House Fails to Pass Bailout, Dow Plunges 777 Points

The House on Monday defeated a $700 billion emergency rescue package, ignoring urgent pleas from President Bush and bipartisan congressional leaders to quickly bail out the staggering financial industry.
Stocks started plummeting on Wall Street even before 228-205 to reject the bill was announced on the House floor.

The Congress has just voted down the proposed bipartisan bailout package:

The vote failed in part because the Republican leadership failed to deliver the 70-100 votes needed from the conservative side. Before the vote, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) implored his GOP colleagues to vote in favor of the negotiated bailout proposal, almost breaking down into tears. Watch it:
