You know where babies come from. You don't want them. Take charge of your own life. I feel quite certain that no woman who got to know you would want your child, anyway. And you obviously don't want the child of any woman that would stoop to having sex with you, kind of like not wanting to join a club that would have you as a member. I guess this endless hypothetical "you mean, mean women want my rights" is your substitute for the real thing, a real relationship that might lead to some dilemma in your life, some messy situation of the kind humans get faced with from time to time. But you always held the reigns. Anyone who makes it as clear as you do that you do not want a pregnancy should have no trouble at all avoiding one. And if you do want a baby ever (god forbid), that will be manageable, too. You will be able to find a woman who wants a baby as well.

This dreadful situation you fantasize about apparently endlessly is one of the easiest things in life to handle. You don't want a baby, right? Vasectomy? No sex? No vaginal sex? This is easy, dude. What you won't admit you apparently want is (again, hypothetically) all the casual sex you want with no consequences. Sorry, that day is done. You're living in dreamworld anyway. It seems very doubtful that what your life is full of is endless women wanting to ensnare you after seducing your poor, helpless self.

Here's your problem. Men aren't forced to have sex and ejaculate inside of women. If you have sex, pregnancy is a potential consequence for BOTH parties involved. Everybody knows that going in. That's why you have no case here. A condom would be less expensive, less time-consuming, more logical and less absurd than whatever antics you're railing against.

You can have a whole lot of "sovereignty" over your life be making responsible sexual decisions and using birth control. Pregnancy doesn't just "happen" on its own, you misogynist.

Their aim: to catch a Planned Parenthood staffer or volunteer violating the law by counseling the young girls to lie about the ages of their adult boyfriends.

Well, are they violating the law in this way? If they are, then they deserve to be exposed, and should be disciplined by their employers. If not, if the staffers and volunteers are operating within the law, then let her post her videos wherever she wants. Abortion is legal and protected. Statutory rape is not.

Of all the talk about being "Pro-Life".

Where are these talkers with all the wars, famine, health care issues, concentration of wealth that leads to societal/political strafe, Hunger and the control of agriculture by fewer and fewer corporations; which causes significantly more in the way of killing than abortions could ever achieve, if one could ever argue that abortions in the first trimester could be considered killing; though Logic and Reason is definitely not their forte; where the hell are they?

It is not about "Pro-Life" or "Anti-choice" with people like these; it is only about power and control; as it has always been.

So, this young woman is the new face of the pro-life people, as opposed to the older men whom we usually see? At her age, she may think that she knows it all, but really, she is just beginning and knows nothing. As one gets older, life changes and new lessons are learned. No one should be able to tell anyone else what to do with your own body/life. When this woman eventually gets pregnant without planning it (and I'm betting there's a good chance of it, since I've got to assume she's not using birth control, as it's against Church teachings), believe me, one of the things she'll be thinking of is abortion. It may not be what she'll do -- because she has a choice -- but isn't it good to know that she would have that choice? Why should she or anyone else deprive others' of their right to live the life they choose? A group of cells is NOT a child and cannot live outside the womb. The cells do not have any "rights" until it is a viable human being and actually has a birth date. People need to mind their own business and get out of the lives of people they don't even know.

Would you consider this young woman a feminist?

She's clearly strong willed, assertive, independent, and opinionated. She has strong beliefs that guide her actions.

Ever since Sarah Palin became a household name, I've been wandering how liberal feminists will acknowledge conservative ones?

I don't agree with Lila Rose's opinion on abortion. I'm pro-choice. But, I definitely respect her will to fight for what she believes in. I think it's interesting that we're witnessing a movement of upcoming strong and conservative woman right now.

I have been reading Alternet for almost a year now and consider myself a young progressive. Still, with the issue of abortion I am undecided.
Now I do not pretend to know enough about the subject but when I took my college biology a couple of years ago, my professor said that if scientist could tell us when life ACTUALLY begins, this whole issue of abortion would be resolved.

So here's my big elephant in the room question: What if we ARE killing a living thing?

This large discrepancy between party leadership and membership indicates a serious problem that Democrats For Life of America wants to rectify.

Fifty-nine percent of Democrats favor a ban on partial-birth abortion. (Gallup Poll, November 1, 2000)

During the 2008 campaign, Reverend Jim Wallis (of Sojourners) advised Barack Obama to support a plank in the Democratic Party Platform that would aim to reduce abortions by focusing on supporting low income women and making adoption easier. (This is the 95-10 Initiative, advanced by pro-life Democrats in Congress.) Reverend Tony Campolo served on the Platform Committee and has issued a strong statement in support of a pro-life position.

