Thousands of Troops Are Deployed on U.S. Streets Ready to Carry Out "Crowd Control"

Members of Congress were told they could face martial law if they didn't pass the bailout bill. This will not be the last time.

Background: the First Brigade of the Third Infantry Division, three to four thousand soldiers, has been deployed in the United States as of October 1. Their stated mission is the form of crowd control they practiced in Iraq, subduing "unruly individuals," and the management of a national emergency. I am in Seattle and heard from the brother of one of the soldiers that they are engaged in exercises now. Amy Goodman reported that an Army spokesperson confirmed that they will have access to lethal and non lethal crowd control technologies and tanks.

George Bush struck down Posse Comitatus, thus making it legal for military to patrol the U.S. He has also legally established that in the "War on Terror," the U.S. is at war around the globe and thus the whole world is a battlefield. Thus the U.S. is also a battlefield.

He also led change to the 1807 Insurrection Act to give him far broader powers in the event of a loosely defined "insurrection" or many other "conditions" he has the power to identify. The Constitution allows the suspension of habeas corpus -- habeas corpus prevents us from being seized by the state and held without trial -- in the event of an "insurrection." With his own army force now, his power to call a group of protesters or angry voters "insurgents" staging an "insurrection" is strengthened.

U.S. Rep. Brad Sherman of California said to Congress, captured on C-Span and viewable on YouTube, that individual members of the House were threatened with martial law within a week if they did not pass the bailout bill:
"The only way they can pass this bill is by creating and sustaining a panic atmosphere. … Many of us were told in private conversations that if we voted against this bill on Monday that the sky would fall, the market would drop two or three thousand points the first day and a couple of thousand on the second day, and a few members were even told that there would be martial law in America if we voted no."
If this is true and Rep. Sherman is not delusional, I ask you to consider that if they are willing to threaten martial law now, it is foolish to assume they will never use that threat again. It is also foolish to trust in an orderly election process to resolve this threat. And why deploy the First Brigade? One thing the deployment accomplishes is to put teeth into such a threat.

I interviewed Vietnam veteran, retired U.S. Air Force Colonel and patriot David Antoon for clarification:

"If the President directed the First Brigade to arrest Congress, what could stop him?"

"Nothing. Their only recourse is to cut off funding. The Congress would be at the mercy of military leaders to go to them and ask them not to obey illegal orders."

"But these orders are now legal?'"

"Correct."

"If the President directs the First Brigade to arrest a bunch of voters, what would stop him?"

"Nothing. It would end up in courts but the action would have been taken."

"If the President directs the First Brigade to kill civilians, what would stop him?"

"Nothing."

"What would prevent him from sending the First Brigade to arrest the editor of the Washington Post?"

"Nothing. He could do what he did in Iraq -- send a tank down a street in Washington and fire a shell into the Washington Post as they did into Al Jazeera, and claim they were firing at something else."

"What happens to members of the First Brigade who refuse to take up arms against U.S. citizens?"

"They'd probably be treated as deserters as in Iraq: arrested, detained and facing five years in prison. In Iraq a study by Ann Wright shows that deserters -- reservists who refused to go back to Iraq -- got longer sentences than war criminals."

"Does Congress have any military of their own?"

"No. Congress has no direct control of any military units. The Governors have the National Guard but they report to the President in an emergency that he declares."

"Who can arrest the President?"

"The Attorney General can arrest the President after he leaves or after impeachment."

[Note: Prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi has asserted it is possible for District Attorneys around the country to charge President Bush with murder if they represent districts where one or more military members who have been killed in Iraq formerly resided.]

"Given the danger do you advocate impeachment?"

"Yes. President Bush struck down Posse Comitatus -- which has prevented, with a penalty of two years in prison, U.S. leaders since after the Civil War from sending military forces into our streets -- with a 'signing statement.' He should be impeached immediately in a bipartisan process to prevent the use of military forces and mercenary forces against U.S. citizens"

"Should Americans call on senior leaders in the Military to break publicly with this action and call on their own men and women to disobey these orders?"

"Every senior military officer's loyalty should ultimately be to the Constitution. Every officer should publicly break with any illegal order, even from the President."

"But if these are now legal. If they say, 'Don't obey the Commander in Chief,' what happens to the military?"

"Perhaps they would be arrested and prosecuted as those who refuse to participate in the current illegal war. That's what would be considered a coup."

"But it's a coup already."

"Yes."

The insanity of Bush and his craven tyranny are well-established. It is equally well-established that Congress is a collective dung heap that will accede to every lunacy that Bush puts before it. No lucid individual could watch last week's "bailout" larceny and not be persuaded that he can scam this crowd at will, avoid impeachment and enrich himself and his cronies without the necessity of military intervention. Martial law? He doesn't need it and its threat is bullshit. There are several good reasons for such conclusion: Obama rollover on every pressing issue, Pelosi, Hoyer, Reid, Dodd and every turncoat Dipocrit that rejected grand larceny last Monday but shouted hallelujah on Friday when the unconscionable Senate pork was added to sway the naysayers. That's reality, this "reporting" is pandering, mindless drivel!

It has always been so.

The Great Depression was caused by private owners and riggers of a private Fascist bank labeled the "Federal Reserve" Corp (not "federal" and minis ZERO "reserves") as Fed chair Bernanke admitted:

Well guess what? They HAVE done again. And in spades. The current crash is the outcome of allowing a parasite Organized Monopoly Corporate Crime State to rule over the nation for 100 years. This the serial monster that makes a killing joke of false "democracy" and "capitalism" worldwide.

The ramifications are not just economic but measured in mass murder genocide of sham 9/11 "war on terror" of a thousand lies .

The private "Federal Reserve" sham basically works like this: The government granted its power to create money to private “FED” banks. The “FED” creates money out of thin air, then loans it back to the government [ i.e. the people ] charging interest. The government levies income taxes to pay the interest on the debt.

