits and shock jocks, while many are cynically embraced by GOP lawmakers.

Assembled together, they illustrate the absurd extremes to which right-wingers are trying to drive the public discourse in their efforts to thwart essential reforms in health care, energy policy and the economy.

The Advent of Socialism/Fascism

Most historians would agree that fascism and socialism represent vastly different ideologies and historical phenomena. But not the historians at Fox News! Since Obama took office, right-wing pundits have lobbed these smears interchangeably, not quite clarifying whether Obama is leading the proletariat to a glorious Utopian Future or trying to bring the master race to world dominion.

Obama's Nefarious Plan for the Nation's Genitals

When news leaked of a CDC report recommending that boys be circumcised as a preventative measure against HIV infection, right-winger conspiracy theorists decided to fret that the federal government would mandate circumcision. Since Patrick Henry isn’t around, it was up to Rush Limbaugh to sound the rallying cry against tyranny: "Leave our penises alone, too, Obama!" roared Limbaugh in a July 24 radio broadcast.

The next day, while discussing an unrelated dispute with Jay-Z, the talk show host said, "I would remind the rapper Jay Z; Mr. Z, it is President Obama who wants mandated circumcision. We had that yesterday. That means if we need to save our penises from anybody, it's Obama."

Needless to say, Obama had nothing to do with the CDC report, and doesn't appear to have ever publicly uttered the word "circumcision." Nor did he recommend the CDC promote circumcision.

None of this, of course, discouraged Limbaugh from running with the best metaphor for white male anxiety in the age of Obama, ever.

The Birthers

Remember when the president invented a time machine and traveled back in time to plant his own birth announcement in a Hawaiian newspaper and forge a certificate of birth proving he was born in the States, all to hide the fact that he's a foreigner from a country filled with scary black people?

That, of course, appears to be the only explanation for why the birther nonsense continues to gurgle up online (even though certain idiots, who for mysterious reasons still have shows on CNN, have finally stopped giving this nonsense the patina of mainstream credibility).

Recently, some birthers on Free Republic argued that the only way to determine the president's birthplace for sure was by checking if he is circumcised. (It would seem that there needs to be a subcategory on this list for these patriots' obsession with the president's penis.)

The Deathers

In America in 2009 -- a time and place where most people have access to a high school education and can read -- a rumor emerged that the overhaul of our terrible health care system would allow the government to put old people to death. This rumor was stoked by the crazy people on Fox News and talk radio, then embraced and propagated by Republican lawmakers and others who are supposed to be sane adults.

"A lot of people are going to die. This program of government option that‘s being touted as being this panacea, the savior of allowing people to have quality health care at an affordable price, is going to kill people." said Rep. Paul Broun, R-Ga, said.

Then there was almost-a-heartbeat-away-from-the-presidency Sarah Palin, who contributed to the discussion by saying that under a reformed health system, the government would have killed her child Trig because he has Down syndrome. (Palin took back the comments after much outcry, but that didn't stop the vocal minority of town hall protesters from screaming about Obama killing old and disabled people all summer).

The End of the Internet?

Cass Sunstein, currently awaiting confirmation to head the Office of Information an Regulatory Affairs, is apparently doing Obama's dirty work on this one. Someone enterprising at crackpot site World Net Daily cherrypicked from a long-ago Sunstein statement, making it sound like he wants government regulation forcing blogs to link to opposing viewpoints.

In fact, as Julian Sanchez writes, in the statement in question Sunstein floated the theory as "food for thought." And then he noted the free-speech issues involved. And then he called the idea stupid and unconstitutional.

Czars

Obama has "czars" in his administration. The word "czar" is Russian, which of course is scary ("Too Russian!" said former Oklahoma Rep. Ernest Istook. "Why not call somebody the Big Boss?").

One of Glenn Beck's favorite things to do is list off and rail against the czars in Obama's administration. Neil Cavuto, Mike Huckabee and others on Fox and like-minded media are also pretty excited about it and have made lots of puns (czar wars!) and wild accusations about Obama's alleged czar shadow army.

Somehow, their balanced take on this threatening phenomena fails to mention that George W. Bush was pretty fond of czars himself, overseeing the creation of a "food-safety czar," a "cybersecurity czar," a "regulatory czar," an "AIDS czar," a "manufacturing czar," an "intelligence czar," a "bird-flu czar" and a "Katrina czar," according to Steve Benen in Washington Monthly.

Our Half-White President Has a Problem With White People?

One would think Obama is pretty OK with white people, since he is half white and was raised by a white mother and grandparents. Beck would disagree.

In July, Beck bizarrely accused the president of having a deep-seated hatred for white people and "white culture," an attention-grubbing overreach that has led to a successful boycott campaign that has cost Beck 57 advertisers.

Beck's offensive statement was only the most extreme iteration of a conservative strategy to sneakily accuse the president of undermining the interests of whites. One other example is the absurd claim that the president is trying to trick white Americans into paying reparations through health reform.

Snitch Site?

