It's time for the United States to join the rest of the civilized world -- all those wacky countries that treat health care as right and not a privilege. When foreign visitors are aghast that the largest cause of bankruptcy in this nation is the inability to pay medical bills, our reputation slides even more quickly down the slope of ignominy. How about beginning with ensuring that the cost of drugs in the U.S. is as cheap as it is elsewhere in the world, that insurance companies can't refuse coverage to anyone and that "pre-existing" conditions are, with a stroke of your pen, banished forever as a reason to deny reimbursement?
