OAKLAND, California, Feb 22 (IPS) -- During a recent appearance on the Fox News Channel's "Fox and Friends" program, Mike Evans accused former President Jimmy Carter of everything from helping overthrow the Shah of Iran to causing the Russians to invade Afghanistan and provoking the assassination of Egyptian president Anwar Sadat.

He also had words of warning for President Barack Obama: listen to Carter at your own peril. "Jimmy Carter has an ideological belief system that Obama has to understand because if he plays that game we are going to have hell to pay for it," Evans said.

The long hard slog that former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld often talked about in reference to the war in Iraq has been fully embraced by Evans. However, he is primarily consumed with Israel, the Palestinians and Iran.

The media-savvy, well-connected and well-traveled conservative evangelical Christian Zionist -- with several bestselling books to his name and a bent for the hyperbolic -- has for years opposed Bush's road map to peace in the Middle East, a two-state solution, and a divided Jerusalem. He has also been warning the world about the danger that Iran poses and the necessity of a military strike on Iran's nuclear facilities by either the U.S. or Israel.

These days, as the world awaits the formation of a new Israeli government -- likely to be headed by Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud Party and possibly in partnership with Kadima's Tzipi Livni -- Evans has honed in on another of his favorite targets: former U.S. President Jimmy Carter.

Evans has written a new book titled "Jimmy Carter: The Liberal Left and World Chaos" -- the only book thus far published by his TimeWorthy Books -- which is a sharp rebuke of President Carter's efforts at working for a peaceful solution to the Israel/Palestine conflict.

Evans maintains that his new book "helps you connect the dots and understand how we have come to this crisis," the promotional materials at the book's Web site states. "More importantly, the book tells you how it can be resolved. It contains information that has never been revealed by diplomatic sources worldwide. It divulges the agenda of Jimmy Carter and the Liberal Left to sell America and the Bible Land to the highest bidder."

In a recent article, Evans, the founder of an organization called The Jerusalem Prayer Team (JPT) and the Corrie Ten Boom Foundation, stated that Carter's "solution is straightforward; Israel should embrace the Quartet" -- a plan for dealing with the Middle East crisis crafted after Hamas' parliamentary victory three years ago by the U.N., the U.S., the European Union, and Russia.

"The plan," writes Evans, "is backed by a group simply known as The Elders, an idea formulated by British entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson and musician Peter Gabriel to create a world council of elders to tackle issues such as peace in the Middle East."

Carter is a member of The Elders' Middle East team. "How," Evans wants to know, can Carter and friends "ask the Jewish people to embrace a group known as The Elders?" in light of the virulently anti-Semitic book, "Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion."

Carter's new book, "We Can Have Peace in the Holy Land: A Plan That Will Work," was released on Jan. 20, the same day as Evans' book.

Although Mike Evans has never had the name recognition of Pastor John Hagee, the founder of Christians United for Israel, the Rev. Pat Robertson or the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, he has been a steady presence in the Christian Zionist fold. Over the past few years, his successful self-promotional efforts have yielded several bestselling books and numerous appearances on radio and television talk shows.

In a profile of Evans, Right Web -- a project of Political Research Associates -- pointed out that in a 2007 article for his own online publication, Jerusalem World News, Evans criticized efforts aimed at a two-state solution: "The acceptance of this vile plan would turn Israel into a living hell. The Jewish people would be forced to live next door to a state controlled by Islamic fanatics such as Hamas."

"I am reminded over and over of the scripture in Psalm 83:2-5: For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; and those who hate You have lifted up their head. They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, and consulted together against Your sheltered ones. They have said, 'Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more.' For they have consulted together with one consent; they form a confederacy against You."

Over the past several years, Evans has been a major advocate of military action against Iran.

Before last November's U.S. presidential election, in an early September e-mail to his supporters, Evans claimed that he had received information from a number of Iraqi and Israeli leaders that Iran was "planning a major surge in the next 30 days to kill as many American troops as possible. They believe in doing so they can undermine the success of the U.S. surge and John McCain's hopes of becoming President."

Evans, the head of a group called the Jerusalem Prayer Team, the publisher of the online Jerusalem World News, and the author of a number of books including The New York Times bestseller "The Final Move Beyond Iraq," maintained that "Muqtada Al-Sadr's, Iran's Shi'ite subcontractor in Iraq and head of the sixty-five thousand member Mahdi army (terrorists), are going to attempt to make Iraq a living hell in the next 30 days by killing as many people as possible."