A few months ago, the White House made a valiant attempt to help steer the health care debate toward existing things like policy, rather than totally made up crap like death panels. They did so by setting up a Web site where people could submit questions about the wild conspiracy theories circulating about reform.

Naturally, the fringe decided that Obama was asking people to report on their neighbors. And, of course, Republican lawmakers irresponsibly and shamelessly joined the fray, with Texas Sen. John Cornyn, for example, accusing Obama of compiling an "enemies list" and demanding the site be shut down.

An Expansion of AmeriCorps. The Horror!

And finally, what does Obama plan to do with all those kids he brainwashes during his speech today?

Wait, with diabolical patience, until their teeny little arms grow strong enough to wield heavy weaponry so he can draft them into his massive domestic paramilitary force. At least that appears to be a fear held by Beck, who has said Obama's "civilian national security force" is like Hitler's SS, or something Saddam Hussein would do.

Michelle Bachmann warned of a massive effort to herd kids into re-education camps. What were they talking about? The expansion of AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps.

And there you have it: Public discourse in 2009.

That Glenn Beck raped and murdered a young girl in 1990? I've heard neither confirmation nor denial, why won't Beck address this?

The only purpose of going to school is to get grades. Daytime soap rules.

Nothing to learn in school anyway. Homeschool might not be a bad idea. At least I can have plenty of time during the day to eat my favorite foods including beef lasagna and watch the sassy ladies on the daytime soap operas. I was once employed and I felt better educated once I got around to watching the daytime soap operas. Hey, kids need to know the real world. Listening to boring teachers ruins their health. Watching daytime soap operas stimulates their learning. Thank God I still have the teevee to enjoy watching daytime soap when I'm not plumbing.

Teetering on the Edge

I can only hope that reasonable people will come to their senses before we find ourselves teetering off the edge into utter chaos.

What has gone wrong with this country can be traced back to Reagan and the GOP's use of fundamental religious folks to help them gain power in 1980. Since then, our national discourse has gotten more and more polarized.

Why is this the case? Well, as the Founders knew all too well, government and religion do not mix. They lived in a time when the head of State was also the Head of the Church(that's one of histories little ironies that Henry VIII went Protestant only to become the de facto "Pope" of the new Church).

So here we are, heading right back to where we started from it seems. I often wonder if the people out there that are constantly screaming about how bad 'progressives' are realize that it was a progressive agenda in 1788 that led to the freedoms they are enjoying today-just like the rest of us.

If they would prefer a closed society, with Jesus on the dollar bill, then they should be careful what they wish for--just look at Pakistan, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, etc., to see how sorry they would be if that actually came to pass...and how close we are to tumbling over that line because of their rhetoric.

Death Panel Czar

Despite my harsh criticisms of his administration (stealing the primary, bending over for Republicans, turning out to be a god-damned neocon, etc.), President Obama has appointed as his new Death Panel Czar.

Since the Repubs will bloody well say we have death panels anyway, the President and I figure we might as well call their bluff. Just watch the poll numbers surge.

When Obama tells kids to stay in school, he is really trying to destroy home schooling and make little liberal robots of them by crushing them in his propaganda empire.

I'm sure they can convince themselves of that.

Of course Czars go back to Reagan when he appointed the first Drug Czar. The problem with such appointments is that they concentrate authority to the executive branch. This is a growing trend: consider "fast track" trade authority for instance.

But their is legitimate fear that his health care swindle will effectively create death panels inadvertently because he insist that health care be debt neutral at a time that the baby boomer population will drive demand for services up. How will this not result in the rationing of care? At least with "single payer" we would save the 15 to 30 percent that the insurance companies currently horde.

Here's one you forgot. Obama will not Legalize Marijuana under a self-cultivation model: the only model that would effectively destroy the Mexican Drug Cartels which are infiltrating governments in over 230 cities. Instead he is moving forward with a "Government Marijuana Dispensary" model that will raise tax revenue but will keep the cartels in business and will not allow cheap/free medicine for the sick and the poor. He also seems to have no inclination to release Marc Emery for merely selling seeds.

http://www.newagecitizen.com/MERP/RelegalizeNowObama17.htm

This is not quite what Jesus would do, now is it?

And, yes, there are still some legitimate questions about his eligibility to be our president. Why won't he just release the original birth certificate?

The real problem here is that both Obama and Alter-net are financed by globalists or trans-nationalists: people that don't give a crap about the American People.

And that, my friend, is no conspiracy.

Many are not understanding the Republican and conservatives legitimate concern in regard to Obama's proposed speech. It is clear that he is going to strongly advocate in favor of doing homework, learning the lessons being taught, graduating from high school, and consider going on to college, etc. to better prepare oneself to succeed in the world. Look at the demographics of the red states vs. the blue states. If we were to have these innocent children take his message to heart and actually learn to study issues and make educated decisions on their own, it could be devastating to the Republican party. This diabolic plot to educate our country's children is obviously a partisan attack by the Democrats and the damn liberals, and must be stopped at all cost. Keep your children home....and your wife barefoot and pregnant while you are at it.

