As Sarah Palin positions herself for what will undoubtedly be a long career in the national spotlight -- whether as the new messiah of social conservatives or a permanent fixture on Fox News -- damning new information about the former VP candidate is beginning to emerge.

Much of it comes from disgruntled former McCain staffers, who since Election Day have engaged in nonstop grousing and finger-pointing, most of it at Palin. Other shocking news about the VP candidate is being released by reporters who were embedded with the McCain campaign.

The new revelations, ranging from the unbelievable extent of her foreign policy ignorance, to her deeply unethical behavior on the campaign trail, are a testament to just how big a bullet Americans dodged on Election Day.

1. Palin Pulled the Trigger Early on Ayers Accusations:

One of the McCain camp's dirtiest and most desperate tricks during the campaign was to unrelentingly harp on Obama's flimsy connection to former Weatherman William Ayers. Few people bought it, and the attacks went a long way toward stripping McCain of the last of his dignity.

As it turns out, the first Ayers attack was prematurely launched by Palin without the approval of McCain's team. Newsweek reports that the McCain camp had not finalized its decision to bring up Ayers (Mark Salter was against it) when Palin blurted the accusation to a group of donors.

2. Palin Didn't Know All of the Countries in NAFTA:

According to Fox reporter Carl Cameron, Palin could not name all of the countries in NAFTA. Presumably, Palin had heard of the three countries before, since she lives in one of them and the other two aren't exactly obscure. But she was unaware that the United States, Mexico and Canada are partnered in one of the most disastrous trade agreements of the last century -- one with catastrophic consequences for those down-home, ordinary folks Palin tried so hard to win over.

3. Palin Thought Africa Is a Country, Not a Continent:

Cameron also reported this startling fact:

There was great concern in the McCain campaign that Sarah Palin lacked a degree of knowledgeability necessary to be a running mate, a vice president and a heartbeat away from the presidency. ...
We're told that she didn't understand that Africa was a continent, rather than a series -- a country just in itself.

Cameron also said that Palin "didn't accept preparation" for the infamous Katie Couric interview.

For the record, Palin has denied the accusation:
That's kind of a small, evidently bitter type of person who would anonymously charge something foolish like that, that I perhaps didn't know an answer to a question. So until I know who is talking about it, I won't have a comment on false allegations
4. The $150,000 Price Tag for Palin's Wardrobe was a Low Estimate:

Remember that $150,000 price tag that had Republicans upset and the media in a frenzy? Well, Newsweek is reporting that that estimate was a lowball:
Newsweek has also learned that Palin's shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain's top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy. One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family -- clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill. Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards. The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement. One aide estimated that she spent "tens of thousands" more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as "Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast," and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.
"Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus?" Yeesh, why don't you tell us what you really think? Still, it was disappointing for many hardworking Republican contributors to find out their donated dollars went to buying brand-name clothes by the boatload. So news that the early estimations were low must not brighten any moods. But fear not, Republicans, it has been reported that the RNC has dispatched a lawyer "to Alaska to inventory and retrieve the clothes still in her possession."

5. Post-Election, Palin Is Backtracking on Stevens:

Now that she is no longer vying for national office, Palin doesn't seem so eager to denounce convicted felon Ted Stevens.

When Stevens was first found guilty of seven felonies, the McCain camp, Palin included, issued very disapproving statements about Stevens' behavior and called on him to resign. Now Palin is singing a different tune.

According to Think Progress:
Asked Wednesday whether she still believed that Mr. Stevens should resign, Ms. Palin was circumspect, saying only that the people of Alaska "just spoke" on the issue at the ballot box and that "they want him as their senator." She said Mr. Stevens should decide "what happens next."
Or maybe that decision should be left to someone who is not a convicted criminal?

6. McCain and Palin Didn't Talk Much:

Even though John McCain has said that he turned to Palin for advice on foreign policy "many times," it turns out that in actuality the two candidates where not often in contact.
McCain himself rarely spoke to Palin during the campaign, and aides kept him in the dark about the details of her spending on clothes because they were sure he would be offended.
Which reveals why NBC Political Director Chuck Todd described Palin and McCain as having "no chemistry" when they sat down for an interview with Brian Williams:
There was a tenseness. I couldn't see chemistry between John McCain and Sarah Palin. I felt as if we grabbed two people and said "here, sit next to each other, we are going to conduct an interview."
Hard to bring a feeling of camaraderie to a ticket when the two nominees barely talk to one another.