This core truth is not something you will hear on any campaign trail where both "candidates" are merely actors for Organized Corporate Crime at a Washington-MSM circus.

Again, once you control money, you own all that matters including government, military-industry, and of course, the media and "education".

The coup occurred in 1913. Until it is reversed, the world will sink into further moral and mortal terror at the hands of a Fascist ruling class that owns and rigs the system at public cost for private profit. It's that simple and that complex.

An Air Force Colonel, a man you'll think has at least a working knowledge of the relationships between the three constitutional branches, has gone on record as agreeing that a coup has occurred. Not in some banana republic, but in The Republic.

It's only just beginning ..... and it is only a matter of a small amount of time before terror comes to the streets, towns and small time lives of American citizens ..... then America can see what it's government has visited on millions of people around the globe over the last few decades in particular ..... the day of the suicide bomber is approaching and the havoc, fear, disruption and terror that this will bring in its wake will be cataclysmic

If I had been a member of congress and had been told that the country I love so much would be subject to martial law if I didn't agree to this "rescue plan" (Where are you George Orwell?) that, you can be sure, would have been my message to the president of the United States.

And to think, nearly a third of this country are so rib-ticklingly stupid, they actually believe that sending this idiot to the White House was a good idea. Come to think about it, I don't have to be a member of the House to deliver the message:

It is not Bush, he is only a puppet-actor. It is "the men behind the curtain" in Zeitgeistmovie.com who have just finished the abolition of the constitution. The US is now a dictatorship disguised as democracy, with elections being just Hollywood entertainment to keep people sleeping.

The coup occurred in 2001, when the Renazican brownshirts stormed into the little room in Florida where the vote was being manually recounted. This election, like the last two, is all smoke and mirrors, a mockery of the America that used to be. The installation of troops in this country to compel "crowd control" is probably the final stage of the coup, because the misery is now quickly descending on the greater populace--in the form of lost jobs, lost homes, and lost faith in the government that has promoted nothing but lies and fantasies for the past eight years. We have only ourselves to blame for losing the Republic. So sedated were we by the endless supply of stuff and the visual narcotics provided by tv that we forgot that it takes a great deal more than watching American Idol or embarking on shopping sprees after the twin towers collapsed to sustain a democracy.

We are in deep doodoo. We ordinary Americans must organize ourselves and DEMAND that our elected representatives uphold the Constitution. Of course WE must KNOW the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and not allow the dumbing down of our citizenry.

We must demand that impeachment proceedings begin - even now with less than a month before the election - in order to deflate the power of Bush/ Cheney to insure that the next administration actually arrives at the white house.

Could someone provide some references to when and by what means Posse Comitatus was rescinded and when the Insurrection Act was altered. I would also like to see some verification of who was threatened and who did the threatening. We need facts. Otherwise we are just engaging in the same fear mongering we accuse the right of doing.

I think we are all aware that Bush & Co has consolidated power in the executive branch and this of course is dangerous and could be seen as a coup of sorts. A more frightening possibility is it could even be that indeed our republic is already gone and while we sit this morning sipping our coffee and typing our little opinions it is all really gone.

What have we done...

The press is being threatened at Sarah Palin rallies. U.S. Troops are being deployed to control We The People. At least one major news network is under the control of The Party.

What are we going to do Nov. 5 if the worst happens? Knowing that massive protests will be dealt with by the U.S. Military?

Violence is clearly not the answer. It wouldn't be effective anyway.

However if Americans take to the streets everywhere, one Army division can't be everywhere at once. We need to plan mass rallies right outside the doors of local TV and Radio stations in every community in America so they CAN'T ignore us.

The situation is dire and our country needs us to act. First by trying to win this election, but if they steal it we need to be prepared to counter martial law.

and take a look at the RNC St paul event during their convention when Amy Goodman and two of her producers were arrested by a police force looking like they were from a sci -fi film...or like nazi Germany in the 1930's

I watched hours of that on tv

I knew then that fascism is here and now.

If anyone in the US armed forces kills another US citizen inside this country, or if the Congress were to be threatened by or detained by the military at the behest of some son-of-a-bitch like Bush, I believe that we would have no choice left to us as the citizens of America: it would become a war to restore our Constitution and bring down the Executive Branch.

I am deeply disturbed that we would even have to consider such an option, but fellow citizens, we cannot allow ourselves to be pushed into a corner so that secret armies can wonder the country and arrest us, jail us, kill us. THIS IS OUR COUNTRY, NOT THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH'S COUNTRY.

I can only wonder if the military would be so willing to dishonor their oath to defend the Constitution.

Republicans: you no longer have the right to ever say how much you love this country or it's people you hypocritical bastards. You should all be ashamed of yourselves for allowing us to reach this crossroad to hell.

If you look at the Defense Authorization Act of 2009 compared to 2008, Ft. Stewart's budget increased from $135 to $432 million targeted at "infrastructure improvements."

On October 1, 2008, the DHS spy satellite program went into effect.

On October 1, 2008, the Brigade started its "mission"

Military personnel just received a 3.9% pay raise.

Roughly a year ago b/w October 15th-20th 2007, NorthCom participated in a 5-day long "martial law exercise"

One of the non-lethal weapons they will have "containerized" may be the ADS or Silent Guardian (manufactured by Raytheon).

Bush has issued the signing statement as Naomi Wolf reports. She may right on target. They may never let Obama be president.

What might they do? Stage rioting in "battleground states" and then send in the militia and then perform "recounts" that favor McCain.

Wolf also stated that at age 72 and with his history of melanoma, McCain may have 2-4 years life expectancy. Then what? Sarah Palin?

Troubling times indeed.