Willie Gueist said anyone who is a 'truther' should be "automatically disqualified."

Now their reporter says "there is no way he could defend that" speaking of the president about Van Jones signing a 9/11 petition asking for an investigation.

They sure are saying a big "fuck you" to all the intelligent people in the audience. It is making me very angry to listen to their wall of propaganda.

Can Alternet be ignorant enough to post articles like this
Posted by: james108 on Sep 8, 2009 5:33 AM
Current rating: 2    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
So far I've not seen Alternet give one credible conservative criticism of Obama, though there are many. It keeps trying to paint conservatives who disagree as far right. I'm sure there are plenty of those too, though I've not met any, and definately not as many as the rational people that have serious, credible concerns; concerns Alternet has echoed at times and then glossed over when addressing other people's concerns. So Alternet's editors aren't ignorant, more it's like they feel like they're the only ones allowed to criticize "their guy".

Anyway, all fascist governments started out pretending to be socialist to some degree, and in the people's interests. That's why they're associated together because they almost always happen together, even if they're just pretending to be socialist. Most who've read up enough know they are two different things, but what we have is the rise and escalation of a fascist government pretending to be socialist to get "liberals" to cover for it. The public option is the perfect example of a fascist substitute for socialism, and you have some people practically begging for it.

Actually, there is little difference between Fascism and so-called "Socialist" when where the latter is a dictatorship. All the more so between Nazi Fascists and Socialism, remembering Nazism means National Socialism. (Note, not all Nazis were (are?) Fascists.)

For example, there was little difference between Hitler and Stalin save that they fought on opposing sides ... after they'd been allies for carving up Poland.

"Could this be the stupidest, most irrational way conservatives have tried to tear down Obama?"
Posted by: Beck on Sep 8, 2009 6:19 AM
Current rating: 3    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Well, that's so hard to judge. I've read all the crazy items mentioned right here, all strenuously argued in favor of. And some others. Obama's going to kill our elderly? Commenters right here today have vociferously argued that, with Page 425 their proof. This article left out that new omission that is another sign of decay: No more "So help me God" in the oath. Amazing that people who claim to be Democrats are so worried about that, but no worries. It's another lie. All of these things are so quick and easy to google.

One comforting thing about strings of crazy lies: you know the liars have nothing real to work with. What's absolutely not comforting? They're believed far too easily. And they move on with total ease if they sense there's no payoff in any certain lie. No one nibbling on the hook of Obama killing mom and dad? Just toss out that "so help me God" has been removed from the oath. It won't matter, it never matters, what comes to pass and what doesn't. Being repeatedly wrong is never any indication to these liars that they are unreliable. Just come up with the next lie, then the next one. Nothing ever has to be true, ever.

It's Not About Policy, It's About Fear of Loss of Control
Posted by: Ulerian on Sep 8, 2009 6:18 AM
Current rating: 4    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
I think that the thing to remember here, when confronted with these seemingly senseless and illogical attacks by the right-wing on Obama and his proposed actions, is that trying to address these accusations on a logical, intellectual basis is a misdirection of good energy. These tantrums aren't about policy at all. It wouldn't matter what the President is proposing, or how well he proposes it. It's not about logic, or reason. To try to address their accusations in this way is akin to trying to reason with a child throwing a tantrum. These people feel like they have lost control when "their" team lost the White House. How do we deal with a child throwing a tantrum? We give them a safe place to vent and then talk to them when they've gotten it out of their systems. We let the children exhaust themselves, but prior to that point, they need to know that the parent is there for them, that their needs will be met. We support them emotionally, not intellectually, at least not at first. If we see them in this light, then perhaps it wouldn't be so baffling. Obama needs to let these people know their concerns are being heard, that they have an impact on the process, that they are not powerless, as they fear. Taking this approach and addressing the underlying issues directly would, I think, do much to defuse this situation. I would also like to remind people that some pretty wild accusations and attacks were circulating about the Bush Administration during their tenure in power, as well. Such behavior is not limited to that side of the political fence. Politics may be one of the most polarizing activities we engage in, after all.

Since this is what passes in this nation as "discourse", "dialog" and "debate"! I don't know when the "DUMBING DOWN of Americans" began, but I realize that it has taken a hold of far too many.

When did people stop thinking, using common sense, tying words to actions and responsibilities? I just wish someone would allow me to be on a death panel, I could think of quite a few names that might be on the list!

When people are really ready and willing to honestly and truthfully discuss the issues, and not spew forth the talking points of Corporate America, that has bought the very politicians and (should be) disgraced talking heads, then we can have an honest discussion!

BAD media root cause

Our country has gone nuts.

I personally think the root cause is bad media. These folks are stoked by media-with-an-agenda that keeps spreading hysterical lies.

If the media were half-way responsible, we would not have this many nuts. Well, they might still be nuts but they wouldn't be THIS nuts.