7. Palin "Began to Attack Staffers:"

According to the aforementioned Cameron with Fox News, Palin started having difficulties with her staff after the Couric interview:
Well, afterward Palin began to attack staffers and suggest that she was mishandled, and communicated that to a handful of people both in the McCain-Palin campaign and outside (it). ...
There are stories that say she would look at her press clippings in the morning and throw what has been described to me as "tantrums." The way I understand it, there are times when she would be so nasty and angry -- staff -- that they would virtually be reduced to tears. ... There was the throwing of paperwork and things of this nature.
8. Palin Wanted to Speak at McCain's Concession Speech:

According to Newsweek, Palin wanted in on McCain's concession speech. In possibly the only good decision made about Palin during the whole campaign, Steve Schmidt vetoed her request.

Perhaps Schmidt didn't want McCain's speech marred by contrived folksiness, desperate winking and one last pander to the conservative base. Certainly no one wanted the night to end with Palin setting the groundwork for a 2012 campaign for the White House.

I would be hard pressed to think of anyone off hand, that I would want "less" than Palin, to represent America.

How about "unsurprising"?

Please drop the hyperbole already. I won't comment on the irony of it. However, your rep is at stake. Judging by the comments on your election coverage, I'm not the only one considering finding another news source.

"the way I understand it there were times..." C'mon, a lot of this is very vague and uncertain. It seems that the reporter has cobbled together a great deal of hearsay and speculation to make a "story" here. I have no sympathy for Palin politically, but this is a waste of space.

Whether this stuff is true or not, it all seems to fit with her personality and her statements.

I haven't heard a word from her that doesn't suggest that she's uncompromising, ignorant, full of herself, and a compulsive liar. She's also stupid, but only in the book sense.

She seems to feel the pulse of Idiot America in the way George Bush does. And also like him, she seems to have sociopathic qualities: no amount of blood on her hands would make her think twice about any decision. In her short time in the spotlight, how often did she use her own children to score political points, even at their expense?

The night of the election, every time I woke up screaming, it wasn't from nightmares that McCain would be president per se, but rather that he doesn't look healthy, and she would be vice president. She really creeps me out.

I have read your article about Sarah Palin with great interest. I am a conservative in my own country but an Obama supporter in yours. When I first saw Sarah Palin I recognised a lady who is extremely ambitious, did not appear to have a lot of common sense and who used information which was not honest to try and win over a point. The frightening part was she enjoyed the adulation from the crowds even although 'kill him' or 'he's a terrorist' were being shouted out against Senator Obama. If you consider that to be responsible behaviour from someone standing for the prestigeous post of VP then your country has a major problem. Senator Obama conducted his campaign with dignity and you should look very carefully at the credentials of Sarah Palin before allowing her to proceed any further. John McCain was gracious in defeat but his greatest regret is picking the Governor of Alaska to be his running mate.

Has anyone ever heard a consultant take blame for a failure?

Same in this case. McCains staff are throwing Palin under the bus to save their own ass.

Does anyone really believe that Obama thought we had 57 states?. Does anyone really believe Palin didn't know Africa was not a country.

Politics aside, she is a smart and agressive women who has some amazing accomplishments!

What all this shoews is that we are fortunate McCain did not get elected. Not for his policies but for his selection of staff. It would have been another dysfunctional presidency.

This story also points out that the media, and America are not ready for a women in power! One "minority" at a time!

There needs to be some major changes in this country, starting with media reporting! Stories like this aren't worth printing!

The simple fact is that if Sarah Palin had entered the Republican primary process along with the mental midgets such as Brownback, Huckabee, etc., she would have been laughed out of the process within days when people learned that she is a complete moron about nearly everything that has to do with the presidency. I don't see her as a threat in 2012, 2016, 2020 or any point after that.