Fascist Take-over End Game

Dear Patriots
Naomi sees the "writing on the wall" regarding the fascist takeover of this country. The bailout bill has a provision giving $100 billion to George Bush to use as he wishes. This bail-out Bill was pushed through Congress with threats of martial law if it was not passed. It was pushed through Congress just like the Patriot Act was pushed through Congress. Fear was the driving force. Fear is used by dictators to take control.

A military brigade from Iraq is being deployed on United States soil now to keep the peace. The Posse Comitatus Act, which forbade the deployment of military troops in this country to enforce the law, was thrown out by the Patriot Act. In 2006, when the Congress was taken back by the Democrats, the Democrats actually did something and reinstated this act. George Bush instead of vetoing it just signed another of his many " Signing Statements" Which Said That He Would Not Be Bound by This Reinstatement of the Posse Comitatus Act.

Prisons have been built across the country over the last several years by a subsidiary of Halliburton. Journalists were arrested at the Republican national convention. The Electronic Voting Machines Are in Place to Hack Another Election. The mainstream media is completely owned by five multi-national companies. The monetary policy of this country is controlled by international private central bankers which includes the Federal Reserve Bank and the Bank of England.

George Bush must be arrested for treason before it is too late.

Watch Naomi Wolf talk about the fascist take-over being in its “end game” stage.

I don't think the military can stop a group of determined Americans. It sounds a bit intimidating to bringing American troops on American Soil to control Americans but I don't think even the US military in it's present state can handle a large group of pissed off Americans.

For a really good watch regarding the creation of the federal reserve and the tax-amendment that was never ratified there is a movie out there called Freedom to Fascism. This documentary was filmed by Aaron Russo before his death. The very same guy that brought us the lethal weapon movies. Unfortunately, the address is far to long for this site to accept. I would suggest typing in "From Freedom to Fascism" in your browser windows and viewing the whole thing. It's time for all of us to educate ourselves quickly.

One of the most obvious differences between libertarians like me and those on the left vis a vis civil liberties is, we libertarians acknowledge the keeping and bearing arms as the *right* that it *is.*

Our founders, whatever else you think of them, were determined to add the Bill of Rights to the Constitution precisely because of situations like the one we are now in.

If the government gets out of line, it is not only our *right* but it is our *duty* to get it back in line, no matter what we have to do to achieve that.

And, they said, if all else fails and we absolutely have to use force, then we have to. And, this is reason number one why the citizenry needs to be armed. It is not pleasant to think about.

The number two reason is the fact that during chaos, some will stoop to the level of crime, and defense against that is called for too.

I just hope that we can change things in a peaceful, orderly way. Many view the upcoming election as a way to change. I personally don't as I am a Ron Paul supporter who plans to vote for Bob Barr, and I know full well he won't win. It is a matter of principle.

And, some view demonstrations and shouting out as a way to change. Maybe. Hopefully.

But, what if push comes to shove and someone is at your door saying, come along, you're going to a camp, and each family member is going to a different place?

Will you say "Yassir, yasssir, we go nicely, Boss" or will you be able to say, "No way, Jose" and make it stick?

It probably won't be that overt, but preparedness is key.

Your head is in the sand, man. The net is hot with documentation of everything Naomi Wolf reports here. You have not been paying attention. The rescinding of Posse Comitatus by exec. order happened a long time ago, 2001 or 2002. Go to youtube and look at clips of last week's debate on the "bailout" bill. See Congressman Sherman's speech and you'll also see some media interviews about the threats of imposing martial law by Monday, Oct 6. What Naomi Wolf is bringing together in cohesive format is information that has been available for years as it evolved, step by step. If you keep up on a daily basis, you wont be surprised or blind-sided. It is now a national emergency due to the stupefaction of the masses. We have very little time to get it back under control. If you think it isnt real, research what happened before the Republican convention in St. Paul, MN last month. If you think it isnt real, talk to the prisoners in the St. Paul jail who are looking at 5-7 years in prison for "planning terrorist activities". Their planned terrorism was to protest republican party policies and other policies by taking to the streets in demonstration. Research the raids on EyeWitness Video and the seizure of their equipment. Having challenged you, I say, Welcome Aboard, my brother. We are all in this together and can only succeed together to get this nation back on a legal, ethical and morally sound path.

After reading this article and thread go to washingtonpost.com 10-8 and read Dana Milbank's column describing Palin in Florida---or just google "palin florida" or "palin clearwater". She is perfecting her pit-bull act (which I think is actually more of a dominatrix act) and with her anti-Obama rhetoric sexing up her crowds so that they shout "Kill him!" and "Traitor!" and "Terrorist!". A crowd of 3000 "advanced menacingly" on the media (perceived as enemies of their beloved Sarah) brandishing thundersticks and shouting epithets, especially focusing on a sound technician who was black. So what we seem to have here is a demagogue who is very good at inciting a crowd to violence and who really gets into doing this. We have a month to go until the election. I wish it were tomorrow. This is not feeling good to me. Combination: an economy moving towards Depression, Hitler in high heels, plenty of guns.

My above comment was supposed to be directed to the previous post titled "hmmmm" by whathaway but I hit the wrong button
While I'm at it, though, I have to say that Naomi Wolf is putting herself in extreme danger in the most courageous way possible. She needs our help. Her call for action is the most urgent call you will ever hear in your lifetime. Google her name and get involved in what she is doing. The internet is NOT organizing and it is NOT action. Start by getting the movie: "The End of America" from IndiePix Films. Have house "parties" to watch it and discuss what to do next. You'll think of something. Time is VERY short ! !