Media consolidation has ruined this once great country. Bringing back the fairness doctrine is not enough, even if they had the balls. Until this country gets a responsible media, things will just get crazier.

Luv,
Granny

We find it right here

It is so ironic to hear the question of fascism discussed on Alternet! The groupthink revealed here regarding religion (as just one example) demonstrates the beginning of fascism. You do not have to have an opinion at all regarding religious people having political power to be a thinking liberal/progressive/statist, yet it always comes up here that as good open-minded people, we of course have to hate religion, distrust religious people, and swallow the line that the GOP is inbred with religious activism. If you ever read the comments of the religious people in the blog world the last fifteen years, you'd know that they have completely given up on the GOP, and actually had learned to distrust the GOP while Reagan was still in office. Yet every single article here brings out the bleaters that the mean old churchy folk should be swept up and pushed away forever. THAT is fascism.

The GOP has always had room for religious diversity. Go to a GOP meeting and you will not hear everybody saying the same things about religion, abortion, gay rights, or the role of government in the economy, or many other things.

Meanwhile, among the Left, "diversity" is a string of people who look different on the outside but believe everything exactly the same on the inside. There's your hint about which way the moderates are going to go in the next election cycle.

I have never heard of some of the stuff on this list, but if Obama read with a critical eye the things those under him have said or written into the health ins. bill, he'd see that most of his troubles with the voters are his own fault. Periodic discussions of end-of-life strategies? Administrative severing of access to the Internet? Gov't tinkering with our rights tp reproduce? We never imagined them until Obama came along, and all of these and more have been placed in the public discussion by administration people.

socialist vs fascist

Most communists agree that fascism is very different, and vice versa, but to democrats, two totalitarianisms look very alike, and both resemble Catholicism -- people seem to make the jump of allegiance much more easily than between any of them and social democracy or the Society of Friends.

I doubt if the dimwits at Fox News are aware of it, but they could make that bit of their line sound stronger by pronouncing Nazi in full: Nationalsozialist. Remember Hitler's evil spending on infrastructure like the Autobahns, instead of trusting the Sacred Market Forces?

If the crazy right push your thinking into a box as narrow as theirs, they have won.

Now Tell Me Race Has Nothing to Do with It...
Posted by: madmac10 on Sep 8, 2009 7:47 AM
Current rating: 4    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
This school speech was the last straw for me. I can hardly imagine how Obama would deal with it. If I were Obama, I'd gladly abdicate any responsibility for the American people after this point. It makes absolutely no sense to try and save this nation after this point.

That people brazenly get away with the nastiness that they have perpetrated over this past year has fully convinced me that this is purely about race. Here is a man who is doing exactly as any moderate would expect, not to say as any other president has done throughout history. And yet they froth after him like no one else in history (Slick Willie, I'm looking straight at you!) Even the president who was closest to being Socialist (FDR,) and who did face a huge opposition (I'm not denying that) was never subjected to a fraction of the vitriol Obama has been slandered with. And if he gets through the next three years without facing violence of one sort or another, well, I'll hold my tongue in hope it won't come to pass ...

It reminds me of the time I saw a documentary about tourists who were put out by Native American protesters at Plymouth Rock on Thanksgiving. How dare those ingrates interrupt their holiday with such whining! That has solidified my opinion about the common American. Now, with the obviously racist methods they are using to turn on the one man who could lead them out of the mess they are in, well, I just give up on them!

Let them jam Guitar Hero to the strains of a corporate plutocracy. They'll only be living 50 years or so -- if they are lucky (or incredibly rich.) I've completely lost faith in the American people, and don't believe they will be ready for an African-American leader for another century--if at all.

After listening to all the crazy rhetoric coming from conservatives since Obama's election I have come to the conclusion that there is nothing they won't believe about Obama no matter how absurd or asinine. "He's a secret Muslim!" "He wants to kill grandma!" "He wants to enslave our children!" The idiocy goes on and on. I have a right-wing friend in Ohio who truly believes that Obama is going to force everyone to become a Muslim before he leaves office. I have tried to point out, in a friendly way, that only a total moron would believe that. But she still does. (Logic and facts don't phase her. She is the perfect Republican.)
What really bothers me is that the mainstream media doesn't counter this nonsense by saying it is crap. They just report it as if it had some merit. "Some Americans believe---" I fear for this country. God knows what kind of Right-wing lunatic the Republicans will nominate in 2012.

Those parents who are not letting their kids
watch Obama's speech to the school kids, most
likely dropped out of high school, have low paying jobs or no job. Does the phrase "trailer
trash" come to mind? How about "home school"
The problem with home school is the student only hears what the parents want him or her to
know. I just heard that a mother in Texas is keep her kids home from school so they can hear
the President speak.

