Racist Buchanan: "Militant" Gays and Van Jones Got Me Blacklisted from MSNBC

After years of remarks ranging from questionable to downright racist, Pat Buchanan has finally stopped getting the star treatment on MSNBC and has not appeared on the network in months. According to MSNBC brass, this move is essentially thanks to the controversy around his latest book and its notorious chapter called "The Death of White America," which blames said "death" on an influx of immigrants.

Buchanan is far from contrite, as his interview with radio host Hugh Hewitt shows, via HuffPo: 

"Look, for a long period of time the hard left, militant gay rights groups, militant -- they call themselves civil rights groups, but I'm not sure they're concerned about civil rights -- people of color, Van Jones, these folks and others have been out to get Pat Buchanan off TV," Buchanan continued. "This has been done for years and years and years and it's the usual suspects doing the same thing again."

Buchanan has recently been the target of a sustained campaign from Color of Change, the group Jones founded, as well as the Human Rights Campaign and the Anti-Defamation League.

Meanwhile, Gawker's Hamilton Nolan makes the point that MSNBC should have done this a long time ago and is probably trying to save its reputation for election season, not take a real stand against Buchanan's noxious views: 

Former Nixonite and coonskin cap-wearing sometime presidential candidate Pat Buchanan has always been a racist relic who appealed mostly to those caveman-like Americans anxious for a return to the Andrew Jackson era. Always. There has never been a time, during his long career as a smiley pundit, in which he was not a racist.
