Video: Teens Wage Israeli-Palestinian Peace

- Teenage Hands of Peace participants from Israel, Palestine, and the United States pose in the shape of a peace sign.
Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations remain mired in gridlock and violence seems likely to escalate. Amidst this sobering news, I'd like to introduce the Tikkun community to some courageous teenagers who spent this summer waging their own tikkun olam.
For the past four years, I've served as Program Director at Hands of Peace, a Chicago-based interfaith dialogue camp for Israeli, Palestinian, and American teenagers. This summer, Hands of Peace introduced a new activity: we divided the teens into five small groups that produced their own short films. The only instruction that the teens received was to make a roughly two-minute film related to the theme of peace.
In only four hours, the teenagers worked collaboratively to capture their mutual humanity, suffering, political perspectives, and unique personalities on camera. Their diverse videos are joyous, cynical, emotional, raw, and full of yearning. These teens give me a sliver of hope that empathy and justice-driven peace from the grassroots really is possible. Please share these videos widely, and help these teens to influence others.