They tried to destroy FDR's presidency, Clinton's presidency, and now, Obama's presidency. The lies may be a little different, now, but the poison's the same.
Having absolutely NOTHING of a positive nature to boast about, this gang of cannibals is forced to broadcast lies, dirty lies, and damned lies in a pathetic effort to gain some influence in public debates.
To hell with the sorry lot of them.

check out "The Family the secret fundamentalism at the heart of American Power" by Jeff Sharlet. You will have so many emotions but the strongest will be fear. If nothing else look up the Family and what it is all about. It was co-founded by Erik Prince's (of the famed Blackwater), dad . While I am recommending reading material also read BLACKWATER. That one will also make you shake in you shoes. The Family has long tentacles into things you probably never dreamed of. Some deeply involved Gov Sanford, Ensign, Vitter, Coburn and many many more. George Bush not that into it! They admire Hitler, Stalin, Mao, the Mafia because of the one man leadership. They claim to be religious but as I see it it is fake. Their goal is to take over the world and the Republicans in the Congress are trying to KILL democracy to their ends. As I re-read this I look like a crazy person but I assure you I am not. See what others have to say about "the Family" before you write me off as a nut.

What IS Obama doing?
Posted by: Prinzowhales on Sep 8, 2009 9:10 AM

Following in Bush's footsteps, he's kept the Patriot Act despite campaign promises...He's put lobbyists into government, despite campaign promises...He's continued and expanded Bush's wars, despite promises...He's refilled the regime with CFR'ers, Trilateralists and other running dogs of the international bankers, despite promises of 'change'...He's provided the financial intermediaries like Citibank and AIG with trillions of dollars...He's keeping NAFTA, but his empty promises regarding re-negotiation was revealed when his Skull&Bones supporter assured Canadian leaders that Obama was just blowing smoke up the unionist's backsides. with his anti-NAFTA rhetoric.
Is this all the left hand of corporatism can do?--Attack what the sillies in the corporatists' right hand are saying? So pseudo-Leftists can bleat and bleat and bleat about what the likes of Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh have to say?...Who cares?

And what is Obama doing?...He's talking to the school children...how sweet...how caring...millions losing their homes and employment...debt soring...borders open...wars going...taxes increasing...corrutpion unbridled..."I know what to do!--I'll address the children!"

Charley Sheen has asked to meet with Obama and present the documentation of why we need a new investigation of 9-11...you can see his article at infowars.com. Even the 9-11 Commission members have called their own work a joke. But, Obama fulfilling the promises one would expect of a third Bush term remains adament in his refusal to deal with the murder of nearly 3,000 Americams on 9-11--a crime for which the FBI, through its spokesman, Rex Toomb, said they did not have enough evidence against Osama to attribute 9-11 to him.

9-11 was an inside job! Pelosi, Obama and associates are covering up the crimes of Bush and Cheney.

All of this nonsense is a simple, yet powerful way to clutter the public sphere, not leaving any room for real, constructive dialogue. And it's working brilliantly: people in the know have to spend all their time and energy combatting lunatics.
After talking with a friend of mine yesterday, I'm ready to give up on humanity. Try and save the children and the animals. F everyone else; they're too stupid and gullible to live. Let capitalism crumble into a giant, deadly pile of debris and start over...but I'm afraid that might not work either..

that Saddam Hussein was a Ronald Reagan "Freedom Fighter". Stupid Republicans can't even remember which tyrants they used to support around the world before the relabeled them "Terrorist's".

As for czar's, it was the wife and political party swapping Reagan that began the whole "Czar" idea with his joke of a "Drug Czar". Stupid Republicans can't remember the Extreme "Mental Cruelty" as Reagan's first wife accused him of to marry a 3 month pregnant Nancy, who first coined the whole "Czar" idiom in the first place.

Don't blame Obama for appointing Czar's you GOP (Greed & Oppression Party)scum, when the self-appointed Bu$h II cabal had several "Czar's" running around its administration.

How Do You Combat Liars and Fools?
Posted by: djnoll on Sep 8, 2009 10:42 AM
Current rating: 4    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
You don't. You move on in ways that are still open to you in this democracy. (note: I did not say a free democracy, because I am not so sure it exists anymore in this country which seems have put a price tag on freedom.) What do I mean? Here are a few examples:

1. You run for your local school boards. You let people know as you run that school bond issues will allow your school district to opt out of No Child Left Behind and other federal programs as long as you can support public education effectively enough to meet state standards. This is legal and can be done if parents and others within the community understand that it will get the Fed out of their school system, and allow them to direct how their children are taught and what books and supplies are made available to the children. You let them know that teachers will be held accountable for teaching, not coaching, their children so that they can excel in life. You let them know that school facilities can be upgraded if school bond issues are passed to insure the safest, best equipped environment for their children.

2. You run for your town councils, and you run on a platform that each community has the autonomy to determine if it will be sustainable or if it will be a corporate town that allows companies like Wal-Mart or Pfizer or Monsanto or BofA to determine town policies and control town development. Explain that if the citizens want the right to determine how their cities will develop and grow, then they need to know that their words will be heard and not drowned out by corporate interests.