A "conscience clause" which appeared in the 2000 Democratic Platform (but not in 2004) acknowledges that there are pro-life people in our Party and we respect their views. It reads as follows:

"We respect the conscience of each American and recognize that members of our Party have deeply held and sometimes differing positions on issues of personal conscience, like abortion and the death penalty. We recognize the diversity of views as a source of strength and we welcome into our ranks all Americans who may hold differing positions on these and other issues.

"However, we can find common ground. We believe that we can reduce the number of abortions by 95 percent in 10 years because we are united in our support for policies that assist families who find themselves in crisis or unplanned pregnancies. We believe that women deserve to have a breadth of options available as they face pregnancy: including, among others, support and resources needed to handle the challenges of pregnancy, adoption, and parenthood; access to education, healthcare, childcare; and appropriate child support. We envision a new day without financial or societal barriers to bringing a planned or unplanned pregnancy to term."

The 95-10 Initiative

A comprehensive plan that will reduce the number of abortions by 95% in the next 10 years by promoting abstinence, personal responsibility, adoptions and support for women and families who are facing unplanned pregnancy.

The 95-10 Initiative seeks to reduce the number of abortions in America through Federal, state and local efforts as well as support and encouragement to volunteers and dedicated people on the front lines helping pregnant women. Much attention has been given to ending abortion or keeping it legal. We believe that we must do more to reduce the abortion rate by helping and supporting pregnant women.

Preventing pregnancy is an important part of reducing the abortion rate in America. There are several ways to address prevention, but there is no clear consensus because of ethical, religious or personal reasons. There are several bills before Congress that address pregnancy prevention. While we have not endorsed a particular bill, we support finding the most effective way to reduce unplanned pregnancies. We cannot deny that abstinence is the only sure way to prevent pregnancy, but we also cannot turn our heads and pretend that our children are not engaging in risky behavior or the fact that contraception is not 100 percent effective. The Federal government has made a commitment to support prevention efforts and allocated a record $288.3 million in FY 2005 for family planning under title X. The program provides access to contraceptive supplies and information to all who want and need them. A priority is given to low-income persons.

Pregnant women who wish to carry their children to term have not received that same commitment from the Federal government. We support helping pregnant women who wish to carry their children to term but because of lack of resources believe abortion is their only option. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), Congressman Lincoln Davis (D-TN) and Pro-life Democrats in Congress who share this same commitment have introduced the Pregnant Women Support Act (S. 2407 and H.R. 3192) in the U.S Senate and U.S House. The legislation is a comprehensive approach to provide support for pregnant women who want to carry their child to term. Some of the programs included are:

establish a toll-free number to direct women to places that will provide support; collect accurate data on why women choose abortion; provide Pregnancy Counseling and Childcare on University Campuses; provide accurate information to patients receiving a positive result from prenatal testing; provide counseling in maternity group homes; increase the adoption tax credit and make it permanent; eliminate pregnancy as a pre-existing condition with respect to health care; provide grants for ultrasound equipment; support informed consent for Abortion Services; increase awareness about violence against pregnant women; require the SCHIP to cover pregnant women and unborn children; provide free home visits by registered nurses for new mothers.

Finally, we must protect our children by passing the Child Custody Protection Act, continue to promote Safe Haven laws and support funding programs as the Abandoned Infants Assistance.

When I was in parochial school (I used to be Christian but I outgrew it) each of the ten commandments was given equal weight. Since your proposal advocates promoting abstinence, personal responsibility, adoptions and support for women and families who are facing unplanned pregnancy, I can only assume that the most obvious way to reduce pregnancy terminations, affordable, universally available, user-friendly birth control , isn't part of the package. (Since Lisa Rose is from a family of eight children, her Mom evidently wasn't practicing it either.)

I am appalled at this young woman's behavior:
1) she lies,
2) she places the health provider in a terrible situation: provide care for the girl and perhaps break the law, or involve the law and perhaps drive the girl away
3) she is relishing her momentary fame while simultaneously hindering legal health care in her zealous demonstration of absurd and false righteousness.

The only thing this Lila Rose experience proves is just how cowardly our legislators are. In the absence of affordable family planning services to the public, what else have we got? And why do legislators respond by wanting to eliminate Planned Parenthood funding rather than going after the employees who gave Lila the "offensive" advice? This is about control and eliminating not just Choice, but choices. How is eliminating family planning--which essentially eliminates birth control opportunities for many in need women--a step forward in preventing abortions? How does that make sense? It doesn't. It's hypocrisy.

It only took a couple of paragraphs to "know" where your story was headed, when I read that the subject of the piece was "steeped in conservative Christian politics...." Shouldn't that be an oxymoron? When did we allow religion to invade the political arena? Why can't we return to the politics of John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and other founding fathers who distrusted -- indeed, in some cases, despised -- Christeranity and warned against its intrusion into our political discourse?

Listen, statutory rape is ILLEGAL FOR GOOD REASON. It is sexual abuse of a minor. The perps belong in jail, and the girl deserves support from the legal system.
