Economist: TSA Screenings Will Cause More Deaths

The TSA's invasive screening procedures may lead to a spike in highway deaths, as more people decide to drive instead of fly in order to avoid the TSA's full-image body scanner or getting groped by airport security agents.

"Driving is much more dangerous than flying, as you are far more likely to be killed in an automobile accident mile-for-mile than you are in an airplane. The result will be that the new TSA procedures will kill more Americans on the highway.” says economist Steven Horwitz in the Hill.

Public opposition to the TSA's use of the technology has been building for weeks, after it was revealed that a scanner in a Florida courthouse had saved thousands of images, contradicting the agency's claims that they disappeared immediately after being viewed. Last week, a San Diego man was ejected from an airport and threatened with a fine when he refused to go through the full- body scanner. Scientists have testified that the technology has serious potential health risks.