3. Run for state offices. Run on a platform of sustainable government for the meeting of citizen needs. Run on a platform of a state universal health care plan that will cost less than 1/5 of what current private insurance runs and is different than Medicaid in that it is not subject to Federal intervention. Make it a program/policy platform that shows people how they will benefit and how they can save money without sacrificing good health for them and their families. Run on a platform of using the county seized abandoned homes that Banks have also abandoned to create new low income, affordable home ownership through a quasi-homesteading program for the homeless. Run on a platform of state subsidies for farmers, not to not grow items, but rather to grow organic food for the people of your state.

You get the idea. Work your way up the food chain of politics, addressing those issues that are important to you and your family. Go door-to-door and talk face-to-face with people. Get your friends and your family members to help. Make the effort on evenings and weekends to talk to groups at churches and public gatherings. Get your message out. Forget the fools and liars. Ignore the smear campaigns and answer questions about issues and give facts and truth to those who will listen.

If all thinking, reasonable Americans were to take the time to make this kind of effort, we could make our voices heard over the din of liars and fools. It is important that we remember that a democracy, a free democracy, is only as strong as the willingness of her citizens to maintain its basic principles and work to support them.

Our country was designed around a Constitution that begins with We The People.
Our nation will only be as strong as our willingness to step up to the plate and see things are done right.
We have allowed big corporations to become 'entities' which is the same as saying they have to rights as citizens of this country. That means they have all the rights that you have but because they are corporations with lots of lobbying money, they have more rights than you. We have allowed these big corporations to merger and balloon into huge over reaching complexes that control all areas of our daily lives. They've taken over our money, our media, our farms, our lands, our water, our telephones, our electricity and our fuel supply, and we sit back and listen to the nonsense they spew and we argue among ourselves.
It is time for WE THE PEOPLE to step up to the plate and return America to its rightful place as a Democracy of We The People.

Our President

The President is our compass on a ship with no rudder.

The left is paddling one way and the right is paddling the opposite. The people with the real control are perfectly happy with the status quo of going in circles. The only way for this country to get anywhere is through cooperation. That means putting a stop to painting with such broad brushes. ie the right wingers all think... or the Liberals are all trying to... We need to realize that not everyone will ever agree to something and we need to address their opposition with facts instead of demonizing them for disagreeing. This goes for both the left and the right. This means pointing out errors, ommisions, stretching the truth or flat out lies even when your own side does it. Often times articles on Alternet will blast the right for doing something that the left is doing as well. ie "astro-turfing". Hypocrisy hurts ones credibility especially when it's obvious.
As to how this relates to the article? Some left sites point out that Bush also had addressed school kids in a similar fashion but fail to mention the lefts opposition to the address. Also the left has it's own wild conspiracy theories... you know what I'm talking about. To say it will bring a rash of negative comments. (hush whisper...truthers)

Republicans offer Americans the best dirty tricks
Posted by: yankee2 on Sep 8, 2009 12:46 PM
Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
I'm sorry, but that is the pattern I see emerging: the Republicans, and conservatives in general, want to win by any means necessary, and true to form, the truth and true performance don't matter to them.

All they care about is advancing their oppressive, larcenous agendas at any cost - to the American people that is. They have one main plan: to pump as much of society's wealth in their private pockets as possible.

Don't expect "socialism" from them! Instead, look for corporatism, aka economic fascism. Corporatism is a bit like socialism, except that under corporatism, the rich take support from the poor, by force if necessary. Doubt me? Did you just fork over $700 Billion in public money to corporations WILLINGLY?

Don't expect THEM to ever use these words - it's these very connections they don't want us to make. But THAT is what they are really up to.

I have this caricature in my mind of Obama with a "sold" sign on his back running towards the right. Those on the right keep trying to move farther right of hitler to make Obama appear "left". It's all about falsely framing our choices. This article simply tries to trick disaffected voters who are leaving Obama and his party for letting them down. Sorry but people don't care about what the rightwing says. They already know what crap they'll invent. The concern is what does Obama have in mind to lead the way out of all this mess? NOTHING it seems. Instead, leave to Congress to goof up, fly around the world, play golf, give a stupid school speech, pull a Raygun and Dubya and campaign out there lying about how everything's hunky dory, etc ... None of the weird crap in this article will stoke fear in people to come back and support Obama. Unemployment keeps rising, the mortgage crisis isn't dying, the wars keep going on with more people to send in when they can't find employment, etc ... Raising silly fears about right wing conspiracies just to desperately salvage Obama's rapidly losing support only makes it worse. Either Obama stop playing kissyface with the religious, military, and corporate interests in Washington or prepare to be made to step aside in 2012 !

Obama told school children today that the country can afford to insure all Americans and that doing so will save money in the long run.

Just couldn't help pushing his agenda on our kids, could he?

I can think of at least 3 other responses that would have been more appropriate. Here's one: "Well, little Johnny, that is something we are looking at and hope to have an answer on that very soon."

