2008 was a banner year for progressive media: we helped to boot conservatives from power and elect a President running on a promise of change. AlterNet played its part, with groundbreaking political and cultural stories -- some culled from the best progressive sources on the web and many more produced in-house.

Below, we've assembled the 10 most popular stories of the year; the articles you read, emailed, and sent flying around the Internet. I'm not one of the beneficiaries of the Bush years; I'm not receiving under the table defense blessings, I didn't get my off-shore accounts liberated from taxes, the rethugs didn't pay me to fix any elections or mash up those lefty blogs, no super-wealthy Christianatics shared their mansions with me, and certainly no oil companies considered making even a pity-donation to me or my family... we're making it, but we're not philanthropic except to children and house payments of our own making.

However, what our family cannot offer in much-deserved monetary support, we can at least send your wonderful "1st-Up" blog and staff our very highest regard for all you do. While we all know there's no such thing as trickle-down economics, there is such a thing as trickle-down blogs that not only work, but affect real-change in real-time... Alternet is a valuable part of this new paradigm of global civil culture.

Thank You, Blessings, Peace and Prosperity, looking forward to holding the Obama administration and the Congress to the Progressive Fire in 2009.

Channing

from Palin, as an internet source of some truth, you just can't seem to look the other way at this train wreck of a public servant.

She's simply a media gimmick, another distraction from this Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey circus of calculated deceit.

was that article of the interview with David Ray Griffin on the 9/11 debate. That was by far the best one of the year. As I remember, there were some 800 comments before that article was retired. In fact all of the 9/11 stories on AlterNet have garnered the most comments by readers.

Can we stop continuing to obsess over Sarah Palin? She lost. She was just the VP nominee. She returned to Alaska.
Stop being bothered by her, it makes you seem paranoid.
