Ron Paul Believes Segregation-Ending Civil Rights Act "Destroyed Privacy"

 It's no secret that Ron Paul is a recorded racist, but his recent attempts to distance himself from his racist newsletters haven't really been convincing. Add his appearance on CNN's State of the Union last night, and it makes it pretty hard for apologists to make the case that he's anything but.

When asked by host Cindy Crowley about a statement he made in 2004 claiming that the Civil Rights Act did not actually help squash racism, when he was the sole member of Congress to vote against its symbolic 40th anniversary vote. So he clarified:

“If you try to improve relationships by forcing and telling people what they can’t do, and you ignore and undermine the principles of liberty, then the government can come into our bedrooms,” Paul explained. “And that’s exactly what has happened. Look at what’s happened with the PATRIOT Act. They can come into our houses, our bedrooms our businesses … And it was started back then.”

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 ended segregation and Jim Crow laws that treated blacks as less than equal to whites in this country, so it's unclear where the great intrusion is, unless Ron Paul simply wants his right to discriminate back. At any rate, it's unclear what exactly USA PATRIOT has to do with the Civil Rights Act outside of Paul's own convoluted mind. Watch the clip below, via Mediaite.