But no - HE LIED TO OUR KIDS AND TOLD THEM THE U.S. CAN AFFORD IT. HE DIDN'T TELL THEM WE ARE $11 TRILLION IN DEBT! HE DIDN'T TELL THEM THAT EACH OF THEM WILL HAVE TO PAY OFF THAT DEBT.

HE DIDN'T EVEN TELL THEM THAT SENDING TROOPS TO AFGHANISTAN IS GOING TO INCREASE THAT DEBT, EVEN IF WE TAKE TROOPS OUT OF IRAQ.

Now, that my friends, is obscene.

The conspiracy theorist's theorist
Posted by: yankee2 on Sep 8, 2009 1:41 PM
Current rating: 4    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
I'm getting a bit tired of people using the term "conspiracy theorist" so loosely. It's gone way of "terrorist" - it means practically nothing close to what it once meant. Nowadays, just as every potential enemy of the American state is labeled a terrorist, some, especially on the right, proclaim every criticism against them to be conspiracy theory.

Do we think that just because the phrase is catchy, that there are no REAL conspiracies? THAT would be foolish. In fact, what do you think all those corporate executives and executive committees are doing, if not conspiring to get their way, often against democratic laws and principals?

The first thing we should know is that there ARE conspiracies. People DO get together and plan things, but usually they just collude - they operate in ways that serve themselves, knowing that others are doing the same thing, and knowing that that will get them their way. This becomes a problem when the result of their cooperation contradicts their expressed positions, and hurts other people, or sabotages public policy.

It is my belief that the right, conservatives in general, and Republicans in particular, too often succeed in dismissing claims against them as "conspiracy theory." Very often there IS a conspiracy, though sometimes subtle and even unspoken. Yet you can be sure that the conspirators, at least the brighter ones, know exactly what they are doing. And they also know full well that as difficult as conspiracies are to prove, they can almost always get away with it.

When the right calls criticisms against them "conspiracy theories," it depends upon knee-jerk responses from their literally stupid, or ignorant, knee-jerk constituencies to back them up. And unfortunately, they do.

We can be pretty sure that when the right in particular (the left rarely indulges in such crap) screams that someone is a "conspiracy theorist," chances are that there is, in fact, a conspiracy. And you can be pretty sure that that conspiracy puts money in the pockets of capitalists, and steals money from the public.

If we recall that democracy works to protect the people from power, it should not be too hard to understand how democracy operates against, and is in fact generally opposed to capitalism. And from there it should not be too hard to believe that capitalists try to sabotage democracy whenever it suits them.

Who thinks that the right's efforts to sabotage our democracy, "of, by and for [the] People," is a conspiracy theory? It is not a theory, but it IS, in fact, a carefully considered, fundamental conspiracy, by the right-wing corporatists on one side, and for their advantage, and against the American public, on the other, to their unending disadvantage.

death panels: real or hyperbole
Posted by: leonardfeingold on Sep 8, 2009 1:48 PM
Current rating: 3    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
The progressives take offense at the charge of death panels.
Yes, it is hyperbole but there is meat here that progressives ignore with their religious faith that govt control of health care is nirvana.

Facts of govt health care in other countries:

In England, if you had macular degeneration which leads to blindness, you were only allowed treatment of one eye(recent overturned)

In Sweden where polticians are apparently honest, the prime minister waited 13 months for a hip operatoin. (I waited one month in the USA in phila)

3. We know about 30,000 Canadians comes to the US for hip replacements, cancer treatment and other serious problems where time to treat is of essence.

I only mention these facts to indicate that how we do health care is not to be done by slogans and that is exactly what the left does. Slognas and not careful attention to the facts. So although no death panels, rationing has been the outcome of govt insurance in other coutnries and rationing is a form of increasng suffering and in some case hastening death.

Lenin tood advantage of the good intentions of well meaning people and pitched propaganda to them knowing full well in his words they were useful idiots. Are progessives "useful idiots"

should be allowed to continue their foolish ranting and raving because it shows Americans how truly imbecilic they are. I only worry about one thing and that is the ability of these crazies to spawn violence against the President. He must be protected at all costs because he is the only hope for a better world and he is the choice of a majority of Americans as their president and no nutcase should be able to thwart the will of the American people.

If you didn't get to the gym today, you can get your workout on townhall.com---see article by Lorie Byrd "Becoming the Mainstream Media" and check out the Comments thread that follows. Byrd's premise is that the MSM have sold out America through left bias that ignores "the real news" and that is why they are failing. The new MSM, she says, are the "alternative media" of the right, such as Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Matt Drudge. Comments run a basic theme that Beck and Limbaugh are motivated by a great and holy passion for truth. I've gone a few rounds and must now go do the laundry. Would somebody else please take a shift? Thank you.

Worthless distractions

I'm sure we could have found some funny things on Bush, but why was it dumb to focus on those things with him and not Obama? Is it we're against being sidetracked with Bush or republicans, but are helping sidetrack the real issues with Obama?

The way I see it, the silly stories are distractions of the way they're trying to harm the public on health care and war profiteering, and they way the dems are just as much in the pocket as pubes.

