Albany Votes to Ban Fracking
If New York decides to go ahead with fracking, it will clearly be against the wishes of so many of its residents. The state's capital city just voted to ban the controversial gas drilling practice this week.
Local news reported:
City of Albany has banned fracking. Over a hundred testified at the Common Council Meeting in favor of the gas drilling ban Monday night. But some local businesses fear fracking will hurt the local economy.
Albany is now the second major city in New York to ban fracking in an 8 to 5 vote.
Claire Sandberg, Executive Director of Frack Action, said, "Fracking poses extreme threats to public health, and all signs indicate that fracking would be ruinous for our economy in the long-term, despite the rosy picture painted by gas companies. We commend the Common Council for their passage of this common sense ordinance, and hope to see the same protections extended to citizens across the state."