How can you pick someone to be your VP and running mate and rarely talk to him or her? Especially someone as inexperienced as Palin; she needed more help from McCain, not less. This suggests Palin would've been tightly constrained and marginalized in a McCain White House--and even more unprepared if she had to become president.

Also, I read that Palin's rallies generated so much racist sentiment that Black Secret Service agents assigned to protect her felt threatened. The Secret Service had to warn Palin to tone the rhetoric down. How scary is that?

McCain's Bad

Ultimately, the appointment of Sarah Palin was McCain's decision, and he bears responsibility for not checking her out. She couldn't pass a high school civics test. Palin's selection revealed, I think, to many Republicans that while McCain may once have been an independent thinker, he was willing to throw his good judgment out the door in service to his blind ambition.

Given how much women in the media and the upper echelons of the Republican party spend on clothes, I think they should get over her shopping binge. Cindy McCain spent more than that on the outfit she wore with John accepted the nomination. It was her own money, of course, but imagine yourself having to appear alongside women who dressed like that day in and day out. The campaign must have decided Palin looked like a poor relation, and her off-the-rack clothes made them uncomfortable.

The other criticisms are much more to the point of how (shudder) she would have conducted herself in office.

I'm glad Palin's back in Alaska where there are fewer taxpayers to rip off and no foreign policy decisions pending. Unfortunately, Alaska's gorgeous wilderness and magnificent wildlife are still in danger.

One of the most robust messages coming from American conservatism is that the press and other knowledge workers despise and disdain Working Class people like the Palin's.

Sarah will use articles like this to establish her conservative bona fides and build upon the Conservatives' collective persecution process.

Palin became so popular with the redneck conservatives, the party has to put her in her place and send her back to Alaska to keep an eye on Putin. The fiscal conservatives are going to try and take their party back, however they still have to deal with the media mouth conservatives and the sidewinder conservatives. If the democrats were smart they would become the fiscal conservatives; this would put an end to the republicans forever. Hate mongers, fear mongers, and born again pagans could not get elected dogcatcher in this country. Unfortunately, nobody has ever accused Pelosi or Reid of being smart. Let the bridges to nowhere begin.

You know the best possible course of action regarding Sarah Palin at this point is to condemn her to obscurity. The Democractic candidates did a good job of ignoring her during the campaign, and the rest of us should do the same. Her selection was a mistake, a bad gamble on the part of desperate Republicans. I am sure McCain regrets the decision. Let's all try to forget about her and let her go back to Alaska to lick her wounds and hope she stays very far away from national politics. If the Alaskans like her brand of environmentalism, religion, and politics, they can have her.

I agree with the first to comment on this amazing waste of space. There's nothing new here, and the only "terrifying" item would be McCain actually asking Palin for her advice on international issues. It's refreshing, in a strange way, that she didn't respond on these issues.

All this crap does is keep her name in front of the audience and give her supporters more fuel to come to her defense. Let her disappear from the news for a few weeks. She'll implode by herself.

I don't care if it's good journalism or based in fact or mean or nasty, i could seriously use a lot of good belly laughs, fully at their miserable pathetic expense. Let us not forget for a minute how badly things could have gone, but for a few million votes, and just how bad these two horrible people wanted every chapter of that awful book to come true. Palin's lack of success

ABC News said that one thing that made a big difference in the election was that less Republicans voted this time.

That would mean that Gov. Palin didn't help get the party base out to support McCain in addition to not getting the womens' vote and not getting most of the moderates. In other words, she failed at EVERYTHING that she was supposed to do for the GOP ticket. That's not even mentioning how much of a drag she was on the ticket for being so stupid and inexperienced.

So why is she 2012 material? Probably because they're beat up so badly that they don't have anyone else to hoist their hopes on right now. Rudy was quickly destroyed in the primaries and Romney's money didn't help him get anywhere. Thompson was an early washout. Huckabee might be a bit of a conservative darling but some of the party is mad that he didn't quit earlier. No one in the Bush
admin is gonna be welcome for a long time to come. Powell supported Obama. Arnold can't legally run for high office (and with more and more Dem governors, he won't get support for an amendment to change that). Their leader in Congress (McConnell) barely won his own seat in this week's election.