How to deal with Evans' startling revelation: He suggested that the best thing his supporters could do would be to head over to "Amazon.com right now and purchase as many copies of 'The Final Move Beyond Iraq' as possible."

Why rush to Amazon.com? "Because this is the only book that reveals Iran's plans in Iraq. More importantly if you can drive the book to Amazon's Top Ten bestseller list, the network shows will be calling and inviting me to speak to tens of millions of people. I need to wake up the American people and government so they can pray and prepare for this attack that is coming. You can save American lives by helping me get on the major networks."

Despite the bluster, and Evans' certainty, there was no discernable Iranian surge. How many books were sold is unclear.

These days, Evans's "Book Wars" is continuing: In a series of e-mails, Evans has encouraged his supporters to let their fingers do the walking on over to Amazon.com, where they can both buy his new book and provide it with a five-star review. "If my book hits #1 on Amazon, the networks will call," Evans was once again telling supporters.

As of Feb. 19, the book seems to have received a bump in sales from Evans's recent appearances on the Fox News Channel's "Fox and Friends" and "Fox News Strategy" programs, as it moved up to #145 at Amazon.com.

Of the 75 recorded reviews, 71 gave Evans' book a 5-star rating. (On the same day, Carter's book ranked #1,377 and had received 54 reviews, of which 31 gave it a 1-star rating.)

Can we not just lobby to get rid of Fox Network. It breeds stupidity in the mouths of all of its staff. Dress them in clown suits and have bells around their necks. For godsakes do something or they will continue to support the Evil Empire of Wall Street and corrupt politicians. They just don't get it!

Personally I would recomend that he should be custard pied whenever he appears in public until he gives up his crack pipe and goes back to looking for little green men hiding the mapple syrup he wants for his breakfast.

The majority of Americans act in complete disregard of their own faith, cheering the death of millions around the world for an easy life here. They love the "surge" in Iraq and are looking forward to the slaughter of innocents around the world that don't believe in their cooked up world of faux christianity.

They appear more like ants, following orders raiding all they can see that is not who or what they are. Although nothing new, it has reached a fever pitch. There are a lot of John Hagee wanna-bees. Their hate and contempt for life of these end of timers has no match on earth as they literally pray for the end of the world by nuclear holocaust or something else even more severe.

This Guy Gives Opportunism A Bad Name

I lost track of this slime ball for quite a while, but speak of the devil, he's back.

Never at a loss for words or ideas, this guy makes used car salesmen look like altar boys.

Talk about screwball preachers, guess who pops up; Mike Evans. Along with homophobic preachers, John Hagee, and the late Jerry Falwell, and that grinning idiot Pat Robertson, they form what I would call the "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse"; a nightmare right out of the Book of Revelation. These guys want you to think you should; "Flee from the wrath to come"; ask God to make you rich"; Nuke out the infidels; but, buy my book first. Combined, these end time enthusiasts have published more books with various time tables for the end of the world, and more variations on the different scenarios for the end of the world (all of which were dead wrong), than the Library of Congress comic book section. The all, unabashedly, tell their followers to, "buy my book on the latest revelation from God" stuff, only to find that they were wrong...again! For someone to speak for God (as if he needs another spokesman) with such authority and certainty, only to have the world take a different tack, you would think they would give up, and admit that they were wrong; not a chance.

Now, Mike Evans wants us to follow his lead once again, and bomb the shit out of Iran, push the Palestinians into the sea, and make everyone a Jew...American style.

His latest prediction (from reliable sources) about the coming slaughter of American troops, has failed to materialize. But, not to worry, it was an honest mistake; then he forgave himself...again. Why anybody listens to him, and others like him, never ceases to amaze me. But, praise the Lord, and pass the cold, hard, cash, from my latest book. All this guy need is more snake oil, smoke, and mirrors, to work out another story to sell his unsuspecting, naive, and blind followers.

The "Church" is a sucker for anything with a Christian label. And, talk about confusion, they are the poster child for the dazed and confused. Just keep on giving them that, "ol time religion", and "I'll see you at those pearly gates" where Saint Peter will welcome you in. It's funny, but the Bible never mentions pearly gates or Saint Peter as the gatekeeper. They must be using a different Bible. I guess that's why we have so many denominations; find one that suites your fantasy, and your in...no questions asked.

