Number Two Senate Repub Proves Absolutely Everyone Wrong About Health Debate

I thought that the biggest difference between the current health reform debate and that which took place during the Clinton Wars of the early 1990s was that this time around nobody, but nobody, was able to defend the status quo. That changed the whole game and was why we were supposed to trust the disease care industry with a seat at the table and blah, blah, blah. 

Hell, even Karen Ignagni, head of America's Health Insurance Plans, the industry's leading lobbying group, swore with a straight face that "Nobody here in our industry is defending or wants the status quo" (her fingers were no doubt crossed).

Which kind of makes this so odd:

Asked by ABC News about a package of insurance market reforms that have been endorsed not only by President Obama but also by the insurance industry, Sen. Jon Kyl came out against all three proposals.

In particular, the Arizona Republican signaled that he opposes requiring insurance companies nationwide to provide coverage without regard to pre-existing conditions; requiring them to charge everyone the same rate regardless of health status; and requiring all Americans to carry health insurance.

These are among the proposals put forward by the insurance lobby itself in an attempt to stave off real reform.