It doesn't surprise me that Bush, Cheney, and the gang should once again over reach their authority. Their concept of our Constitution is comparable to toilet paper. Such a step only underscores that Americans must rise up. The democratic system has been circumvented and rendered impotent by the traitors who have infested Washington, D.C. If they are preparing for armed insurrection then armed insurrection is what they should get. There is great power in numbers, we have millions, they have a very small, over stretched military. I am very much apposed to the NRA and all that it stands for, however, we all must be thankful to them for allowing all of us to be as legally well armed as our own military. The power of millions of armed, angry, out of work, patriots can defeat tanks, lethal and non-lethal weapons. It is simply a matter of strategy and determination. If history has taught us anything it is that for every weapon there ia a weapon that can defeat it. Frankly, I do not believe that if push came to shove, regardless of the so-called "legality" of the orders that our men and women under arms would remain loyal to these traitors in the face of a massive uprising. After all they would be under orders to kill or incapacitate their own brothers, sisters, sons and daughters. I'd like to have faith in our Democracy but I fear that it is dying from the many stab wounds inflicted upon it by Bush, his administratin, Congress and the Senate. We no longer have faith in our leadership, economy, media, vote, or any aspect of our society. What do we have left? They have abused their power and must be taught the consequences of their actions. There is power in numbers.

Paulson had that Threat sitting in his desk for 6 months...He knew it was going to happen and He spent a whole 5 minutes writting up hte ransom note- Were the Letters Cut Outs?
Paulson basically confessed to Treasonous acts with forethought and malice with that 2 1/2 page Ultimatium!
This Economic melt down has been on course since the '80's- ya think it's a coincidence McCain is smack Dab in the middle of this one too...Keating to Phil Gramm, Mac never stopped his sell off of his Senate Seat to Corrupt Banking and Big Oil (Gramm ties the Two neatly in a lil' package...Media should finally Put a Bow on this Gift and hand it to the masses!)
Reason Obama did Not get any real flack from the Public about 'clinging to Guns and Religion' because WE KNOW those are the ONLY TWO rights and Freedoms They have yet to Pry out of our hands!!
Having Been a avid anti Gun advocate most my life, this Adminsitration has given me a new Respect for the 2nd Amendmment. I have no intentions of being left with a Pitchfolk in my hand if Cheneycorp Tries 'martial law' ie A Hostile Takeover by Domestic enemies!
I far more admire the Image of 'Sarah Connors' in T2 with the Pump action Shotgun then Sarah Palin in Pumps and a Plane shooting wolves. Shit Granny from the Beverly Hillbilly's is a better archetype for that matter!Funny I don't recall Either Wearing Lipstick.

Never forget that the troops they need to rely on have been duped and cheated like everyone else. It's one thing to get them to fight so-called terrorists in another country, but what happens when the people that treated them and their loved ones and fellow citizens like slaves order martial law. Those guns can point any direction needed, not just at you.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...

The people in the military and intelligence services are none too happy now and when all money fails, I wouldn't want to be a financial or political leader who tries to force them to do what they already know it wrong.

what specifically needs to happen to us for us to get that congress is either benched by cowards, in this case democrats, or fascists, in this case republicans.. it is not one little crazy man in the white house who is derilect of duty after all any one "little man" can be crazy, or fanatic, or you name it... but it takes the whole congress pledged to protect us from such a man to cave in and do nothing for the 'little man" to continue on. Thus, congress is the real culprit by claiming one thing and voting the other and forsaking its oath of office. And we are ultimately responsible for we send these guys back again and again. You want change, do not vote democrat nor republican, vote for Nader. Otherwise,give me a break.. stop with the inane "bad bush" crying, for the "bell tolls for thee.

We need to reach those people. They're probably just glad to be home; but what will they do if ordered to open fire on Americans? We need to get them thinking about that. Soldiers are trained to follow orders on reflex. Only prior thought could prevent that.

Its pure Naomi Wolf (and Naomi Klein). Pretend that all of this is new and Bush's fault. For one, clue up on the world right now: the US is at war. No country at war has ever operated like during peace time. Fact number two: the US in the past, most notably in the 60s, frequently used armed soldiers to deal with civil unrest. In that hippie, free loving time, troops regularly dealt with student demonstrators with fixed bayonets.

Today's citizens have been so pampered, they are probably wearing Pampers. Most people have not felt any ill effects from this conflict. And most never will. Calling the US a fascist state is taking it too far.

End of Posse Comitatus, yet another infringement on our rights by the gov't. Add it to the ever-growing list of violations:
They violate the 1st Amendment by opening mail, caging demonstrators and banning books like America Deceived (book) from Amazon, Wikipedia and Facebook.
They violate the 2nd Amendment by confiscating guns during Katrina.
They violate the 4th Amendment by conducting warrant-less wiretaps.
They violate the 5th and 6th Amendment by suspending habeas corpus.
They violate the 8th Amendment by torturing at Gitmo.
They violate the entire Constitution by starting illegal wars without declaration.
Impeach them all (both parties) and save this great country.

- Riot, against critical military checkpoints.
- Revolt, against those who think freedom is bad.

- DO NOT Destroy buildings. Get the people who own them, the ones who are supposed to represent the people and do the will of the people.

I have been asking about this scenario for months now. No one will address it. If Bush decides to declare martial law, can he be arrested and brought up for impeachment immediately? Also, I don't believe anyone who disobeyed this illegitimate commander in chief would be chastised for long. Americans would fight back. God knows we have enough veterans in this country that know Bush is a fake. And I'm sure are not afraid to really fight for their country. We all know the election of 2000 was actually won by Gore and 2004 was stolen from Kerry. The evidence is there. Why is this administration still in power at all???? Why wait? IMPEACH NOW, PELOSI!!!!

they will have access to lethal and non lethal crowd control technologies and tanks.

Most likely they would use APC's (armored personnel carriers) not tanks. Tanks tear up streets and roadways, and carry minimal personnel. However they would be good for psychological purposes. Nobody should be surprised about this, but of course they are. And this is what they are doing NOW. What will they do after Obama strips the second amendment away? The second amendment is NOT about access to hunting rifles! It's about decentralizing military power to serve as a check/balance against tyranny. Fool democrats will not understand this until they find themselves at their knees with a military rifle muzzle at the back of their heads.