Finally, with everything that is going on in the world right now, you would think Mike, and his ilk, would have a message of hope instead of death and destruction for the infidels (Muslims). But, they don't, because violence sells, and because we need another "victory" for the "good guys", (that's us). Don't be surprised if "the four horsemen" declare that God wants us to re-claim the "Dome of the Rock" for Christianity, even if it means Armageddon. But, isn't that what it is all about? Kill everybody, so Jesus will have a place to live when he returns. Alleluia!!

Carter administration deliberately provoked Russians to invade Afghanistan as proudly acknowledged by Carter's NSA Zbigniew Brzezinski:

Question: The former director of the CIA, Robert Gates, stated in his memoirs ["From the Shadows"], that American intelligence services began to aid the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan 6 months before the Soviet intervention. In this period you were the national security adviser to President Carter. You therefore played a role in this affair. Is that correct?

Brzezinski: Yes. According to the official version of history, CIA aid to the Mujahadeen began during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan, 24 Dec 1979. But the reality, secretly guarded until now, is completely otherwise Indeed, it was July 3, 1979 that President Carter signed the first directive for secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet regime in Kabul. And that very day, I wrote a note to the president in which I explained to him that in my opinion this aid was going to induce a Soviet military intervention.

Can't these Crazies just go back to killing themselves. Must they require the rest of Us be sacrificed so they may be 'Raptured'. and isn't that really what they are campagning for - WW3 as the alter of Sacrific?
These sociopaths have been around since the dawn of man- mostly run out of the villages, surviving on the fringes. But now they have gained an element of control in the Repug party. Now the Present a Serious danger to US and the Rest of the World. Got Hagee whispering in McCains ear, through the ideologically treasonous LIEberman, so "Pre-emeptive strikes against Iran" comes out on theCampaign trail as 'Bomb bomb bomb Iran'- a little more lyrically- but essentially the same message.
Now you have this Historical Revisionist talking to the mentally dim and hsitorically ignorant tha Carter overthrew the Shah? That was in the '50's- Jimmy wasn't even a Gov then!
These Hell bent holy rollers KNOW the population of Israel will consist of more Muslims than Jews, so apaprently they want to set up a one state scenario which will ignite conflict. Lest we forget the Jews are the Way to 'Rapture'- other than that they don't give a shit about them except those 144,000 who converted to Chrisitianity and then have a ticketed seat on the Rapture bus.
this guy is not a Jew nor a Muslim- so he has no legitmate dog in the fight. Also Our Country was founded on Separation of Church and state, therefore his 'American' Credentials are in serious question. And attempting to Jmp State 'end of days' indicates he has no Faith in the Almighty , nor HIS grand design.Calling into question exactly WHO this man is trying to serve by telling lies about people and nations. Who would require the assistance of mere mortals to fulfill it's desires for Destruction of Humanity?Who's jealous and Hates 'Adam & Eve' so venomously?
Lucky for him and his ilk we don't burn heretics at the Stake anymore!!!What a shame, 'Revenge a dish Best served Cold!'

I probably cannot compete with the eloquence and verbosity of some people on here, but Jimmy Carter is a good man--probably the most moral and fundamentally good person we have had for president in the past 40 years.

Look what he did after he was president: did he go on the lecture circuit like Reagan and make speeches at $100k each to adoring businessmen audiences? He has spent much of his time with Habitat for Humanity building houses. He denounced Reagan's Darwinist capitalism.

It is so sad to see these cynical, evil phonies who call themselves Christians disparage him.

Just my opinion--thank you.

The Sermon on the Mount.
1
Now when He saw the crowds, He went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to Him,
2
and He began to teach them, saying:
3
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
7
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
8
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
9
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
10
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11
"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.
12
Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Pay particular attention to #9

Consider this news item: Fearing a One-State Solution, Israel’s President Serves Pabulum to Washington

The CIA realizes that Israel cannot continue in its current form, however, should Israel face the prospect of being folded into a single state of Palestine, the Zionists who currently control their nation and who have held its top military and security positions for decades can be counted on to launch nuclear weapons out of spite. This will induce a general exchange of nuclear weapons and the apocalypse of Christian “prophecy.” Unfortunately, oh, Cruel Fate, Jesus will not be showing up for this party. No amount of wailing, teeth gnashing, or nuclear radiation can turn fictional characters into reality.

This guy and his little legion of followers have been spamming all over the place on Amazon. It's truly obnoxious and makes it difficult to extract any meaningful information from customer reviews, which can be quite good on Amazon. Go read his absurd "review" of Jimmy Carter's book and the comments his followers have left if you want a good laugh.

