For Gay Americans, There's Strength in Numbers

By Deb Price, Creators Syndicate. Posted April 2, 2007.

Gay people have always sensed that we're everywhere but, until now, have lacked the numbers to prove it.

Sorry, but this article is no longer available on AlterNet.

The Numbers Are Large

I spent 8 years in the Army and worked in 2 jobs (4 years Photographer & 4 years Diagnostic Medical Imaging) that put me in close contact with troops of all services, ranks, races, etc. on a daily basis. I assure you that the number of gays in the military is large, has been and probably always has been.

DADT is BS. The only problem with a homosexual or bisexual in uniform is if they are closeted because it makes them vulnerable to blackmail- a definite security risk. If they are out and open about their sexuality there is no problem.

As to the living arrangements I didn't have a problem with my gay roommate in the College Dorm or in the Army Barracks- they were both great people and we respected each other. Mark and Tony both had the same arrangement with me that most hetero roommates would have about sleep-overs.

Gay people should be free to be open about their sexuality without fear of discrimination. Jut as having a black roommate has opened the eyes of many crackers, having a gay roommate would go miles to opening minds about GLBT people. Hanging out with them will not only be a good time- you'll probably meet a lot of nice people you might have not otherwise met.

As to those claiming to be Christians, remember this:

Do unto others as you would have others to unto you.

It's all about respect, tolerance and basic human decency.

Gay men will never be accepted in the military, and here's why

The military doesn't want out gay men in the military; however, believe me it has done the psych studies and desperately needs homophobic latent and partially (leaning) gay young men, because they are the easiest and most consistently reliable young men to turn into unthinking killers of other men. The ultimate act of self-hatred and self-preservation for any gay-leaning male (and everyone is on a continuum; few people are 100% straight or 100% gay) is to turn that hatred outside and physically destroy other males, the OBJECT of their sexual interest. It goes all the way from country-western bars to the highest ranks of the military, and is the real key to homophobia. Destroy the object and you destroy the drive to mate with it. Only it doesn't work. So you have to keep doing it. Perfect for the military.

A man that is 100% straight has nothing to fear from either homosexuals OR homosexuality; indeed, he welcomes it, because it makes the playing field of available men and the competition much less numerous. A man that is 100% gay on the other hand is likely to have more empathy for his fellow man than the male "norm", and the fear is he might choke in battle, not because of sexual interest, but because of INCREASED HUMANITY.

The best soldiers are young men that are on the continuum in the middle and on both sides of it, truly conflicted about their sexuality and intensely irritated and dismayed about their homosexual leanings. They are the ones that can be turned into psychopaths most easily, and utilized by the military to kill other young males most effectively.

Sparta is a textbook example. Not the recent movie, but real history. Also Alexander the Great.

That is why all military ads are so homo-erotic. They know exactly what they are doing, and have known since the 60's when all these studies were first done.

On the other hand, with the violence that is rampant in the female gay community by dykes doing their best to prove they are every bit as violent and vicious as men, the military has no problem at all with gay women who KNOW they are gay, and has been actively seeking them for more than a decade. The military knows that most dykes would have no problem killing a man, and a woman if it came right down to it.

It comes down to having something to prove to themselves; for the men, it is proving that they are not lovers of other men, they are destroyers of them; and for the women, it is proving that they can be every bit as vicious as a man, if not even more so.

Sick? Beyond all measure.

Gay Numbers - Actuary Needed

A thin, multi-pierced young man with a green blaze in his hair is walking down a high school corridor. He approaches a hulking figure, in this case the school's starting defensive tackle, who is noisily slamming shut his locker. “Hey Dude, do you know which room the gay lesbian meeting's in?" "Yeh, go up that stairwell and turn right. You'll see it."

Neither young man gives this hallway exchange a moment's thought or reflection. The point is that, comparatively speaking, young people give less and less a fig about gay-lesbian activities, including whether or not G-L's serve in the military or appropriate the word marriage to consummate their emotional and contractual needs.

What exists now is that a high percentage of older voters are against gay marriage and gay troops thus controlling the voting outcome on these issues. With certitude, this will change as seniors leave the voting rolls and youth join. Polling will not only confirm this trend but also actuarially divine the future year in which the majority of American voters will vote to allow open gay military service and gay marriage.
