Pacquiao-Mayweather mega fight is an easy sell

The trash talking has started, venues are lining up to play host and Floyd Mayweather is leaving no doubt that he wants Manny Pacquiao who many believe replaced him atop the pound-for-pound list.

"US boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. is seen watching a basketball match in Las Vegas, Nevada, in October. The trash talking has started, venues are lining up to play host and Mayweather is leaving no doubt that he wants Manny Pacquiao who many believe replaced him atop the pound-for-pound list."

"The world is much more intrigued by the thought of someone fighting me who can beat me," Mayweather said. "Manny Pacquiao's people have done a good job of creating an image of him to be this unbelievable fighter and now the so-called guy to beat me."

Promoter Bob Arum said he is ready to put the fight together and the likely division would be the 147-pound welterweight class. Pacquiao won the World Boxing Organization welterweight belt on the weekend by beating Miguel Cotto in a stunning 12th round technical knockout.

Pacquiao said following the Cotto fight he is comfortable at that weight despite having to move up in class.

Golden Boy Promotions chief Richard Schaefer is expected to play a role in negotiating a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight with Arum.

Arum said venues are lining up to win the right to host the mega showdown, including Las Vegas where Pacquiao beat Cotto on Saturday.

There has been talk of building a temporary 30,000 seat outdoor stadium on the Las Vegas strip outside the old Frontier casino.

"Manny Pacquiao (pictured) has looked unbeatable in his past three fights while Floyd Mayweather is coming off a win over Juan Manuel Marquez."

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has also said he would like to major sporting events at his new 1.2 billion dollar Cowboys Stadium.

America also has another new mega stadium in New York's Bronx neighbourhood, the home of the New York Yankees.

Pacquiao has looked unbeatable in his past three fights while Mayweather is coming off a win over Juan Manuel Marquez.

"It's not so much that I give a damn whether this fight happens - I don't - and for me it's not the greatest experience doing a promotion with Floyd Mayweather," Arum said. "But not to do this fight would slow down the momentum of boxing."

A Pacquiao-Mayweather fight is expected to attract massive purses and major sponsors like Pepsi and Subway.

"It has to happen. The stars are aligned and both fighters want it," said HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg. "If it doesn't, it would be devastating to the sport."