I was in the national guard. We were an engineering battalion, and we "deployed to the streets of America" to build parks and help victims of natural disasters domestically, and build schools/shelters/basic facilities/install running water during our super-scary delta-force style infiltrations overseas to some of the poorest places in the world for our 2-week training runs. We were even covert--many in this black ops force had to put on the facade of being morbidly obese; I was luckily spared the burden of such deep cover.

Oh, and yeah. If you're confronted by a bunch of dangerous, rioting sh_theads, you file up two or three deep behind barricades and yell, "Back, Back, Back" while slowly advancing forwards to disperse the mob before they hurt themselves or others, at your civilian leaderships request.

You people amaze me. Get a clue. "Deployed + trained to line up and yell 'Back'" does not equal "Citizen, LAY DOWN" at every corner, no matter how your overly delusional mind would like it to.

What fantastic horse crap!

I live in a poor rural county where things are already very tough. But I will say, if it comes to martial law or any sort of military crackdown by the right, my neighbors are the people you want on your side. They hunt, they grow or raise much of their food, and they look after each other. I don't hunt myself, but have a 12-gauge hidden away for an emergency (prior to this, I thought it was just to scare away the occasional bear!). If it comes to Americans trying to take back their country, the rural folk will lead the way. We haven't strayed that far from our pioneer roots -- we're self-sufficient and we don't like having our liberties tampered with. As they say in NH, live free or die. That motto's taking on new, literal meaning during these tense times. I only pray Ms. Wolf is wrong. But my gut is telling me something quite different.

Why do Republicans Hate America?

This is the question we should have been asking for quite some time now.

It is very clear that anyone who would adopt the measures that Bush has been promoting clearly hates America.

It's funny that it would come down to that. Sort of like how one commonly accuses others of one's own sins or shortcomings, we now see that it is the Republicans that have hated America so much as to destroy its foundations.

I'd say the first thing they'd take from Americans wouldn't be guns, but the Internet. It would create the ultimate communication breakdown, leaving us at the mercy of their "bought" media for info. If you can't sign on one day, you'll know the worst has happened. I know it was only a movie, but in Independence Day, the resistance used Morse code and ham radios to communicate when the satellites were useless. Maybe learning MC is not a bad idea.
Another scary thing I've just heard from a friend in diplomatic circles is that American attaches/press are being pulled out of Iran. Has anyone else heard this? Could a bombing mission there be the October surprise that will indefinitely postpone the election?

When will congress proceed with the impeachment hearings. The fact that bush threatened martial law is insulting to all who love the constitution. Does fascist bush really believe that the military will carry out his orders to attack US citizens. The military will i have no doubt come to the defense of the people if this treasonous bastard bush issues any orders to kill americans. When will congress impeach bush so the attorney general can charge him with treason. Don't be surprised if the second civil war starts any time in the near future. Especially if the government tries to take our guns from us.

But what is lawful? Who defines it?

Well, the government does.

Therefore, if the president issues an order that is unlawful, it is simply a matter of changing the laws to make them lawful.

Everything the Nazis did was lawful. Making it illegal for Jews to own property was lawful. Slavery was lawful. The purges in Russia were lawful. Dropping atomic weapons on Japan was lawful.

4,000 battle hardened killers just arrived on U.S. soil to perform "crowd control." Oh they'll control you all right, with a 50 caliber bullet to the brain.

This is an ominous sign of things to come. This isn't just Unabomber and nutjob conspiracy theory stuff anymore folks. This is real and this has ALREADY HAPPENED.

As fat, weak, pacifistic, and cowardly as most Americans are, do you really think there is anything to stop them at this point? You're the ones suffering from delusions, not the Congressman from California.

Freedom and Democracy are officially dead in America, and around the world.

The problem is, is we don't want to end up in jail , we don't want our children to end upin jail and we don't want to get shot either. But we must do something and I think we need to call our reps everyday and demand action about this. many miltary people marched on stage to support obama, they need to step up to the plate to save our nation. All those with clout and power behind the scenes like Warren Buffet needs to take a stand and say NO to this horrible coup. If the election is stolen again and McCain gets in this will continue. But we must work to stop it and roiting in the streets and getting shot and arrested is not going to do it because they have all the power. Look at Russia and all the other dictatorships. How many thousands would have to die and be arrested? So I think we must first try to storm our reps with calls and replace all those that don't stand up for us. No more I'm so concerned too letters. Its time to get them out.

Much more effective than unarmed resistance against heavily armed troops is a general strike. The most likely use of the 2nd Brigade, and they have been split into five units and deployed in five different states, is for riot control after a questionable election. Prep for a storm. Get food, gas, meds, pet food, candles, batteries, water, before the election, and get ready to hunker down. There's no point in being injured or killed when we can bring an already ailing economy to its knees just by staying home.

The actual state of Posse Comitatus is interesting in that Bush DID invoke a signing statement to counter the REPEAL of the Warner Act . . . however, I have to believe that his signing statements are gonna come under harsh scrutiny sooner than later. Ergo, I think there's room to flex and fight any assumptions in place.

HR5122 also known as the John Warner Defense Authorization Act was signed by the president on Oct 17, 2006 John Warner National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007. Section 1076 Text of Hr5122 is titled "Use of the Armed Forces in major public emergencies". Removing the legalese from the text, and combining multiple sentences, it provides that: The President may employ the armed forces to restore public order in any state of the United States the president determines hinders the execution of laws or deprives people of a right, privilege, immunity, or protection named in the Constitution and secured by law or opposes or obstructs the execution of the laws of the United States or impedes the course of justice under those laws. The actual text is on page 322-323 of the legislation. As of 2008, these changes were repealed, changing the text of the law back to the original 1878 wording, under Public Law 110-181 (H.R. 4986, Section 1068,) however in signing H.R. 4986 into law President Bush attached a signing statement which indicated that the Executive Branch did not feel bound by the changes enacted by the repeal.