Neo-con idiot that she is, Palin does have name recognition even if it is as a laughing stock (outside the party, that is) so she's all they've got now. How pathetic is that?

The GOP would need a leader to bring together all the factions of the party and come up with some grand vision for the party. She showed neither of those qualities on the election trail. Her vision for America was "Obama's scary!"

According to Palin, she had nothing to do with buying all those clothes. They were all brought to her hotel room by McCain's staff. Please, give me a break. As I read this story, I was reminded of another very conservative "wanna be" politician, this one from Florida. Can you say Anita Bryant?

Where were these "staffers" and "journalists" when this mattered? If McCain had won, would we have been hearing this? the US mainstream media lapdogs need to be fed to the pitbulls. We need some REAL journalists to report REAL news when it matters.

these stories didn't appear before the vote. In fact, the agreement Newsweek has with the campaigns is to wait until after the vote, to reveal these character flaws and bad judgements. I find that more frightening than Palin. Why would any organization make such an agreement when the future of a nation is at stake? Imagine if the election had gone the other way! I think that some of these stories may have more to do with McCain's personality flaws (I think he is a bad loser). His life's work will now be viewed through the prism of his decision to accept Palin as a running mate. I don't think his subordinates are helping his legacy with these stories, they only serve to make him look more incompetent than he made himself look.

And stop worrying about Palin running for president in 2012. The worst that could happen is Ted Stevens will win but get expelled and replaced by Palin. And even if she does run in 2012, it's Obama's responsibility as an incumbent to show what's he has done for the better. Instead of harassing Palin, let's focus on getting our movement and new leadership in line already. At this point, bashing Palin reminds me of Dan Burton bashing Clinton even after he left office. Enough already !

Sarah Palin is a rank opportunist with a history of turning on her mentors for personal gain. She lied and lied to the American people and proclaimed a patently absurd theme that she and John McCain were agents of change that represented a new path from the grasping debacle of Bush and Cheney.
John McCain opted for the tactic of fear and dividing Americans into his and the GOP's, the rich, white, and religious are us, true Americans.
I have shed many tears as the young, America's future, and a huge majority of world citizens celebrated humanity's rejection of fear, bigotry and a governmental modus operandi of partisan incompetence.
Psychologically however, the tears come from a release of fear, the constant fear that come election day deceit, avarice, bigotry and a mindless denial of Enlightenment values which hallmarked America's formation would again triumph in this land.

Deception and cruelty

Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
I'm not sure if anything that comes out of the Republican noise machine is based in truth or reality. I certainly am not a Palin fan. During the campaign, I thought she was either vacuous and uninformed at best or vicious and deceptive at worst. But she was still most likely a dupe for the Republican powers.

Just as the Republican regressives use the working class evangelicals and social conservatives to promote their agenda and then abandon them once they've achieved their goals, they have used Sarah Palin to try and win an election. When they lost, they turned on her and attacked. It's not without reason that one of the shows I watched on TV last night (Olberman or The Daily Show - can't remember which) called it Rebublicannibalism.

Figuratively speaking, of course, these people eat their young. The real, documented inanities of Sarah Palin should have been enough to return her to obscurity, but now, just to make absolutely sure she doesn't find her way up the political ladder, the "anonymous sources from the McCain campaign" find it necessary to trot out ever more outrageous factoids. Unless I see clips of Palin in confusion over Africa as a continent or which countries belong to NAFTA, I will have my doubts about the veracity of these rumors.

It's probably true that the Republican operatives are terrified that a "Wasilla hillbilly" might actually have the audacity to run for president in 2012. Given the nightmares that would create for them, it's likely that a major smear campaign has been concocted to discredit her with the only constituency she really captured. Even the most loyal, cultural conservative, evangelical, small town True Americans might find it disconcerting if their champion can't find Canada on a map or if she really did go on a huge shopping spree with other people's money.

I, for one, am delighted that Palin is back in Alaska where she can absorb more insight into foreign policy by gazing at Russia, practice her socialist governing style by spreading oil revenues among the citizens of her state, and help redefine marriage as a union between two unwilling teenagers.

