Like 60,000 Other Gazans, We've Taken Our Belongings and Fled

By Fares Akram, Independent UK. Posted January 13, 2009.

Even if the warplanes are gone by the time our baby is born, Israel's siege will keep the flames of this conflict alive for generations to come.

We've left our home. Like 60,000 other Gazans, we've taken our belongings and fled. Once again, we've become displaced people. Soon, there will be nowhere to run to, since nowhere in Gaza is safe. In the early hours of Saturday, the bombing got louder and closer to our home, and the rattle of machine-gun fire became more intense. The tanks were not far off.

As I lay in the dark, I heard the sound of small-arms fire and voices in the street outside. Since the Israeli offensive began, our city streets have been deserted during the hours of darkness; even the dogs that usually annoy us with their all-night barking have vanished. The voices were Palestinian militants: "Stay close to the wall!" "Go by the wall!", I could hear them shouting to each other. I didn't dare go to the window, fearing snipers, but tried listening to the radio. The FM stations run by Palestinian factions had no information, just talk about the "heroic actions" of their militants.

My thoughts went to my wife, Alaa, so, at dawn, I phoned her. Alaa is nine months pregnant and we evacuated her last week to her parents' place in the western part of the city. As I expected, she was in a state of panic.

At 6am, I looked out of the window. The entire neighborhood was leaving. From a residential complex to the west, they were all leaving, carrying bags, mattresses, blankets, personal belongings. Cars were stuffed full of luggage, and everyone was rushing because the sound of bombing enveloped us.

I used to say we would never leave our home, but when you see everyone else on the move, how can you stay? Barely a week since my father was killed by an Israeli air strike on our small northern Gaza farm as the ground invasion began, we were facing another terrible dilemma. I thought of the Samouni family, killed last week while sheltering in a house together, and decided we had to go.

I took Alaa's jewellery, my laptop and phone, my notes and papers, and some clothes. My mother, sisters and their children drove away to take shelter at my sister's house. I walked with the people in the street.

Leaving your home like this is pitiful; you feel almost ashamed. But there's no mercy with the Israelis in this operation. Previously, they weren't so harsh on civilians. But now, although they say they target Hamas, it seems they target anyone.

I am now at Alaa's parents' house. Here, there are 100 people in a building usually occupied by 20. The whole district is overcrowded as most of those who fled other parts of Gaza have come here. But late on Saturday afternoon, the flyers warning of an escalation started landing along with the bombs. "To the residents of the Gaza Strip," the leaflets read. "The IDF will escalate its operations in the imminent period against the tunnels, military warehouses and terrorist elements all over the Gaza Strip. For your safety and the safety of your family you are required not to remain near terrorist elements, the storage of military means, or close to sites from where terrorist operations are launched."

Well, we fled our home because of the militants -- or terrorists, as the Israelis call them -- but now they were dropping the flyers here too. Gaza is a small place and the Israelis have shut the borders, so we can't escape. Are they simply trying to terrify us further?

In the midst of the chaos, I managed to get Alaa to see a nurse, and then to the hospital yesterday. The nurse said Alaa is going into the early stages of labor. Her blood pressure is slightly up, and she's dizzy. At the hospital, the doctor said they may induce her labour on Wednesday. For a few moments, amid the newborn babies in the maternity ward, Alaa forgot our predicament and looked joyful.

Before sunset last night, the Israeli forces dropped more leaflets urging people to phone them with information about rocket sites. I hear they are also talking about the endgame. And we, the Palestinians, shouldn't lie to ourselves: they have achieved some of their goals. There are fewer rockets being fired across the border into Israel, and we've heard that six Hamas leaders have fled to Egypt by tunnel.

But what they have achieved has been at the expense of the Palestinian civilians. Hundreds of children have been killed or injured. They have seen their parents terrified and powerless to protect them. In the future, who will they turn to for protection? Even if the warplanes are gone by the time our baby arrives later this week, what Israel has done in the past two weeks will keep the flames of this conflict alive for generations to come.

A reality primer on who is the REAL war criminal in Gaza - Hamas.

A reality primer on who is the REAL war criminal in Gaza - Hamas.