This entire article is based on a fundamental and shameful misunderstanding of what's going on.

The house of representatives did declare "martial law"! The "martial law rule" is the nickname Congress has for suspending certain procedural rules that slow down the passage of a bill (see here or here). It has nothing to do with troops in the streets. Basically, it let them pass the bailout bill on the same day it was introduced. Now I'm not saying that's a good thing, but it's a far cry from "the First Brigade arresting Congress"

Naomi Wolf should know better better. And she could have tried calling, oh, any Congressional office. It is articles like this that give citizen journalism a bad name.

I hope someone at Alternet eventually posts a correction

I lived in South Africa during Apartheid. The authorities there used the same reasoning for the placement of armed soldiers on the streets there and on active callup. But, they were used to maintain the policy of the Apartheid government.

This country is sliding into militarism. Bush and his sidekick have been working towards this for eight years - secrecy, the expansion of the power of the vice-president, the ability to make decisions without constitutional oversite, and so on. Now we have armed soldiers patrolling our streets. If McCain gets in, we will become a military/theocratic dictatorship - there is no doubt at all that this is what is happening.

True democracies don't need to augment their police with military units. This is the kind of thing we expect in South America and Africa, not in the United States. Why haven't the people been asked whether they agree to this? Obvious question - obvious answer.

Twice against its people. The first time Canada had martial law was in the early 1970s. Under the liberal-socialist Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau (somebody Klein has openly admired), martial law was declared and troops were put on the streets of Canada's cities. That's right: armed soldiers in combat fatigues with tanks etc, live rounds in their rifles. Helicopters were used to swoop down on radical elements and they were scooped up and detained and roughed up on mass to 'apprehend the state of insurrection', as the bisexual, liberal reforming PM said.

The second time Canada used troops on its own people occurred in the early 1990s. An armed insurrection by Native people in Quebec led to a violent stand off with the Canadian Armed Forces. This involved a stand-off between heavily armed combat troops, and heavily armed native forces. Canadians watched in stunned (there is a lot 'stunned' in Canada) awe as troops attacked the armed camp in the middle of the night live on TV.

Compared to this, Bush has been the nicest, most mild and law-abiding dude you could imagine. Appreciate him.

after reading many of the comments made over this story form all sides of the fence... just want to add my 2 cents...

this country was born of pain in the asses, both American Indian and others... we wouldn't be here arguing back and forth without this DNA combo in our bodies... let's face it folks, no other country wants us...

for those that have set up home on this continent, the late great author, Vine DeLoria (Ihanktowan Dakota) wrote and this is a paraphrase... that you folks are now beginning to breathe the remains of your own ancestors just like we have been doing for thousands of years... time to start listening to the spirits of your ancestors and ours too...

every family has a story of either armed or unarmed resistance within it with the creativity and forethought from these stories for us to learn from...

time to think, reflect, study history to try to look for the future... people will always be people and technology usually is light years ahead of what simple humans can comprehend...

time to pull together and live in the present, who knows if we the people will have a second chance...

If you're going to post fear-mongering articles, at least get the facts right. This article is just WRONG on one of its basic facts.

According to Wolf, "George Bush struck down Posse Comitatus, thus making it legal for military to patrol the U.S.... He also led change to the 1807 Insurrection Act to give him far broader powers in the event of a loosely defined "insurrection".

What Wolf fails to mention is that ALL of these changes were rescinded in the 2008 Defense Bill, thanks to the efforts of Sen. Leahy. Leahy introduced an amendment that struck the changes to Posse Comitatus/Ins. Act & reinstituted the old law. This bill passed the Congress. Posse Comitatus is still law & the Insurrection Act was restored to its original form. I think Ms. Wolf should have included these incovenient facts into the article.

A very strong possibility there since most of our troops are intelligent individuals who come from hard-working families and want a chance at the American dream like everyone else.
Sending them out to put down an "insurrection" is not part of the American dream.

As American citizens, we declare that no US armed forces unit has the right to subdue us, imprison us, or take our property, in keeping with the spirit and letter of the US Constitution, including the Amendments, and especially the Posse Comitatus Act, a United States federal law (18 U.S.C. § 1385).

We urge our representatives in Congress to pass emergency legislation reasserting Posse Comitatus and to strip the President, George W. Bush, of rights he claimed in his 'signing note' appended to HR5122 (also known as the John Warner Defense Authorization Act) on January 28, 2008).

We assert that under no circumstances should US armed forces be used against US civilians, including and not limited to crowd control or to put down insurgency.

Obama will be fine and so will America too be fine. We'll recover from this crisis throw the bums out and get about the business of making thing right. This article plays upon the very thing it is trying to warn us against; that is the fear factor as it stands in today's elections. Obama is the antithesis of fear and represents what Americans need to own up to which is their courage and committment to see through the bs that is being thrown their way and keep a higher vision in place no matter what.
A true leader does not react to events but rather creates the impetus to carry out the visions that transform events.
What this means is that even though things look bad and are being painted in the worst possible light by the news and this commentator in particular it doesn't mean this is meant to be. We all have the power to make things better and it starts by embracing and yes believing in a better future for us all.
Please do not think this is sticking our heads in the sand because yes there are forces in our country that seek to control it for their own malicious designs. I would submit to you that this has always been so. I would also remind you that our country and the greatness that is ascribed to it is because you and I work to make that future better by giving our attention to fixing the problems. This reporter is deservedly upset even frightened by the prospect of what could happen but I am here to tell you that it does not happen. We get out of this just like we always do.