But a small part of me feels sorry for her having been used and discarded by those with even fewer scruples than she seems to have.

In response to the folks who want to let it go because we won:

Sarah Palin needs to exposed for what she is, so the chances of her having a say in the future are greatly minimized. We are still living with George Bush and Dick Cheney as the current leaders of our country. And remember that GW was hand picked by the GOP when he was campaigning for his dad because they saw in him someone who could be easily manipulated to further their desires. Granted, the future of the Dems will depend on their ability to work together and to restore the damage that has be done to our country and our civil rights.
But we can not just let it go, if we are to keep the last 8 years from repeating, we have to continue to expose people like Sarah Palin.

there is a lot more to her than this article has printed. This is a window into her hatefulness, I suppose, but didn't we all know that? But why do so many of you now want to give her a pass?

She is in a position to either appoint herself or Todd or Stoll or someone equally dreadful to Stevens' seat when the Senate ousts him, and will almost certainly run for the seat in a special election. After 4 years in the Senate, she will be deemed presidential material.

The second thing is that no one is talking about her religious affiliations. Please view Bruce Wilson's latest 10-minute video here It is scary for sure, and it sure connects a lot of dots.

Don't waste your sympathy on Palin. She is a snake.

My eye is on Stevens' senate seat. Believe it or not, there isn't any law against a convicted felon serving as a US Senator, but there's a school of thought that says Stevens will step down. Palin has the right as governor to appoint someone to take his place, and Alaska has a restriction that the appointee must be of the same party affiliation as the vacating Senator. (This is one reason Stevens might step down--to put a Republican in the seat with a slight advantage of occupancy),

Alaska requires a special election within a few months of when a senate seat is vacated, with the interim appointee serving only until the people choose a successor.

Should Stevens resign, Palin can't appoint herself, but she can step down as governor, let her lieutenant governor, Sean Parnell, take over the governorship, and then in turn appoint her to Stevens' seat.

She's such a media darling now, that she would probably pull of the special election in Alaska. Instant "experience" credential. The stuff of bad dreams.

Sarah Palin is pretty, uneducated, charming, white trash. She did exactly what you would expect from someone like that who has bluffed and lied her way into a position of power: she continued to bluff and lie, took hold of any rumor or innuendo and then ran it into the ground, got an opportunity to spend money on herself that wasn't hers (let's not even discuss how she spends taxpayers' money) and took that way beyond the necessary, or even the slightly indulgent.

This is who Sarah Palin is. She is not going to change. And there are a lot of people like her, at least in the white trash and/or uneducated part, who think she's perfect the way she is. These are people who think running the PTA is equivalent to running the country. Personally, I've never heard of a PTA with nukes, but who knows?

WELCOME TO MORE OF THE SAME

I'm usually in the minority with the viewpoints I'm about to make. Nevertheless I'll make them anyway. For starters. Unless Governor Sarah Palin is the reincarnation of Adolph Hitler. I don't believe for one moment that she could possibly be any worse, in any sense of the word than the reptilians that the human powers that be, and the citizens of the U.S. elect to political offices every 2 to 4 years. Case closed on that one.

We did make history on November 4, 2008. U.S. voters and the human powers that be elected the first black president. Both houses of congress appear to have gained a larger democratic majority the last time I checked. Other than that. What real, positive U.S. policy changes are supposed to occur under this scenario? I won't apologize for bursting your bubble America. All that most of you have voted for on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 was "MORE OF THE SAME." I see "business as usual" in Washington, D.C. after January 29, 2008.

Why be so pessimistic someone may ask? The same people will be running the show as usual in D.C. It's that simple. So common-sense frees me from the gullibility of expecting "better" results from most politicians on Capital Hill. Furthermore. With the current congressional make-up. Don't expect the Patriot Act to disappear into the woodwork. Patriot Act I passed under a republican controlled congress. Patriot Act II passed under a democratic controlled congress in 2008. Don't expect the "occupation force" in Iraq or elsewhere to return and live in the U.S. any time soon in your lifetime.

