In the wake of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s contested June 12 victory, Iran has seen an eruption of protests. Attempting to quell these demonstrations, Iranian authorities have acted brutally: riot police have severely beaten many, and several people have been fatally shot, eyewitnesses say.

Additionally, Iranian authorities have waged an all-out information war, jamming cell phones, text messaging and e-mail. Without access to events unfolding on the ground, the entire world community will be unable to support the plight of Iranians who seek reform. Join Amnesty International in their call on Iranian authorities to cease violent activity and lift their ban on information.