As a Christian, I am as dismayed as everyone else posting here. Christianity has been perverted beyond recognition.

I do believe in the ultimate culmination of world events in a cataclysm of Biblical proportion, but God isn't going to have to lift a finger because mankind will do it.

Jesus said that no one knows when the final chapter will be written--not him, not the angels, no one. Since there is about a 250 year disparity between the Jewish calendar and the common era calendar, it may be a couple of centuries yet (although that day--thousand year period--will be cut short).

One thing all the proponents of the so-called rapture have over-looked is a prophetic event that will leave them all standing around looking stupid and wondering why they all got left behind.

Jesus never killed anyone, neither did he advocate killing anyone, nor did he sanction killing anyone. He possessed the power to annihilate mankind, yet he laid down his life rather than kill and commanded his disciples to follow his example. "By this shall all men know that you are my disciples--that you love one another as I have loved you."

"By their fruits you shall know them." Those persons who kill or advocate killing are not Christians, despite what they may claim to the contrary. "He who has not the Spirit of Christ is none of his."

Christianity remains a powerful weapon in American politics, and we abandon this weapon to the GOP at our peril.

I’m a progressive Christian who is appalled at the Christian Reich’s upside-down version of Christ and Christianity—Pro-Rich and Pro-War—and the GOP’s war on the U.S. Constitution, including the separation of church and state.

Thanks to America’s Christian Reich and a host of flamethrowers like Evans, being “a Christian” has become a negative in the eyes of much of the world, and I can empathize with the increasing number of Americans—especially our younger folk—who have no use for Christianity.

As for me, I have chosen to stay and fight to reclaim my faith from those who use it to support a rightwing imperial and economic agenda.

This and much more is discussed in, "The Bush League of Nations: The Coalition of the Unwilling, the Bullied and the Bribed – the GOP’s War on Iraq and America," by James A. Swanson (2008, CreateSpace Publishing, 448 pages).

It’s my gift to patriots everywhere—you can now download the entire $25.95 book for FREE at www.bushleagueofnations.com.

I ask for nothing in return, except that you perhaps use my book to help restore and build America.

The eschatological implications of Christian Zionists should scare the hell into us civilized people. CZ's are no longer looking for signs of the apocalypse, they're hastening its coming in this generation. And, with nuclear weapons in the hands of Zionist madmen like Benjamin Netanyahu, the danger is real.

The past 28 years has produced a wave of nihilist Christians and politicians who hate the world and would rather see it all go up in a bang.

...or Christian anything anymore.

Such is the state of literacy in the United States these days? Why the dirth of critical thinking? Why are these people (Evens, Hagee, et al, Rick Warren) even allowed to publish such quackery?

Has the redneck mentality of America become so debased that these sorts are all it is willing to support?

These people are toxic and not assets

If humanity is the object under consideration -- both in its concrete and abstract forms -- persons like this, aided immensely by the "message multipliers" of the Media, are toxic and at the very least incitement, provocation and maintenance of barbarism, savagery and all kinds of bestial behaviors; not only here but all over this world. This man has plenty of counterparts, individuals and organizations and even corporate states, all over the globe.

Ever since Reagan hurled that challenge to humanity by equating the USSR with an "evil" empire (un-stated, of course, the implication that the US Empire or "Western Values" or some other kind of invented Moral Entity applied to us were the "good" empire or peoples), Reagan cast into our politics and our social relations a very radical dualism that runs, hardly interrupted, back more than 2000 years!!!

When one man, one organization, one group, one country posits himself or itself as ALL Good, and other men, other organizations, other groups as ALL Evil, it is difficult to avoid the conclusion that bestiality and animality and all other forms of barbarous behavior are not far behind. In Reagan's day, it was the USSR, today it is "Islam" -- the world-view is total and totalitarian: "Me -- All and Always Good, You -- All and Always Evil"... .

Radical dualism -- which is a moral and belief-based system of seeing our world needs to be met and challenged at every opportunity by anyone who considers the ways of living of our species to be a human and not an animal endeavor.

Else, any concept of reason, advance or progress may as well be written off as error.

During a recent appearance on the Fox News Channel's "Fox and Friends" program, Mike Evans accused former President Jimmy Carter of everything from helping overthrow the Shah of Iran to causing the Russians to invade Afghanistan and provoking the assassination of Egyptian president Anwar Sadat.

Just what we need. Another freak on the tube. We should thank Fox for showing it's usual sick and preverted broadcasting.