Let me describe a few of the domestic and foreign policies that most U.S. citizens voted to keep intact on 11/04/08: (The warrantless domestic spying on law-abiding U.S. citizens, eavesdropping, unlawful searches and seizures, guilty until if or when proven innocent, unlawful detention under the U.S. Constitution, terrorist accusations without evidence resulting in people serving prison sentences for five years or more without being convicted of any crimes, increasing the dead body counts of the U.S. armed forces, Afghans, Pakastanis, Syrians, Iraqis and other innocent civilians around the world who are non-terrorists (close to 2 million people excluding those who have died senseless war-related deaths since the U.S. was founded as a nation), down-sizing and job layoffs as employers seek cheaper operating and employee costs by relocating outside the U.S. with the blessings and approval of the U.S. government, more corporate welfare government-sponsored bail-outs, more unfair taxation with unethical representation, never seeing a dime of the social security taxes you are forced to contribute to, retirement savings wiped out by a fascist government that gambles them away in the stock market, CEO's from the failed banking, insurance, real estate and investment industries being rewarded with government jobs and cabinet positions, paid to be government advisers and consultants, the loss of more civil liberties that were guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution for the sake of fighting the war on terrorism.

I've only covered the tip of the iceberg here. Tell me. Who are the real terrorists here? And what did your votes change on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008? Nothing since most Americans re-elected and will re-elect the inhumane people who live to control and make life a living hell for everyone else. You must be real proud of yourselves. I won't hold my breath on this. But maybe one day there will be judges and politicians in Washington, D.C. and the states who are committed to upholding the U.S. Constitution. Then and only then will I expect better things from the United States.

most of it. the reporters should have the guts to identify the grousers, in particular now that Palin denies it, who said she thought Africa was a country not a continent? the most important to me of these was the outrageous amount she spent on high end clothes. 150k is 6 times my annual wages. i think her clothes should be auctioned to wealthy and be used to stop foreclosures. I also think more should be made of the cost to Alaska and American taxpayers of her five kids travel and clothes. Moreover the per diem scandal should be publicized and prosecuted if appropriate. She seems to be good a feeding at the public trough although she pretended to be a reformer. She was definitely underqualified, not very bright and a very mean spirited speaker. I hope her poltical career outside of Alaska is over and she can go back to reforming Alaska. i also wish to caution folks against using poor white trash, redneck and other such terms which are epithets--criticize the person but not the class you perceive him or her to come from.

School of Hard Knocks

Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Politics in the United States is an unforgiving school of hard knocks: if you dare attend this school, be ready to take it as you dish it out.
Unfortunately for Sarah Palin, she was the new kid in the classroom, and as we gleaned from the article, she was unprepared for the lessons she needed to learn.
She was caught short of money to buy the textbooks for her studies. Her flippant atatcks on Herr Obama went nowhere, upset John McCain and riled many disciples of the Republican Party.
Instead of taking notes and learning how to survive in rough waters, she spoke too soon as when someone who blurts out the answers when they speak out of turn.
In school, you're usually called to answer a question or state a fact from the teacher or professor; but no one told her when to run; she missed the starting gun. So therafter she spoke when she felt like it, angering McCain after "class" i.e., the campaign, was over. People in her party wanted to kick her out of the G.O.P. classroom.
Now back home in Alaska, she is left wondering what to do next: pursue the Presidency or remain provincial and run Alaska. It'll be a tough choice.
She got a sniff of what it will take to succeed in that rigorous school in D.C. For the moment, it augurs well for her to be a serious student and the best thing for her to do is to change her tone. No name calling, don't speak about innuendos or half-truths; the professors will smell a phony-a plagiarist.
So Sarah, I've got nothing against you, but let this be a lesson learned. In short, try a little tenderness. A little compassion.

Yes, the saner ticket won the election. But not by a margin that lets us relax and write off the poisonous far right as dead.

This woman genuinely believes that the hand of God -- and the Dominionist God at that -- is upon her. And so does a big chunk of America!

News items that make her look ridiculous are a good thing. I know I'm foolish even to hope for such a thing, but I would dearly love it if we were rehashing the facts that illustrate how dangerous she is.