I beleive Ms Wolf beleives what she writes which is more disturbing than if she were fabricating everything in her books and articles. In her most recent book she alleges because she was accidentally put on a terrorist watch list the end of the US is nigh. She was put on a terrorist watch list ( along with Ted Kennedy and others ) due to the ineptitude of the government not because any cares about Naomi Wolf . In her self important, narcissistic , post modern mind she actually beleives she is important enough for anyone to give a shit about. This book is a childish cry for "look at me I matter" or like Fredo in the godfather screaming "I'm smart, I'm not dumb like everyone says....". I have a theory that Ms Wolf and all the women from "Code Pink" may be sexually frustrated and undersexed and needs a good rogering ( from a man...) to get their minds right. This is just a theory. It needs scientific validation.

I have studied politics for such a long time. I have my B.A.'s in political science and international relations... I remember when I began to 'unplug from the matrix' sort-of-speak. Back in 2000, I was a Republican, watched FoxNoise, and drank the cool-aid and even came back for seconds. Then... one night... while listening to the "Great One" Mark Levin, I stumbled upon www.infowars.net and learned of Alex Jones. Now, some are quick to call this guy a conspiracy nut and, at times, he is way overboard. That said, people like Alex Jones have been calling this whole situation, and have called it almost exactly. From the wars to the economy (whatever is left at this point.) Noami is absolutely right guys... this is the plan... and don't think for a moment that the Democrats will save us, hell, Nancy Pelosi couldn't be more a coward. I fear for my family, my fellow countrymen and women. I fear tanks will roll down the street, and we will be round up and put into camps (FEMA camps... read up on it... its TRUE!) It's 1939... we are in Germany... and I can here the trains pulling in. Such like Hitler, they are demonizing the enemy, both Muslims and anyone else who doesn't think like them (i.e., calling Barack a terrorist like the rest of his "friends"). You can see the fascist like fevor in their rallies, where these people who call themselves patriotic Americans are shouting "Kill Him" and "Hang Em!" referring to Obama. In the meantime... Hannity and Rush get on the radio and use the SAME TACTICS Radio Mille Collins did during the Rwandan genocide! They call democrats the enemy and use military jargon when explaining their views and goals (i.e., Operation Chaos, or calling their listeners 'troops'.) What Are Troop Maneuvers Really For

Bush has been flirting with this for a while now. About two years ago this came up and it was supposed to be clear a signing statement would not be sufficient to undo the Posse Comitatus standard.

What bothers me most is congress and the senate sit by and let this happen a month away from the presidential elections. This is seriously suspicious and should be confronted for what it imposes. I will not set by and let the Republicans and Bush steal another election. This is about the election, and don't be fooled it is anything else.

After I write this, I am writing my representatives from both houses and let them know in very specific terms this is a threat to our very way of governing. This is wrong and must not be pushed to the side. There is no time for wishful passive thinking this will pass. I have scene many signs the election will not go the way it has been designed. I can only say write you congressional representative. If my words appear loaded with fear, so what this must not stand.

I am with those who think getting out every possible vote for Obama is our only hope to get this country off the road to fascism we have been on for last 7 or 27 years depending on how leftist you are. I live in a swing state, Ohio, so I dont have the luxury of voting my conscience but have to vote with the rational part of brain that knows Obama is infinitely better than the thoroughly ingrained militarist John "The Mad Bomber" McCain and his End Time Assembly of God cultist Sarah "Mad Pitbitch" Palin. It might be a good time to stock up on gold, guns, bullets and water but for now I think a massive vote for Obama will prevent a threat to democracy; elections can only be stolen in a close election. if you live in a blue state or red state you might have the feel-good option of voting your consicence for Nader or McKinney (or Barr if you can get past his ties to Conservative Citizens Council, a front for KKK) but within your state every vote counts so if it is close the ReNaziCans will win and America will lose.

The Democrats were very angry at the Bush win four years ago. They are fighting hard this election. We need a diplomatic refined president that can communicate and play an important role in defusing existing divisive political rhetoric. America is like a huge high school. America is Educated to worship the gladiators to tolerate and nurse them back to the battlefield. In high school if you didn't already have a life ,or weren't in gear with your own personal battles and values, high School had a plan laid out for you, who to beat where to beat them,when to be angry and what to do about it. I am proud what the democrats are doing this year. Makes you want to go outside and cook on the grill serve up your own peace talks with friends and family.

With much appreciation for Ms. Wolf's work, she is critically mistaken in her disempowering belief that these unconstitutional "laws" make these unconstitutional actions "legal"
The U.S. Supreme Court makes this clear over and over again:

"All laws which are repugnant to the Constitution are null and void." Marbury v. Madison, 5 US (2 Cranch) 137, 174, 176, (1803)

"Where rights secured by the Constitution are involved, there can be no rule making or legislation which would abrogate them." Miranda v. Arizona, 384 US 436 p. 491

"An unconstitutional act is not law; it confers no rights; it imposes no duties; affords no protection; it creates no office; it is in legal contemplation, as inoperative as though it had never been passed." Norton v. Shelby County 118 US 425 p. 442

"The general rule is that an unconstitutional statute, though having the form and name of law, is in reality no law, but is wholly void, and ineffective for any purpose; since unconstitutionality dates from the time of it's enactment, and not merely from the date of the decision so branding it.

The coup occurred in 2001, when the Renazican brownshirts stormed into the little room in Florida where the vote was being manually recounted. This election, like the last two, is all smoke and mirrors, a mockery of the America that used to be. The installation of troops in this country to compel "crowd control" is probably the final stage of the coup, because the misery is now quickly descending on the greater populace--in the form of lost jobs, lost homes, and lost faith in the government that has promoted nothing but lies and fantasies for the past eight years. We have only ourselves to blame for losing the Republic. So sedated were we by the endless supply of stuff and the visual narcotics provided by tv that we forgot that it takes a great deal more than watching American Idol or embarking on shopping sprees after the twin towers collapsed to sustain a democracy.

We are in deep doodoo. We ordinary Americans must organize ourselves and DEMAND that our elected representatives uphold the Constitution. Of course WE must KNOW the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and not allow the dumbing down of our citizenry.