A temporary cease-fire in Gaza that simply allows Hamas to obtain more lethal weapons will assure a repetition of Hamas' win-win tactic of firing rockets at Israeli civilians while using Palestinian civilians as human shields.

The best example of Hamas' double war crime tactic was Tuesday, when it succeeded in sending a rocket to a town less than 20 miles south of Tel Aviv and injuring a child. At the same time, it provoked Israel to attack a United Nations school from which Hamas was launching its rockets. Residents of the neighborhood said two Hamas fighters were in the area at the time, and the Israeli military said they had been killed, according to the New York Times.

The Hamas tactic of firing rockets from schools, hospitals and mosques dates back to 2005, when Israel ended its occupation of Gaza. Several months ago, the head of the Israeli air force showed me a videotape (now available on YouTube) of a Hamas terrorist deliberately moving his rocket launcher to the front of a U.N. school, firing a rocket and then running away, no doubt hoping that Israel would then respond by attacking the rocket launcher and thus killing Palestinian children in the school.

This is the Hamas dual strategy: to kill and injure as many Israeli civilians as possible by firing rockets indiscriminately at Israeli civilian targets, and to provoke Israel to kill as many Palestinian civilians as possible to garner world sympathy.

Let's STOP Hamas' evil activities and have lasting peace in Israel and Gaza!

Love of Neighbor Requires Exposing Falsehoods

Now, with respect Palestine there is a scripture all should consider, 1 Peter 3:11, “Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.” (Authorized King James Bible; AV).

But neither the Ishmaelites – Hamas, nor the Hebrews – Israelites are considering it. Strange as they are both descendants of Abraham, one by Ishmael and one by Issac.

Now, even though the Ishmaelites control over 98% of the Middle East, they are greedy for the less than 2% of the Middle East belonging to their brother tribe, the Hebrews – Israelites. This is NOT the way for the descendants of Abraham who walked with Almighty God (YHWH) to act.

Why is this? It is because neither is walking with the TRUE GOD as did Abraham, but both are being mislead by none other than Satan the Devil per 2 Corinthians 4:4, “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” (AV).

In fact, the Ishmaelites instead of pursuing peace in accordance with what Jesus (Yeshua) the Son of God said at Matthew 22:37-40 said, “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (AV).

This is clearly shown by what one Australian Newspaper said, "Did you know that 90-95% of the conflicts in the world today are Muslims fighting non-muslims or each other? " [source - The Weekend Australian, November 26-27, 2005 AD]"

However, what the world needs is peace, not war. So clearly we can see that the Ishmaelites are in a false religion not walking with Almighty God (YHWH), the God of Abraham; nor are the Hebrews who do not recognize his son, Jesus (Yeshua), anymore than the Ishmaelites.

All need to be showing love for neighbor by exposing false beliefs that are ruining mankind by misleading him from walking with the True God of Abraham, Almighty God (YHWH).

NOW A QUESTION

NOW A QUESTION

Why do the residents of Gaza keep firing rockets and mortars at Israel if they do NOT like the humanitarian conditions it creates? Is it some kind of irrational insane self induced flagellations. It just does NOT make sense to me.

That makes as much sense as a carpenter who hits his thumb instead of the nail purposely doing it again and again – most would consider this a mental case as I do Hamas’ actions.

game....and Hamas is continuing this plan.....

Palestinians still live in refugee camps, even when the camps are in Palestinian Authority controlled areas, because the PLO opposes and prevents refugee resettlement. As the PLO slogan goes, A Palestinian refugee never moves out of his camp except to return home (ie, to Israel).

While the PLO has done its best to keep Palestinians in refugee camps, Israel has done its best to move Palestinians out of the camps and into new homes. Israel even started a heavily subsidized “build-your-own-home” program for Palestinian refugees. According to an early description of the program:

Nine new residential schemes have been built so far, housing some ten thousand families that have chosen to vacate the camps. Each family was given a plot of land with full infrastructure...

The new neighborhoods were built on state land within municipal areas near the camps, and each had an electricity network, water and a sanitation system ... a road system, paved sidewalks and developed surroundings. Public buildings were constructed in each neighborhood such as modern schools, health clinics and shopping centers, and land was allocated for mosques.