It seems bipartisan means combining the lobbyists from both sides, and ignoring the real progressives and conservatives from either.

One more silly remark about Obama turning the country socialist...

Under socialism, people pay taxes to finance "common good" programs. Where is the outrage against those socialist programs we already have, like public schools and police and fire departments, dams and highways? Want traffic lights? Start setting up those bake sales to earn enough money to buy one. No more socialist government handouts! And forget about parks and public libraries! They're all solidly socialist programs -- "common good" programs financed with taxpayer dollars, and all are under a degree of government control.

The Bush Presidency should be known as the disappearing presidency. When the twin towers were hit Bush DISAPPEARED. The Iraq nuclear missiles DISAPPEARED. The CIA tapes of interrigation DISAPPEARED. Bush was nowhere to be found when 'shotgun Dick' disclosed that Valerie Plame was a (covert) CIA agent which was classified information. When our embassy in Serbia burned Bush DISAPPEARED. Bush's Robber Baron presidency has made our money DISAPPEAR. With Voodoo Economics Georgie has made most of our jobs DISAPPEAR. But what would happen if Bush really disappeared? Can you imagine 'Deadeye Dick' with his finger on the nuclear trigger? If that were to happen everyone might just DISAPPEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He did manage to APPEAR just long enough to lobby for and sign into law CORPORATE WELFARE for the international banks. Goodbye Goofball Georgie, have fun in Texass.

Can someone tell me why a young American girl

giving birth in a foreign country would have a baby that would not be classified as an American citizen? We have perverted the 14th Amendment to "Americanize" all babies born in the USA--even when both parents are illegal aliens. (The 14 Amendment was actually written back in the 1800s to give citizenship to all slaves and their children.) A Jew is classified a Jew if the mother is a Jew--no matter where the child is born or who the father might be. So where is it written that the offspring of an American woman would not be an American? And if it is written otherwise somewhere, it needs to be amended--immediately.

You all do remember the "War Czar", right? W made the case he needed someone to coordinate/watch over the Iraq & Afghanistan wars so he made a big deal and put in place a "War Czar" back in May 2007. He was Lt. Gen. Douglas E. Lute. Immediately after the big build-up, you never heard of him again; like he dropped off the face of the Earth. Well, I found out while Googling this to get his name, Lt Gen Lute was still the War Czar in January 2009 according to the Huffington Post. And regardless of his continued existence, I defy anyone to tell me one thing the "War Czar" actually did/does.

It's well known that most European men have never been circumcised. In fact only 30% of the world's men are, most of them Muslims, followed by US Americans, then Filipinos, South Koreans, tribal Africans, older Commonwealth citizens, Jews, Polynesians and Australian aboriginals. The rest of the English-speaking world tried it, found it did no good, and has pretty much given it up.

But for red-blooded Americans demanding genital freedom, here's your bumpersticker.

$900 billion? NOT reforming health care will cost about $4.3 trillion by 2018

For those people who got their panties in the bunch about us not being able to afford the $900 billion to fix the health care- see what NOT changing the health care will cost us:

$4.3 trillion/year in 2018. (projected cost in study by Kaiser (yes, study by insurance company). If we can't afford the $900 billion, we surely can't afford to sit on our hands for that.

As is, our health care is the most expensive in the world - 17.6% of GDP for 2009, compared to 7%-10% of GDP in all other developed countries. You know, the ones that do have universal health care and/or public options. And, they spend 1/2 less to cover *everyone*.

How hard *is* it to see that something must be done??

Seriously folks.

We know the right wing throws turd-bombs at us. They scrap; they fight dirty.

This is THEIR waterloo. We are threatening to topple them over for good, they think. THEY ARE THINKING - "we can't lose THREE ELECTIONS IN A ROW..."

Yes, their butts were kicked in the last two elections.

And still, we are more numbered. We have the people's, not the politics', cause.

Health care is the big dog in this fight. Sane people, by far the majority, want healthcare reform. To fight it is to deny that.

They know this. Yet they make the case. They are the little dog, trying to growl and bark. They raise a big fuss. Make it more difficult. They are at the yapping, hair-pulling and eye-gouging stage at its worst.

Their fuss, their big wind, has pushed the democrats big tent roof awry. Over a few feet. Polls show the needle moving back toward the middle.

Back to the dogs - What does the big dog do? Turn and say, the bone wasn't worth the fight? Or realize what is going on, put out a stiff arm, put his weight down, look the little dog in the eye, and say, enough, you're done!

And mean it.

What 's up, people.

Can we handle a few loudmouths? A few lying loudmouths?

They moved the line with a fuss. We push back. Fire back. When they make a fuss, we make a bigger one. They lie, we don't.

Truthfully mark and fire.

People, not politics, folks. Republicans lie and people die.

Nothing to learn in school anyway. Homeschool might not be a bad idea.

Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]

No wonder America is in bad shape.........

Luv,
Granny