Her "power of hate" rallies, where she used statements even she knew weren't true to whip her ignorant, hysterical followers into shouting death threats, have vanished from the public consciousness. Even here among the progressive chattering class, most people seem to have forgotten the shouts of "traitor!" and "kill him!" in favor of harmless "caribou Barbie".

If all I can get it "Wasilla hillbillies" -- I'll take it, gratefully. Anything to let the air out of this scary theocrat's political tires.

Re "strong, principled woman"---What principles are you talking about, exactly? I could imagine a principle against revving up a crowd so that it turns into a rabid mob screaming for the death of the opponent. Or maybe a principle against ignoring and sabotaging the team, in your own self-interest, when you're supposed to be part of a team. Then there are the principles that go with parenthood, like not taking your kids out of school, dragging them all over the country, and letting them sit for hours in Green Rooms so that you can use them as stage props in your professional life. And is Palin showing strength when she takes ownership of NOTHING that goes wrong but is so quick to blame anyone and everyone else that her buck-passing doesn't even make sense: tonight on TV she was blaming the media for McCain's campaign staff ratting her out.

Palin should be held accountable for inciting hate

What is truly frightening is Palin's irresponsible use of a casual connection with Ayers to create hate language such as "palling with terrorists" and "Democrats think terrorists are the good guys". US secret service coming out saying they saw a direct correlation between death threats to Obama and Palin hate rhetoric. Stories of RNC financed tan sprays and silk shorts for Todd, thinking Africa was a country, the VP as boss of the Senate , backyard foreign policy experience, a journalist not knowing what the 1st amendment means, all pale in comparison with a short-sided, self-serving use of hate to denigrate an opponent. Palin and McCain campaign should apologize to the American people for such low road tactics sending us back into the dark ages of McCarthyism, especially since they have the serious potential of inciting fringe groups into carrying out heinous acts. We need accountability in American politics. Let's hope and pray such ignorance never gets so close to the White house again !!!

Palin is a Dominionist. Don't yawn -- this is a movement we need to be aware of.

"Christians have an obligation, a mandate, a commission, a holy responsibility to reclaim the land for Jesus Christ -- to have dominion in civil structures, just as in every other aspect of life and godliness. But it is dominion we are after. Not just a voice. It is dominion we are after. Not just influence. It is dominion we are after. Not just equal time. It is dominion we are after. World conquest. That's what Christ has commissioned us to accomplish. We must win the world with the power of the Gospel. And we must never settle for anything less... Thus, Christian politics has as its primary intent the conquest of the land -- of men, families, institutions, bureaucracies, courts, and governments for the Kingdom of Christ." (From The Changing of the Guard: Biblical Principles for Political Action by George Grant, published in 1987 by Dominion Press) This is the intro to an overview of the movement and collection of links.

So why are Regent University and Patrick Henry College busily pumping their grads into the Federal government? They are literally working to establish the Kingdom of Christ, to fill the government with the right kind of true believer so that when God puts an anointed one into the Presidency, the bureaucracy will be there waiting for him/her. Sarah Palin -- and many others -- believed that, in the Presidential race just ended, God had chosen her for that role.

Why was Sarah Palin so fearless when offered the VP candidacy? Why does she cheerfully assume that 2008 was simply a warmup for her 2012 Presidential candidacy? It wasn't just "Barbie" cluelessness. She, and many others, believe that God put her into her roles as Mayor and Governor. The famous clip of the Kenyan witch doctor laying hands on her was part of the preparations for her gubernatorial run. And they believe that God intends her to head the nation, thus bringing about the goal Dominionists believe God set them to accomplish.

Don't doze off on this topic -- "Caribou Barbie" is the disarming mask of a determined Christian theocrat with substantial lunatic-fringe backing.

I hope.

But we're probably too stupid as a country to relegate this idiot to the trash can.

btw, I wonder why there was no mention of the prank call where she thought the Hustler "documentary" Nailin' Palin was good.

This article redistributes anonymous allegations while ignoring comments completely to the contrary that are on the record by top McCain advisors and Palin herself.