... As soon as his house is built, the refugee becomes the full property owner, and in due course his property is registered in the Land Register. (Judea, Samaria and the Gaza District, 1967 – 1987; Israel, Ministry of Defense, 1987)

Sheik Radwan, Gaza: New houses for Palestinian refugees built by Israel. (1977, Moshe Milner) Sheik Radwan, Gaza: Road construction in neighborhood built for Palestinian refugees by Israel (1977, Moshe Milner)

The vacated homes in the refugee camps were taken down with the goal of eventually creating enough open space so that the camps themselves could be rebuilt as further new neighborhoods for the refugees.

It’s not surprising that the PLO vehemently opposed this program – after all, former residents of a refugee camp, now living in a nice home in a new neighborhood, would have a stake in supporting peace and opposing violence, exactly the opposite of the PLO’s strategy.

What is perhaps surprising is that the United Nations also opposed the program, and passed harsh resolutions demanding that Israel remove the Palestinians from their new homes and return them to the squalid camps. For example, UN General Assembly Resolution 31/15 of Nov. 23, 1976:

Calls once more upon Israel:

(a) To take effective steps immediately for the return of the refugees concerned to the camps from which they were removed in the Gaza Strip and to provide adequate shelters for their accommodation;

(b) To desist from further removal of refuges and destruction of their shelters.

Similarly, UNGA Resolution 34/52 of November 23, 1979 declared that:

measures to resettle Palestinian refugees in the Gaza Strip away from their homes and property from which they were displaced constitute a violation of their inalienable right to return;

1. Calls once more upon Israel to desist from removal and resettlement of Palestinian refugees in the Gaza Strip and from destruction of their shelters;

Perhaps thanks to this support from the UN, the PLO began threatening to kill any refugee who would move out of the camps. After a few such attacks, the build-your-own-home program died, and that is why there are still Palestinians refugee camps in Gaza.

IF THIS IS THE GOAL...KEEPING THE PALESTINIANS DESTITUTE...THEN WHAT IS THE BARGAINING CHIP FOR A CEASE FIRE?

What to make of this?

What are we supposed to make of the dreadful and infuriating anecdotes of war victims AlterNet keeps posting? These articles, whether truthful or enhanced, are predictable in content and no more newsworthy than are pious calls for "peace", cease-fire and truce, or than justifications, condemnations and other palaver. They are not journalism and serve merely as polemic, inflaming readers who are already inflamed and inducing compassion fatigue in the rest.

This is not an issue of suppressing the truth, but editorial decisions to emphasize the obvious amount to propaganda and management of the news nearly as much as would censorship or outright fabrication.

The less hatred and vengeance that is aroused by printing more and more of these stories, the more hope there may be that fanaticism will lose its grip on the population on both sides of the onflict and that the people in the Israel/Palestine region will find a way to cooperate productively.

I am an independent researcher, who goes out and digs out the facts and presents them in the most balanced way possible. My research clearly shows the following:

[1] The land of all Palestine belongs to the Hebrews - Isralites and not to the Ishmaelites - Hamas. For details, read the 34 th. Chapter of Numbers in the Bible.

[2] In the 7 th. Century, Muslim Caliphs stole the land from the Hebrews - Isralites - and wrongly occupied the land - a wrongful occupation maintained until today in many parts of Palestine.

[3] All wrongful occupations should come to an end with the occupiers going back to where their ancestors came from. Take the example of America who rightfully occupied Japan after WWII, they built up the country and then LEFT.

[4] Peace, not cease fires, is what is needed. Hamas does NOT believe in peace and believes that Israel, the true owner of Palestine, should not exist - a wicked assumption.

[5] I am NOT a supporter of Israel, nor am I either a Jew or Zionist, but a conscious objector who believes in peace and what the Son of God [an individual who most of Jews do not believe in] Jesus (Yeshua) said, at Matthew 5:43-45, “Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.” Hamas does not believe in peace, but I believe that the Hebrews, Israelites, may believe in and want same.

Palestinians petition Hamas and you will not have to flee

Respectfully, Palestinians, if you petition stand up to Hamas and demand that they cease their campaigns of terror against civilian populations, give up demands for destruction of Israel and killing of the Jews, you will not have to flee. You will suffer no loss of life or injury. You will have peace. You will have your own State. You will benefit yourselves as a peaceful neighbor with Israel. Israeli's have been seeking a partner for peace since they were attacked in 1948. Bring Israel that partner. Assure the Israelis that they may live in peace and security and you will have peace so quickly your head will swim.

