Fmr. Bush Speechwriter Frum: Republicans Work for Fox News
Just a day after he called the Democrats’ health care win a “ Waterloo” for Republicans, former Bush speechwriter David Frum again criticized the GOP -- this time charging that irrational pundits like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh were given too much control in what could have been a productive debate.
"Republicans originally thought that Fox worked for us and now we're discovering we work for Fox,” he told ABC’s Terry Moran on Monday. “And this balance here has been completely reversed. The thing that sustains a strong Fox network is the thing that undermines a strong Republican party."
Frum added that Republicans failed to make productive use of the anger many Americans felt about health reform. Instead, he said, they let it reach a chaotic boil -- one that Democrats were able to sidestep.
"The anger trapped the [Republican] leadership," Frum said, and "the leadership discovered they have no room to maneuver as a result of the anger."