The chief briefer for Palin categorically denied the statements that she didn't know who was in NAFTA, as did she, when she pointed out that Alaska worked through NAFTA in its agreements with Canada. The same man said the idea that she didn't know Africa was a continent was "laughable." Palin herself oversaw the issue of whether Alaska's Investment Fund would divest from Sudan. Her briefer said she was well informed about Africa, although not so much about other regions.

Numerous aides *on the record* using their own names have refuted the diva suggestion.

A McCain advisor *on the record* admitted he approved Palin's call with the Canadians who said they were Sarkozy.

The campaign manager and other advisors denied she broke the Ayers story without permission, *on the record.*

And yet, this information is not included here.

All of these on the record comments can be found in major newspapers accessible through google news search.

I didn't vote for McCain/Palin and I don't think she's qualified to be any level of national politician. But that doesn't mean she deserves to be attacked with lies.

She is dangerous and is not done!

i can guarantee that Sarah Palin will be back, and more dangerous than ever. then at some point in time, most likely 2012, will hook up with Jeb Bush and will run for the presidency. They are both very, very dangerous people. Each of them has the total support of their religions, as well as the total support of the GOP and the Neocons. Either one of these people is very dangerous. Both of them are religious crazies.

If the GOP does not get it's way they will release these two people on the entire nation and then on the entire world. If the religious right does not get it's way it will do the same as the GOP. All of them have murder in their eyes. The GOP is full of people who are terrified, fearful and enormously greedy, all at the same time.

There are some circumstances (Obama, new younger evangelicals who are different than their older counterparts, and another earth shaking religious event, not the Rapture but a kind of meta Rapture, that you will know when you see it happening) which may mitigate against the danger inherent in these two aforementioned people, and hopefully these circumstances will come into play, but if not we had better beware.

Palin and Jeb Bush are very, very dangerous. George W. Bush and Cheney are sometimes rational, by comparison. Palin and Jeb Bush are a cataclysmic meta religious event, waiting to happen. Both of them will come highly supported and endorsed by their respective religions and by the Neocons as well as by the GOP.

Now is the time to understand Sarah Palin and to arm(turn on) your mental alarms for her return to the national stage.

Now is the time to talk about Sarah Palin and get a down deep understanding of her mindset. We will then be more likely to see her for what she is and we can be on the alert for her.

We dodged a bullet, this time. If we are aware, we may be able to do so once again. This danger is a very real and a highly likely possibility.

Chaos, economic chaos is upon us right now. People will be looking for a charismatic savior. Obama is such a down to earth guy that he is unlikely to be such a charismatic savior. George Bush and the GOP have dug a deep economic hole for the USA, as well as a broad hole, one that has engulfed the entire world. If Obama-Biden can solve these huge economic problems then Palin-Bush may not come to pass. If not... I leave that scenario up to your imagination.

Sara Palin is what the Republican party is all about, ignorance. The good Republicans know how to wield ignorance into power. That is why Republicans are against real education. It increases their power base. Is she any dumber than shrub?
Just because someone can't name a country does not mean they are not knowledgeable of peoples needs. I am less afraid of people like Sara Palin than people that are geographically talented, but have devious objectives. Sara Palin is obvious. The less obvious are the ones that creat and maintain the problems. They can give slick explanations to sucker everybody.

Much as I don't like Sarah Palin's politics, and I am so glad she is not in direct line for the presidency, I have to point out that it appears that this whole Eisenstadt thing is a hoax. See http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081113/ap_en_tv/palin_hoax_1
and of course numerous blogs all over the sphere.
I love apocryphal stories but I wish this one was true.

This crap is the equivalent of James Carville's lies about Ralph Nader and the 2000 election, simplistic crap meant to give the operatives an excuse for running such a half-assed campaign. In the meantime, Bob Bird of that terrible Alaska Independence Party actually cost Ted Stevens the election. But don't let the facts get in the way.Stay out of Alaska. It's way too independent for you.P.S. Why no comment about Mary Matalin's script for PALIN? You know, James Carville's other half.

a source similar to that of Ted Stevens. Has there been anything further on that? Houses are common laundry vehicles for illegal money.