We must demand that impeachment proceedings begin - even now with less than a month before the election - in order to deflate the power of Bush/ Cheney to insure that the next administration actually arrives at the white house.

Could someone provide some references to when and by what means Posse Comitatus was rescinded and when the Insurrection Act was altered. I would also like to see some verification of who was threatened and who did the threatening. We need facts. Otherwise we are just engaging in the same fear mongering we accuse the right of doing.

I think we are all aware that Bush & Co has consolidated power in the executive branch and this of course is dangerous and could be seen as a coup of sorts. A more frightening possibility is it could even be that indeed our republic is already gone and while we sit this morning sipping our coffee and typing our little opinions it is all really gone.

What have we done...

The press is being threatened at Sarah Palin rallies. U.S. Troops are being deployed to control We The People. At least one major news network is under the control of The Party.

What are we going to do Nov. 5 if the worst happens? Knowing that massive protests will be dealt with by the U.S. Military?

Violence is clearly not the answer. It wouldn't be effective anyway.

However if Americans take to the streets everywhere, one Army division can't be everywhere at once. We need to plan mass rallies right outside the doors of local TV and Radio stations in every community in America so they CAN'T ignore us.

The situation is dire and our country needs us to act. First by trying to win this election, but if they steal it we need to be prepared to counter martial law.

If anyone in the US armed forces kills another US citizen inside this country, or if the Congress were to be threatened by or detained by the military at the behest of some son-of-a-bitch like Bush, I believe that we would have no choice left to us as the citizens of America: it would become a war to restore our Constitution and bring down the Executive Branch.

I am deeply disturbed that we would even have to consider such an option, but fellow citizens, we cannot allow ourselves to be pushed into a corner so that secret armies can wonder the country and arrest us, jail us, kill us. THIS IS OUR COUNTRY, NOT THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH'S COUNTRY.

I can only wonder if the military would be so willing to dishonor their oath to defend the Constitution.

If you look at the Defense Authorization Act of 2009 compared to 2008, Ft. Stewart's budget increased from $135 to $432 million targeted at "infrastructure improvements."

On October 1, 2008, the DHS spy satellite program went into effect.

On October 1, 2008, the Brigade started its "mission"

Military personnel just received a 3.9% pay raise.

Roughly a year ago b/w October 15th-20th 2007, NorthCom participated in a 5-day long "martial law exercise"

One of the non-lethal weapons they will have "containerized" may be the ADS or Silent Guardian (manufactured by Raytheon).

Bush has issued the signing statement as Naomi Wolf reports. She may right on target. They may never let Obama be president.

What might they do? Stage rioting in "battleground states" and then send in the militia and then perform "recounts" that favor McCain.

Wolf also stated that at age 72 and with his history of melanoma, McCain may have 2-4 years life expectancy. Then what? Sarah Palin?

Troubling times indeed.

Naomi sees the "writing on the wall" regarding the fascist takeover of this country. The bailout bill has a provision giving $100 billion to George Bush to use as he wishes. This bail-out Bill was pushed through Congress with threats of martial law if it was not passed. It was pushed through Congress just like the Patriot Act was pushed through Congress. Fear was the driving force. Fear is used by dictators to take control.

A military brigade from Iraq is being deployed on United States soil now to keep the peace. The Posse Comitatus Act, which forbade the deployment of military troops in this country to enforce the law, was thrown out by the Patriot Act. In 2006, when the Congress was taken back by the Democrats, the Democrats actually did something and reinstated this act. George Bush instead of vetoing it just signed another of his many " Signing Statements" Which Said That He Would Not Be Bound by This Reinstatement of the Posse Comitatus Act.

Prisons have been built across the country over the last several years by a subsidiary of Halliburton. Journalists were arrested at the Republican national convention. The Electronic Voting Machines Are in Place to Hack Another Election. The mainstream media is completely owned by five multi-national companies. The monetary policy of this country is controlled by international private central bankers which includes the Federal Reserve Bank and the Bank of England.

George Bush must be arrested for treason before it is too late.

I don't think the military can stop a group of determined Americans. It sounds a bit intimidating to bringing American troops on American Soil to control Americans but I don't think even the US military in it's present state can handle a large group of pissed off Americans.

including those in the military who will not let this country be turned into a fascist dictatorship.

For a really good watch regarding the creation of the federal reserve and the tax-amendment that was never ratified there is a movie out there called Freedom to Fascism. This documentary was filmed by Aaron Russo before his death. The very same guy that brought us the lethal weapon movies. Unfortunately, the address is far to long for this site to accept. I would suggest typing in "From Freedom to Fascism" in your browser windows and viewing the whole thing. It's time for all of us to educate ourselves quickly.

One of the most obvious differences between libertarians like me and those on the left vis a vis civil liberties is, we libertarians acknowledge the keeping and bearing arms as the *right* that it *is.*

Our founders, whatever else you think of them, were determined to add the Bill of Rights to the Constitution precisely because of situations like the one we are now in.

If the government gets out of line, it is not only our *right* but it is our *duty* to get it back in line, no matter what we have to do to achieve that.

And, they said, if all else fails and we absolutely have to use force, then we have to. And, this is reason number one why the citizenry needs to be armed. It is not pleasant to think about.

The number two reason is the fact that during chaos, some will stoop to the level of crime, and defense against that is called for too.

I just hope that we can change things in a peaceful, orderly way. Many view the upcoming election as a way to change. I personally don't as I am a Ron Paul supporter who plans to vote for Bob Barr, and I know full well he won't win. It is a matter of principle.

And, some view demonstrations and shouting out as a way to change. Maybe. Hopefully.

But, what if push comes to shove and someone is at your door saying, come along, you're going to a camp, and each family member is going to a different place?

Will you say "Yassir, yasssir, we go nicely, Boss" or will you be able to say, "No way, Jose" and make it stick?

It probably won't be that overt, but preparedness is key.
