The Patriot Act Goes to a Strip Club

Posted by Rachel on November 6, 2003 @ 1:52PM

The investigation of Las Vegas strip-club owner Michael Galardi appears to be the first time federal authorities have used the Patriot Act in a public corruption probe. According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, this is the first instance in which federal agents investigating racketeering and bribery allegations have employed the act.

Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-Nev.), told the paper that she was preparing an inquiry to the FBI about its guidelines for using the Patriot Act in cases that don't involve terrorism. The law makes it easy for citizens' rights to be abused, she said.