Remember, Jews will never again stand by and suffer slaughter and destruction. Yet, Israel will be the first to reach out its hand in peace as soon as you decide that peace is the way to go. So, put the pressure where it belongs on Hamas, Hezbollah, Al aqsa Brigade, Iran and Syria to end their sworn desires to destroy and eliminate Israel as a Jewish State and you will never have to flee again. Once you realize that Israel and Israelis are not the problem and that Hamas that takes advantage of you is, the faster you will achieve your objectives --- IF the objective is peace.

Fanning the Flames of Conflict
Posted by: Skelmo5000 on Jan 16, 2009 12:46 PM
Current rating: 1    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
I have to say I find it more than a little disingenuous to blame future decades of conflict in this region on this siege by Israel. Reprehensible? Yes. I want it to stop. But I don't have a lot of compassion for people whose governments and societies have set as their goal the destruction of the state of Israel, who have not been actively engaged in fighting this attitude, and then try to blame it all on Israel, and expect everyone else in the world to take their side. I would be much more easily persuaded if I had heard even one Palestinian voice arguing for a permanent peace with a permanent state of Israel. Admittedly, there must be some Palestinians who feel this way, but I never hear it, and everything I do hear is laced with hatred and bias.

The case of Israelis and Jews in the 20th century is as compelling as it gets. They need a place where they can protect themselves. Every time one of their neighbors attacks them, given their avowed goals, becomes further justification of the need of Jews and Israelis for a place of sovereignty.

I believe that if Israel had an opportunity to live in peace, unmolested by neighbors who think of nothing but its demise, that they would not engage in this kind of violence. Bear in mind, these are not border disputes. Sovereign Arab nations have avowed their intent to destroy Israel. Where is the dissent?

Let's Look At Reality Stripped Down To The Basics
Posted by: iris89 on Jan 19, 2009 8:52 AM
Current rating: Not yet rated    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
FIRST, I am an Independent Pragmatic Researcher who goes out and digs out the facts and presents them in the most honest and balanced way possible – let the truth be known per John 8:32, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (Authorized King James Bible; AV). I have been falsely accused and slandered by being called a Zionist, which I am NOT; crazy Christian fundamentalist, which I am NOT; etc.

Now why is this? It is because I make known truths that many just do not want to hear, but interestingly that none have ever been able to show as wrong.

SECOND, The reality is that we do not have peace in the world today. In today’s world many speak of truces and cease fires, not peace, but what we truly need is peace not cease fires and truces which are only a revolving door to more violence. Those promoting cease fires and truces are in reality the enemies of peace. Peace can only be had when hate in men’s hearts is replaced with love in keeping with the inspired word of Almighty God (YHWH), the Bible, in which Jesus (Yeshua) said at Matthew 5:43-45, “Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.” (Authorized King James Bible; AV). Now those NOT accepting this reality are the evil ones who seek to destroy world tranquility.

THIRD, Now let’s look at another reality – religion should be seeking to bring peace to mankind and if it is instilling hate, greed, and a lust for violence this form of religion should be dissolved and replaced by one seeking peace in keeping with 1 Peter 3:11, “Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.” (AV), and at 2 Corinthians 13:11, “Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.” (AV). When mankind practices peace the world will be a wonderful place. So all should be seeking to do as Ephesians 4:3 recommends to us, “Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” (AV).

As Matthew said at Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” (AV). Now does the following from an Australian newspaper sound like a religion seeking peace, or does it sound like one seeking a lust for violence,

"Did you know that 90-95% of the conflicts in the world today are Muslims fighting non-muslims or each other?” [source - The Weekend Australian, November 26-27, 2005 AD], now the question is, does this sound like a religion pursuing peace? No! I consider it as one pursuing intolerance and violence which are both items at war with the concept of peace. Should this be tolerated?

Loss of wrongfully occupied land is NOT loss of land. Learn the facts.

Al the Hebrews did was to take back some of their land. Some need to study history from 1,500 BC to present and start learning reality.
